00:22Let's get started.
00:41Let's get started.
01:11Let's get started.
01:40Let's get started.
02:10Let's get started.
02:40Let's get started.
03:28Let's get started.
03:54Let's get started.
04:17Let's get started.
04:21Welcome, welcome, welcome on in, everybody.
04:26Welcome into another episode of Reading Between the Wines.
04:29We are on episode 34.
04:33The money wasn't missing.
04:35I was.
04:37So we're getting ready to go there tonight.
04:39We're going to speak about basically emotional escapes and how they can disguise themselves as financial opportunities.
04:49It's so mystical.
05:20I want to give you, I want to give you, I want to give you, I want to give a
05:21very special thank you to each and every one of you out there listening.
05:29Good morning to you.
05:59I want to go ahead and give you, I want to go ahead and give you, I want to go
06:04ahead and give you, I want to give you a shout out as well.
06:29I want to give you a shout out as well.
06:53I want to give you a shout out as well.
07:02I want to give you a shout out as well.
07:10I want to give you a shout out as well.
07:21I want to give you a shout out as well.
07:37I can't find it. So as I was searching and looking, I came across barefoot sangria.
07:43Now, I don't know if I've ever tried this. Maybe I have. I can't remember.
07:47It wasn't that memorable if it was the case, but this is just straight up barefoot sangria.
07:54And we're going to get in tonight as well. And yeah, it's much overdue.
07:59So welcome on in. Thank you all so much for joining. And let's get on into this.
08:18Song of the day. Still believe in love. By my favorite artist.
08:25The woman who has built the soundtrack of my life. The queen of hip hop soul. Miss Mary J. Blige.
08:33Now, y'all know that it's some real stuff when I bring Mary to the table. Still believe in love.
08:422003. Not 2003. 2023. Still believe in love. This was a single.
08:54And the question that I have, because you know I'm going to remix it, is do you still believe?
09:00What do you believe in? See, if you believe, you got to believe in something real.
09:05And I still believe in love. Love is real. Love is God.
09:09And I believe. I believe in God. I'm thankful that I'm still here.
09:20I still believe in myself. And he is giving me everything that I have so that I can continuously believe
09:28in myself.
09:29You know. It's been a journey since 2020.
09:36And just as I take a few steps forward, sometimes it felt as if I had taken several steps backwards.
09:46See, the enemy saw that I changed and made a shift in 2020.
09:54And I made him very angry because he thought that he had me.
10:00He captivated my mind and had it all twisted up in 2013.
10:06But I broke free in 2020.
10:10And during that process, as me breaking free, he was very upset.
10:20And he decided to send people my way.
10:24And still tries to send people my way.
10:27But see, I just think of.
10:30And again, last week I was a little on a tired edge.
10:33And I had to take a little breather and take a little breath and take a little rest and relaxation
10:39to continuously get focused and re-energize and build up this vitality.
10:45But I think about Genesis 50, 20.
10:50But as for you, ye thought evil against me, but God made it unto good to bring to pass as
10:59it is this day to spare much people alive.
11:02See, I think about my biblical heroes, such as Joseph.
11:07You know, Joseph went from the pit to the palace.
11:11And it's so interesting.
11:13In life, sometimes we go through the same things that some of these biblical characters have gone through.
11:21And the blueprint is already laid out for us.
11:26And sometimes we don't even know.
11:28And I think of Esther as well.
11:32What she endured.
11:35And the decisions that she had to make in order to save a whole nation and get through to the
11:43other side.
11:45But again, the enemy was very jealous.
11:50Enemy was very upset.
11:54And sometimes when we are tested and we go through these trials and we go through these tribulations, I don't
12:00know who I'm speaking to.
12:01I'm only speaking from real life experiences.
12:03It is so hard because we're so used to doing things our way.
12:09But one thing that I had to learn is be still.
12:14And know that I had to be still and let God do what he had to do.
12:21And I say to this day, Lord, more of you and less of me.
12:25Because I already know who I am and I know what I do.
12:29And I cannot make it through without you.
12:32So please, more of you and less of me.
