00:00Mary Kay's on the Wives of the Right. We make it right. Call Kyle Wright Hotline.
00:04Hello, Mary Kay. Whoa. Hello, Mary Kay. Hi. How are you?
00:08I don't need to ask you how you are. I'm sorry. I got thrown off a little bit there.
00:13I got a weird question here, and it's uncomfortable. It's very uncomfortable.
00:17Terry Ann Arnold gets arrested. Conspiracy to rob and kidnap, and that's ugly.
00:24And he probably is not going to be back this season unless he gets completely exonerated of anything very, very
00:31soon.
00:31It doesn't look like that's going to happen either.
00:33The Lions have to call the Browns then, don't they?
00:36And this is a conversation that we're probably going to have to have.
00:39Hopefully no more guys get arrested, but if another corner goes down,
00:43because of the Miles Garrett trade, we just have to have this conversation every time
00:48because the less corners that are good in the NFL, the more his price would go up.
00:54Well, I think, as you mentioned, the Miles Garrett trade makes certain that no one is completely off limits
01:02and that everyone has a price and that there's a time and a place for everything.
01:05But I really don't see the Browns having any desire whatsoever to trade Denzel Ward.
01:11Now, of course, having said that, and like I said back when you asked me about Miles Garrett,
01:16you can never say never about any of these things.
01:19You know, you're not going to trade someone until someone comes along and offers you Jared Burst
01:25and a first-round pick and a second-round pick and a third-round pick.
01:28So you can never say never.
01:30We know that Andrew Barry loves to wheel and deal, but at this moment in time,
01:33I don't think that they have any plans whatsoever to trade Denzel Ward.
01:38Everybody has a price.
01:39I agree.
01:40I agree with everything you just said.
01:41What would the price have to be on Denzel for them?
01:44Not to do it, but to have this conversation of, okay, we have to take this seriously.
01:50Well, he's one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
01:53He's a great leader for this football team.
01:55First-round picks would certainly have to be involved.
01:59And I don't know if it would have to be multiple or if it would have to be one
02:03and some other good things.
02:04But you're not going to give up Denzel Ward for nothing.
02:08He would come at a pretty steep and heavy price.
02:11And, once again, I just don't even think that this is something that they want to do
02:15in any way, shape, or form.
02:17Another person in that secondary, Grant Delpit.
02:20And, you know, he wasn't participating.
02:22And I kind of threw it in with Lima.
02:25Was he kind of having a hold-in?
02:27Because that's a contract that's up.
02:28What do you know about the future of Grant Delpit with the Cleveland Browns?
02:33You know, Grant is in really, really good standing.
02:35If you watched him on the sidelines,
02:36you could see with your own two eyes that he was not conducting a hold-in.
02:41He was engaged.
02:42He was helping other players.
02:44He was laughing.
02:45He was joking around.
02:46He was watching drills.
02:48He was very, very much into it.
02:51And he showed up for voluntary OTAs as well.
02:54You're not going to do that if you are staging a hold-in.
02:58So this is not that kind of situation with him.
03:01He had a minor tweak of something, as did Denzel Ward, during minicamp.
03:05These were not a pair of contract issues going on out there by any stretch.
03:10Grant is in great standing with the club.
03:12They like Grant as much as they always have.
03:15And I would think at some point over the next several months
03:19that they will open up probably some extension talks with him.
03:23And I think they certainly like him well enough to try to get something done.
03:28I was going to say, like, how quickly can they get something done with him?
03:32He's still a young player.
03:33Gary's still very, very good, but you answered it right there.
03:36I want to ask you about your Myles Garrett story there.
03:40You know, it seemed like, does it feel like maybe there was writing on the wall
03:44leading up to this?
03:45Because, yeah, he's respecting the locker room,
03:47but it wasn't necessarily a lovey-dovey relationship with the rest of the team.
03:54Well, as I wrote in my story about Jared Burst being more of a connector, a unifier,
03:59maybe a force multiplier in some ways, I think that Myles had the impact on some guys
04:05that he almost dwarfed some of the other players on the football team,
04:09just with his larger-than-life presence.
04:11I think there were times on the football field where maybe a guy was a little reluctant
04:16to go all out and meet him at the quarterback for half of a sack
04:21because maybe he knew he would hear about that or something.
04:24You know, I just think that Jared Burst might have more of a team-building effect
04:30on this roster.
04:31And the players, most of the players, all of the players respected Myles, revered Myles.
