00:07Hello and welcome to Gangs All Here. My name is Ryan Sampson. He's my guy Frankie Vitorini
00:11from U Stadium. Kaz is on vacation, where we got you covered on today's episode. We got special
00:16guest, former Jet safety Kerry Rhodes on the show today, talking Jets football, what he expects
00:21about this Jets season. He's got some surprise predictions about the Jets this upcoming season.
00:25You guys aren't going to miss that later in the episode. But before we get to any of
00:28that, as always, I'm going to start with Frankie. How are you doing today, bud?
00:32I'm doing well, man. I'm doing well outside of the outside feeling like you're walking
00:36into a sauna. It's unbelievable out there. But listen, man, football is around the corner.
00:42Yeah. We're in the midst of...
00:44It's July 1st today. I mean, we are, what, 20 some odd days away from training camp starting.
00:49Yep, three weeks and change. So yeah, and I'll say this for the Jets specifically, this training
00:54camp, I think, is going to be very important. And it's going to be indicative as to how good
00:58they play come September, because we saw last year that there were some issues with the offense.
01:04Yep.
01:04And they always followed them, you know, followed with them right into September. So let's see
01:09how they look in training camp. But yeah, I'm excited, man. I'm excited.
01:12You have to be. It's that little bit of that dead period right now, obviously, as we're in
01:17between mandatory minicamp, offseason program, right into training camp. That's when the hype really
01:21starts. And we get to see this football team finally fully assembled on the field. But
01:27look, I think what's interesting is that there's still grades and analysis on these teams and
01:32how their offseasons went. And the Jets and ESPN, Seth Walder put together his offseason
01:38grades from all the moves, whether it's free agent signings, trades to the draft. He put
01:43all this together and he give the Jets a grade of C. Ooh, not great. I think a lot of
01:49Jets
01:49fans would agree, though, that they thought this was actually a better offseason and wouldn't
01:53have given him a C. Do you agree with the grade that he gave them for this offseason
02:00and all the moves they made?
02:01Yeah. Well, I was discussing this with someone. If we're talking strictly free agency, just
02:07free agency.
02:08Right.
02:09I'd seize fair. I'll be honest. I wasn't in love with the Jets free agency, period.
02:14I don't. And I also but I also don't think they needed to splurge necessarily in free
02:18agency. But some moves to me in free agency, I wasn't huge on, for example, the Minka Fitzpatrick
02:24trade. I thought you could assign the safety for less money that could have given you more
02:29value. I did like to Mario Davis. And then after that, I mean, on Yamato side, you have
02:36Enigbari Belton. I mean, like, all right, nation, right? These guys can potentially play,
02:41but they could potentially be, you know, next to, you know, fill in guys at a point
02:46too. So I wasn't in love with free agency. I don't think they made enough moves then.
02:52However, things changed when the draft came around. So where I was maybe at a C post free
03:00agency, I was at an A with their draft. I thought their draft, they hit a home run. I don't
03:06need
03:06to go through it. You know, I was one of David Bailey's biggest advocates. I Omar Cooper Jr.
03:13being able to round him out with Kenyon Sadiq in the first round just was a home run to me.
03:18You're just bringing in talent up, you know, upon talent. And I like what they did. I like what they
03:24did in the second round with Pons. D'Angelo Pons is a player that they need. He's a leader. He's
03:29tough. He's gritty. They need guys like that. We're going to speak to Kerry about that kind of stuff,
03:35the leadership stuff. They hit on all those bases. Can we critique some of their moves
03:40in the fourth round? So what grade would you give them then, Frankie?
03:42Well, combine a C and an A. So you give them a B? I give them a B. It's a
03:46B off season.
03:47I'm not going to go any higher or lower. I'm not going to be blinded by the light.
03:50That's where I would agree. I actually would give them a B as well. I think C's a little low.
03:55I think he's going after them because he didn't like them acquiring the aging veterans that you
03:59talked about in free agency. You know, let's not forget, Demario Davis is 37 years old.
04:03Like you always ask yourself when a player is that old and you're signing them, when
04:07is that cliff that they're going to fall off of? It could be this year. Like he had a very
04:12good year again last year, had a hundred plus tackles. Does he have that moment of, oh my
04:17God, I can't play football anymore. And he realizes that his career could be over. I'm not saying
04:22it's going to happen, by the way. I'm just saying that happens to every player in the NFL.
