00:03we can make some room on the phones we are flooded with response on the texts
00:07would you boo dylan larkin if he's really here to start the season
00:12first response i don't want larkin here but i wouldn't boo him
00:18another says i wouldn't be booing larkin it would be booing stevie why so let me give you
00:25another scenario okay and okay they can spin it however they want and eizerman might say hey well
00:32this was the plan all along we were going to add in a trade or we're going to add in
00:36free agency but
00:37if they do add somebody of significance and larkin is back is there a chance he gets a standing ovation
00:47because he stood up to steve eizerman and forced his hand like that's the way it's going to play
00:51from the larkin camp is that he forced steve eizerman's hand he forced him to actually do
00:55something so we shouldn't we we just want this team to win if they're better going into the season
01:02now by the end of the year when they get to march oh boy just like it was last year
01:07when they had
01:07a justin falk at the deadline it's going to be about what the players do on the ice but to
01:12start
01:13the season hey no one larkin stood up to the captain look at the cojones on that guy oh bob
01:18and rochester says something similar he says i would not boo larkin for all that's happened at
01:23least he lit a spark in the organization maybe it wakes somebody up the way things were going they
01:27were spinning their wheels and not accomplishing anything maybe this will wake someone up to
01:31actually do something well if it lights a spark we haven't seen the spark yet i'm not a part of
01:37the
01:37eiser bots dylan's in the right if he's back i'll be happy from an unnamed texter absolutely will be
01:44booing larkin whether he's wearing the winged wheel or not a captain without any leadership
01:48qualities great player will thrive on a team where he isn't the leader giving up on your eight-year
01:53contract with five years left after laying an egg since the return of the olympic break
01:58makes you look like a sackless chump chris and royal oak
02:07if i'm eiserman i tell larkin i if i land rowinski or robertson will you change your mind and i
02:11need
02:11you to talk to those guys and explain the situation
02:16basically go recruit these guys here right uh it's heiserman's fault larkin's playing him like
02:21a fiddle he's calling eiserman's bluff putting the spotlight on him to make a move that truly
02:25helps the team bryce in a car you can't really boo eiserman though i mean you can't you can do
02:31chance
02:31but there's not like a moment right it's conducive to that yeah i mean it's like hey when jamai goes
02:39in are you booing jamai or you booing aj for putting him in like that we talked about at that
02:46time like why jamai jones addressed it after the after the game's first time he's ever been booed
02:51like that by home fans but it was that the opportunity to boo aj and scott harris for him
02:59even being there and aj for putting him in that position again this would be the same thing like
03:04when's that opportunity going to come up for you to be able to actually express to steve eiserman or
03:09express to you know chris hillich that like what are we doing right i absolutely would boo larkin he
03:15was never the leader or the captain he was just given the seat because the team was bad and he
03:20was
03:20their youngest player another says yes i'd boo him he better not even think about skating out there
03:24with the sea on his chest you publicly gave up on the franchise that gave you an eight-year contract
03:30you are the problem now well again who gave up on who and i'm not going to sit there and
03:36say
03:36eiserman gave up on him he just didn't do enough to support him or to support this roster or to
03:43support
03:43this team i absolutely would boo larkin another says um if he goes out there and plays his guts out
03:51i would
03:52cheer for him otherwise i'd be tempted to boo him it'll all be dependent on his effort i i have
03:58no question and no doubt that if he is wearing the winged wheel he's going to go out there and
04:05give
04:06the same effort he did in the first 11 years of his career i won't boo him if after all
04:12the drama
04:12he still suits up puts in the effort that to me is a sign of maturity wanting to be out
04:16and still
04:17putting in the reps that isn't worthy of booze in my opinion ryan at work
04:25again i think if if something is done this offseason to where he's back and the team is
04:33better than they were last year going into the season i think there's sure you're always going to
04:39have old curmudgeons that that are looking at it going you you know all the things that we've
04:46talked about the text messages you signed the contract stand you know and like honor that
04:52contract what does your signature mean what does your handshake mean well that handshake goes both
04:57ways this guy says he wants to start an fu larkin chant at the games and another says boo him
05:05and his
05:05children uh never boo larkin he's putting out this dumpster fire for good he's like a champion in some
05:13people's eyes and he's persona non grata and public enemy number one to others like this is exactly
05:18what this divide is designed to do well you got the boo kids chant well that was obviously uh directed
05:23at
05:23the staff staffords this is getting very staffordish in this situation although it didn't play out
05:28publicly ugly in terms of the separation but in terms of a being a divisive athlete this is a
05:35split ticket right now it is there are people in his camp and i think most people would have been
05:42in larkin's camp if he didn't publicly demand it you know what i'm saying like he kind of put it
05:48on
05:48him a little bit and the whole yeah we just made an eight-year commitment and you're bailing after
05:52three years detroiters have a problem with that i know the city i've lived here my whole life sure
05:57well detroiters are sensitive to loyalty more than other markets you're turning your back on us
06:04we'll turn our back on you the difference is stafford never had to play a game here
