Abhishek Banerjee Shares CCTV Video, Blames BJP for 'Goonda Raj'

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee has shared CCTV footage allegedly showing a motorcycle-borne man throwing stones at the gate of his Kolkata residence and smashing a first-floor window with a large stone.

The CCTV footage, which Banerjee claimed was recorded early on Tuesday, shows a helmeted man wearing a blue T-shirt stopping his motorcycle, picking up a stone and hurling it towards the house. He is seen repeating the act before leaving the spot.

Sharing the video on X, Banerjee alleged that the incident reflected the "complete normalisation of violence under BJP's goonda raj" and questioned the absence of police despite a nearby Kolkata Police kiosk.

"Where was the police? Under whose instructions did this miscreant carry out such a brazen attack and walk away with complete impunity?" Banerjee wrote.

He also questioned whether the newly passed West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Bill, 2026, would be applied to "BJP-backed criminals".

The BJP rejected the allegations. Diamond Harbour BJP MLA Dipak Kumar Haldar dismissed Banerjee's claims, alleging that the TMC leader was attempting to remain politically relevant and seeking enhanced security.

The incident comes amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal. Recently, the Calcutta High Court directed the state government to submit a detailed report on incidents involving stone and egg attacks on political leaders since the 2026 Assembly election results and asked police to frame strict guidelines to curb such violence.

Banerjee had also faced an attack in Sonarpur on May 30, when a mob allegedly hurled stones and eggs at him during a visit to families affected by post-poll violence.

The authenticity of the CCTV footage has not been independently verified.
