00:00Okay, Gator, you said you'd bring, you want to bring this free agent back?
00:06I do, I do, and I'm watching the game last night,
00:09and the third goal last night for the Red Wings was spectacular.
00:12Patrick Kane made a defensive play,
00:16tipped the puck past and got it at center ice,
00:20and created a two-on-one,
00:23made a phenomenal move on Vasilevsky to pass the puck over to Dabrinka
00:27who slammed it home for a goal.
00:30Patrick Kane's a free agent, you know, just got done these tomorrow night,
00:33it'll be the last game of the season,
00:34and he'll have completed a one-year, $3 million contract.
00:39I want him back.
00:41He can still play at a very high level.
00:44Offensively, he is still gifted 57 points in 66 games.
00:4941 assists in the 66 games.
00:52Steady on that second line.
00:54I don't care that he doesn't play defense.
00:56I don't.
00:57You know why?
00:58Because this team can't score goals.
01:00And it's not like guys that have 60-point season fall off trees
01:05and they're saying, yes, I want to play for the Red Wings.
01:07This guy might actually want to play for the Red Wings.
01:09He says he still has plenty of gas left in the tank.
01:11He's playing next year.
01:12He doesn't know if it's going to be in Detroit or somewhere else,
01:15but he's going to play.
01:16If he's going to play, play here.
01:18If you can get him for roughly the same amount of money,
01:20you've got plenty of room to fit that in.
01:22Again, it's a one-year contract, and it's a guy who solidifies that second line,
01:28solidifies the power play unit.
01:30He's one of the pluses on the team.
01:33On a team that can't score goals, he leads to scoring goals.
01:37So I don't want to lose Patrick Kane just because we're doing this purge
01:40and everybody's being punitive about this team right now,
01:43and let's wreck it and get rid of everybody.
01:46When he and DeBrinckit click, like tremendously click,
01:51they're more than point-of-game guys over the last 20 games.
01:56They don't have a ton of free agents, unrestricted free agents.
02:00There are guys that I think are as good as gone.
02:04Cam Talbot, good as gone.
02:07David Perron, good as gone.
02:12And James Van Reeves Dyke, I would not have thought that,
02:16but probably as good as gone.
02:18Well, he's seen his ice time diminish over the last couple months,
02:22and I'm not sure why that is.
02:24If he's dealing with an injury or what,
02:26or you're giving more ice time to other players.
02:28I don't know.
02:28He had been relatively productive,
02:31and then they start cutting his minutes.
02:34But yeah, I don't think he's long for this team.
02:38Yeah, so I think he's as good as gone.
02:40Patrick Kane didn't cost much.
02:43No.
02:44But there's also sort of, hey,
02:49given the guys that are under contract,
02:52it's starting to look a lot like the same team coming back.
02:57And do you just to create a roster spot?
03:00I mean, why am I getting rid of a guy who's actually productive on a team
03:03that struggles with production?
03:06That's the question I'm going to ask.
03:07To get somebody better?
03:09Okay, I'm all for getting somebody better,
03:11but if I'm going to get somebody better than Patrick Kane,
03:14that means it's taking a place of David Perron, not Patrick Kane.
03:17Well, you can take Perron's money and Kane's money,
03:19and that's $7 million,
03:20and go get somebody better than Patrick Kane.
03:22But they have money to spend.
03:23No, I mean, you can get more than one player.
03:25I mean, look, I don't have a strong opinion one way or another
03:29because I think he would come cheap.
03:31I think he could probably even offer him less,
03:33and if he doesn't take it, fine.
03:36But I'm about seeing some significant change in this offseason,
03:40and he just happens to be a contract that's up.
03:43Kenny, do you?
03:45Kenny's in a bad place these days, but go ahead.
03:48Yeah, I'm in a bad place.
03:49I have zero interest in Patrick Kane.
03:51He's old and slow, and if you pay him again,
03:54he's going to be older and slower, still with a resurfaced hip,
03:58I have zero interest in bringing back Patrick Kane.
04:00But who are we going to have that's going to put up
04:02more production than he does?
04:04You could list a number of free agents
04:06that could be as good as he was.
04:08But can't you use those guys instead of having Perron
04:11or Appleton or something like that
04:13or Rasmussen or whatever?
04:14I'd rather see those guys be the ones on the way out
04:17rather than Patrick Kane.
04:19I'm not advocating for any of those guys either.
04:21Let me be clear.
04:22But I'm also not advocating for Patrick Kane.
04:26Well, look, I don't know if it's even a tough decision
04:29because it's not a ton of money.
04:32That's the thing.
04:33It doesn't cost you.
04:34And he's perfect with Debrinkit.
04:37I mean, they come up with scoring opportunities
04:39every single game, regardless of the fact
04:41that the Red Wings are down by four goals
04:43or they're up by a couple goals.
04:44These guys are consistent.
04:47That's why I wanted it.
04:49I'm getting to be passionate about it,
04:51and I didn't expect it.
04:52I didn't expect it from you either.
04:54I did not see that coming.
04:55Very upset right now.
04:56I did not leave you alone.
05:00All of a sudden, I've got a lesser opinion of Kenny
05:02because he doesn't want to bring Patrick Kane back.
05:03I'm sorry.
05:04And that's not right.
05:05That's not right.
05:05You're entitled to your opinion,
05:07but you're in a darker place than I am.
05:09I am.
05:10It's been a while, too.
05:12Yeah, Kenny wants to detonate the whole thing.
05:14Yes.
05:14Kenny probably just wants to keep Moe's cider,
05:16maybe Debrinkit, and everybody else can go.
05:18I want to trade one of either Larkin or Raymond for a star.
05:23You staple a pick.
05:24You staple a prospect to him.
05:25Get somebody that's an elite player.
05:29That might be on the table.
05:31I don't.
05:31I'm still worried about the GM.
05:34GMing in a desperate fashion to save his job,
05:37but we'll see how it plays itself out.
05:40248-539-9797.
05:42If you missed the beginning of the show,
05:45very interesting player poll from The Athletic
05:47regarding the NBA and the postseason.
05:50When players are asked who will win the NBA title,
05:53how many said the Detroit Pistons?
05:57We'll get to that today at 102.
05:59Here are Carson Anderson.
06:00Plus your open line calls and your ticket text mixed in.
06:03It's Carson Anderson, 97-1.
