00:03and we have like four pieces of sound from Deshaun today.
00:07Being asked about what he's expecting on Sunday
00:10and his relationship with the fans and all of this,
00:13I will tell you, Deshaun in at least one answer here,
00:17when talking about the growth of his relationship
00:20and what he's learned over the process here,
00:23made a pretty astute point about something he may or may not have learned
00:26over the last couple months here.
00:27Yeah, I mean, the biggest thing, like, I don't never try to go at war with the fans,
00:31so I think the biggest thing is just, you know, ready for support,
00:35ready to feel their energy, ready to get this big dub for the city of Cleveland
00:38and, you know, continue this great feeling that we have this week.
00:41So that's my motto is just keep pushing forward,
00:44finding ways to win on Sunday to, you know,
00:46take advantage of the opposing team and get a W.
00:49When he said, you know, never try to go to war with fans,
00:53and I was listening to that in real time, I honestly chuckled.

00:58I let out a very big laugh, and I was walking on the street,
01:02and people looked at me like I was a reprobate.
01:07I terrified people around me like I was Godzilla in Cleveland.
01:11That's how hard I laughed when he was like,
01:13well, what I learned is you never go to war with fans.

01:22Now, what's gained in the headlines, I don't know if you noticed this or not,

01:35It's the idea that he's ready for support,
01:38and this is where I – bad job by me.
01:40I meant to show up today to be able to pull Deshaun aside in the scrum
01:44and tell him because he's got a bunch of bobbleheads around him
01:47that will just tell him everything he wants to hear.
01:49If you're ready for support, you're going to be sorely upset.
01:53You're going to – this is not – you're not framing this the right way.
01:56I like that this is his mentality, but we know this about him.

02:05and doesn't handle that very well.

02:17and that people are picking it up.
02:19I do want to say I thought he handled it about as close
02:23to what you and I said yesterday as possible,
02:25meaning whether he believes what he said today or not,
02:29we'll find out on Sunday, but you kind of got to fake it until you make it.
02:34It kind of goes back to his relationship with the fans
02:36and how he reacts to them.
02:38You have to say the right thing before you can go show
02:41that the right thing was actually what you feel.

02:43And I think he at least did that because I took more on the, you know,
02:47trying to be positive and up front.

05:09maybe don't go in with those expectations.
05:11Maybe understand you're going to have some boos.
05:12If he thinks everything is just behind him and it's all going to be awesome.

05:22And this is something I organically thought,
05:25but I don't know if your friend directly meant this.
05:27He said, we're past the August pleasantry or displeasantries, right?

05:32That implies that every part of the party is past that.
05:35That maybe is what your friend is getting at.
05:38It's something I thought as well of like, the fans aren't past that.
05:41So like you can, you can decide you're past that.
05:43And maybe it's just a misphrasing or miss misuse of a wrong term there.
05:46But like could the collective is not past what he said in August.

05:51But I do think if, if I hear effort from Deshaun to, again,
05:56like, like three weeks ago,
05:57he couldn't talk about it in a positive or constructive way.

06:12and his inner feelings were let out, right?
06:15With the sneering or the media thinks I should throw 400 yards and five

06:22any of the sound that you might've heard today.

06:25That is again, like I just, I'm trying to,
06:29to meet Deshaun where he is.

06:32He's the Brown starting quarterback for right now.

06:35I'm hopeful that he can replicate that against a Panthers team.

06:40has been really hyped up here off of the first two weeks of the season.
06:44So I'm hopeful here and I can at least respect an effort from Deshaun Watson.
06:50And again, and this is where, you know, I, I kind of caution Todd Munkin.
06:55I know you did the same thing as they were trying to breathe life into Sean in the,
06:58the preseason and, and leading up to that first game.
07:01And it's like, well,
07:02there is a moment where there's no more breathing life into it.
07:05It just is what it is.
07:06And so now I think Deshaun really has to make sure, all right,
07:10this is what I feel.
07:11This is what I'm hoping for,
07:12but also preparing for that other side is something you probably want to keep in
07:15your mind.
07:16Cause if it throws you off, you know, any sort of negative reaction, if you,
07:20if all you do,
07:20if it's 20% booze and I'm just throwing out a number there and you choose to
07:24focus on that, well,
07:26then the good feelings of this last week probably will be gone.
07:29And you just kind of need to keep that perspective.
07:31Does it feel a little nitpicky by the national media,
07:34the ones that are taking this and going with the Deshaun Watson ready for support
07:37from Browns fans this weekend headline?

07:41I listened to the entire press conference today and I didn't come away.
07:45I didn't come away with that.