04:26Of course. You don't play till you're 50. Yeah. Literally time has, is undefeated and
04:32it comes for everyone father time. And it could happen for, for Demario Davis there, which
04:37means your quarterback and your defense could be an issue for you like defensively. Cause
04:41he's going to be calling the place for them. Jamie and Sherwood's going to slide over to
04:44the awful linebacker spot where you want him to play. Hopefully plays more to his strength
04:48there. So that you worry about. Uh, he didn't understand the David on Yamada siding at 33 years
04:52old defensive tackle. Look on Yamada is not going to be a like all pro type player. We
04:59know that, but he's going to provide depth for this defensive line. Uh, I, I, I think
05:04that Tavondre sweat trade is actually a huge plus for them. I've talked to you about how
05:08much I think he's going to have a big year for this team. He has to play for a contract
05:12here, former top top end pick. Um, he's a big body. He's going to stop the run. That's
05:19what they need on this defensive line. I think he's going to provide a lot more impact
05:22than a David on Yamada would the Minka Fitzpatrick. He is, uh, 29 years old. So you wonder again,
05:29with safeties, you know, hit that curve and Gino Smith, we got against that. Like he's 35
05:35years old, right? Like he's, he's here on a one-year deal. Um, right. It's a one-year
05:39deal. Or does he have another year? He has an option. He has an option for, for, for
05:43another year, but they do essentially it's like a one-year bridge quarterback option for
05:47them. But I would say, while you might like say, all right, Gino's not a bad acquisition.
05:52They didn't bring up any depth behind him. Like they didn't give a good backup quarterback
05:56option here. Like Clay, K Clubnick is the backup right now. I don't think he's, I don't think
06:02they're Bailey Zappi is going to be the backup for this team. Um, so I think that deserves
06:07a little bit of criticism, but then you talk about the draft and what everyone loved about
06:11what the jets did in the draft. I would give the draft more of a B plus than an A
06:15like you
06:15would. Um, just because I think there are serious question marks about Kenyon Sadiq's usage.
06:19How are they going to use him? Omar Cooper, like what, how does a rookie wide receiver
06:23really impact this offense? Um, but I love the De'Angelo Pons pick. Like I think he could
06:27actually be a real impact player for them. So I think C's harsh, but I would give them
06:33a B if I was being, if I was grading their off season right now.
06:36Totally. And the, and the one reason I didn't bring up Gino Smith or Tavondre Sweat when I'm
06:40bringing up what the off season is I'm 50, 50 on both those moves. And let me explain
06:45why I think there's a world where those guys hit a ceiling and we're like, damn, we haven't
06:50seen that from that kind of trade before. Or on the other end, they hit a floor. That's
06:55like, damn, these guys are unplayable and they won't play. That's possible. Listen, we
07:00all talk about Tavondre Sweat. He has, I'm not trying to be negative, but he has conditioning
07:04issues. If he can't play up front with Jawan Briggs and those guys and Harrison Phillips
07:08and they're outplaying him and outworking him, he's not going to see a lot of playing
07:13time. I know we look at the highlights with that kid, but you also also consider the other
07:17things with Tavondre Sweat, which is why he was a very highly touted pick out of the draft
07:22and player and prospect and really got moved within a few years. So we got to put that in
07:28perspective, but I do like the upside with the move. We didn't give up much to get him.
07:32So it makes sense to kind of try to beef up the front line, especially when you struggled
07:37against the run as much as we did the last couple of years. But the, the one thing with
07:42the off season that we have to look at, and I'm going to go back to the draft and it's
07:48not D'Angelo Pond. It's not Kate Klubnik. It's the first two picks. When you're drafting
07:53two guys in the top half of the draft, right? And one guy second overall, David Bailey, and
07:59then Kenyon Sadiq 16th, those two guys better deliver. When you pick a tight end 16th overall,
08:07you are saying that you're getting one of the best tight ends in football come year three or
08:12four of their careers. You don't take a tight end 16th overall to be cute and, and see if he
08:18can fit
08:19in or even in the, uh, the realm of what we thought of when we drafted Mason Taylor while 42nd
08:25overall, you can't took them a year after, like you just said, a guy you took in the second round
08:29of Mason Taylor. You took him almost 30 picks above Mason Taylor. Think about that. So you're
08:35bringing in a tight end that maybe he doesn't reach his ceiling or he doesn't reach anywhere
08:40close to his ceiling in year one, but you do want to see some of that pop. You do want
08:44to see some
08:45of those plays that Kenyon Sadiq shows you truly how explosive and what a freak he is. And he is.
