00:00Speaking on the morning edition, Mayor Chinua Allen says the corporation raised concerns over its inability to meet payroll on
00:09June 25th.
00:10And while he understands a warrant was issued the following day, no check has yet been issued.
00:16He holds the view that the minister is relying on most people not fully understanding how the public funding process
00:23works.
00:24The general warrant is only maybe the second step of a six or seven step process.
00:31The my understanding as of this morning is that the transfer funds has not yet been completed so that the
00:38corporation, the Portis Queen Corporation, has not yet received any allocation to make payroll.
00:44Our hope is that all of the relevant public officers will be mobilized in order to complete this task to
00:54date.
00:54The Portis Queen Mayor warns that unless the issue is resolved on a long term basis, the corporation could face
01:02the same uncertainty month after month and possible shutdown.
01:06He says the financial strain is beginning to threaten essential operations and he's hoping for a swift resolution.
01:14My efforts here are to prevent that from happening.
01:19I live in town. I have no interest in the corporation stopping work because I will also be affected.
01:26And this is local government. And so we really want to see work continue.
01:33We want our members of staff to be treated with respect and with dignity.
01:38We do not think that we or our members of staff or anybody should have to suffer in silence.
