00:00Let's go ahead and get to Daryl Ryder's take on Shadour.
00:03Now, because I didn't hear this in real time.
00:06This is my first time hearing it.
00:08Mack, this is from today's show?
00:10Correct.
00:11Okay.
00:11This is what Daryl had to say filling in for Phelps today
00:14about Shadour Sanders' boom or bust potential this offseason.
00:19I think that there is a scenario in which Shadour Sanders is not a Cleveland Brown
00:23and he gets traded.
00:23How does that happen?
00:25Number one, they draft Brendan Sorsby.
00:27So that would be two quarterbacks that they will have brought in.
00:29Talon Green and Sorsby.
00:31Stop.
00:32They're not bringing Sorsby.
00:33And please, just please don't do that to me for the rest of the day.
00:37I think that there's a possibility that Sorsby –
00:39I am convinced that Barry's going to put in a bid on Sorsby.
00:42So here's the analogy I used yesterday, Andy, okay?
00:45If my phone buzzes right now and says,
00:48hey, Daryl, we have zero interest in Brendan Sorsby, okay?
00:51I will relay that to the audience.
00:53Hey, I just got a text that says the Browns are out on Brendan Sorsby
00:57so we can stop talking about it.
00:58You did not get that text.
00:59I've not gotten that, but I'm just saying.
01:01And that's kind of what's happening right now.
01:02People are being told the Browns are out on Brendan Sorsby,
01:05and that's why that's out there.
01:07It's factual, right?
01:08I don't believe that to be the case.
01:10I think they're absolutely in on Brendan Sorsby
01:12in the sense that they're doing their homework
01:14and they're preparing to decide whether or not they're going to bid a pick.
01:17I really wish somebody would have alerted me to the fact that this conversation was going on,
01:22so I could have just burst in like a Kool-Aid man and busted both of their stones
01:27for completely different reasons.
01:30I guess my thing here is, because I know that there's a lot of scuttlebutt.
01:34We're in June, so there's a lot of scuttlebutt about Chador's future with the Browns.
01:40This is not Kenny Pickett, because that's the comparison, right?
01:44Well, they had Kenny, they trade for Kenny Pickett.
01:47And that is what Daryl was doing Sunday.
01:48He went through that whole thing, that they went out and traded for Kenny Pickett,
01:52similarly how they traded up for Chador,
01:54and then they could use his value to trade him elsewhere.
01:59It was the same.
01:59Yeah, and so if he loses the starting job, he will have approximately no value.
02:05The reason Kenny Pickett had value is he was the 20th pick in the 2022 draft,
02:11and that was the whole idea on what his value was.
02:15Hey, if you can get a first-round talent for a fifth-rounder,
02:19are you going to feel like you won the lottery because you got a fifth-rounder
02:22for a fifth-round talent?
02:24I think it's a bit of a stretch, and I think, I understand why we're doing it.
02:30I understand all the little nuances we're trying to explore here.
02:33If Chador isn't here week one, it better be because he's on the IR.
02:39Because if the Browns trade him before week one,
02:42and Little Legs Dylan Gabriel's still here, I'm going to be frustrated.
02:45If the giant Talon Green beats Chador out for a spot,
02:49I will have said you probably made the wrong decision there as well.
02:53The one thing, and I hate to give Daryl any credence on this at all,
02:58but the one thing that I do think that he has maybe figured out
03:03is that if Watson is the starting quarterback,
03:07do the Browns really want to start the Todd Munkin era
03:10with a more popular backup quarterback in Chador Sanders than Deshaun Watson?
03:15Because we know if those first two games in Florida don't go great,
03:21the scene week three at the home opener,
03:24if Watson's the starter, is not going to be pleasant,
03:26it's not going to be pretty, and it's going to be a stadium full of people
03:29wearing No. 12 and No. 2 jerseys chanting for Chador Sanders.
03:34But here's the difference.
03:35I do think that this is a thought process that happens in the NFL.
03:39You don't want a backup that's more popular than the starter.
03:43It's when the starter is a former first-round pick
03:46that hasn't quite hit the ground running yet,
03:49a la Sam Darnold in New York a couple years ago,
03:51or Sam Darnold pretty much anywhere until he got to Minnesota.
03:55That makes sense, right?
03:57Or if you've got a Josh Allen and he's coming off a bad season, right,
04:01and you don't want to put a high-profile backup behind him,
04:04all those things make sense.
04:05This is Deshaun Watson.