08:51So I, I actually liked the pick and I liked the pick because I liked that the Jets are thinking
08:55differently. The Jets would have never, and the Jets never select a player like Kenyon Sadiq 16th
09:01overall. Never. It's always a corner. It might be a defensive lineman. We had edge guys. We took
09:0716th Quinn Copels around that. Like those are Jets picks. Kenyon Sadiq's not a Jets pick. So I liked
09:12that they're doing that. And then we're going to go to the guy that was drafted in front of him.
09:16The first first rounder and David Bailey. I love David Bailey. He would have been my pick. I
09:22wouldn't even have thought about it. We've talked about him at length on this show, but Hey, right
09:27now you're coming into camp, buddy. You got to prove it. This is your time to prove it. We've heard
09:34everything about your run deficiencies. And I think that stuff's overblown, but we've heard about it.
09:40Let's see how you play. Let's see when you're lining up against. And I think we'll get a sense Ryan
09:45of how David Bailey plays against the run when he's going up against Armand Membu specifically
09:51and Olu Fashanu. So we'll get a sense of him. I love the pick though. So we'll see how this
09:57off season shapes out based on, I don't think it has to be the course of a full season, but
10:02I need
10:03to see moments from Bailey and Sadiq where I'm like, wow, those guys are Cooper. They traded up to
10:11get another first round. Yeah. Yeah. You know what? He's another one that you have to put in that
10:15sort of realm to a degree receiver room. He does Mitchell. Like it's just, he's got to help Garrett
10:20out too. It's all going to come down to like you, what you're saying right now, the young players
10:24making an impact on this team immediately, because that is where you're going to be able to determine
10:29how this off season went totally the veterans that they brought in. I think they're more from
10:32a veteran leadership point point of view. I think they're trying to get guys in the locker room
10:37who've been there, done that can show the younger guys. This is how you can play winning football
10:41because there's a lot of guys on this team, Frankie, who have not played on winning teams
10:44and that Reese Hall and Garrett Wilson included. So I think the jets when they brought in a lot of
10:50guys from winning programs, Darren Muge and Aaron Glenn clearly had a mindset of let's find guys that
10:54have been on winning teams and they can bring that mindset here to the locker room and help change
10:59this culture that has been so, so bad for so many years now. Yeah. And Ryan, it ultimately comes down
11:06to one person though, the most important person here at the top of the pyramid of this whole thing.
11:10It's Aaron Glenn. It's Aaron Glenn. Um, there's no reason to have faith in Aaron Glenn, but there's
11:17no reason to completely jump off the cliff with Aaron Glenn. He's only been here for a year.
11:21This is the year for me last year. I tried not to overreact too much. We did. We tried to
11:27just be a
11:27little more, you know, level-headed. We just got out of that Rogers sort of did, you know, that Rogers
11:33fumble. I call it because it just never worked out and it could have, which sucks, but we were,
11:39you know, ready for something a little different. It was a, it was a perfectly bad storm with Glenn
11:45and fields and the Owen seven start and trading sauce and Quinn. And I was like, what the hell is
11:49going on here? But it's a new year. It's a new roster. You have new coaches everywhere. You have new
11:56leaders. Let's see what you could put together. Aaron Glenn is now going to be coaching the defense.
12:02Also, what do you do defensively? Do I see anything unique? You, you, you're talking about
12:07Jamie and Sherwood earlier playing next to DeMario and being in more of an off ball. You're going to
12:12send them a little bit. You know, DeMario has over 40 sacks in his career. You're going to send him.
12:17You have Osai and Igbari on Yamada. They can play everywhere. They should. And, but, but even getting
12:23to the, Ryan, I'm telling you, if this team, I don't think this team's run stopping woes are going
12:30to be fixed this year. I'll just be honest. But what I do think it'll be better, but I don't
12:35think it's going to be fixed. What I do think could be solved is this turnover issue. I think
12:42this team could potentially force a lot of turnovers because I think they could force pressure on the
12:47quarterback. Glenn's got to put him in that position like he did in Detroit at times,
12:51honestly, a hundred percent, a hundred percent. And he's got to prove it to himself. And he's got
12:54to prove it to this team and the owner that he can be a good head coach and that he
12:57can call a good
12:58defense here. But that's what Seth Walder gave that grade. He gave it a C. I think Frankie and
13:03I both agree. We give them a B for this off season. Jets fans, let us know what you think
13:06in the
13:06comments. If you think the Jets had a better off season than when Seth Walder gave him a C.
