00:00I treat everybody the same, whether you're Beyonce or Sarah.
00:06Everybody gets the same treatment, same creative process, same kindness and friendliness.
00:15Hi, I'm Rita Hazan, celebrity colorist.
00:19I also have a product line that I sell at Walmart and we're here at my beautiful salon, Manhattan.
00:24Some of my most famous clients are Beyonce, Jessica Simpson.
00:29I created the looks for Mariah Carey, Katy Perry, JLo.
00:34So the first time I worked with Beyonce, she wanted to make her hair blonder, but she always found her
00:40hair got brassy.
00:41She heard that that was my specialty and from that moment on, it was just like a match made in
00:46heaven.
00:47So when working with my clients, Beyonce, let's say, for example, we'll discuss something and I'll say,
00:53okay, this is what I think, this is where we're going with this, you should do this, you shouldn't do
00:57this.
00:57And she's like, okay, whatever, you know, you know what I'm doing, you know what look I'm going for, just
01:02do it.
01:26Hi.
01:26Nothing in between, no wishy-washy, nothing natural, nothing subtle, but it has to be dramatic.
01:32I like that she's more adventurous and wants to try something new and trust me, that's very flattering.
01:37I wanted this hair color to be a surprise because I don't necessarily know about like color theory,
01:46all of the things that go along into hair care and figured it was better for me to just let
01:53someone take the reins.
01:54And also, I love a surprise.
01:57During COVID, I got laid off and didn't know what to do and I was stuck at home just like
02:04all of us were
02:05and so I figured it was a good opportunity to have fun with my hair.
02:09All right, chin down again, say like that.
02:12We want chic and healthy.
02:14I love that.
02:14I tried hot pink first and then did like a periwinkle blue, an orange, a purple.
02:22I kind of did all of, all, every color you can think of.
02:26Hey, Annie, what are you thinking so far?
02:28I haven't had bangs since I was like 24, so it's been a long time and I'm excited about it.
02:39My general philosophy about hair color is anyone can be any color if it's the right tone for them.
02:47Also, the number one rule for me is keeping the hair healthy is the most important.
02:52So if you want to be a specific color, but I don't think your hair is going to be able
02:56to be healthy, I won't do it.
02:59Now, I'm doing a single process color, which is going to make it richer, a little deeper, and warmer.
03:07A lot of my clients, I work with them for many, many years and once you get into a rhythm
03:14with somebody
03:15and you know like how their hair reacts and what works, what doesn't, what works on camera, you know,
03:20I always do so much research on my own colors and different lighting and different places.
03:26I went through a breakup, you know, in college and did the whole dye your hair black as soon as
03:32you go through it
03:33and that was a mistake on my skin tone and just in general.
03:37Choosing to dye my hair now just because it needed a lot of love and it just felt like the
03:44time to do it.
03:45It's a change of seasons and because I have no idea what we're doing, it just makes it fun.
03:51For me, it's important to understand where Annie's coming from.
03:55What's going on in Annie's life, what mood is she in, is she in a fall winter mood, does she
04:00want to stay blonde.
04:02So I want to get into it with her, is she high maintenance, is she low maintenance, so that I
04:07could create a look that works best for her.
04:15All right, Annie, final reveal, how do you feel?
04:20I love it. I feel so refreshed and like cool.
04:27I just feel cool. I don't know. I just feel like I'm like a cool girl, like a certified cool
04:33girl now because of this.
04:35I chose this color for Annie because I think it's a big departure from what she's been doing for so
04:41many years.
04:41I would say this color is like a rich chocolate brown with caramel highlights and it'll grow out really easy.