12:38And then during this trial, like I said, during these tribulations, during these ups, during these peaks, during these valleys,
12:46the enemy can get very clever, very cunning and try to send people your way to throw you off for
12:53your game.
12:54But there's this powerful word that God has blessed me with, and I'm so thankful I have a great level
13:01of discernment today.
13:03And then during this process, I've understood the term Judas Kiss.
13:10Because those people that are just so close to you, they always be the first ones to step up and
13:17stick the knife right through you.
13:20But I'm so thankful today.
13:22And I'm going to go on another merry record.
13:24Listen, I never claimed to be a genius, but I lived long enough to see this.
13:28See, you fooled me several times in my lifetime.
13:35But yeah, that was young version of me.
13:37Today, this is the adult version of me.
13:41And I'm good.
13:42Because I still believe.
13:44I believe in the most high.
13:46And I know.
13:47Listen.
13:49Everything that happens, happens for good.
13:51And what you thought and what you meant for evil, Lord knows that God meant it for good.
14:00And see, that's exactly why sometimes we can't get upset when people do things to us.
14:06We can't get upset when people try to throw us off track.
14:10Because guess what?
14:11God don't play about his people.
14:13See, you got to be very careful about the things that you do and the moves that you make.
14:21You never know who you're dealing with.
14:24And God don't play about his children.
14:27And I still believe.
14:28And I still believe.
14:29And listen.
14:30What you thought was for evil.
14:34God meant it for good.
14:35And the only thing that you disrespectful.
14:39And I'm going to keep it clean.
14:40No good.
14:41Backbiting.
14:42Jealous.
14:43Envious people did.
14:45To me.
14:47It's just pulled me closer to God.
14:49And we going in.
14:51We going in.
14:52And I'm here to spread the good news.
14:54And I'm here to spread the good word.
14:55And for my brothers and sisters out there.
14:58I know y'all might be going through some things.
15:02Y'all might be going through the storm.
15:04You don't even understand why.
15:05You don't even know how.
15:07How could people.
15:07I used to ask all the time.
15:09How could people be so evil.
15:11Why would they do something like this to me.
15:13I have been nothing but nice.
15:15And I have been nothing but me.
15:16But you just being you.
15:18You being God like.
15:20That is enough.
15:22To piss the enemy off.
15:23And that is enough.
15:25To make him go ahead and send these imps.
15:28These disrespectful.
15:30These.
15:32Fear mongers.
15:35They try to throw you off your track.
15:37They try to shake you up.
15:39But see I fear no man today.
15:42Absolutely not.
15:43Because I know who my father is.
15:46And because I know who my father is.
15:50Therefore he's giving me everything.
15:52To make sure that I know who I am.
15:55And I still believe.
15:56I believe in myself.
15:57I believe in my father.
16:00I believe in love.
16:01Because I am love.
16:04We here.
16:05We here.
16:06We up.
16:07I want to say thank y'all.
16:09Yeah.
16:10This was a real one.
16:22A little amped up.
16:24And it is like night and day.
16:27Because last week.
16:28I was absolutely just.
16:30Y'all know the record.
16:32I was speaking about Kelly Price.
16:34I was tired.
16:35I was over it.
16:35I didn't want to be bothered by anybody.
16:37Honestly just.
16:38Sometimes I just want to go in my little box.
16:40And I don't want to be bothered.
16:42And that's how I was feeling last week.
16:44Because.
16:45I can separate the BS from the truth.
16:47I have a good level of discernment.
16:50And I can see when people mean no good.
16:52And just the fact that I have that energy.
16:56Around me.
16:58I'm very sensitive to people in their tricky ways.
17:01And I'm just over it.
17:04But again.
17:05I had to go back to the lab.
17:06I had to pray.
17:07I had to build myself up.
17:10You know.
17:11Because I'm human too.
17:12And sometimes I fall short.
17:13But I had to ask myself.
17:14I had to.
17:15You know.
17:15Go through it.
17:16And connect with God.
17:17And ask myself.
17:19Listen.
17:21You're far to turn around.
17:22You're not going to let evilness overcome.
17:26It's impossible.
17:28Because that is not what God is.
17:31There's no way that he's going to let.
17:33Some evilness destroy.
17:36And try to shake up what we got going on here.
