00:20I'm having such FOMO looking at celebrities like Tan France, J Lo's hairstylist Chris
00:25Appleton, Zac Efron did it earlier this summer.
00:28I really want this fun pop of silver hair because it's so hot right now.
00:32So when I bleached my hair in high school, I had this kind of crazy experience with it.
00:36It ended up turning a different color, sort of scarred me and I wasn't really ready to
00:40do that to my hair again.
00:41Although in the early 2000s, I did tip my hair, this kind of flaming red color a la NSYNC.
00:48And now because people are doing their hair in these most extreme colors and it looks
00:52so vibrant and so beautiful and so wild, I'm like, it's time.
00:56It's time for me to get that sneak peek of that zaddy look that I'm going to be having
01:00in the coming years.
01:01So I'm ready for it.
01:03To me, nothing is more sexy than seeing a man who has a beautiful head of hair that's
01:07salt and pepper or silver.
01:09I mean, embrace your age.
01:10Now we're living in a time that people can sort of be their natural selves and just let
01:15their hair be any color they want.

01:28So have you ever colored your hair before?
01:30It's been about 20 years or so.

01:34So we're really ready for the transition.
01:36I'm not going to lie.
01:37I'm a little nervous.
01:38What are you nervous about?
01:39This intense burning of the scalp that I've heard so many brunettes tell me about who
01:43bleached their hair.
01:44Can you coach me on that?
01:45Completely normal.
01:46Itchy burning is normal.
01:48If you feel like you're on fire, not normal.
01:51Okay?

02:02For Steve today, we did a global application, which is when you apply bleach to the roots
02:08end to ends.
02:09With Steve, we started on his ends first and then applied it to his scalp.
02:13The reason we did this is so that we can get Steve's hair as light as possible.
02:19We want to go through all the colors of red, orange, yellow, and get to a pale yellow.
02:25And once we get there, that's when we can apply a gloss that's going to give it that overall
02:30platinum gray tone.
02:33Growing up, everyone in my family has this beautiful dark hair.
02:36You know, my mom's side is Mexican.
02:38My dad's side is Japanese.
02:39So we've kind of had this like rich dark chocolate jet black hair.
02:43And I'm curious what my family's going to think when they see that my hair is completely
02:46white.
02:48My boyfriend Barry's a little, no, he's not indifferent about it.
02:51He's actually kind of anti this.
02:53He's like, why would you want to do that?
02:55You have beautiful dark hair.
02:56And I'm like, because I want to get the sneak peek.
02:58So I'm really excited to let him know and let him see what this final look is.

03:43So I'm going to actually pour some milk on your head now.
03:45I know that sounds weird.

03:47But the milk is going to soothe your scalp after we've had the bleach and the toners on.
03:52So it's going to really calm everything down and close the cuticle.

03:58Steve's color overall took three hours.
04:01This is generally a very short amount of time and that's because he had short hair.
04:05And also he has virgin hair, which is very important when you're doing this process.
04:10The reason is important is because when you have old color on your ends, it's very difficult
04:16to lift it out.
04:17Sometimes it's not possible at all.
04:19So if you have virgin hair, you're ahead of the game.

05:46I was concerned about these horrible burns and welts in my scalp.
05:49Well, I don't have any kind of burning sensation.
05:52It feels so natural.
05:53And it still is like the shape of my hair and the natural curl.
05:57So this might stick around.