07:49I think they were looking for,
07:50maybe the,
07:51maybe not nitpicky,
07:52but it certainly looked like they were looking for something to point back at

07:55Here's my thoughts.
07:56So as much as I do,
07:57and obviously I said what I said in the first segment,
07:59I stand by that,
08:00but that part itself in and of itself,
08:03and then just trying to caution Deshaun about what's,
08:05what potentially could be coming and then trying to figure out if he's got the
08:07right mindset for it all,
08:09or if he's just seeing happy,
08:10go lucky,
08:11whatever.
08:12I didn't think that was representational of the entirety of the press
08:16conference.
08:17Like I,
08:17I didn't think that if you were to tell me as a whole,
08:20how did it seem like Deshaun was,
08:21I would say Deshaun seemed like he was in a good headspace and Deshaun seemed
08:25like he was ready to not only be the quarterback for this week,
08:27but is preparing himself to be a quarterback for as long as he has an
08:30opportunity to,
08:31and is in a really good spot.
08:33Now I don't blame anyone for picking this apart because it is what it is.
08:36That's what we do.

08:38I find that interesting that that's the part that everybody's running with.

08:41I think a week ago,
08:42Deshaun laid it on a silver platter for everyone with how he talked about
08:46the media.

08:48but he might as well have been talking about the fan as well.

08:52I'm talking about the fans,
08:53not this station three weeks ago,
08:55he put it on silver platter.
08:57There was no picking apart that this is more digging.

09:00definitely trying to fulfill an angle that is out there.

09:05that's another way to silence.
09:07That is Deshaun ignoring whatever negative reaction he gets in going and
09:10having another good game on Sunday.
09:12Did Deshaun learn his lesson?

09:18So the other part of this is,

09:28there's an emerging narrative.
09:29All we ever hear from his callers that are like,
09:30it took me 28 minutes to get in.

09:33And this one,
09:33if you hang,
09:33if you hang up every four minutes after being on hold,
09:35you're never going to get in.
09:36This guy was on hold for like five minutes.
09:38That's the crazy part.
09:39But anyways,
09:39so there is an emerging narrative.
09:41I know that's a dangerous word to use on this station,
09:44because if you use it enough,
09:45people will really get antsy around here.
09:47But it's,
09:48it's surrounding like the Browns is a winning team.
09:51And in this threat that's coming up on Sunday,
09:54I think the Panthers can beat you.
09:56I have no problem.
09:57If anyone says right now,
09:58they think the Panthers are a better team than the Browns.
10:01And given the way their offense has played the first two weeks here,
10:05but there's a little bit of revisionist history on the Browns win over the
10:09Buccaneers that people are trying to paint it as,

10:11I guess the bucks are just really bad.
10:14And conversely,
10:15they're going over to the Panthers who are coming off a win.
10:17And the offense has again,
10:19been incredibly high powered.

10:47It seems like people think the Panthers are a better test for Deshaun and the Browns

10:52than Tampa is.
10:54And it's like,
10:54that's not the take going in the,
10:57the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were eight and a half point favorites.
10:59And all anyone would talk about is what a bad matchup Tampa Bay was for Deshaun
11:04specifically,
11:05because Todd Bowles loves to blitz more than anyone in the NFL.
11:08And so I think that is,
11:10I think we're getting some serious revisionist history on how people are all of a sudden
11:15propping the Panthers up to be this,
11:18this,
11:18you know,
11:19juggernaut.
11:19And it's like,
11:20they're a very good team.
11:21They,
11:21they deserve your respect and they're better than maybe we would have thought of them
11:25two weeks ago.
11:26But this idea that we should,
11:28that,
11:29that,
11:29that the Tampa Bay game has kind of been sidestepped or downplayed and that all of a
11:34sudden we're,
11:34we're lifting up the Panthers here.
11:36I think that's who we,
11:37I still think the Tampa Bay game stylistically is a better match or tougher matchup for
11:41Deshaun.
11:42The Bucs are a significantly better team,
11:44at least supposed to be a significantly better team.
11:46I think the part that people are surprised by with the Panthers is just how good Bryce
11:49Young looks after two games.
11:51I think that's maybe what they're running with.
11:53Now you can make an argument.
11:54They played a bad Falcons team and I don't think the Bears defense could stop a cold.

11:58I don't know what to do with that.

12:03I just think people are making a bigger deal about the,

12:25They've got a couple of nice players.
12:27Derek Brown's always been an incendiary good defensive lineman.
12:31He doesn't get the kind of credit,

12:33they've got some guys here.
12:35They're an offensive team,
12:36but they're still a team in transition.
12:38And certainly defensively,
12:40I think you should be able to run the ball this weekend.
12:42And I think running the ball,
12:44they have one of the worst run stopping metrics in football right now.
12:48But I think that's the worst teams in the NFL at stopping the run.
12:51I think we finally might see what this offense looks like with a fully
12:54functional Quinshawn Judkins performance.
12:57And I think that could really even take even more pressure off of Deshaun

13:01I don't think,
13:02I don't think many people are really sounding the alarms yet when it comes
13:04to Quinshawn,
13:05but if he doesn't perform against one of the worst run defenses in the
13:08sport and in the Panthers,
13:09then yeah,

13:11it's set up nicely for Quinshawn to have a pretty big day.

16:43We've had five years of evidence that prove that people don't just cheer for
16:46you because you're the Browns quarterback.