17:39Absolutely not.
17:40So I had to like get myself together.
17:42So.
17:42Here we are back.
17:45Focusing on this vitality.
17:47And I knew.
17:48That once I named this.
17:50Series.
17:51And this season.
17:52Vitality.
17:52I was going to go through it.
17:54Because I've been tested.
17:55Ever since I put that name on there.
17:57Because that's what it's about.
17:59It's your energy.
17:59It's your life force.
18:01And.
18:02People come after it.
18:04They'll try to destroy you.
18:05They'll try to bring you down.
18:06They'll try to.
18:07Make you.
18:08Less than.
18:09Because they can see your light.
18:11They can see it.
18:12They can sense it.
18:13And they fear it.
18:16So.
18:17In any case.
18:19I'm up.
18:19I'm ready to sample this.
18:21Barefoot Sangria.
18:22And get right on into this episode tonight.
18:26Ready to speak to my friend.
18:27Author poet.
18:28Birdman 313.
18:30But.
18:30Before we get into this.
18:31We got this Barefoot Sangria.
18:33It says that it has tasty notes of berries.
18:36And citrus.
18:37And you can enjoy this with some fish tacos.
18:39Or frozen yogurt.
18:40That's interesting.
18:42And.
18:43We're going to get into this.
18:44This is 11.
18:46Let me see what this is.
18:4611 percent.
18:48So.
18:50There will be a day.
18:52I'm just putting it out there.
18:54There will be a day when I.
18:56Hang up.
18:57Reading between the wands.
18:59There will be a day.
19:00I don't know when that day will come.
19:02Um.
19:03Not every episode do I feel like sampling wine.
19:05I'm just keeping it real.
19:07So.
19:08When I say that it may end.
19:10It might end the note where I just hang up the wine portion of it.
19:13But we still on rock.
19:14You know.
19:15We'll change it to Wisdom Wednesday.
19:17I have.
19:17I have to go and pray on that.
19:19Because I've been going back and forth with it.
19:21Um.
19:22Because.
19:23Let's keep it real.
19:24I'm not going to be sampling wine.
19:26Every single week.
19:28Some weeks.
19:28I just don't feel like drinking wine.
19:30But.
19:31I'm here.
19:32Right now.
19:33So.
19:33We good.
19:34So.
19:344-on-1 podcast.
19:36Reading between the wines.
19:37Is not going anywhere.
19:38But.
19:39You know.
19:40If he.
19:41Puts it on my heart.
19:43To make some changes.
19:44We might just shift the titles.
19:46And the names.
19:46And all of that good stuff.
19:47But.
19:48We do have a great thing going on here right now.
19:51And some great.
19:52Guests that are coming on.
19:54The show.
19:55So.
19:55Um.
19:56I want to say thank you all so much.
19:58For that.
20:00Thank you for tuning in.
20:01And thank you for another.
20:03Great episode.
20:04Of reading between the wines.
20:06Because we're going to go on tonight.
20:07So I want to say cheers.
20:09Thank you so much.
20:12Thank you so much.
20:16Oh yeah.
20:17This is good.
20:18This is good.
20:21Nice and chilled.
20:24On a hot summer day.
20:25Which it has been around here lately.
20:27Yeah.
20:28This will do it.
20:29I like this.
20:33Much needed.
20:34Much needed.
20:34I also think that this would be great.
20:37You can turn this into a little wine spritzer too.
20:39You get you a little.
20:40Um.
20:43Seltzer.
20:43Or some club soda.
20:46Maybe even.
20:48Depending on how you want to do it.
20:50A Sprite.
20:50Or ginger ale.
20:52You could turn this into a wine spritzer.
20:56All right.
20:57So now it's time to go ahead.
20:58And bring in.
20:59Our special guest.
21:01Author.
21:01Poet.
21:02Birdman 313.
21:06313.
21:18What's going on?
21:19What's going on?
21:21Hey.
21:21How's it going?
21:23It's going good.
21:25It's going good.
21:26I can't complain.
21:28How are you doing?
21:30I'm doing good, man.
21:33Doing good.
21:34You know.
21:35Y'all still out and about?
21:38No.
