00:00The heat and humidity is building across many parts of the UK over the next 24 hours.
00:05But it was actually quite a chilly start to Sunday for some.
00:07In rural areas, we even saw temperatures dip down to 3 or 4 degrees Celsius.
00:11Out there this morning, though, there's plenty of hazy sunshine, as you can see from this
00:15view from space.
00:16But if we zoom out a little bit, we can see that there is a massive cloud out towards
00:19the west, courtesy of this area of low pressure here and these weather fronts.
00:22And that will be bringing a change over the next 24 hours, with some welcome rain for
00:26some areas.
00:27As well as that, though, winds are switching to a southerly direction and importing some
00:30of this really hot and humid air that we currently have across continental Europe.
00:34So temperatures are set to rise pretty rapidly.
00:37But throwing it back to Sunday afternoon, it's a beautiful afternoon out there for most, plenty
00:42of sunshine once again.
00:43There is a bit more in a way of wispy high-level cloud out and about compared to yesterday.
00:47And the cloud in the west may just about be thick enough later this afternoon to bring
00:51one or two spots of rain to Northern Ireland and maybe also the west of Wales.
00:55There is also a bit more in a way of cloud across northeast Scotland.
00:58So here, like yesterday, one or two showers, but these are not as numerous or as heavy as
01:03they were on Saturday.
01:04Temperatures will be up, though, so a warmer feeling day to come for many.
01:07Even in Scotland and Northern Ireland, we have less in the way of a breeze.
01:10Temperatures close to average here.
01:12But across England and Wales, temperatures widely in the mid, locally high 20s and we could
01:16actually see 30 degrees Celsius just about just the west of London.
01:20So a rather hot day to come here.
01:21Eastern coastal counties though of England will be a tad cooler with a bit of an easterly
01:26breeze, just paying back temperatures here.
01:28Now through this evening, we will see an increasing tendency for that rain to become a little bit
01:32more widespread across parts of Northern Ireland, Northern England and Southern Scotland, blossoming
01:37a little bit more.
01:37So a few millimetres of rain perhaps for parts of Scotland by the morning.
01:41Possibly the odd shower also for Wales, the Midlands and North East England, but certainly
01:45not a guarantee by any means.
01:47And many southern areas of the UK remaining clear and dry.
01:50It will turn into an increasingly warm and humid night across many parts of England and
01:54Wales.
01:54Temperatures in towns and cities holding up at between 17 and 18 degrees, perhaps in the
01:59larger urban areas.
02:00But notice across Northern Scotland, temperatures in single figures here and still a fairly cool,
02:04if not chilly night to come where we hold on to clear skies.
02:08So for Monday, a pretty cloudy and damp day for parts of Scotland.
02:12I think particularly through the morning, the rain will come and go, but may well turn a
02:16little bit more persistent for a time, particularly across central and northern Scotland.
02:20So a few millimetres of rain building up here and a fairly cool day to come, temperatures
02:24in the teens.
02:25For Northern Ireland and Northern England, one or two showers are possible, perhaps heavy
02:29later in the day with some brighter spells.
02:31But for the large bulk of England and Wales, you'll notice another mostly sunny and dry day
02:36to come and temperatures are really going to respond in that strong August sunshine.
02:40So widely hotter than today, 29 to 32 Celsius quite widely in inland areas and possibly the
02:47mid-30s in the southeast of England.
02:49With a more humid feel, it will probably start to feel pretty uncomfortable.
02:54So temperatures will be up quite a lot compared to on Sunday.
02:57This map shows that particularly eastern areas of England could see temperatures some 6-7
03:02degrees Celsius higher than on Sunday.
03:04Now you'll notice across Scotland, it's going to be actually a slightly cooler day courtesy
03:08of that cloud and for some, some persistent rain.
03:11Now in terms of the shower risks, there is the potential for Western England, Wales, the
03:15Midlands of seeing a few showers later in the day and through the evening.
03:19But again, by no means a guarantee, the most likely areas for seeing showers and rain will
03:24remain across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
03:27So as we go into Tuesday though, a greater chance of some heavy showers and thunderstorms
03:30breaking out, even in parts of England and Wales where we desperately do need the rain.
03:34But I think the focus will tend to remain across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
03:39Holding on to some warmth in eastern England for a time, temperatures perhaps getting close
03:43to 30 degrees locally.
03:44But as we go through the coming week, temperatures will return closer to the average.
