00:00We have not resorted to, nor has the morning show, nor has any other show on this station
00:04resorted to what outside of here has been the, now that Shador is no longer in the lead
00:12or Deshaun is taking the lead, however you want to phrase it, so I guess we're trading
00:15Shador conversation, right?
00:17No.
00:18Is that a predominant thought out there?
00:20Yes.
00:21Both Twitter and other outlets multiple times have brought the, I guess we're going to trade
00:28Shador if he's not the starter conversation.
00:30I know the Shador fans are really upset with the Browns.
00:32I've gotten a lot of messages about people that are like, I can't believe you stay with
00:35this, this, and then they say bad words about the Browns franchise.
00:39And so like, obviously they're, they're not happy with the Browns.
00:41That is what that is.
00:42But the idea that they would trade him, I, I, geez, I don't see that as reality right now,
00:47guys.
00:47Yeah.
00:47I don't see the Shador is going to play a lot of games this year.
00:50I would hope.
00:50Yeah.
00:50I think that's the thing I think we can all agree on is even if Deshaun starts the beginning
00:55of the season, at some point we expect to see Shador and the prevailing sentiment is
01:00Shador will have more starts, which is part of the reason why we all think that Deshaun
01:04starting thing is ridiculous to begin with.
01:06So if we can already say that, that's fine.
01:08Oh, the other part of it is like what value could Shador have had given the way the NFL
01:12has talked about him for the last 18 months, right?
01:15His value is not high and it just isn't, I don't know.
01:18What do they project?
01:19He would even get in return.
01:20It's got to be like a projection.
01:21It's just a fifth round pick back in return.
01:24Is that the idea?
01:24So the Browns are going to give up on basically spending this entire off season developing
01:29and getting him ready for a, for a flyer of a fifth round pick.
01:32Like it just doesn't make any sense while also selling low on Dylan Gabriel.
01:35Don't forget that one.
01:36There is also the concept, or at least the idea that I hold in my brain.
01:39And I don't know if he plays, if he plays 13 games and it goes poorly, then obviously
01:43this is just out the window and it's gone.
01:45But if he plays like seven, eight, seven, eight, nine games or something, and you know, you
01:49win a couple, he shows some things.
01:51There's that chance that he ends up being the starting quarterback in 2027 and kind of ushers
01:56in the quarterback that you take in the 2027 class.
01:59And it kind of works as that Jacoby Brissett, Drake May bridge that exists in the NFL and
02:04all sorts of different places.
02:05Yeah.
02:05I mean, I think right now, if you said the most likely outcome of that quarterback for
02:12the Browns is they're going to take a quarterback in 2027.
02:16I think you're missing the other part of it, which is you do need to have someone here
02:21to hold the fort.
02:22Basically the way the Browns are treating Deshaun for Shador of like, well, Deshaun's, if
02:28Shador is not ready to be the starter, well, we're comfortable rocking with Deshaun.
02:32You're going to need that same thing.
02:34Just because you take a guy with the first, second, third, 10th pick doesn't mean that
02:38guy's going to be ready to start day one.
02:39And listen, I'll be firmly in the camp of, I want to see the guy, whoever it is, get drafted.
02:43If that does go, if that does happen that way, I want to see that player start right
02:45away.
02:46And I know we're going to have a lot of disagreements about that and I'm ready for that and that's
02:49fine, but I will want to see them start right away.
02:51But the Browns want to have options within that.
02:53And you also then have to protect yourself for the idea of what if that quarterback,
02:57what if you just take a quarterback that's going to need a little bit more time in general
03:00and isn't ready and you can't start right away for whatever reason, you have to have
03:04players on the team that can actually do this.
03:05And I don't think that's going to be Dylan Gabriel guys.
03:07I just don't.
03:08Yeah.
03:09Nor do I think it's going to be Taylor and Green.
03:11I cannot remember what, because it was again, like a bleacher report guy.
03:14Hey, he'll get action on Saturday.
03:16It was like, Hey, this Taylor and Green guy, by the end of the season, they're going to
03:19turn to him to be the franchise guy.
03:21It's like, is Jeff Phelps writing for bleacher report now?
03:23I will know because it would have been, well, they always thought they're also trading for
03:26Will Levis.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Oh, they're all, who's the other?
03:29Oh, Anthony Richardson.
03:31Yeah.
03:31They're going to, the quarterback room is going to be Will Levis, Anthony Richardson and Taylor
03:34and green.