04:08Like, if Deshaun Watson can't handle the heat,
04:10or if this locker room can't handle the heat,
04:13about Chador being a backup to Deshaun Watson,
04:16what effectively you've told me is your head coach wouldn't be able to lead.
04:19I would be so surprised if Todd Munkin viewed this specific thing of,
04:25like, I don't want my backup to be a distraction.
04:27Or does Barry view it that way?
04:29I would be very surprised if that's how Andrew Barry views it.
04:32Because Andrew Barry, like,
04:33the one thing that he absolutely loves more than anything is value.
04:37And that's the one thing that he's consistently described Chador Sanders as.
04:42From the moment he was drafted through the entire preseason this year,
04:46whenever Andrew Barry talks about Chador,
04:49he mentions the fact that in the fifth round he just could not pass up
04:53on a value like that.
04:55So in a world where the Browns were to get, to your point,
04:58okay, you get a fourth round for Chador, is that really worth it?
05:01You drafted him with a fifth, you get a fourth.
05:03What do you do?
05:03You say that you won the maneuver?
05:05I do think that's how Andrew Barry is wired.
05:08I don't agree with it at all.
05:10Okay, so here's the thing.
05:11One, if he can't beat out Deshaun Watson,
05:14who's going to give up a fourth round pick for Chador?
05:17That's the first one.
05:17Is maybe that all the fodder that we've been hearing from Jeremy Fowler
05:21and others as to how he's really come on strong through the offseason program
05:26and that this is really a true competition now
05:30because Chador closed the app on Deshaun?
05:32Like, is maybe that the reason why we're starting to hear all of that?
05:36Chador, I don't know.
05:36I'm just trying.
05:37I'm trying to figure it all out, too.
05:38I think, I get it.
05:41We've talked ourselves in the circle with this one.
05:44I just, I would be beyond stunned if Chador isn't here week one.
05:49I don't see a scenario in which he's not here.
05:52If you take Sorsby, well, then, quite frankly,
05:56Chador, Deshaun starts until Sorsby's ready,
06:00whether that's this year or next year.
06:01And Gabriel and Talon Green are the guys that are left out.
06:05Here's the issue.
06:06I've identified the issue.
06:07You're thinking of this as a rationally thinking human being.
06:11You're not thinking of this as the way that the Cleveland Browns operate.
06:15Oh, I actually disagree.
06:16I think the Browns have a fair amount of rational.
06:18Sometimes they disagree with the rationale.
06:21But I, like, where's the point that you think they've been irrational?
06:25The Kenny Pickett thing last year.
06:27The four-man quarterback thing last year in its entirety.
06:30The fact that they started Flacco and traded him in the division
06:33to the Cincinnati Bengals before we even hit the bye week.
06:36I think last year's quarterback room, and I have said something close to this previously.
06:42I think that was Kenny Pickett's for Kevin Stefanski, Dylan Gabriels for Stefanski,
06:48and then I think Flacco and Chador were for Barry.
06:52And then I think it was, let's see how this one plays out.
06:54And I think it was the full intention to give the job to Kenny Pickett.
07:01And then Kenny got hurt in camp, and there was no way they could sell that to the locker room.
07:05And then a comedy of errors happened after that.
07:07Although I do think the one thing I will say is irrational, or maybe it's overly confident,
07:13hubristic, if you will, was we're going to play multiple quarterbacks next year,
07:17and we think that's going to end up well for us.
07:19And they declared that from Jump Street, by the way.
07:21They declared that well into the, you know, before the preseason games even started,
07:25they declared that that's what they were getting ready to do.
07:27I guess I wouldn't be shocked if Chador gets traded before week one,
07:32just because Andrew Barry has proven that he doesn't care.
07:36He will trade whatever.
07:37Remember we did this with Josh Dobbs a couple of years ago, where they traded him.
07:41That was a free agent pickup versus a guy they drafted two years ago at a position where they don't.
07:47They held on to Tyler Huntley.
07:47I think, like, but maybe the way that they view Chador is that he's incapable, if you will,
07:53of being a backup quarterback, and he's a developmental starting quarterback.
07:57Whereas if they draft Brendan Storesby, he's the developmental starter,
08:02and Dylan Gabriel is just the franchise backup, which is kind of what they said from the start.
08:07I appreciate your ability to try and find a way in which Daryl's thought makes sense.
08:13I will say that.
08:15216-474-0092.
08:18And when Daryl's on with us on Wednesday, I'll say it to his face,
08:20if I can remember that far in the future.
08:22How likely is it that Chador isn't on the roster week one?
