A pilgrimage and holiday trip turned tragic after a speeding SUV carrying a newlywed couple and their relatives crashed into a container truck on the Ara–Buxar four-lane road under the Bihiya Police Station limits in Bihar's Bhojpur district on Sunday morning.

According to police, the SUV was travelling from Delhi to Deoghar in Jharkhand when it rammed into the rear of a container truck at an estimated speed of around 150 kmph. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was mangled beyond recognition, and locals, along with police personnel, had to make strenuous efforts to extricate the occupants from the wreckage.

Traffic DSP Manoj Kumar Sudhanshu said four people were travelling in the SUV. Three of them, including a husband and wife, died on the spot, while the fourth occupant sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.

The deceased have been identified as 32-year-old Prakash Singh, his 28-year-old wife Pallavi Singh, and Prakash's cousin, 24-year-old Sourav Singh. The injured, Kumar Gourav, is a friend of Sourav.

Police said the bodies have been sent to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination, and the victims' families have been informed. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.

According to family members, Prakash, an engineer with a reputed company in Jharkhand and a native of Bihar's Saran district, had married Pallavi in February this year. The couple, along with their relatives, had recently visited the Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal and later travelled to Manali in Himachal Pradesh. They were returning to Deoghar from Noida, where they had stayed with relatives, when the fatal accident occurred.

Locals said Prakash was driving the SUV, while Pallavi was seated beside him in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash.