03:35And they're all going to rotate snaps in the month of December.
03:38That would be Jeff Phelps's wet dream.
03:39He's got a love for green that I just does not exist for basically anybody else.
03:44He has a love of crappy quarterbacks.
03:47And yet he looks at Deshaun and Shador and says, it's too crappy.
03:51The math doesn't math for me.
03:52You know, I love me some Jeff Phelps.
03:54I should have asked him Woodridge bulldog.
03:55I should have asked him about his thoughts about Bayon's because I needed his help yesterday.
03:58And by the way, Mina Kimes, I swear to you not Mina Kimes within the first five minutes
04:04of that podcast that I went back and then listened to this morning was like, yeah, Tyson would
04:08easily start over both Shador and Deshaun if she was on the, if he was on the Browns.
04:12I just can't make, I can't make it up.
04:15I know she said it.
04:16I can't make it up.
04:17And I believe that she believes that, but we're, we're taking cuckoo pills.
04:21It was all in Kruitz that started the whole thing, but now Mina's like, yeah, he would
04:24definitely start over.
04:25He's like, I'd love to see him in the Browns offense.
04:27He would definitely minus the swag.
04:30He would definitely start over both Shador and Deshaun.
04:32It just, there are certain quarterbacks who stink on the field and, and then they're
04:37like given like, yeah, but he was in a bad situation.
04:40And then they become backup somewhere and people are like, that guy's got it.
04:44It's like, no, he's just Gardner Minshew minus the mustache.
04:46Well, the thing with Tyson is that he's always kind of been this like preseason Hall of Famer.
04:49He's made his money in these preseason games, just kind of balling out and showing flashes
04:54that nobody believes is going to translate to the actual games, but there's enough of a curiosity
04:58now attached to it.
04:59Now, uh, while we have, uh, called the quarterback competition kaput, uh, mostly just judging off
05:06of Todd Munkin's body language, Todd Munkin's, uh, splitting up of the reps this week and how
05:12things kind of go.
05:13Even Todd Munkin's comment about, well, I want to be fair to Shador, so I'm going to start
05:17him on Saturday.
05:18I would be, as I would say, being fair to Shador is not closing the door prematurely on
05:24the quarterback room, but again, to, to each their own, uh, Andrew Siciliano was on
05:29today on the station, which show?
05:32Baskin and Phelps.
05:33It was Dine.
05:34Dine's just one of the best interviews I have heard.
05:36I actually should know that by the way.
05:38And congrats to Andrew on the, uh, the new job with the NFL network.
05:40Yeah.
05:40We actually, we talked a lot of baseball with him out of camp.
05:43We had a couple.
05:44I think he's, I think he's great.
05:45I love it.
05:45I love Andrew.
05:47He's very, what was that?
05:48I think we all heard that tone.
05:51What?
05:52I think we've heard it.
05:54What tone?
05:55He's been incredibly nice to us.
05:56Did you say tone?
05:57Yeah.
05:58What tone?
05:58Oh, what tone?
05:59I, you know, there was just though, it was like Deshaun earlier with the, uh, I'm just
06:03messing with you.
06:04I should probably be clear on this one.
06:05I can do this with people around the station.
06:07I don't want to do that with Andrew.
06:09He's really nice to us.
06:10When we got put up in the Browns radio network, who was the one saying hi to us down the
06:14hall and, and he did such a nice gesture and such a nice thing.
06:17Cause he actually is a big shot.
06:18Uh, you know, I, I say hi to Andrew.
06:20He says, hi back and does all that stuff.
06:21And then he looks at the both of us and goes, oh, I didn't know two celebrities walked into
06:25the room and I had to do the whole, like who thing.
06:27But that was really like, that was that when you're in that spot, the way he is, that's,
06:32that's just a high class move in operation by Andrew.
06:35I bet you believes you now.
06:36Oh, unbelievable.
06:39You're just the worst.
06:41We're having fun.
06:42Just the worst.
06:43Are we having fun?
06:43I don't want to reverse this one right now.
06:48Cause I'm not, I'm higher than that.
06:50I'm better than that.
06:51Let me see the card.
06:52I'm not going to do that to you.
06:53I'm not going to do that to you.
06:55Anyway, Siciliano killed it on the midday show today.
06:57Congrats on the new job.
06:59Great, great stuff.
07:00Always great.