13:11But also now it's time to go to our interview with our friend, Kerry Rhodes. It's a fun interview.
13:17Stick around. He's going to give us some predictions on this Jets upcoming season. Let's see if you agree
13:21with him. And now we're joined by former Jets safety, Kerry Rhodes. Played with the Jets for
13:28five seasons. Really excited to have him here on Gangs All Here. Kerry, thank you. How are you doing?
13:34How's this summer months of the heat in July right now in the Northeast is pretty crazy. But how is
13:40your summer treating you, man? Man, thanks for having me, guys. Things are well, man. I'm in LA and
13:46obviously it's, we're just leaving June gloom at the moment. So it's always a little, a little
13:51gloomy in the morning, but the sun pokes out during the day and it's actually been more humid
13:56here than usual. So it feels like I'm back East. It feels like I'm in New York right now,
14:00but it's been good, man. Things are, I'm blessed. I'm grateful out here. Well, we appreciate you
14:06hopping on here with us. We want to talk some Jets football with you. First and foremost, man,
14:11like this is, this is the, like you said, we're getting into July. Training camp is right around the
14:15corner. Do you, for you, what was it like getting into this moment of you finished up mandatory
14:21mini camp and now you're in your, your rest of your off season training, getting ready for training
14:25camp itself. What is your mentality like as a player getting ready for training camp coming up in a
14:31couple of weeks? Yeah, it's a tricky, it's a tricky thing. It's a, it's about balance. I mean,
14:36obviously you want to go into, uh, into training camp at your peak. Obviously that's, you want to come
14:42in looking like you've done the work, uh, looking like you're ready to, uh, embark on this long
14:48journey, which, you know, an NFL season is. And, but the other thing about that time, it's really
14:53the last little bit of time you're going to have to really be devoted and committed to your family
14:58as well. So making sure you get some of that in, get some of that love, get some of that
15:03attention
15:03that you need and make sure spiritually and mentally along with physically, you're ready
15:08to perform because it's, uh, it's a hall and you're stepping into a situation where, you know,
15:15in, in a lot of my cases, there's been high expectations. And I think even with teams that
15:19may not be thought of as, as great teams coming to the year, anything can happen during the season.
15:25And so you want to come in with that, you know, that, um, I guess that morale in yourself high,
15:31but also the morale leading to your team to be high as well. So it's about, it's a delicate balance.
15:36It's a dance. It's sort of a dance. Hey, Carrie, thanks for this, man. You're, you're the best.
15:41Carrie, as you guys and gals out there might not know, Carrie was at the draft party that we had.
15:46And, uh, he was actually sitting next to us when we got David Bailey and he's like,
15:50your boy. Yeah. My boy, Mary, that clip was all over the place. The jets are back. The jets are
15:58back. But speaking of the jets getting back, um, you were actually part of a team that went
16:04through a transition from Eric Mangini into Rex Ryan carry that year in 2009, you all made the
16:10AFC championship game. Um, the next year you ended up going to Arizona, but, um, what did you see
16:16from that transition from Mangini? You guys were nine and seven in 08, same record as 09. You just
16:22happened to qualify for the playoffs in 09, but what did you see was the difference? And how do you
16:26think this jets team today with Aaron Glenn and this sort of new staff, what can they kind of learn
16:31from what Rex and, and, and that staff had done? Well, the difference in the play, um, I don't know
16:39if
16:39it was any different meaning the year before that team we had, we could have made a deep
16:46run. Yeah. Yeah. I agree. Brett, Brett Barb and injury thing was something that was tricky for us.
