00:00The thing I'm the most fearful of is I haven't seen people
00:03with these different hairstyles who look like me
00:06with the same skin tone as me, but I'm super excited for this.
00:09I saw this look done on Hailey Bieber, and I absolutely loved it.
00:13Hey, I'm Mina Daideen, and today I'm getting a Hailey Bieber-inspired look.
00:19I really wanted to do something new with my hair,
00:22especially since I just turned 30 years old.
00:25I wanted to feel like a new woman. It's a new chapter of my life.
00:28And I've been wanting to go blonde for a while,
00:31but I came across a photo of Hailey Bieber, and it was so beautiful.
00:35Her hair was perfectly blended with these ashy blonde highlights,
00:40and I was like, I want that.
00:42The very first time I did anything to my hair was before prom in 2009,
00:48and I got Harmel highlights, but then I never got them again
00:52because they were so hard to maintain, so I would go red all the time.
00:57During the pandemic, I even tried box dyes,
01:00and that was a total disaster because my hair would not pick it up,
01:04and I felt like I kept damaging my hair again and again.
01:08So I'm so excited that today I am getting my hair done
01:12by the same exact colorist who did Hailey Bieber's hair.
01:17Hi, guys. My name's Cassandra Kading, and I'm a colorist based in L.A.
01:23I specialize in a lot of different colors, color corrections, color changes,
01:28simple color, everything.
01:30Today, we're going to take Mina from a box color dye
01:35from basically red to a Hailey Bieber-inspired hair color,
01:39and I just want to make sure that you guys know
01:42that this hair color will look very different on every person.
01:46So you want to make sure that you know
01:48that you have the right skin tone and the color to get this process.
01:52Hi, my name's Cassandra.
01:54Hi.
01:54So nice to meet you.
01:55I'm Mina. Nice to meet you, too.
01:56Nice to meet you as well. What are we doing today?
01:58I think it would be really awesome
02:00if we could do a bunch of highlights throughout my hair,
02:03something to really lighten and lift it,
02:05and something that will also accentuate my skin tone.
02:08I think you'll be fantastic.
02:09And I trust the process.
02:11Oh, you know what? I got you. This will be fantastic.
02:15So day one, she has her natural root.
02:18I saw that she has a box color on her mince ends.
02:23So I just want every person, every client to know
02:26that red is the hardest color to keep
02:29and the hardest color to get out.
02:31So what I decided to do was go in and remove the color.
02:36So you're going to go in and adjust the roots.
02:37You're going to apply it to the roots and regrow.
02:47Once you get the roots to a desired color,
02:50you're going to start pulling it through the ends
02:52if you're going to rinse.
02:57So once that's done,
02:59you're going to saturate the mince and ends again,
03:01just to make sure that it's lighten up
03:04and it's the desired color that you need.
03:08And then after that, I saw the red wasn't budging.
03:11As we know, red is the hardest color to keep
03:14and the worst color to get out.
03:16But as a professional, I had to like stop
03:18and be like, let's separate this.
03:21Let's do it in two sittings instead of one.
03:23And we're like, okay, she's going to be redhead
03:25for a few days.
03:26I never in a million years thought
03:28that I could pull off strawberry blonde hair.
03:31And it feels like I had a fun little alter ego
03:33for a week.
03:35Day two is here.
03:36The palette is clean.
03:37It's very even from roots to ends,
03:39which is fantastic.
03:41So you want to make sure that you apply
03:43from roots to mids.
03:51Make sure that you saturate really well.
03:53And then what you're going to do is you're going to add
03:55a little bit of water, put your hands through it,
03:57and then let it run through and rinse.
04:06We wanted to make sure that there was some beautiful
04:09like base-faring pieces.
04:10Take a really thin layer around from the part
04:14all the way to the ear, and then brighten it up.
04:18Add some highlights all the way through the same side.
04:21You're going to mimic from left to right.
04:24So what I decided to do is balayage pieces
04:28and then put a soft layer of saran,
04:31which is color safe.
04:33It's going to give you a really even saturation and heat.
04:38What you see is what you get.
04:46So you're going to see, oh, my gosh,
04:48it's lifting from roots to mids to ends.
04:51That awesome transition of color.
04:59And now, time for the reveal.
05:02Here we go.
05:06Oh, my God.
05:07This is seriously so beautiful.
05:17See, I feel like right now I'm like processing it,
05:19so I'm not saying anything.
05:21This is seriously so pretty.
05:22And it's healthy.
05:23Yeah.
05:24That's the most important part.
05:25That was my biggest fear going into this.
05:28I'm like, I already messed up my hair with box dye.
05:30Is this the point of no return?
05:32But you brought my hair back to life.
05:34So your regrowth is going to be a lot softer
05:37than if you were trying to be a blonde.
05:40I feel so incredible.
05:42When I saw the final result, I was like,
05:45I love this.
05:46Like, this is really cool.
05:48What I really love about this new hair
05:50is the fact that it is new.
05:52I feel like what I really wanted turning 30
05:55was to embrace a new chapter of my life
05:58and to have something that felt new and refreshing.
06:01At first, I thought that I wanted to go blonde.
06:03And when I thought about it,
06:05I was like, that might be a little bit too extreme.
06:07So this was the perfect balance of doing a change
06:10that was drastic enough to make a difference
06:12in the way that I perceived my outward appearance.
06:15But also, I felt like it's something
06:18that I can definitely maintain.
06:20Mina has been so fantastic.
06:23She literally has sat here with us for hours,
06:26making sure that we make the appropriate transition
06:29to get her the hair color that she wants.
06:32Working with Cassandra was incredible
06:34because I just feel like she's so knowledgeable in her craft.
06:38And I felt like when she was doing everything,
06:39she was incredibly meticulous.
06:41And she knew when to stop and say,
06:43okay, let's divide this up into two sessions now.
06:46We've done enough for the day.
06:47And I really appreciated that about her
06:50because she was never in a rush
06:51and she really took her time with it
06:53and did such incredible work.
06:55It's so exciting to see a transformation,
06:58to be able to turn someone around
07:00and look at their face
07:01and see how excited and happy they are
07:04about how they feel and how they look.
07:06That's the best part of my job.
