00:16years and now when the same thing repeats for your team you should have known it was coming
00:22hello and welcome to gang's all here my name is ryan sampson the host and producer of the show
00:28that's our jets beat right our brian costello that's my guy frankie vitteridi from you stadium
00:32today is friday november 21st week 12 of the nfl season gentlemen the new york jets are coming
00:37off a loss to thursday night football against the new england patriots and we're here to discuss
00:41the jets are making a change at quarterback they are going with tyrod taylor we will break down
00:45that matchup with tyrod being the starting quarterback against the ravens we'll talk
00:49about frankie's amazing trip to aruba and then we'll discuss how you both had a rough week when
00:55it came to over and unders last week but before we get to any of that i think someone might be an ir
01:01right now cause i gotta go with frankie how you feeling right now bud listen gentlemen everyone out
01:09there i am uh i have currently i have a cracked rib um i have a a a stage two uh ac joint sprain
01:20um or however they describe it yeah no i was in aruba i had a nice little weekend monday morning
01:27rolls around we're all going to the beach and uh i thought um i could handle those those mini scooters
01:33i was trying to whip it around a little bit some lady pulled up short in front of me or i was
01:38approaching her too fast probably is a better way to describe it um i tried to be cool you know but
01:45i'm a big guy those i was wearing flip-flops i really didn't have a base and i just i i hit the
01:52deck hard i hit it real hard um i'm on ir i have a few bruises here but um you know you fight to live
01:59another day you know i was i was trying to try to just go to the beach and have a nice monday morning
02:04and uh maybe i'm lucky i i have i have my teeth in place i'm alive but uh yeah it was a rough one
02:12ryan ryan what's uh what's our budget at gangs all here do you know it's not much it's not much
02:19we'll give you anyone has video of frankie doing the header on the scooter we'll come up with something
02:25we'll come up with some some money for you so frankie like if you have anyone i have so many
02:31questions is your friend filming frankie by a chance yeah your friend you know no it was outside the
02:36hilton so it's the hilton they have those scooter rentals so we were leaving the hilton and going
02:41towards maybe maybe we need to call the hilton and see if there's some security footage were you
02:46and your female friend both take the dive or is that just you that went off the scooter
02:51no it was just me we all took scooters but it was just me yeah yeah and and yeah i did you go to the
02:58hospital at all no i did not i just went back to the room and and laid out for the day and took the
03:04flight on tuesday uh so that was your last that was your last day in aruba yeah yeah
03:11how bad it was a flight with a cracked rim it was awful but i i took a i usually don't take
03:17advils and ibuprofen so i took a bunch i actually was feeling good on the plane and then
03:22cause right after that little nap i woke up i was like i couldn't move i was like i was like
03:29like like an ice block like me trying to get up off the seat i'm like oh somebody's like are you okay
03:35did you get like jumped in aruba i was like no someone thought in the air i can't even laugh
03:41because it hurts my rib cage whatever but um somebody there was an mma convention there so
03:49people thought i was in the mma convention when i got into the airport they're like oh like how'd
03:53you do this week and i'm like what are you what are you talking about like oh we got the convention
03:57i'm like no no no um yeah that was my that was my relaxation trip i mean guys the jets are hurting
04:06frankie physically now it's it's clear and evident now making him take dives off of uh scooters once
04:12he heard once he heard that potentially you know we could be doing another week of justin fields he's
04:17like you know what but now we got tyrod taylor and gentlemen that's where i'll start the episode
04:22after that wild uh trip for frankie um look frankie we talked to cause on month on uh i think it was
04:29monday yeah when they announced that or that came out the report that we're gonna go to tyrod
04:33um so i'll start there you know justin fields did not have a great game at all last week against the
04:41patriots there were a couple drops but there was a lot of plays where you felt like there were missed
04:46opportunities in the passing game aaron glenn clearly sees it on the film and i just wanted
04:52to get i'll start with you frankie your takeaways and the fact that the jets are making the move
04:56to tyrod taylor here this week i mean listen to be completely honest i don't think it's gonna matter
05:05all that much i really don't i think tyrod is is on his last legs literally he's like me out there
05:11at this point you know if i was trying to play quarterback so uh um i just don't see it right
05:16i do like the move i think it's it's aaron glenn giving his team a message that they're trying to
05:21put the best players out there to give them the best chance to win but what is tyrod gonna give us
05:27i mean look at what he did against tampa that game he threw that pick six before the half we should
05:33have won that game if that doesn't happen i don't know i just yeah will it be better yeah but
05:37how much better you're not gonna have that running threat that you will with fields there
05:41so i do like the move don't get me wrong and i think it'll help them run a better passing
05:46offense to a degree but this move is there's no real upside here it's just like a lateral move to
05:52me to be honest well i think cos might argue opposite way just because the jets were averaging
05:57a league worst 139.9 yards passing per game uh you know fields has has thrown for 200 yards only once
06:06in the past five games so it's it's the league's worst right now right guys so i mean it can only
06:13go up from here with tyrod i get i get what frankie's arguing i mean to some degree it is
06:18shuffling the chairs on the titanic at this point but yeah he's i think he can run a competent
06:24offense i don't think he's gonna put up 400 yards a game or anything like that but i think he might get
06:29200 yards of passing like maybe you know and i think he can keep the keep the offense kind of in
06:37rhythm for the most part and moving like it just feels like this offense just hasn't been able to