16:51And obviously, you know, Brett wanted to continue to play, but if we have a quarterback that's healthy
16:56in that moment with the team we have, we can do some damage that year too. So, you know, you,
17:01you,
17:01you leave that year, you fast forward to a new coach coming in. And I think where Rex brought in
17:05was just, he had a different mentality. He had a different mindset. He had an energy where
17:12you couldn't really ignore the energy. Um, we had the players, we had the personnel. We obviously
17:17brought in some new guys, but we were already a competent team. We knew we had talent that we
17:22could win. And even during that year, we had adversity adversity, right? With, with Rex. I mean,
17:26we had, there was a moment where we didn't even think we made the playoffs. So, you know, a lot
17:30of
17:30people get, a lot of people forget those times. And I think for us though, we had so many mentally
17:35tough guys on that team, guys that were, had, had success in different places, had success on their
17:41own. And so to kind of rally behind a guy that was very brazen in his approach and the way
17:48he talked
17:49and it kind of infused in us as well. We kind of took on that personality and then we just
17:53ran with
17:53it once we had a chance. And once we got in, we really believed that we could beat anybody. And
17:59we,
17:59we almost did that.
18:00Look, Kerry, uh, it, it's funny. You talk about that Oh nine team. You had three interceptions
18:05that year. Uh, and, and you guys were like that defense. It felt like you had moments the year
18:12prior. Like you look strong. Like, like you said, I really thought you guys can make a run,
18:15but even with Rex, it felt like you guys even took that next step of being such a dominant defense,
18:20talking about how, how aggressive you were. The secondary was so dang good with you and Darrell,
18:27um, this jet secondary struggled to turn the ball over last year. We know they had zero
18:34interceptions last year. Uh, you, uh, talk about, I mean, Kerry, you had three interceptions that
18:40year alone as a safety for that Oh nine jets team. But for this jets team going into 2026 now,
18:48how do they change that overarching feeling of, holy crap, we couldn't turn the ball over last year.
18:54We had zero interceptions. What's the mentality that Aaron Glenn and this defensive back group
18:59have to have to start getting some turnovers every day in practice is about attacking the ball.
19:06Like I'm sure they have, I'm sure they implemented some of this stuff throughout the year when you're
19:10struggling the way they did, but it has to be a mentality. I mean, I don't care if the offensive
19:15guys get mad, like defensive guys, when you go into the ball and you're going to make a play,
19:20get the ball out. Yeah. Doesn't matter. Doesn't matter what the, if the guys want to fight you,
19:25then we fight and we, we make up and you know, it's part of practice, but go attack the ball.
19:31And I know Aaron Glenn, he's a defensive back. He's going to implement those things,
19:35but it has to be a lifestyle. Um, going to get the ball was something that I had to do.
19:41Yeah. I mean, I, I really thought that was my worth, right? And obviously I could do other
19:46things. I was a great communicator. I could, I could, I was a leader. I can put guys in the
19:50right position, but if you can't get turnovers, if you don't win the turnover margin in the battle
19:55in games, you won't win. And I think that's the, the number one thing for defense.
19:59Kerry, do you think that's something that comes innate with players? Certain players are just more
20:05prone to finding their way to the football, or do you think it's more of a coaching thing or
20:09somewhere? It's probably somewhere in the middle, I assume. Right. Oh yeah. Somewhere it's,
20:13I mean, you have guys that are more apt at getting the ball than others. Uh, that's the skill set.
20:19But when it comes to the mindset of we're going to be a defense that turns the ball over a
20:24lot of
20:24defensive coaches come in and say that, but it has to be a daily practice. Like you legitimately
20:29have to get the ball out. And so, I mean, any good defense, if you go back and look at,
20:34look at them statistically, they turn you over because at the end of the day,
20:39offense are good as well. So they're going to get drives. They're going to score,
20:42but if they don't have the ball, what can they not do?
20:46I mean, they can't score. That's, that's the problem that was killing that offense last year,
20:50too, besides the quarterback plays. And we talked about it. They don't ever have a short field because
20:55the defense turned the other team over and you're giving the ball, like you said, to the offense on a
20:59short field to give them a chance to score. It wasn't happening for the jets. They weren't playing that
21:04complimentary style of football whatsoever. And something, and something else too, guys,
21:08last year, teams didn't really have to do anything risque on offense at all. They were sort of on
21:14autopilot cruise control, run some of your most vanilla stuff. If they're not going to score,
21:19what do you need to push the ball down the field for? Teams weren't taking shots on the field
21:23against us, Kerry. That's no excuse for having zero interceptions and four. Kerry, they had four total
21:29turnovers all year. You look at Kerry's numbers for all year, Kerry, the whole year.
21:36I mean, you, you, you had seasons. You had more than that yourself. I, many of times.
