00:06Greg behind the glass. Of course, we're going to talk a little bit about the Lions preseason
00:10game. Saw a little more from the starters. Biggest story. Players you love. Players you're
00:14concerned about. Got a Tiger baseball team. Plenty of concern there. Swept over the weekend
00:19against the Royals. Yikes. Yeah. Not much to say. We'll say a little more about him in
00:26the overreact gyms, 835. And then there's a little bit of this chatter from the future
00:31captain about the current captain of the Detroit Red Wings. So most cider, we think he is destined
00:37to be the future captain of this hockey team. Yep. He said a bunch over the weekend. Some
00:41of this was in German. Some of this is with the athletic, but effectively a most cider media
00:45tour. Here's what he said about Larkin. You didn't necessarily see that coming. Everyone
00:52certainly has their reasons that motivate them to decide certain things. Whether I or
00:57we like it, it's beyond us to say. But one thing is certain. We are a better team if Dylan
01:03Larkin is on our team and playing on the ice than if he isn't. Is this what you've talked
01:09about, John? That fans are going to take this more personally than guys in the locker room?
01:14Yeah. There's business decisions that guys make. And this is just one of them. And I know
01:21I've used the example of guys that now they're hold-ins, but used to be hold-out of training
01:26camp. It's a business decision. Would we all prefer things to be kumbaya? Sure. That's
01:34not the world that we live in. There's going to be decisions that I make that you don't
01:39particularly make. Maybe you wouldn't make the same decision. But you respect the fact
01:44that you are making a business decision. And if it doesn't go the way that you want it
01:49to, you also have to realize that part of that business decision is you're going to
01:53be back in that locker room. You're going to have to talk to those guys and share with
01:58them some of the reasons that you had. They're your reasons. They don't have to be played
02:01out in public. But I think in terms of team dynamics, you're going to have some of those
02:05conversations. People say, well, what was he supposed to say? He didn't have to go as
02:09far as he did to say we are a better team with him than without him. That's sticking up
02:13for his guy a little bit. I think it's also obvious. And it's obvious, but not obvious
02:18to the people who are blinded by rage. There are a lot of Red Wing fans that are like, I
02:22don't want to see this guy step foot on the ice. And if he does, we're going to make his
02:26life a living hell. Meanwhile, a guy who actually has to, you know, blood, sweat and
02:30tears play with him is like, yeah, man, I need a center on this hockey team. What's the
02:35alternative? So I don't know if fans are going to get where Mo is, but that's the future captain
02:41talking to current captain saying, yeah, we want this guy. We need this guy. If we're going
02:45to win hockey games and Sider said a bunch of other stuff too, he, he acknowledged this
02:48overall situation says it's time. You feel bad for everyone in the city. You feel bad
02:54for the arena. Sider says it's such a precious building and it hasn't seen a playoff game
02:59since opening. It's time to pay back not only for the city, but for the fans, because they've
03:03been behind us for the good times and now numerous years of not so good times. Hopefully
03:08we can turn the page and get a real special atmosphere. He also took ownership. He said,
03:12obviously you never want anything like that to happen talking about the collapses, but
03:16you start questioning yourself. Did the team do enough to make us a proud franchise? That's
03:21where we can take a little bit of the blame. He's speaking like a guy who's going to have
03:24the sea at some point. Yeah. And, and rightfully so he should. Now it's just a matter of when
03:29does, when does that transition happen? Do you think it's possible that it could happen
03:33while they're both teammates or is that a bridge that's too far? I don't think that
03:40happens until Dylan Larkin's play drops off dramatically. And it would be one where he
03:49would probably, you know, go to management and say, Hey, Mo deserves this. Oh, that would
03:55be the, he would do that. I think there's a world where they have, I think it's unlikely,
03:59especially anytime in the next three or four years. Well, I do. I think Mo deserves that
04:04before then. Certainly. Well, who says Larkin's going to be here for the next three or four
04:07years. Let's, let's just see what happens because we don't even have a general manager
04:12yet. Let's see how he navigates the Dylan Larkin issue. Let's see how he navigates free
04:18agency, the trade deadline. I do think, I don't think there is a world where Dylan Larkin finishes
04:23this contract in Detroit. I agree with you and he could be dealt not now because there's
04:30not enough time in the season is going to start. He could be dealt at the deadline. Yeah.