21:39No.
21:39No.
21:39No.
21:39Oh, no.
21:40I'm not down in Galveston now.
21:42No, man.
21:43It's bad down there.
21:46You know.
21:47It's just.
21:48The storm is getting ready to hit there.
21:52It hasn't yet.
21:54So we came back.
21:56We actually came back Sunday afternoon.
22:00Or Sunday evening.
22:03Okay.
22:03Okay.
22:04We knew.
22:04No.
22:05We knew that.
22:06Well.
22:06When we was down there.
22:08When we got up there Sunday.
22:10You could tell the difference.
22:13You could tell the big difference.
22:15In the waves.
22:17And everything.
22:18So, you know.
22:19It was.
22:20Which we.
22:20We was coming back Sunday anyway.
22:22But we could tell the big difference.
22:24And.
22:25I always go out and take pictures.
22:28And shoot some videos.
22:29On Sundays.
22:30And you could tell.
22:32That the waves had picked up.
22:35So.
22:36So y'all had.
22:39Yeah.
22:39Well.
22:40We was going to come back anyway.
22:41On Sunday.
22:42But.
22:43It's just that.
22:43You know.
22:44That's how we.
22:44We always plan it.
22:46We just go down there.
22:47And stay Friday.
22:48And Saturday.
22:49You know.
22:50And then come back.
22:51On a Sunday.
22:54Yeah.
22:55That was.
22:55The pictures look nice.
22:56Everything look great.
22:58Oh yeah.
22:59It was.
22:59It was nice.
23:00You know.
23:01Don't get me wrong.
23:01You know.
23:02Some of the pictures.
23:03Was taken straight from the hotel room.
23:05What we stayed in.
23:07You know.
23:08Because.
23:08That's why I like that hotel so much.
23:10Because it faces the ocean.
23:12All rooms there.
23:14Faces the ocean.
23:15That's amazing.
23:16Yeah.
23:16Ain't nothing like ocean front.
23:19It ain't nothing like.
23:21It's staring out.
23:23Looking at the ocean.
23:26Yeah.
23:26You know.
23:27And so.
23:27Hey.
23:28We're back.
23:28And I just been playing around with some.
23:31Some videos.
23:33And.
23:34That's about it.
23:35And.
23:36Doing a little writing here.
23:38But.
23:38Been really doing some meditating.
23:40And playing my bass guitar a little bit more.
23:43I didn't do it today.
23:44And getting my exercise in.
23:46You know.
23:47Just.
23:48Doing all them things.
23:49And taking care of other little business.
23:51That popped up.
23:52And you know.
23:53All of a sudden.
23:55Mm-hmm.
23:56Don't I know.
23:57Don't I know.
24:00So.
24:00You said the weather's changing.
24:02It's getting ready to storm up there.
24:04Yeah.
24:05Man.
24:05I mean.
24:06It's.
24:07Let's see what it is.
24:08That tropical storm.
24:10It's.
24:10Coming through.
24:11Arthur.
24:13Oh.
24:13It's coming.
24:14You know.
24:15I'm surprised.
24:16You ain't heard about that.
24:17Yeah.
24:18It's coming through here.
24:20We've been.
24:20For the last two days.
24:22Man.
24:22It's been.
24:23It's been flooded.
24:24In the northern part of Houston.
24:26Where we at.
24:27We.
24:28We didn't.
24:28That's one thing about this area here.
24:31Doesn't get flood.
24:32Thank God for that.
24:33We don't get flooded.
24:34We just got a lot of rain.
24:36Man.
24:36The grass is all.
24:38Almost up to my knees.
24:39Now.
24:40Cause we can't cut it.
24:42Oh.
24:42Cause it's so wet.
24:44Yes.
24:45That's craziness.
24:47Well.
24:47You better watch.
24:48There might be some gators out there.
24:49If it's up that high.
24:50I ain't worried about that.
24:51Ain't enough water.
24:53For them to come over here.
24:56Gators.
24:57And snakes might be in there.
24:59And I don't like that.
25:00No.
25:00No.
25:00Okay.
25:01You don't like the snakes.
25:03No.
25:04Absolutely not.
25:05No.
25:05No.