21:42Yeah. You talk about the three, you talk about three interceptions in 09. That probably was my
21:46lowest from my, it was five years before that you would have, yeah, two fumble recoveries. You had
21:51four total. You had eight the next year in Arizona, you had four interceptions and four, four, uh,
21:57fumble recoveries. He had eight himself. That's how bad this defense was. So, so Kerry, I guess,
22:05talk to us about the acquisitions they made. Uh, they brought in a ball hawking safety like yourself
22:10in Minka Fitzpatrick. What do you expect from him? Cause I think you would agree. He's also
22:15going to bring a mental aspect, that mentality of taking the ball away. But what do you expect
22:19from Minka this year in this jets defense? Man, I used to, I was really high on Minka Fitzpatrick
22:24when he first came into the league. I mean, I'm a Alabama guy, so I saw him a lot. And,
22:28uh,
22:29yeah, he's one of those guys that goes and gets the ball, but for him,
22:33there's going to have to be a motive, a motivating factor for him to, to, to get him
22:38back in that place. Obviously he's a little older. Uh, I think once you get older in the league,
22:43it actually, it is a little easier if his body can hold up because he could, he's seen all the
22:48things
22:48that offenses are going to do. Um, he's going to be a step ahead of a lot of those guys.
22:53And so
22:53I hope he can bring that level of consistency on the, on the back end where like, I'm going to
22:59make
23:00a lot of plays in practice. So you're going to see this and then hopefully it translates to the game
23:03and those guys get to see a guy that's hungry for the ball. You got to be hungry for it.
23:08It's,
23:08it's not something that's just a casual thing. It's not trying to be cool. It's when the ball's in the
23:14air, like I really believe it's mine. And I think Minka Fitzpatrick is the same one.
23:18Yeah, no, absolutely, man. Yeah. The Jets need leadership and specifically Carrie and Rye,
23:24they need leadership at the quarterback position. We see right now with Gino Smith,
23:28there's all this stuff out there. He's having an issue with his girlfriend. She's accusing him of
23:33this and they, you know, the New York post had, had posted a, um, you know, body cam footage of
23:39a
23:40cop just pulling them over. And it seemed like Gino was kind of being rude. I don't know.
23:43Yeah. Things, things seem to follow Gino a bit. I don't want to make any assumptions,
23:48but do you think when there's sort of smoke, there's fire there when it comes to Gino Smith,
23:54not being mature enough to be the leader that this team needs? Or do you just think
23:58these are just all coincidences to a degree? Yeah, no, it's, uh, we're all complex humans,
24:05man. Yeah. We all make mistakes. We all do things that we want back, but I mean, obviously it's going
24:10to be magnified into the quarterback of the New York Jets or the quarterback of any, any franchise,
24:15but for Gino, I think he's early on in his career in New York, he had some of these things
24:19happen.
24:20Right. But it also seemed like he matured and went to different, to different teams and had
24:25different success and a different level of success in those places where, you know, people and teams
24:30were paying him big, big top dollars. So obviously they trust him. So I'm going to trust him until I
24:35see
24:35otherwise, but I think for him, this is a big chance for him to just end the state of New
24:41York
24:41for him to kind of resurrect his, his image, his career. I think a lot of this stuff is, you
24:46know,
24:47I think by default, like we're having this conversation about, is he a leader? Uh, is he
24:52mature enough? I think that's, I think that's stemming from his early, early days in New York,
24:57right? Cause it's not the tail end of his career in these other places. So let's, I want to be
25:02patient and
25:03give him the benefit of the doubt. And we'll see. Yeah. I mean, he had zero issues in his trips
25:09to Seattle, uh, and in Vegas. And obviously with the giants for briefly, like he never had anything
25:15going on off the field. It's just ironic. And, and unfortunately that stigma, that's going to be
25:21sticking around with the jets. And so they can break this curses. Of course it's the jets when he's back
25:25there. Now something's going on again with him in his personal life. And it's like, let's, let's avoid
25:30those issues. I think Aaron Glenn, you would agree, Kerry. He wants to go into this season with
25:34no issues off the field and just focus on football because it hasn't been pretty, the football on the
25:40field product, right? They come off a three win season last year. Their season total is five and
25:45a half going in for, uh, you know, according to draft Kings for this upcoming win, win over under and
25:50wins. Talk to me is, can they get more than five and a half wins this year with all the
25:56additions
25:56they made both offensively and defensively and through the draft with a bunch of rookies that
26:00they've imported. Kerry, Ryan wants some betting advice. He wanted to bet the over.