07:01Uh, that's my, that's my original red zone guy, by the way, Andrew Siciliano, you never
07:04forget your original red zone guy.
07:06The more you talk about it, the less I think he's going to believe you saying Shador can still
07:10win the job.
07:11It is still a legitimate competition.
07:13It truly is.
07:14They each deserve a start.
07:16That is fair.
07:17Truly.
07:18And they're going to get as equal a distribution of reps as a coach can give in a joint practice.
07:25However, if Shador comes out on Saturday and throws three touchdowns, don't you think he
07:32made a pretty good case to win the job?
07:34Whether it's against the Bills' first team or the second team.
07:37And let's say it's against the second team that on Thursday, he looks pretty good when
07:41he gets his reps against their first team.
07:44I mean, to me, that's a pretty convincing case to give him the job.
07:48Conversely, if Deshaun looks good and or bad against the second and third or fourth team
07:53in the third quarter, people will use his opposition, like who he's going against, against
07:58him.
07:58I think Shador can still win this job.
08:00So that's just where I beg to differ.
08:03I think we're latent enough in this.
08:05We've heard enough.
08:06A few should praise by Todd Munkin.
08:07Again, the way they split up the reps this week tell me that the Shador part of this week
08:14is perfunctory, which is fine, but I think the worst thing Todd Munkin can do is come
08:19out here and say, hey, Shador's still got a shot, and sell that fight.
08:24Now, again, he might share different messaging behind the scene, and then what I'm saying
08:29doesn't matter.
08:30But if his internal messaging is matching his external messaging, I don't think anyone's
08:37buying it.
08:38And I don't think that helps Todd Munkin in a locker room if that's what he's doing.
08:41I mean, it's over.
08:42It's been over now for days, and I respect Andrew a lot, but him saying this is a competition
08:48doesn't mean that it's all of a sudden a competition.
08:50In fact, when we first were talking about this in the pre-show, Jake is the one that
08:54brought it up.
08:54Did we call the quarterback competition too soon?
08:56And I wanted to almost yell at him and be like, where are you getting this?
09:00How did this get into your brain?
09:01What happened?
09:02What changed in, I don't know, 24 hours to all of a sudden have this thing open?
09:06Now, if he had presented this comment maybe after the two-interception day by Deshaun
09:10Watson, maybe I'd at least have a basis for like, is this where you're getting this from?
09:14Who are you talking to?
09:16But look, the two-interception day happened, and it didn't change a thing.
09:20Tomorrow, if Deshaun Watson looks bad against the Bills, that will not change a thing.
09:23And anything that happens on Saturday, again, it's not going to change a thing.
09:27Their mind has been made up.
09:29And injury is the only way that this thing actually gets changed.
09:32But obviously, you can't forecast that.
09:34Yeah, and that would be the one real disaster here.
09:37If they've made their intentions known to anybody that pays attention, that locker room
09:41will know, by the way.
09:42If they've done this, and then Deshaun gets hurt, and then Shador has to start week one,
09:48I don't know you could neuter a young quarterback more than that exact way of thing happening.
09:53If anything, if Deshaun really is the starting quarterback, and again, the rest of this week
09:57is perfunctory as it seems, you've got to hope for Deshaun to stay healthy at least
10:03through the first couple weeks of the season, and then you kind of go from there.
10:07Yeah, and there's a part of me that wonders why they're continuing on this.
10:11It's not a charade, but really, I mean, let's call it whatever you want to call it.
10:15But the song and dance that they're doing right now, where they're splitting it up five
10:18and five, like if you know Deshaun is the guy, then you should just make Deshaun the guy
10:22and give him all the reps against Buffalo and get him as ready as you can for week one.
10:25I agree, and again, I think Todd's trying to stay consistent with his plan,
10:30but if whatever he saw on Saturday was enough for him, then I think plans change.
10:36It's weird that he has made the point about, hey, plans change before,
10:40and then this is the one he's sticking to.
10:43I severely doubt that it's in some sort of fear of Shador fans.
10:47I understand he wants to be fair to Shador, but fair to Shador is being honest with him,
10:51and I think Todd knows that.
10:52And at this point, I think it'd be well within his rights.
10:55If he decided Deshaun's the guy and that's it and that's what he wanted to do,
10:58then Shador can handle it.
10:59He's a big boy.
11:00Tell him the news and then get Deshaun as ready as you possibly can.