06:42sustain anything all season and so maybe tyrod can do that i don't know if it's necessarily be this
06:47week against the ravens but maybe against the falcons and dolphins he can do that um the jaguars too
06:53but so he you know um i just i think too with the the idea i do think there's a real thing here of
07:01like you need to figure out what you have in mitchell and matchy and even you know to a lesser degree
07:07it's not that you don't have to make a decision on but mason taylor like let's kind of like can you get
07:11him more involved in the offense and see how big of a weapon he can be and it's just the offense had
07:17nothing to it with with justin fields so um you know and maybe breeze hall gets gets thrown the
07:25ball maybe tyrod tower can throw the ball to a running back and not get him killed on a screen
07:30pass and and that kind of thing so i just think you had to make the move which i think frankie isn't
07:35arguing against the move uh but you had to make it because fields had just been so poor for so long now
07:41uh does it make a huge difference probably not but i do think you can have a professional offense
07:46with tyrod taylor i i agree with you guys i mean look i think if if glenn had his way and tyrod had
07:53actually stayed healthy after the carolina game uh we probably would have saw tyrod start that game
07:59against the bangles after woody johnson had came out and made those comments and i think glenn even knew
08:04that the offense was not going because he benched fields for tyrod in that game pretty much so i mean
08:09it it it all came down to this offense is not doing anything like you said i just i i want to
08:17ask this to both of you is this going to be the last time though that we see justin fields in a jets
08:22uniform no shot right no shot he'll be no shot i've seen this i've seen this movie too many times
08:31where i can remember uh if you guys remember this game in 2012 the jets played the titans on a monday
08:38night and sanchez had a miserable game uh a couple interceptions the last play of the game was a bad
08:46snap from mangled like i think i think it hit uh hit someone in motion and it was a fumble and the
08:52tight was an ugly game the titans won and i remember rich samini looked at me and said that's the last time
08:56we'll ever see mark sanchez and he was benched after that for greg mcelroy and then greg mcelroy
09:05was sacked 12 times and had a concussion and sanchez had to play the next game so we saw sanchez
09:08again then you know i'll go more recent vintage zach wilson you know we'll never say oh we'll never
09:15see zach wilson again uh they got aaron rogers zach wilson's not gonna play oh aaron rogers gets hurt
09:21and here comes zach wilson for a whole season so i and tyrod obviously his track record in the last
09:28however many years is he can't stay on the field so i think we'll see justin fields again before the
09:33season's over right well that's the question there well the quickly the question becomes the only way
09:41that doesn't happen obviously is well two ways one tyrod stays healthy which i'm with cause there
09:47but people think brady cook at some point might come in here so i mean if tyrod stays i i'm with
09:53cause i don't see it people were trying to assume what aaron glenn said last time he spoke suggested
09:59that they'd look at brady cook i don't know where they got that from i mean he suggested we're not
10:03gonna look at brady cook yeah i thought what was the question there but yeah oh just update us on his
10:10progress because we hadn't asked we haven't asked about brady cook since august so it's just kind of an
10:15update on where his development and like when i was like still developing still developing and he
10:18basically said like i won't rule anything out but yeah you know like brady like i get like the backup
10:25quarterback is always the most popular guy on the roster um but like brady cook's an undrafted free
10:32agent uh yeah those guys that quarterback don't usually play as rookies it's i i'm trying to think of
10:40an undrafted free agent quarterback who played as a rookie like they there's there's obviously
10:45instances where they become good quarterbacks at some point but it doesn't usually happen their
10:50rookie year um i i think that's a lot that because i've seen some people say oh well look like uh
10:56you know some of these other teams are playing rookie quarterbacks but they're all draft picks that
11:00they're playing as rookies like even if they're you know day three picks like shadour they're they're
11:06still were drafted yeah there's a reason he wasn't uh i will say did tony romo start his rookie year
11:13no no he didn't okay no he was yeah i don't think he played for like three years like he was he was
11:20uh yeah because i actually was in training camp when roman was a rookie because vinnie was the
11:24quarterback okay and what about warren moon warren moon be a little different because warren
11:30played in canada before he ever played in the nfl uh and then the other one may have but warren
11:35might have played in canada and when one of them played in canada for many years before he played
11:39in the nfl and then i'm just checking kurt warner his rookie year as well no kurt warner was in with
11:43the packers behind farve as a rookie it really went to europe okay yeah and then kurt warner went to
11:49europe and he developed in europe and then he and then he came back and played for the rams but yeah
11:54i was like 1999 was probably his fifth season out of college so that's like what i'm talking about
11:59yeah you can develop i'm not saying brady cook in five years can't be doing something but
12:04very difficult if you were undrafted that means the nfl thinks you weren't ready and it's not the
12:10same as like you know an undrafted defensive end that can play 20 snaps a game you're playing
12:14quarterback it's different so like a name popped up in my head like like tanner mckee popped up in
12:20my head but he was drafted in the sixth round and he played his the next year not even yeah even i
12:25think brock purdy is probably the party is probably the best brock purdy is the best one
12:29but brock purdy also totally had kyle chanahan you know as his coach which which helped and then
12:37a fantastic team around them that begs the question then uh if we are going to see fields again this
12:43year then this potentially his is one and only year like a one and done for justin fields with the jets