25:06Yeah.
25:06Now you're talking.
25:07Yeah.
25:08Yeah.
25:09Spiders.
25:10Yeah.
25:11Now rodents.
25:12Now I'm good.
25:13Cause I got.
25:14I was actually.
25:16What was it?
25:16Last week.
25:17A week before last man.
25:18I went.
25:19You know.
25:19Opened the gate.
25:20Cause we have.
25:20We have our.
25:21We have our vehicles behind the gate.
25:23And I opened the gate.
25:25And I.
25:25I'm.
25:26I was opening it for Diana to pull in.
25:28Cause she drove that day.
25:30And.
25:32I.
25:32You know.
25:33I.
25:33I keep forgetting.
25:34You know.
25:34This.
25:35The ants are so bad out here.
25:37But you couldn't see them.
25:38Cause the grass is so high.
25:39I stepped in the grass.
25:41Man.
25:41I had to come out.
25:42I had to come out.
25:43My shoes.
25:44Man.
25:44Cause.
25:45It was so many of them.
25:46And she ended up.
25:47Had to wash my shoes.
25:48Oh.
25:49Man.
25:50That many.
25:52Yeah.
25:53Yeah.
25:53You know what I would have done?
25:56I would have went on a.
25:58What would we do?
25:58I would have went on a stomping spree.
26:00I would have ran to the first part of concrete.
26:02That I possibly could get.
26:04And I would have just went stomping up a storm.
26:06They wouldn't have lasted that long.
26:09Yeah.
26:09Well.
26:09I did that.
26:10And I put a bunch of.
26:12You know.
26:13I put alcohol.
26:14Man.
26:14I bathed in the alcohol.
26:15Cause.
26:16Hey man.
26:16They had.
26:16They had got me really good.
26:18Then they got her the other day.
26:20So.
26:20You know.
26:20We had to be careful.
26:22Stepping in the grass out here.
26:24Now.
26:24Let me ask you a question.
26:25There's two different types of ants.
26:27There's the tiny ones.
26:28Or is it the big ones?
26:29Now.
26:29Which ones was it?
26:31It was the tiny ones.
26:33Oh.
26:34Well.
26:34That's good.
26:34Cause them big ones ain't no joke.
26:36Not great ants.
26:37It's little black ants.
26:39Yeah.
26:39Little black ants.
26:40You know.
26:41But you know.
26:42I mean.
26:42A lot of times you can see the ant beds.
26:45But this time.
26:45I couldn't even see it.
26:47Cause like I said.
26:47The grass is so high.
26:48I was worried more.
26:50I was like.
26:50Okay.
26:51I'm gonna.
26:51I'm gonna step and put.
26:52Put this down.
26:53So.
26:54You know.
26:54For the gate.
26:56And.
26:57I worry about the mosquitoes.
26:59Cause you know.
26:59Mosquitoes is bad down here too now.
27:02Oh.
27:03Speaking of mosquitoes.
27:04This is interesting.
27:06We gotta.
27:06We gotta move on after this.
27:08But did you know.
27:10That they are going to release.
27:13Millions.
27:14Of.
27:16Sterile.
27:17Mosquitoes.
27:18Yeah.
27:20They say that that is supposed to help the.
27:24Population control of the mosquitoes.
27:25The breeding and all of that other stuff.
27:28That's cool.
27:29You got.
27:29You got your little.
27:30Little.
27:31Things that you're gonna come up with.
27:33Or whatever.
27:33That might sound cool and all.
27:35But for us.
27:36The human beings that are gonna be out there.
27:39If.
27:40If we.
27:40If we had enough.
27:41Misses to begin with.
27:42What do you think the effect is gonna be.
27:44When you put millions.
27:46Of.
27:47Sterile mosquitoes out there.
27:48So we swatting.
27:49And we get crazy over mosquitoes to begin with.
27:51Or we're really gonna be over it.
27:53Because you don't know what's real and what's fake.
27:55Come on.
27:57Yeah.
27:58That's craziness.
28:01Anyway.
28:03I don't understand that one.
28:05And I got my own.
28:06Conspiracy theories behind that.
28:08But.
28:09Yeah.
