After much public to and from, the Port of Spain City Corporation is finally in receipt of funds for civil servants' salaries. The Port of Spain Mayor confirmed receipt of funds, as at 3 p.m. today. However the news is bittersweet.
Transcript
00:00I can confirm that at just about 3 p.m. this afternoon, the city collected a check for June salaries
00:10from the Ministry of Local Government.
00:12I've asked the chief executive officer and the city treasurer to immediately begin processing salary payments for our civil servants.
00:22And so we expect that all of our civil servants should receive their June salaries in the not-too-distant
00:30future.
00:31We still do not have any allocation for salaries for July, August or September 2026.
00:38So we will continue to engage with the Ministry of Local Government to rectify that particular issue.
00:44And we also have not as yet received the allocation required for us to pay the increased wage rate for
00:52our daily-rated workers
00:54or to pay our back pay to our daily-rated workers, so that we will also be engaging with the
01:00Ministry of Local Government
01:01to bring that part of the fiscal fiasco to an end.