12:49uh his tenure here would that happen yeah i think so i think it feels that way now right i i i get it's a
12:57big number to eat next year but they can make a post you want and split it up um i just it's hard
13:03for me to envision him as the guy they want as the backup for whoever they draft and i'm assuming they
13:11draft a quarterback just for a few reasons i don't think he's the veteran guy you want teaching your
13:18quarterback he just hasn't had success in the nfl so what does justin fields know you know what i mean
13:23i'd rather have a guy who's been around a little bit had a little success and um he doesn't strike
13:28me as a great leader uh i've covered a lot of quarterbacks getting benched over 15 years right
13:35you guys can go through the numbers i can't remember ever a guy getting benched and refusing
13:40to speak to reporters the day he was benched and that might be a little thing to people and they
13:44might not care but to me it's a tell that you're you're not really a leader i i like to me you stand
13:50up you answer the questions we're never going to talk to him again after that if he doesn't play
13:54like we're going to leave him alone and but like you got to do it that day even you know zach wilson
13:58for all the slings and arrows he took he did it when he got benched so that kind of stood out to me
14:03and then the other thing is just his play style i don't know if he's conducive to being a backup
14:08quarterback right like because you're probably not going to have a starter who plays like him
14:12and now like do you have to change the whole offense if he has to come in i think you'd rather just have
14:17a guy who's more of a traditional drop back quarterback as your your backup it makes sense
14:24guys uh and it's it's something interesting you point out that the fact that he hasn't spoken to
14:28the media after getting benched uh i will say this though and we're recording this friday morning he
14:33might talk today he might talk today we have locker room today yeah but like even like you said
14:36though i was kind of surprised he didn't talk he was in the locker room wednesday and just didn't
14:40want to talk to us yeah i mean well and then people might say oh well you know leave him alone
14:46when he got benched but it's part of the job it's part of the gig you know and you're getting a lot
14:52of money and it's we're holding tape recorders not guns so it's it's not that hard no i agree with
14:57you because but it's also been brewing it's been brewing him to get a bench because how bad he's been
15:01this year um and and ultimately this is something we have to play monday morning quarterback a little
15:07bit with like it's the move that the jets made in the offseason to go for justin fields as their
15:13starting quarterback giving him 40 million dollars uh i mean how much critique does glenn and muji
15:19deserve for choosing this as their starting quarterback option in year one frank you want
15:26to take that one yeah i mean listen it was a bad move was it catastrophically bad was is it a make or
15:36break move it's the worst passing offense in the nfl yeah but ryan what was the upside with anybody
15:42else really i mean better than the worst quarterback performance in the nfl like am i crazy right now
15:48like this is this is what i'm saying guys like they chose justin fields a guy who had led some of the
15:54worst passing offenses the last couple years and now when the same thing repeats for your team
16:01you should have known it was coming and for you to choose this as your option it's negligent and
16:07frankly you deserve a lot of criticism for thinking you could fix the problem so i have serious doubt
16:14in this leadership group to pick the right quarterback because they thought justin fields was the right
16:19option this year he clearly was not the right quarterback option you saw it in training camp
16:23and it just it's i don't care man like you were negligent this year and chose to go with that
16:30yeah you know what you're you're right to a degree i i think i think i i i can meet you a little bit
16:37more on your side i knew this guy stunk from day one we spoke about it on this show he was never
16:43somebody that they were going to put together an offense with those you know weapons and that
16:47amateur staff on offense it never made sense my whole point back to you is my issue with what they
16:53did with the quarterback was not bringing a young kid behind him that could soak up what tanner
16:59angstrand was putting together and then maybe we're having a real conversation about putting
17:03a rookie in not a udfa that has no right to be playing in their rookie year good point that's the
17:09only that's the only place i'm coming from rye but you're right it it was a it was a bad move the
17:15money makes it look even worse i didn't see any reason and may cause maybe you could touch on this but
17:20was the market for fields really that i know fields came here he was told he was going to start
17:26he he was he had the confidence in in in glenn and glenn had the confidence in him
17:30but 30 million guaranteed 40 million he seems like a a two-year 15 million dollar quarterback
17:37kind of thing right i don't know yeah that's where my issue is is the money uh because i i actually guys
17:44like to i always try to be uh don't like to reverse myself i i wrote last december that fields was
17:52the best option for them like when when it was bacon rogers wasn't coming because i was sort of
17:58looking at okay who is the next sam dartle baker mayfield type of guy that reclamation project
18:03because i didn't see any veteran options that were really appealing uh i didn't think they were
18:08going to draft a quarterback so you know uh i wrote that at the time so i can't now say oh it was a
18:15terrible decision i think where the terrible decision was was giving him 30 million dollars so i don't
18:20frankie the only team i know was interested was the steelers right they wanted to bring him back but
18:24they weren't going to bring him back for that money and it feels like the jets sort of like gave
18:29him that money promised him the job all this stuff to try to get him here which is that part of it's
18:34weird to me like i i think it was like take a chance on this guy like the buccaneers took a chance on
18:40baker mayfield but they didn't give him 30 million dollars right like and i remember the buccaneers
18:45were here uh when baker first for his first year and he was competing with kyle trask for the