04:38Not all of them absolutely loved him in the way that you sometimes do with a teammate.
04:45So we'll see how this goes.
04:47I don't necessarily think that he was one of those guys that you would call
04:51a great team leader by any stretch.
04:54Yeah, I totally agree with that.
04:57The Soresby thing, and I'm asking this from a stance of,
05:01I want no part of him in Cleveland.
05:02I've been consistent on that.
05:04I'm just curious from what you know, do you think he wins this,
05:09what seems to be a legal battle that's about to ensue,
05:13or is he really sitting out the year?
05:17Well, this is kind of a tangled mess right now,
05:20and I don't know if they're going to have time to actually pull off a supplemental draft,
05:25which has to be conducted, I think, seven days before the start of training camps,
05:30which I think most camps open around July.
05:33Yeah, it's coming very fast.
05:36For some teams, it's sooner than July 29th.
05:40For a lot of teams, it is July 29th, including the Browns.
05:44So I don't know if they're going to be able to get something done in time for the 2027 season.
05:50So I think we all have to see how this is going to play out,
05:53and I think it's going to end up, it could end up in court,
05:57the NFLPA is going to get involved.
06:00But I just don't think that the Browns are hot on his heels to put in a bid on him
06:06in the event that he somehow is able to pull off a supplemental draft before this season.
06:12I just don't, I'm not feeling it.
06:14I wrote that right off the rip when he first said he was entering the supplemental draft,
06:19and I still feel that way.
06:21I don't think much has changed in that regard.
06:23I think they like what they have in the room,
06:25and I don't think they want to get involved in this situation.
06:28Speaking of quarterbacks, there's been some smoke in certain places about trade rumors
06:33for, what, two members of the Browns quarterback room and Dylan Gabriel
06:38and certainly Shador Sanders.
06:40I haven't heard anything.
06:42Have you, Mary Kay, has there been anybody who's texting you about teams putting in calls
06:46about Shador or even Dylan Gabriel?
06:50No, not at the moment.
06:51I think that the Browns are pretty committed to their two-way quarterback competition
06:56between Shador and Deshaun, and I think camp will open up that way,
07:01and then we'll see how that plays out.
07:03Now, when you fast forward to August 30th and it comes time to shaping your roster
07:08and making those cutdowns, at that point they will do what they always do,
07:11and they will listen to offers for any quarterbacks that aren't starting.
07:17And that's just how it goes.
07:19Each year we've heard about, you know, them possibly trading Joe Flacco
07:23and possibly trading Jameis Winston, possibly trading a number of guys,
07:28and quite often they do end up trading those guys.
07:31So I do think that there is a world in which, if Deshaun wins the job,
07:37that they probably would at least take a phone call for Shador.
07:42They would take phone calls for Dylan Gabriel, but I don't think they're shopping him right now.
07:48I don't think they're looking to trade him.
07:50I think they want to conduct their quarterback competition and let it play out.
07:54It just seems to be Mary Kay as well.
07:56Mary Kay Cabot joining us on the show.
07:57It just seems to be nonsense where, like, okay, Kenny Pickett got traded last year,
08:01but he was traded after he had the hamstring tweak in camp, and once he had the hamstring,
08:05and it's like, well, he could be out two weeks.
08:06I'm like, well, that's it.
08:07He ain't going to be the starting quarterback now.
08:09And, yeah, they've traded quarterbacks, but they've made it kind of clear
08:13they were moving on from them being the starter.
08:15This would be crazy where it's like, hey, this guy, he is legitimately in the conversation
08:19to be the week one starter.
08:23I don't think you'd be talking about trading him.
08:25I don't understand about any rumors about trading Shador Sanders.
08:29I could understand Dylan Gabriel to some level, I guess, for a seventh rounder,
08:33but Shador, I don't think.
08:35You have a new head coach.
08:36Why would you do something like that right now?
08:38It doesn't make sense.
08:40Well, you would not be engaging in substantive trade talks right now.
08:44You just wouldn't be doing that.
08:45What might happen, perhaps, maybe you're checking around about the availability of another player,
08:50and while you're on the phone with the team, they say, hey, what are your plans with Shador?
08:55I mean, there could be things like that going on, because teams have those kinds of talks all the time.
08:59But I'm sure at that point, that's where the Browns would say, no, we're not moving him.
09:03We're conducting a quarterback competition.
09:05We think he could possibly be our week one starter.
09:07We see some really good things in him.