06:09after that got out because it was all behind the scenes that he wanted out of detroit
06:19well it was publicly known that they were going to trade him like he had asked for the trade
06:25i think there was a brief window there where that was the case yes you're right it was brief
06:32and he never had to play was my point he never had to play right yes but then to come
06:36back
06:37yeah i mean that that so we need to get dylan to cabo is what you're saying this was the
06:41argument
06:42though that it would have been done uh iserman justice if he had moved from larkin a couple
06:47years ago before he had to extend him you know i felt that way well that's why all roads lead
06:54back
06:54to steve like if you think larkin's some chump loser then don't pay him and trade him and submerge
06:59yourself deeper and do the proper rebuild that always needed to happen like or you paid him because
07:04he's the number one center on this team and would be a number one center on certain playoff teams and
07:08you think he's a good hockey player and you need more of them you just haven't done a good enough
07:11job collecting those kind of players to make real meaningful progress now going into your eighth
07:16offseason like see i think part of the thing with the staffer trait the lions knew they needed to move
07:22on too and that's what eiserman didn't learn here it was like okay there was hesitancy to give
07:28him the captaincy it was a natural handoff for him to get it and yet they didn't give it to
07:32him right away
07:33why we've got to earn it earn that leadership uh mike you got a throwback you're on 97 one
07:44hey guys good morning a lot of people don't remember this or they don't know this but before
07:50the 95 season steve eiserman was being shipped to the ottawa senators it was basically a done deal
07:57him and scotty could not coexist together and that's when after that stevie started playing you know
08:03the quote-unquote two-way hockey right so they worked it out they asked it out obviously the
08:09landscape is a lot different nowadays and maybe john can talk about coaching being coached by
08:14scotty a hard-nosed coach but he needs some tough love right now and the next year they go win
08:19the
08:19president's trophy we know how that finished but maybe maybe he comes back and this is that learning
08:26experience that's going to jump into the next level yeah the alexi yashin trade that's who he would
08:31have been dealt for yeah uh so 95 i was pretty young but as someone who did a book report
08:36on
08:36steve eiserman in school i'm well aware of well aware of the story the book report you don't know
08:43you know i said that's easy to take a shot at you for but i did the same things when
08:48i was in yeah
08:49middle school and high school i love talking i did a huge thing on steroids because it was so sure
08:54when the whole ben johnson thing happened and yeah bandridge yeah that's why tom's so jacked
08:59yeah maybe that's why he doesn't have any hair exactly did you ever do like a book report on like
09:05a pro athlete or um that is so long ago okay i have no recollection you did one on harb
09:14didn't
09:14you on harbaugh no who would you have right in your wheelhouse and the athletes that you admire
09:19for a quarterback your have you met me the court your book report would have been the guarantee down
09:25in columbus no who are some of the athletes that you looked up to doesn't that be football players
09:30you love baseball uh sure kirk gibson yeah you could have done one on yeah i i may have um
09:36and
09:36it might have been tony mandrich at the time like when when that whole you know expose on him when
09:42he
09:42was on the cover of sports illustrated that was i cut that out and that was in my locker i
09:47want to be
09:47that yeah and then you didn't at that time like if you if you were an aspiring offensive lineman now
09:53all of a sudden we're like hey we're on the cover of sports illustrated could be the number one pick
09:56overall you remember the headline on the cover the incredible bulk yes sir uh-huh absolutely i could
10:02see him there was a picture in there of him pushing a grocery cart like i could see the article
10:09in my mind's eye right now and and so the other guy would have had uh you know that that
10:13i looked up
10:14to at that time was reggie white oh minister of defense had his poster in my room too so the
10:21whole
10:21eating and with mandrich and all that like the modern day comp to that would have been michael
10:25phelps remember when he was dominating and he was eating 10 000 calories a day thing is he wasn't
10:30doing steroids right yeah yeah uh the whole mandrich fallout is that why you didn't end up going to
10:35michigan state you just couldn't uh no i just want to go where i could win
10:43two four eight thing is that was four one when the spartans won the uh rose bowl with perlis and
10:49lorenzo white yeah lorenzo's great guy by the way did you ever consider msu uh sure they were my
10:55first offer oh okay oh yeah there was there was a time what could have been oh yeah well
11:01could have won a national championship there
11:06right you would have been the linchpin you would have you would have brought them to glory
11:11there's that possibility yes yeah there's no facetious laughter under my breath or anything
11:16you definitely would have done it hey great leadership they could have used them oh they
11:19absolutely could have used him and charles woodson
11:23right yeah yeah yeah it takes it takes yeah yeah it does yeah that's all i'm saying john i know
11:29yeah
11:29no i know you're trying to you know laughing at me trying to put down uh you know any contributions
11:33i would have made to the national championship that you were a contributor i don't think you
11:37were plug and play national title on anybody you played for i'm not saying that i'm just saying
11:41the possibility could have been there could have been we get the two grand slam heathers news and
11:45we'll dive deeper into this during conversation because for the first time ever someone uttered
11:49i want to play for the sacramento kings stunning 97 one
11:53you