18:51starting job you know sam darnell wasn't handed the starting job in minnesota it was supposed to
18:55be jj mccarthy and then he got her and sam stepped in so i think that's i think two mistakes were made
19:00i think the money was way too much and guaranteeing them the job was the other part that was the mistake
19:04they probably whether it was a draft pick or whether it was another veteran they probably should
19:09have had somebody competing for the job last summer they probably should have a little quarterback
19:13competition it was always weird to me that aaron glenn like preached like you got to earn your keep
19:18right like he's used that phrase you have to earn your keep and he's but like justin fields was handed
19:24the job uh it never really made much sense to me but i think it was negotiations i think they they
19:29promised him the job so he would come uh but yeah it's in no doubt now with the results ryan like it
19:34was uh it was obviously it was the wrong move um yeah you know i mean look you can argue with it now i know
19:41and and you have told me ryan sam donald was never coming here daniel jones was never coming here
19:45understood jacoby brissette jamis winston mac jones uh hell i take josh dobbs at this point i mean
19:53mason rudolph drew lock i would have taken any of those quarterback options over this current thing
19:59that you saw from justin fields because you what you did now is you burnt another year of garrett
20:04wilson in his prime and it sucks that he's gotten hurt and this has been a lost year for him but you
20:09burnt another year of just of garrett wilson you burnt a year of breeze hall in his prime
20:13and then not to mention the fact you took a rookie tight end in mason taylor how is he supposed to
20:18develop in this offense like you're gonna tell me tyrod taylor's gonna help him along the way the rest
20:23of the season and really find his true potential like it's just it's negligent cause and that's where
20:28i find that these bag organizations stay bad because it's tough right i think negligent is tough
20:35like all right like i do i do get their thinking he was a first round pick we all watched what he
20:41did at ohio state he had a really like there was all this like if you looked at his last 16 starts
20:47before he came here right the six in pittsburgh and the end of 2020 in chicago he had shown promise
20:53he had improved i get their thinking so i negligent is tough it was the wrong decision it didn't work
21:00it was the wrong decision but i also don't i don't know if everyone was screaming in march that
21:05it was the wrong decision i think i think you're seeing the results and now everyone's screaming but
21:10you know it's not like people are going oh go get mac jones like that's the answer like they
21:16know like i i and the daniel jones thing he couldn't have come here it wouldn't have worked in
21:22new york sam darl couldn't have come here wouldn't have worked in new york like it was just too much
21:26baggage with those guys here they needed they needed somewhere where they didn't have the
21:29baggage of their their where they were drafted so but like yeah it's it's you know and i i find it
21:37hard now to argue oh they should have signed jacoby bursette like justin fields had more potential
21:42than that it didn't work how just jacoby bursette because he's a first round pick right that means
21:48nothing he had the worst passing offense in chicago in 2022 i mean you've seen it before i know but
21:54he played pretty well in 2023 at the end and he played he played decently for pittsburgh last year
22:01right they were what they four and two and so i get what they saw they paid way too much for him
22:09and they should have had competition for him in here they shouldn't have just handed him the job
22:12but i i do understand what they were thinking in march i think what they wanted to do ryan i think
22:18hindsight's a little bit 2020 here with with bursette i hear you though you can run a more
22:23traditional offense with jacoby he's been balling by the way mac jones has been balling there's jeff
22:29fans right now talking about trading a a fourth round pick for mac jones to start next year come
22:36with him so ryan you're right but to a degree but what i think they wanted to do with justin which
22:44i didn't buy but there was a world where it could have worked is that read option that scrambling
22:49attack that that that you get with fields at the helm we never got there the concussion kicked in
22:57the leg injury fields was supposed to run wild this year i mean that there was a world excuse me
23:02where that was supposed to be the case not 800 rushing yards a glenn even admitted it i mean glenn
23:07admitted it this week guys did he not he goes i don't think we should we we didn't want to run
23:11him as much as that's a mistake you're gonna have field to the quarterback guys this is what i'm
23:16saying like they clearly yeah that part is crazy like they should yeah so this part is crazy if
23:21you're saying you wanted to run a traditional offense because you don't want to run them as
23:25much no you're right then you really chose the wrong quarterback to try to do that with this year
23:31and that's my point and then like you said at the beginning of this whole thing frankie with these
23:35weapons you weren't going to have success everyone saw it like i tried to put blinders on you try to
23:42put blinders on i think cause was trying to be positive somewhat like let's see what happens but
23:46the at the end of the day we all saw back in training camp and back in the offseason when we're
23:51assembling this thing it was a terrible decision it was a terrible decision to go with justin fields
23:57and and i i feel like i'm taking crazy pills because now i have to trust these guys to pick the next
24:03quarterback and what i'm worried about and this is what i'm truly worried about with all the assets
24:07they have in first round pick capital second round pick and the free agent money uh cap space
24:14we've seen them spend like mad men for a terrible quarterback position what are you going to do in
24:20the future here that's going to give me trust that you guys are going to pick the right one now going
24:23forward that's where i have serious doubt that's where i think we can truly criticize these guys and say
24:29until you prove me wrong you deserve a lot of criticism for what you how you've handled this
24:34position thus far yeah and something else i just said there's not a lot of teams where you say oh