26:05Oh no. Ryan, bet the over. Wow. Okay. Just like that, huh, Kerry? That's it.
26:12Bet the over. This team is, wow. This is my sleeper team for the year. And I don't take that,
26:17um, lightly at all. I've already been on, on the record at my, you know, I work at, I'm at
26:23Fox Sports.
26:24So I have a, have my own show on Sundays on Fox Sports. And, um, I said, they're my sleeper
26:28team.
26:28I said, they're going to finish second in that division. So I think they have a chance to
26:33surprise a lot of people. You talk about maybe nine wins, maybe 10, like that's going to be right.
26:40That's going to be right at that. Uh, uh, that's, that's a lot, but Kerry, that's a six win
26:45improvement. My man, you see that happening. Oh, no. Oh, a hundred percent. I think this team
26:50offensively, they're more structured to be successful. And you talk about them playing
26:54complimentary football defense is going to be fine. If they can get some turnovers and, and,
27:00and win a couple of games that they shouldn't win, I could see them winning nine, nine games,
27:05nine, 10 games for sure. So I'm on the bandwagon early. You guys are hearing it here. I think they,
27:10I think they have a chance to make the playoffs. I'll say this. I've known Kerry for a bit. I've
27:16known Kerry for a long time. Maybe how long, I've known for 15 years. It feels like I'm not
27:20probably 15, 20. He's not a Homer. He's not, he won't just say a team's going to be good because
27:26he played for the jets. He's not, he's not that guy. So the fact that he's saying that,
27:30uh, maybe betting the over is not a bad, I'm not doing it, but
27:35he can do it. I'll say this, Kerry. I think I, I hear you. I, and the reasons you just
27:41stated do
27:41make sense. Talk to me though, about the importing of veteran leadership that they brought in with a
27:47Demario Davis. We just talked about Minka Fitzpatrick. They bring in a guy like Tavondre
27:51Sweat as well. David on Yamada, uh, Joseph Asai. And then on the offensive side of the ball,
27:57you know, it seems like they've gotten a very young, obviously with the, the talent that they
28:02have right now, the offensive line, you think is as some nice pieces. Gino's the veteran of that
28:06group. Garrett Wilson has been leaked for a little bit, but they bring in Omar Cooper,
28:10Kenyon Sadiq, Frank Reich's calling the Frank Reich's calling the shots. So it feels like overall,
28:15besides just the, the players, the personnel, everything seems like they brought in a lot of
28:20veterans and guys that have been around the league. And it feels like this team needed that,
28:25especially the coaching staff too. So what does that do for this team going into 2026?
28:30Yeah. The leadership aspect is going to be big. I think, uh, I know Frank Reich personally. He was,
28:35uh, he was a quarterback coach, uh, in Arizona when I got there. So I know him well,
28:39I know his leadership capabilities. He also connects with the guys on a different level. I know
28:44being the lead dog is a little different, but I know him and who he is and what he stands
28:49for.
28:50So that offense is going to be structured in a way where everybody's going to have a chance to be
28:54successful. And I think when you started thinking about some of the guys, they added to that, to that
28:59mix. You got Sadiq, you got, uh, you got Taylor, you got Mitchell, you got people in positions that I
29:05think are going to have breakout years. And so when you're able to do that, you're able to give
29:11your, your, your big, your big dogs, your breezes and, uh, and your Wilson's a chance to get some
29:17single coverage and, and get a chance to eat. And so the office is going to be well balanced
29:21in my opinion. And I'm not even talking about the street. I think the strength of their offense is
29:25the offensive line. So if you have that and you're able to dictate what you can do offensively
29:30with the leadership and the structure they have, I think they're going to be better. They're going
29:34to score more points. And so offense defensively, what that does for those leaders and those guys is
29:40you're not going out there every time saying offense is not going to score. So you just
29:44kind of go, so you just kind of go through the motions. That's not going to happen. And so
29:48just the energy, the verve, uh, the leadership from some of the key guys, it's going to be
29:54important and you need that. Yeah. They couldn't be as bad. It can't be as bad as it was last
29:58year. You have a first time OC who I liked in Tanner Angstrom, but he didn't know yet what
30:02he was doing. Justin Fields, he's got a unique skill. So where you got to put the right
30:06things and packages together to get him to do what he does well. And they really didn't do
30:10that. They didn't run much of that stuff last year. So they're going to do a lot of different
30:13things. I'm sure stuff that I mean, we haven't seen, you know, in a few years now, but, uh,
30:18Carrie, I I'm not sure if people out there know this about you, but, uh, you're a fantastic singer,
30:24man. This guy can, this guy's got some frigging pipes, man. This guy can sing. I'm interested
30:29to hear him sing. I told him before. Yes. I want to hear him sing. Yes. Thursday, September 24th,
30:35everyone. Carrie Rose will be singing live at Harrison metals. Carrie came to Harrison
30:39metals for the draft day class. Um, yeah, we're looking forward to hosting you, Carrie. We're
30:43going to be doing something with the New York post sports two Thursdays before that on Thursday,
30:49September 10th, we'll be doing a kickoff party, um, for the second game of the NFL. See, if
30:54you're in town, maybe you want to do like an elongated two weeks stay. Uh, that'd be cool.
