00:12I still am at a point where I'm a little surprised,
00:17mostly because I think they're five or six deep at edge rusher.
00:22But I guess the more the merrier.
00:24If you need bodies to hold up, I can understand checking in with Jadavian
00:27and saying, hey, if we have an injury, we'll call you back.
00:30What's interesting is that he's now been on four teams in four years.
00:33It's been a little bit of a bouncing from team to team thing.
00:37Jadavian Clowney was good last year.
00:39He had eight and a half sacks.
00:40Jadavian Clowney was productive last year.
00:43The idea that he can't help this football team, I just don't believe in.
00:47I want to know what he's after, though.
00:48That was eight and a half sacks when he only started six games for Dallas.
00:52He appeared in 13.
00:53That was a different role for Jadavian Clowney,
00:56and he was still getting after the quarterback.
00:57Yeah, I'm a little torn here because he has been statistically prevalent the last three years.
01:02He almost had ten sacks three years ago in Baltimore.
01:05In a bad Carolina defense, I think he had six sacks two years ago,
01:10and then last year you mentioned his numbers.

01:12I think there's a reason why Jadavian has had four teams in four years.

01:41Remember the Mary Kay article that came out the final week of the season?

01:47Well, it just went scorch earth on basically everything that we thought.
01:51But here's why it would be an opportunity,
01:53or at least why the Browns are looking at it and why he's in right now.
01:56And this is so obvious.
01:57Miles Garrett isn't here anymore.
02:00Miles and Jadavian Clowney didn't get along.
02:02And Jadavian, again, that article by Mary Kay at the end of the season,
02:06that was about highlighting some of the problems and some of the issues in that locker room
02:11and everything that was going on.

02:14But Jadavian was mad about the idea that Miles got to eat first,
02:17and Miles got all the attention,
02:19and they set up all these plays for Miles to have all the success.
02:21Meanwhile, Jadavian had to scrap and claw for everything that he got.
02:24And so I feel like that relationship being soured the way that it was
02:29is why we haven't talked or even thought about Jadavian Clowney
02:31in so many years.
02:33And now that Miles is gone and he's off in la-la land,
02:35it opens up the door for if the Browns want to,
02:38you can bring Jadavian back.
02:39All right, for all the reservations I might have on this,
02:42one silver lining is three years ago he was in Baltimore.
02:45Todd Munkin was in Baltimore.
02:47Yeah, that's true.
02:48Again, like if this was Kevin Stefanski,
02:50now that I'm thinking about it out loud,
02:51if Kevin was here, I wouldn't trust this
02:53because Kevin, I don't think,
02:56had the personal touch it requires to handle guys

03:05and at least give it a chance.

03:20notched the most amount of sacks he's ever had
03:22in a season in Baltimore in 2023.
03:23And so like Munkin, if anybody,
03:25is going to still think that Jadavian can do things
03:27and obviously was there as you watched him
03:30be very productive in Baltimore.

03:37Does this make sense to your ears?
03:39I think the way you put it,
03:41that maybe this was as much of a Miles problem
03:44as it was a Jadavian problem,
03:46meaning they just didn't like each other.
03:48And Miles had a lot of sway on that.
03:50I think you pair that with it being a different head coach.
03:55I don't want to completely dismiss it.
03:57I made the joke on Twitter when I saw it.