04:33I think that's the most likely scenario where teams get maybe a little more desperate.
04:37Maybe there's a couple more teams get added to the list. I don't know, but Dylan has held
04:40firm through reporting that this is still the same short list, the teams. And I just feel
04:45like a fair compromise would be, you still want out understood, but while you're going
04:51to be here, we need someone else to be calling the shots from the players. And Mo is the guy
04:56to do it. You don't say like, we expect you to show up, be a professional, play hard, work
05:02your way into a better situation in the future. But while you're here, we still need someone
05:06to lead this hockey team. And Mo Sider is just the guy to do it. Yes. I think that's
05:13what should happen. Should and will are two different things. Right. I don't see a world
05:17within the, let's just, let's go with the, you know, two year timeframe. If Dylan Larkin
05:22is still here for this coming hockey season and next year where he's not wearing the C.
05:30Hockey fans, this is an interesting read. How does this go down? If we all think Sider's
05:36the captain eventually, when is eventually? And could it be like a month from now? Or
05:41is it, Hey, while Larkin's here, the C's on his sweater. And then maybe bigger picture
05:45is Red Wing fans. Do you view this the way Mo does? Where, Hey, we're better with them.
05:50I can put this aside. Or are you still seeing red? Two, four, eight, five, three,
05:54nine, 97, 97. Is there, do you correct me if I'm wrong? Because I mean, the world has
06:00gotten weird and it's only going to get weirder where there could be two captains. No, you
06:06can't do that. I'm just, Hey, we see it in football. There's 10 guys go out for a coin
06:12toss. There's one captain in hockey. Come on. I, I, I, I, I agree with that. You're just
06:20this proud franchise. I don't think we're going to start that trend, but there's
06:24weirder things that have happened. If you have two captains, it's like if you have two
06:29quarterbacks, you have none. Yes. If you have two captains, you have none. Yes. Someone's
06:32the final voice. I interject. The Buffalo Sabres did do this in the 06 07. Did they
06:38really? They alternated them. So it's not the two guys would wear the C, but Daniel
06:43Briere and Chris Drury were co-captains. And so one would wear the C kind of alternate
06:49on days. I didn't realize that. See, not such dumb question. Now, John, why can't the
06:57offensive line play the defensive line? But it's to my point, to your point, it is very
07:06rare and it would be really awkward. I would guess the Buffalo Sabres probably have the
07:14worst record in the NHL since that time. Well, not that it matters or correlates, but no,
07:22but Tom just wants to say something. I don't know what I mean. No, no, no. Look like it
07:27does any good for you to have two captains. They're losing his franchise and that they've
07:31been horrible. Okay. And we haven't seen the playoffs in a decade. Yeah.
07:36We're not exactly leaving from the front of that one. They've been like two decades
07:39almost, I think. Yeah. Well, I think it was 14 years for them. We might get there. We're
07:44well on our way. How do you feel about how this is going to go down? I think they should
07:50try to mend fences with Dylan Larkin. I agree with Mo Sider. They're a better hockey team
07:54with him on it. They should try to make this work. It might not be able to. He's going
07:59to be fine in the locker room. These people who think he can't step in the locker room
08:03after demanding trade are living in a fake world. It's not today's athletes. You know,
08:08this is the type of text we get. Screw Larkin. Get that soft crybaby bitch out of here. We
08:13will boo Larkin. It's a very different tone than that of Mo Sider. John, you're talking
08:18about players and business decisions, but we as fans are talking about a captain. That's
08:22why it's a big deal here in Detroit, David and Frazier. Like people need to realize here
08:27that this can work with him here. And there's also a world where it doesn't, but the world
08:33of making it work and trying to move forward with Larkin still on the team adds to his value
08:40to get a better trade at the trade deadline. Like people need to, you are handcuffed right
08:47now in terms of what you're going to, barring some miracle. Look, there's 88 GMs out there.

09:13why I said, I think Sider takes the captain. Larkin stays on the team, but someone else who
09:19wants to be here and isn't actively seeking a trade with a no trade list is the captain
09:24of your hockey team. I don't know. That should be doable, right? Mo extends the olive branch.

09:52been in the postseason. I just, I don't see a world this year where Dylan Larkin's back
