00:00It is going to be wet at times this week, but also markedly warmer than it was last week.
00:06That's because there's much warmer air across the country.
00:09There's actually some pretty hot air across parts of Western Europe at the moment,
00:13and that's going to feed eastwards through the next few days.
00:16Parts of Spain, France, even Italy could get above 40 Celsius this week.
00:21And some of that hot air could just about clip into parts of the southeast later in the week.
00:25Meanwhile, further north and west, it's always going to be cloudier and a bit fresher with some rain
00:30because there's low pressure lingering to the northwest of us.
00:34And that's sort of the story that we have through Tuesday, really.
00:37Quite a bit of cloud and outbreaks of rain across much of Scotland, northern parts of England, Wales,
00:41some parts of the southwest and also for Northern Ireland too,
00:44and some blustery winds towards the north and west as well.
00:47Some more persistent rain starting to push into Western Wales later in the afternoon and early evening as well.
00:53Across more central, southern, eastern parts of England, it's actually looking like a largely fine day.
00:58The sunshine may be a bit hazy at times because of some high-level cloud,
01:01but temperatures are going to be relatively high, feeling quite hot actually for some,
01:05with highs of around 27 Celsius.
01:07Elsewhere, we're looking at highs in the high teens, low 20s, that kind of thing.
01:11And yes, with the fresh winds towards the northwest, it is going to feel a little bit fresher,
01:17well, markedly fresher than towards the hot southeast.
01:20There is a front making its way across the country in association with that low pressure
01:25that's still just lurking to the northwest of us through Tuesday and into Wednesday.
01:30And it's that front that's bringing the more persistent rain initially, like I showed you,
01:33over western parts of Wales, but into Wednesday morning,
01:37more persistent heavy rain across parts of southwest England, south Wales.
01:40And then that all feeds further eastwards across central and later eastern parts of England.
01:45It could be quite heavy, persistent at times before it clears away towards the east through the afternoon.
01:50For the rest of England, Scotland, northern Ireland, quite cloudy,
01:53further outbreaks of showery rain, that kind of thing,
01:56and still some blustery winds at times for some northern and western parts.
02:00And worth noting, there could be some murkiness and grottiness around some western coastal parts as well.
02:05With more cloud, more rain towards the southeast compared to Tuesday,
02:08here temperatures will be down a couple of degrees.
02:10Elsewhere, they're looking similar.
02:12So once more high teens, low 20s.
02:15Into Thursday, and there's a front still lingering across us.
02:19To the south of this, we could start to get a bit more of that hot air coming in from
02:23the south,
02:24from the near continent.
02:25And towards the northwest of this, it's staying fresher.
02:28And as well as that, that front as it edges northwards,
02:31well, that's where we're going to see the focus of the rain on Thursday.
02:33So quite wet across northern Ireland, western parts of Wales, north Wales as well,
02:39parts of northern England and also much of Scotland,
02:41a cloudy, wet picture as that front edge is further northwards.
02:45Across the rest of England, however, it may be a bit cloudy to start off with,
02:49but things should brighten up through the afternoon.
02:51And with that hot air from the near continent,
02:53well, temperatures are likely to get to highs of around 28 or 29 Celsius, 30 Celsius,
02:58not out of the question, but not that likely for Thursday.
03:01Across parts of Wales, particularly eastern Wales,
03:04looks like it will be the warmest day of the week here,
03:06mid-20s, that kind of thing.
03:08Elsewhere, again, high teens, low 20s.
03:11Worth highlighting that there's the potential for some thunderstorms to kick off
03:14across parts of the southeast later on Thursday,
03:17through the evening in particular,
03:18because of that hot, humid air coming in from the south.
03:21But that's only a low risk at the moment.
03:23Now, there is a fair amount of rain to come through this week,
03:26and most of it is coming in from the west-southwest.
03:29But actually, day on day, where we see the heaviest rain,
03:32that actually changes.
03:33So I mentioned some heavy, persistent rain feeding eastwards
03:36across southern parts of England through Wednesday.
03:39And then that front on Thursday pushes northwards,
03:42bringing rain across Northern Ireland, parts of western northern Wales,
03:45northern England and Scotland.
03:47And so, well, it's going to be a bit soggy at times,
03:50but rainfall totals through the whole week don't look especially high.
03:53Some places getting in excess of 50 millimetres, perhaps.
03:56But that's not a huge amount of rain.
03:58In fact, some people will be quite glad to get some rain at this time of year.
04:02Into Friday, and we still have a front across us.
04:05And as well as bringing a bit of rain,
04:06it really forms the boundary between something a bit fresher
04:08towards the northwest and towards the southeast,
04:11where we have that hotter air from the near continent coming in.
04:14It's also towards the south and east,
04:15where we're going to get the brightest, sunniest weather.
04:18Lots of blue sky here on Friday.
04:20Otherwise, it's a bit cloudy.
04:21Outbreaks of rain with that front across parts of southwest England,
04:24Wales up to northern England,
04:26and some showery bursts of rain across some parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
04:29But actually a decent amount of dry and at times brighter weather too.
04:33Like I said, because of that front,
04:34we do have fresher air towards the northwest of us.
04:37And so, again, high teens, low 20s,
04:40similar to what we've seen really through much of the week.
04:42But towards the southeast,
04:44probably the hottest day of the week could just about get into the low 30 Celsius.
04:4830, 31 Celsius, that kind of thing.
04:52It's worth highlighting the difference in temperatures between Friday and the average,
04:56because you can just see how much hotter than average it is going to be across eastern parts,
05:00but further west, where it's actually, if anything,
05:03going to be a little bit cooler, fresher than average.
05:05And it's all because of that front forming that boundary between those two air masses.
05:10That front continues to linger across us into Saturday.
05:13We could still see some hot air affecting parts of the southeast on Saturday,
05:17which technically could make it a heat wave,
05:19as we have three consecutive days where temperatures reach above the threshold needed.
05:24There's more changeable weather coming in from the west-southwest through the weekend,
05:27but also higher pressure towards the southeast.
05:29So, a bit of a mixed bag for this weekend.
05:31We need to pay attention to an area of low pressure developing by the beginning of next week.
05:35But, of course, we'll keep you updated on any progress that makes towards the UK.
05:39Whatever you're up to, and if you're in the southeast,
05:42I hope you're able to enjoy any of the hot weather.
05:45But I'll see you again soon. Bye-bye.