24:42they they've nailed it time after time after time after time it's almost like you gotta get it right
24:47once like if you get it right once you're good like right like look at like bill belichick did a
24:53great job in new england right managing that roster for how 15 years or whatever then all of a sudden
24:59the decisions he he was he made some horrible draft decisions and horrible personnel decisions and
25:05so like he's he's the example of taking the most the best quarterback ever um and then maybe mac jones
25:12ends up being better picked than it looked at the time but back mac jones hasn't looked like a great
25:16pick uh i don't so i i don't think there's i mean jimmy garoppolo was a good pick jimmy garoppolo
25:21was a good pick for him it was an okay pick i mean you know he wasn't yeah they they just he there
25:27there isn't guys with track records i'm saying of like drafting quarterback after quarterback after
25:32quarterback there's you can go like bill walsh or somebody like that i think it's i think there's a
25:38lot of of times you just gotta get right once and so yeah i don't i understand there's no reason to
25:44believe these guys will get it right but i also don't think you go ah they screwed up justin fields
25:48they're definitely gonna get it wrong um you know they get the number one pick that's a different
25:53animal you know and you gotta get that right yeah i just i'm as you can tell guys i'm frustrated
25:59that we i think you tried to warn me enough guys like like ryan let it play out and and i try to
26:06let it play out every year but like the more and more i look at this now and like i said the hindsight
26:11is 2020 but the more and more i look at it we were out of our freaking minds or i was and frankie was to
26:17even think that this could happen and be a positive offensive uh game plan and again go ahead
26:23the running thing is the key part what you said yeah because i i think back to this day the jets
26:30had a practice at the giants right probably the worst day of training camp for justin fields he
26:36looked awful that day he couldn't hit the side of a barn that day and i remember talking to people
26:41and they're just like well there's people we're not people from the jets there are people at the
26:45practice but they're like he's a running quarterback and they're like it's the middle of august you don't
26:51run so like your quarterback doesn't run so though you're not seeing what he can do like when he runs
26:56the ball you know you'll you'll see it and like there were some practices where they did some running
27:01stuff and it worked and think about pittsburgh guys like to me the pittsburgh game was was that was
27:07the offense right and i was like we all walked away from that going hey that was pretty damn good
27:11like you know xavier gibson doesn't fumble the ball in the fourth quarter they win that game
27:15and that was pretty good like everyone was high on justin fields after that game
27:20did the concussion change i mean he was terrible against buffalo before the concussion so i don't
27:25want to just totally give it the concussion did the concussion change things did the knee change
27:30things did they just not want to do this like not want to make him a running back like aaron glenn
27:34said after the game the other night like i don't know that's i wrote my newsletter this week
27:38like the biggest head scratchers basically of the season and that's one of them is like
27:42why didn't they run justin fields more i i can't understand it two quick things guys just to kind
27:50of wrap up what you guys were saying ryan i think the tanner angstrom point not to go back to you know
27:55my favorite person at one just drive but um i think his style of offense and what he knew from jared
28:02goff and detroit and ben johnson it never made sense to me why would you want justin fields to be the
28:07guy at the helm they didn't run any of that stuff that you'd want to run with fields in detroit and
28:13that was really all the guy knew he's so you know inexperienced he's looking worse this year because
28:18he's had fields at the helm this isn't a good year for uh for tanner angstrom's resume necessarily if
28:24you go by the numbers objectively we see things that we like but objectively it's not there the other
28:29thing is i don't know if the jets really understood what the assignment was this year overall what i mean by
28:37that is i don't know if they you know wanted fields to be the starter for the for for this year and the
28:43next year i don't know if they were you know because they didn't even draft anybody you know
28:49they didn't draft a quarterback so i think like they kind of thought that fields and then and and to
28:56what you're saying you're right that's alarming to me if they thought that this kid was going to be
29:01here for the next two years um because i don't know like they're they were expecting i don't think
29:07they thought i don't think they thought it was a sure thing i remember at the time i i talked to
29:11somebody who said like they felt like the second year was a good idea in case he hits this year and
29:17then you don't have to negotiate with like a big contract next year they'd have him under contract
29:21that was sort of the thinking of the second year was like hey if we hit on this guy we got him for
29:27another year and we don't have to do like a big contract to keep him so and like the the the math
29:34has changed on guys you cut like you used to not cut a guy that would be a 22 million dollar cap hit
29:39but that's sort of changed in the last few years so you know but they it looks really bad for them
29:44if they have 57 million dollars with Aaron Rodgers 35 yep it looks absolutely horrific which is why
29:50even more so guys when you say oh well in case he hits for the second year it's like
29:54okay but you're still looking at a 35 million dollar get dead cap hit for 2026 for the jets
29:59you have to account that for whatever you do for your quarterback position and let's not forget if
30:03they do draft a quarterback in the first round that's more money that's going to be equated for
30:06i know it's not as high of a hit but that's a lot of resources all for dead you know in terms of dead
30:11cap money on the quarterback position next year oh yeah yeah and i think frankie to your point of like
30:17i thought you were when you said that they don't understand the under they didn't understand the