30:58But, uh, I get, I get you're a busy guy, but, uh, we'd love to have you there too as
31:01well.
31:01But, uh, yeah, Thursdays, uh, September 24th tunnels to tower. It should be, should be fun.
31:06Yeah. I'm really looking forward to it, Carrie. Uh, and, and I do want to ask you, uh, you know,
31:11we got some really sad and tragic news a couple of days ago about Chris Johnson, someone that you
31:16were in the league with, uh, getting diagnosed at the age of 39, which is crazy for ALS. Uh,
31:23can you tell me like, or just discuss like what that feeling is like seeing someone that you played
31:29with and at such a young age, even at 39, just getting diagnosed with something that is so
31:34horrible and it is a horrible situation for him and his family. Uh, what kind of emotions did you
31:41have when you heard that news? I'm still processing brother. It's, um, it's, it's just, it's sad.
31:49It's strange. It's conflicting. It's maddening. It's all, I think it's so many adjectives I can
31:57throw it away. I mean, you think about Chris and think about his career. He's still the fastest
32:01guy on the planet and now he can't move. It's like, you think of those justifications and it's
32:07just, it's, we, I know people, I know we talk about being grateful and living in a moment and
32:12all those things. And it's all fine. Cause I believe that as well. But when you see something
32:16like this, that it just hits, hits, it just hits hard. I mean, 39 years old, man. And the thing
32:24that
32:25struck me the most with him was just, uh, a couple of months ago, I think he said like eight,
32:29nine months ago, he was picking up his kid, uh, at a birthday party. And now he can't do that.
32:33Like, it doesn't matter if you don't like the person. It doesn't matter if you don't like some
32:40of the things people stand for or whatever. I'm just talking about humans in general. But when you
32:43hear stuff like that, it's, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. And so Chris, man, I'm, I want to send
32:50him
32:50and his family love and especially his wife, his wife is right there beside him and thinking about
32:55that responsibility and that duty moving forward. So you can only wish the best, but it was sad,
33:01man. It hurt me. It hurt me very much. Yeah, man. They say in life, man, you got to take
33:05every day
33:05for what it's worth. You know, nothing's granted. The next day is not granted. And it kind of sucks
33:10to think like that, but it's really is the reality at times. And, uh, no, Carrie, we appreciate you so
33:15much, man. And, um, you've been, you've been such a great person as long as I've known Carrie.
33:21Uh, he was one of the first athletes that even invited Nick and I over one day to just like
33:26hang
33:26out. Like no athlete would have ever done that with me and Nick at that point. Like,
33:30so you've always been so kind, so cool. Looking forward to seeing you in a few months, man.
33:34Seriously, you really are. And other people say that about you as well. Kaz has mentioned it on
33:39Gangs All Here. He's like, that's just a great guy. He's awesome, Carrie. So, um, you know,
33:44your, your vibe and your energy and how you treat people, people notice, and it means a lot to a
33:49lot
33:49of people. So we always appreciate you, man. I appreciate that so much, man. Thank you so much,
33:53man. You guys have a good one. And if you want to hear some good music, be right in the
33:59front row.
34:01You're going to have a seat in the front row. I'm going to be right there. I'm going to be
34:04listening
34:05intently. I'm not going to critique it all. I might bring up the whole Jets playoff thing.
34:10Don't critique. Don't critique.
34:13Ryan's going to have his phone out just recording you the whole time.
34:17Carrie, you're the man. Thank you. As always. We're looking forward to catch you every next time.
34:23Okay. No problem, man. Have a good one guys.
34:26See ya.