09:08He came on really strong in the second half of OTAs and in minicamp, and we're not ready to give
09:13up on him yet.
09:13We want to see what we have.
09:14So I'm sure that's probably how the conversations would go.
09:18Can you keep him as the backup if he doesn't win the starting job?
09:23I think it would be challenging.
09:25I think it would be very challenging.
09:27I think the Browns probably believe they can do that, but I think that perhaps they would be underestimating the
09:35reaction that would be happening at Huntington Bankfield.
09:39And they'll probably get a taste of it in preseason, and they should.
09:42They should find out what happens when you put Deshaun Watson out there and when you put Shador out there
09:48and what the reaction is, because it's going to be more of the same.
09:52This will be a unique situation if Deshaun wins the job, because he'll actually be better received on the road
09:59than he will be at home.
10:01And it's a great way to start out the season with two games on the road, but then you do
10:05have to come home, and you are going to have to deal with the very real phenomenon of Shador being
10:11loved and Deshaun being the villain.
10:14And it's something that has to be addressed and dealt with, and it's just a very, very interesting problem to
10:23have.
10:24Well, if he's named the backup officially, like after camp, they go, you know, we're going to go with Deshaun.
10:29Again, there's like, you can't, it could end up being the best thing for Shador, because I could see a
10:36world where, hey, you started out behind the eight ball last year.
10:39You got thrust into games that maybe you weren't ready for, you had to catch up with, and you got
10:45a new coach, you got a new system.
10:47I mean, I don't want to have to be talking about, well, we got to trade him just because he
10:50doesn't start.
10:51I don't think that that could be very good for Shador's career.
10:55I don't think that could be good for Shador's maturation as an NFL quarterback.
10:58But aren't they telling you what they think about him if Deshaun starts over him?
11:04Yeah, I certainly do agree that they think that he's more equipped for them to win games.
11:08I was asking Mary Kay that question, though, not Jason.
11:11Well, Mary Kay can answer.
11:12Oh, sorry, Mary Kay, go right on ahead.
11:14I mean, here's the thing.
11:16I'm sure the Browns would think that even if Deshaun starts the season, they want to keep Shador around,
11:20because generally they end up starting two, three, four, five quarterbacks in a season,
11:26and they probably would get a chance to see Shador like they did last year when he came from fourth
11:31-string quarterback
11:33to starting quarterback of this football team for the final seven games.
11:36So there is probably a world in which he would start games even if he doesn't start the season.
11:42But right now, they really legitimately, truly feel that he has a shot to do that,
11:48and they're not ready to give up on that.
11:50Mary Kay Cabot, on the Wiseheart Right, We Make It Right, call Kyle Wright Hotline.
11:55Final question, how do you keep raccoons out of the garbage?
12:01You have to keep the garage door closed.
12:03I'm sorry, let me rephrase the question.
12:05When the garbage is taken out to the curb, how do you keep raccoons out of your garbage?
12:10Mary Kay is in a gated community.
12:12There are no raccoons.
12:13Raccoons can climb over gates, can climb over walls.
12:18She doesn't live in a biosphere.
12:21This is a good question.
12:23Maybe put a little dish outside of the garbage can with some raccoon food in it.
12:28Well, raccoon food is just garbage, so I would just sprinkle a little bit of garbage on a plate.
12:33There you go.
12:34Okay.
12:35A little plate of garbage for your raccoon right next to the garbage can.
12:41Well, thank you, Mary Kay.
12:42You've given us a drop for the show, and we appreciate it.
12:45Congratulations on your promo.
12:46Yes.
12:47Thank you so much, Mary Kay.
12:48You have a wonderful day and weekend, and we'll talk to you next week.
12:51Sounds good.
12:52Thanks, guys.
12:53Mary Kay Cabot, on the Wiseheart Right, We Make It Right, call Kyle Wright Hotline.
12:58Because someday I'm going to be bitching about the Browns quarterback situation,
13:01and Owen's going to hit something that's maybe just get a little plate of garbage.
13:05And you put it out there for the raccoon.
13:08All right.
13:08I was going to talk about Miles there for a second.
13:10Are you questioning whether or not Shador can be a backup or be the backup for the Browns?
13:14Because she brings up a hell of a thing.
13:16Because I remember the Joe Flacco conversation.
13:18Absolutely.
13:18About letting him go after the 2023 year.
13:21And she just jogged that memory.
13:22But that's when you still cared about what Deshaun thought back then.
13:25I'm sorry.