30:20assignment i think that applies bigger picture than this whole thing i think they thought they
30:24were gonna had a better team than they had like i totally i just totally think they came in and
30:29overestimated this roster and i think they thought they could they could actually like win this year
30:36like i don't think they thought they were gonna go to the super bowl but i don't think they i think
30:41you have their truth serum they they don't they couldn't believe that they're two and eight right now
30:46you know and and it is bad and so i think that sort of messed things up too is like what was this
30:52year gonna be was this year gonna be about like kind of resetting the team and resetting the roster
30:56like do you pay garrett wilson and sauce gardner in july if that's the case um you know and it's become
31:03that now with trading sauce and quinnon uh but i i think i think they were trying to do both things
31:11this year of like win and the the competitive rebuild is what mike mccagdon used to call it
31:17you know and it's turned into a full rebuild the competitive rebuild it's turned into a full
31:21rebuild like frankie had told us on the offseason unfortunately um wow okay sorry i went off there
31:27a little bit but just this quarterback position just really is it's it's so frustrating with this
31:32franchise wait right you thought justin field was going to be good though didn't you you had them
31:36winning how many games i bought into the aaron glenn tanner angstrand darren muji i bought into
31:44it i was fully into it that's what i do as a fan is i fantasize about how great these things can be
31:49you look in the hope and you have the hope and you and you try to be positive about what's going
31:54to happen but it slaps you in the face every single week and and and the more and more i look
31:58at i'm like well i was an idiot and i'm an idiot for believing in these idiots for thinking that they
32:02can fix it because clearly they didn't they don't know how to fix it and they didn't um and it
32:06was a bad decision it was a really really bad decision um all right let's turn over to gang
32:10sounds off i want to tee up our defensive coordinator steve wilks on the jets defense not
32:16be able to create any turnovers get your guys reaction here is steve wilks on the jets defense
32:21the no interceptions in 10 games how much of that is just bad luck not being able to get a tip here and
32:32there and how much of it is just due to maybe guys that be in the right place at the right time
32:37well i i definitely don't want to say that the guys aren't in position um and and i don't believe
32:45in luck so we we got to create our own own luck if you want to say that um and something that we
32:53emphasize and talk about and teach each and every day but when we get in the course of a game we have
32:58to have great intent uh for is really trying to get the ball out you see it all the time
33:04uh we show those things i show those things each and every week across the league where guys are you
33:09know getting the ball punched out yeah we got to do a great job getting our hands up uh i think the
33:14guy from philly this past we got three tips and you know so there's opportunities there but again
33:20we have to be intentional about those each and every time that we're out there guys they have
33:26a negative 11 turnover ratio they have zero interceptions one forced fumble um this that's
33:35that's that's ridiculous by the way you're just saying that that's just that's mind-boggling sorry
33:40so i mean look it i think causes as brilliantly pointed it out all year like it shouldn't be that
33:46hard to have an interception it happens every week just hail marys they're turning to interceptions
33:51the end of a half or a game but the jets have somehow found themselves now on week 12 with
33:55zero interceptions only one turnover the entire season i don't know like it seems like it's been
34:01a repeated issue for this team too when it comes to turning uh creating turnovers um i don't know if
34:07it's a personnel thing i don't know if it's a mentality thing is it something that the coaching staff
34:11has not highlighted enough on these guys i'm sure they have but cause i'll start with you like
34:16how the heck does this team continue to not be able to turn the ball over on the defensive side of the
34:21ball yeah it's it's a mystery right like there's no way the coaches aren't emphasizing it i mean i've
34:27seen them emphasize it uh you know going back to training camp and it's not that i i just it's just
34:34i do believe in luck when it comes to turnovers like we've seen it enough times like i know i get
34:40with steve wilks he can't coach can't say luck i guess but you've seen it where the ball is on the
34:44ground and it just doesn't bounce the way for the jets like that actually happened more earlier in
34:49the season hasn't happened lately um there's been no tips there's been no overthrows that you know
34:55or if they have they just haven't been in the right spot there's been you know brandon stevens
35:00kind of tripped on that one in game one against the steelers where he could have had one
35:05um jarvis brownlee get hit in the face with the ball yeah it's just incredible um you know i started
35:13looking up the records now because they were we're at that point and the fewest takeaways in a season
35:19is seven so i think you're on track for that uh the fewest interceptions in a season is three which
35:26is by interestingly enough was solid 49ers in 2018 i think so you know can they get three
35:33interceptions here and avoid that record uh maybe but i i just you know even i did a pregame show in
35:40new england with the patriots website right and so i brought this up because like you know the other
35:47team doesn't always know like i'm like they have zero interceptions they're like oh well drake may
35:51you know he throws it up there you can get one and there was that one pass near the goal line that
35:57maybe they had a chance but i don't have an explanation for it ryan like i i there's i think
36:03it has to just be the perfect storm of all these different things because the one of them cannot be
36:08the explanation scheme execution luck it's been all of it but it's been it's incredible and the thing
36:16to me is this offense we've talked just spent so much time talking about justin fields the offense
36:20this offense desperately needs the ball at the 25 yard line a couple times they desperately need
36:26a pick six to help them win a game and it just hasn't happened at all uh i actually been meaning