04:16But I would have a very quick hook on this.
04:19So what's interesting is the only thing that would make sense, Nick,
04:22is maybe like a one-year deal, right?
04:24You're not giving Clowney a multi-year deal.
04:26You give him a one-year deal.
04:27And so it does kind of,
04:28it kind of makes you just kind of beg the question
04:30of what exactly are the Browns trying to accomplish?
04:32Because that would make you seem more like
04:34they're trying to win games
04:35and they really care about winning games.
04:37Meanwhile, we don't know where they stand in 2027 in the draft
04:40and what they're trying to do there
04:41and how emphatic they are going to be
04:44in exactly what we described.
04:45So it's interesting.
04:46You and I talked about the Denzel Ward contract extension yesterday.
04:49And I saw Zach tweet this out at,
04:53I think right around the end of our show,
04:54Zach Jackson of The Athletic.
04:57And so when he was on with the morning show,
04:59he said it again.
04:59And it was about the one way in which Denzel
05:02and the Browns agreeing to continue to do business
05:05with each other and not making sense.
05:08And I think it flies right into the face here
05:09of this Jadavion Clowney thing.
05:11I'm not trying to poo-poo it.
05:12Denzel Ward is what you want as a player and as a person.
05:15I found it strange because I just thought
05:18that they would continue to tear this down and move along
05:21because I think that's the right thing to do.
05:22I'm just going to say I'm surprised by this
05:24because when you trade Myles Garrett
05:26and when you embrace being the youngest team in the league
05:29and being more than a year away,
05:30I just saw Denzel Ward in year nine
05:32as a guy that you could move for another asset.
05:34They didn't want that.
05:35Denzel didn't want that.
05:36I think Denzel leveraged this perfectly with the Myles situation.
05:39I'm just saying it's surprising
05:40because I don't see the timeline of the player
05:44and the team matching up.
05:46Now, I think the previous trade was much more
05:49about those timelines not matching up.
05:51So maybe it's just two completely different circumstances
05:53and the Browns feel like whatever they get from Denzel Ward
05:56for two more years, four more years, whatever,
05:58is going to be worth it even if they don't get to flip him
06:02for another asset.
06:03I just think that if you're not 25
06:05and you're not under contract for two years,
06:07that the team should trade you.
06:08So I guess it's that last part
06:10that I maybe got the most visceral reaction
06:13when I was taking my oldest daughter to band camp today
06:15because I thought to myself,
06:16like, I think time, like, this isn't the NBA
06:19where a rebuild takes five years.
06:21This isn't Major League Baseball
06:23where a rebuild takes three to four to five to seven years, right?
06:27It's the NFL, and the Browns are in year two
06:29of a three-year build.
06:31So this, like, I never thought the timeline thing
06:34with Miles mattered.
06:35Like, the timeline to maximize Miles' value
06:38versus you getting a quarterback.
06:41Miles was the best piece you could ship off
06:45to give you a much better chance at finding a quarterback
06:48if neither one of these guys took hold of the job this year.
06:52But I don't think that meant
06:53that everybody else's timelines don't match up.
06:56I think we're talking about Miles' specific timeline
06:58and impatience here.
06:59I think it was basically the Browns running out of time
07:02with Miles to keep him here.
07:04I don't think that's unilateral for every other player here.
07:06Well, there's something different with the Miles thing
07:08that didn't happen in the Denzel thing,
07:09and that Miles was publicly asking for trades.
07:11I think that matters in this.
07:13I think if you're publicly asking to be traded
07:15and you want to be moved out,
07:16then I think it becomes a much different conversation
07:18than what we had with Denzel.
07:20But the Denzel thing, I mean, if it's two years,

07:24are going to be team options, it's interesting.
07:27And it's interesting for when they're trying to actually

07:31Because if you go after someone like Clowney,
07:33that's a one-year deal.

08:40when you actually have NFL talent.
08:42And the Browns are building some real NFL talent here.
08:45Yeah, but that's also why I think a lot of people wonder,
08:48well, if you win six or seven games,
08:49is that a disaster zone for you?
08:51Because you're going to then be picking
08:52sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth in a draft,
08:54where if you only have three quarterbacks
08:56taken in the top ten
08:57or four quarterbacks all taken in the top five.
08:59But I think the Browns tried playing that game
09:01where they could organize the draft chart,
09:03and it didn't work out.
09:04You had two years to try to organize the draft chart
09:06and make it work in your favor.
09:07They didn't get it either time.
09:09And so I think this might be them
09:10going into what you're suggesting.
09:11The Clowney thing is just as big
09:13as the Ward thing to me in that.
09:14what the other things are going to do
09:14from the start to achieve the draft chart,