36:33to do this of looking at their touchdown drives this season and how long they've all been because
36:38they feel like they're 12 play drives every time yeah they never flip the field against the opposing
36:43team yeah they never get that script part of the game and and it feels like the jets are always
36:47playing deep in their own zone offensively because of just they they don't cause any turnovers frankie
36:53how much criticism does this defensive staff or this defensive personnel where would you place more
37:00of the the blame here for why this team cannot cause turnovers well you know i did something the
37:07other day i looked up who's leading the league in interceptions and a familiar name came up because he
37:14used to do this all the time in tennessee he's doing it in chicago kevin byard kevin byard safeties
37:20lead in the league with five interceptions he's led the league before an interception i remember his
37:25second year in the league at eight interceptions ryan it's a personnel thing to me more than it is a
37:30coaching thing now i agree with kaz only having one turnover across 10 games is literally luck but
37:39not having an interception at this point guys um you got to look at some of those d backs and question
37:47what kind of football iq do these guys have are they they're always one step behind are they able
37:52to bait a quarterback into throwing a pick i mean that stuff happens i get the tip ball stuff we've said
37:58such a low bar for turnovers that we're just looking at those situations just someone punching it out and
38:05and just falling in our lap or a tip ball but there's interceptions where guys bait quarterbacks
38:11there's interceptions where guys like peanut tillman his whole career just knows how to punch it out i
38:16mean like tyron matthew we've seen he just always finds his way to the ball ed reads i mean i'm not
38:21saying we got those guys but you got to get some guys in there that can do that stuff we don't have
38:26anyone we're hoping for this these lucky instances for turnovers but right i think i didn't cause i think
38:33it's a personnel issue man um you look at uh the uh i didn't do this the other day i probably did
38:38this like a few months ago but i'm looking at the uh because i figured we'd have this conversation
38:42um because we spoke about this week two or three like how long we're gonna go without a turnover
38:46um if you look at like the leaders in in in interceptions and nfl history and fumble recoveries
38:53like there's a lot of familiar names up there guys that we all know and are like hall of famers
38:58it's not like a lucky list of players so the personnel's got to change they need to in the
39:04offseason bring in a d-back i wanted justin simmons a few years ago they need to bring in somebody that
39:10can sniff it out seriously that knows what's going on that can they can you know mass coverages and
39:17they're doing it not the coaching staff yeah it's an aggressive towards the ball too and they can make
39:22those plays of course um yeah it's it's brandon eckles brandon eckles frankie brandon eckles he was
39:29the only one we had exceptions yeah he was awesome i mean their sacks aren't no we don't want them but
39:36also like their sacks don't turn into forced fumbles like they haven't turned into many for
39:39them like that's another thing where yeah yeah you look at like can you create more fumbles when
39:44you're sacking the quarterback attack the ball with the quarterback in the pocket so it's it's
39:48it's very frustrating uh and and it raises more and more i understand the personnel side i still
39:55think we have to to raise the red flags on steve wilkes in this defense uh i think they i thought
40:02it was very easy for the patriots to move the ball against this jet defense again last week i know the
40:07secondary was really banged up but it just felt like the jets didn't have really any like solved for
40:15drake may or this or the patriots offense and it just we'll see how it goes this week against the
40:20ravens the ravens have struggled a little bit on offense especially with lamar in and out of the
40:24lineup um and derrick derrick henry has not gotten it going really this season so i'll it's i'm
40:30interested to see how that plays out and that'll turn us into the key matchups this week for the
40:34week 12 matchup between the jets and the ravens i'll start with kaz what is your key matchup for jets
40:38versus ravens yeah i think you just hit it derrick henry is interesting to me right can the jets
40:43slow him down as bad as the defensive performance was in new england and i get that they gave up the
40:48rushing touchdowns they didn't give up a lot of rushing yards to new england i think it was like
40:5265 something like that they averaged like two points something to carry so i thought the rushing
40:57defense actually played pretty well outside of the red zone when they gave up the touchdowns which
41:02obviously is a big other than but um so i'm curious can they slow derrick henry down obviously the
41:09ravens offense is not clicking on all cylinders as lamar works his way back he's dealing with
41:14injuries so ken you know i have a feeling the ravens are going to really try to get the running
41:18game going and uh can the jets slow that down and it's an interesting now d-line without quinnon
41:24i think they're adjusting um so that that's that one to me is the matchup to watch frankie
41:31all right i got a nice matchup for everybody so one of my favorite receivers in the league
41:38not on the jets is um zay flowers i'm a big zay flowers fan uh zay flowers likes to go across the
41:45middle he likes those crossing routes ryan the ones that give us nightmares out there as jeff fans
41:49um brandon stevens he's ranked the 12th best corner on pff having a really good year actually
41:55actually that contract looks okay at this point looks pretty good actually um how does brandon
42:01stevens line up against zay flowers a flowers was able to get it done with lamar out of the lineup
42:05lamar is back seems to be semi-healthy um let's see what brandon stevens can do against a flowers
42:12you know steve wilkes is going to dial up those man coverages so that's my key matchup of the day
42:17uh zay could have a big day but if brandon's playing as well as we think he is and what the next
42:22stats are saying he is um maybe maybe he can neutralize zay flowers we'll see i think this is
42:28a big test though for brandon stevens it's a tough matchup zay flowers very athletic gets in and out of
42:34his cuts extremely he's extremely explosive so that's uh what you got brandon it'll be interesting
42:39to see how lamar can get that going too with with zay um yeah you know i for me it was going to be
42:44this jets passing attack versus the ravens uh secondary which is giving up the the ninth most uh passing
42:50yards per game in the nfl right now but honestly i think i have to go back to what we talked about
42:54with creating turnovers it's the pass rush against lamar and keeping contain on him because like i
42:59said while derrick henry is going to try they're going to try to establish the run lamar with his
43:03legs and he's dealing with an ankle injury he had a hamstring i think let the week prior so like it's
43:08been different knee injury also he's been battling a lot of leg injuries but he still is an explosive uh
43:13playmaker so i wonder if the jets are going to be able to keep contain on lamar uh because that is going
43:18to be on jermaine johnson and will mcdonald both guys who are very athletic you know it's funny
43:23jermaine was saying he cut out sugars this week and last week this season to try and lose an extra
43:28couple pounds and feel faster on the field he's going to need it against a guy like lamar who he
43:33actually got his first career sack against uh in the nfl was against lamar jackson nice little
43:38stack there and that brings us to trivia fellas i got stump cause here uh so i think i got a good
43:44one here but let's see if he remembers this oh boy here we go some freaking ravens anecdote from
43:50well maybe that long ago the ravens not that long do you know the all-time record this is not the
43:57stump cause question for everyone do you know the all-time well come on wait we're getting bonus
44:01questions yeah bonus questions do you know the all-time record for jets versus ravens

44:51look at him go matt forte 100 rushing yards one touchdown four catches for 54 yards and a receiving
45:00touchdown for matt forte can breese hall have a good little run in 2016 he has a good little run
45:07people forget because he did the season was so bad but he was he actually had a good run there
45:11extra bonus points if you know who the ravens quarterback was that game

45:28funny like again i the jets quarterback that day is the good one that's why i tied it in there
45:33guys it was geno smith to start geno's last start then i went to fits and won the game yeah
45:37all right guys that was geno's last start wow that was his last start with the jets and that's when
45:43fits after the game gave one of the all-time post-game press conferences where he basically
45:48slammed todd bowles you know for doubting him and all that stuff and then and then todd was asked
45:55about it like the next day and todd goes if if fits isn't gonna throw interceptions and throw
46:01touchdowns he can be mad at me all he wants todd was the best wasn't he yeah that was a guy was a guy
46:12the jets shouldn't let go to be honest with you see how much success he's having in tampa bay too
46:18all right fellas over unders and some picks cause you went two and four last week
46:25but but frankie went one in five again oh my lord now let me just say this um before we get to the
46:35the picks as well breeze hall's rushing total was 58 and a half last week i was about to ask you

50:25i think honestly guys i think the jets play a hard football game i don't think the baltimore
50:32ravens something isn't right with them this year i don't really know what it is
50:36um just doesn't smell right what's going on in baltimore
50:40lamar's been hurt um they don't really have another weapon outside of zay flowers he has over 700
50:46receiving yards nobody else is over 300 there they're not using their tight ends like they usually
50:51do third highest pressure rate um getting get into the quarterback allowed in the nfl
50:58um i think the jets keep it close i think though and then to make it a little bit dramatic i think
51:05it's going to come down to the last drive of the game i think we're going to be down three points
51:10tyra is going to get come back there he's going to get the troopers in there he's going to be ready
51:16to go everyone's out there we're going to score and win the game oh that's what all the jeff fans

51:26going to beat us it's going to be a last drive attempt on our end to win the game i'm just being a
51:32little dramatic with the pick but i i don't i don't think it's going to be enough uh i have the
51:36ravens beating us 24 21 but the jets put up a good fight similar to most cover what they did
51:42against new england it's a cover yep i thought i think i think the game will be tight cause
51:48i don't think it's gonna be that tight but i do think i think the first half you know i need the
51:56jets to keep it close i think this could be ryan i think this could be like frankie on the scooter
52:00the beach the wind in his hair riding the sun beating down his face in aruba thinking about
52:07what he's gonna do right so the jets will be cruising along whoa easy maybe 14 maybe 14 14 at
52:15halftime rye maybe a tie game at halftime a little surprise okay so they're just they're there they're
52:21looking at the sky thinking about they're gonna get something to drink maybe lay on the beach
52:27and then all of a sudden boom
52:29the ravens are gonna get them and they're gonna explode in the second half
52:36and like frankie laying on the ground holding his broken rib the jets are gonna lose 35 to 17 ryan
52:44ravens 35 jets 17 oh my god that's an amazing pick
52:48oh man i don't know how i follow that up um look i i think i'll say this to frankie what he was saying
52:58before so you're saying something's not right with the ravens i need you to go back and look at their
53:04schedule to start the year they lost to buffalo they beat the browns and then look at this gauntlet
53:10they face they lost to the lions they lost to the chiefs they lost to the texans and they lost to the
53:16rams all them playoff teams and arguably you can argue super bowl contending team then they just
53:22rattled off four straight wins against the bears the dolphins the vikings and the browns they're
53:28gonna beat up on the jets as well it's gonna be similar to that thursday night game against the
53:32dolphins i got the ravens over the jets they're gonna run all over us it's gonna be 28 to 10 over
53:39the new york jets that's a gang's all here show guys that's a week 12 matchup uh frankie's gonna go