28:11What.
28:12Number you got for us tonight.
28:15Let me try.
28:1699.
28:19Not.
28:19Oh.
28:20Okay.
28:2099.
28:20We're gonna write to it.
28:22All right.
28:23I wonder if we did this one.
28:25Before we spoke about IRAs.
28:28Before.
28:29Let's see what kind of.
28:31Situation we don't get in tonight.
28:34Make your IRA rollover.
28:36A direct rollover.
28:38You can open an IRA rollover account.
28:40At any discount brokerage form.
28:42Or mutual fund company.
28:44The paperwork is not hard at all.
28:46And a company you decide.
28:47To do business with.
28:49Is going to be eager.
28:50To help you move your money.
28:51The one crucial step.
28:53Is to check the box.
28:54On your rollover application.
28:56For a direct rollover.
28:58What this means.
28:59Is that you will never touch.
29:01Money yourself.
29:03With a direct rollover.
29:04The discount brokerage.
29:06Or mutual fund company.
29:07You are going to open.
29:08Your IRA account with.
29:10Will contact your old employer.
29:12And arrange for the money.
29:14To be sent.
29:15Directly into your new account.
29:17Why go this way.
29:18Because if you.
29:20Instead have the money.
29:21Sent to you.
29:22You must then.
29:23Get it reinvested.
29:25In an IRA.
29:26Or tax.
29:27Or other tax deferred.
29:28Retirement account.
29:29Within 60 days.
29:31Now we getting into.
29:32The good stuff.
29:32If you fail to do that.
29:34You will owe.
29:35Income tax.
29:36On the entire.
29:37Withdrawal amount.
29:38And potentially.
29:38A 10% withdrawal fee.
29:40As well.
29:41Absolutely not.
29:42A direct rollover.
29:44Is the only way to go.
29:45I know that's right.
29:46What do you feel.
29:47About that bird man.
29:51Yeah.
29:52You know.
29:52I mean.
29:53That is because.
29:56A lot of the issues.
29:57You don't have to worry about.
29:59Because you have so much.
30:00Going on in your life.
30:03That you sometimes.
30:04Some of the things.
30:05Like that.
30:05You don't have time.
30:06And you don't think about it.
30:08Until it's too late.
30:08Oh.
30:09And then when it's too late.
30:10You going to be highly upset.
30:12When you get hit.
30:13With that tax.
30:14Fee.
30:16And then.
30:16Check this out.
30:17You get hit.
30:18With the tax fee.
30:20And you don't even realize it.
30:21Right.
30:22Because you missed.
30:23The 60 day.
30:24Guideline.
30:25So then you put the money.
30:27Right.
30:27Into.
30:29Your IRA.
30:30Or your new IRA.
30:31Your new.
30:32Tax deferred account.
30:33So it's locked up already.
30:35Then you sit down.
30:36And you go and do your tax.
30:39Paperwork.
30:39In April.
30:41And then you get slapped in the face.
30:42Because you realize.
30:43That you missed the deadline.
30:45And now you owe.
30:46All of this money.
30:47To the powers that be.
30:49And now your money is locked up.
30:51So you can't even pay them.
30:52Out of the money that you took out.
30:54Because it's locked up again.
30:55So the only way to fix that.
30:58Is to go ahead.
30:59And take it out.
31:00And get hit again.
31:01Yeah.
31:02That could be a whole situation.
31:04Yeah.
31:04Nah.
31:05Yeah.
31:05We good on that.
31:07Be careful people.
31:07Again.
31:08This is not financial advice.
31:10I'm not a financial advisor.
31:11Or a planner.
31:12Please do your own due diligence.
31:13But yeah.
31:15That one was a real.
31:15Real message right there.
31:20All right.
31:21So.
31:22Let's get into tonight's assignment.
31:25You ready to go to my home.
31:27State.
31:28And good old.
31:29New Jersey.
31:32Oh yeah.
31:32We're heading over to Atlantic City.
31:34New Jersey.
31:35You know.
31:35You got to be careful going to AC.
31:37Because the money was missing.
31:39The money wasn't missing.
31:40But I was.
31:41So.
31:42All right.
31:43We're going to help out Mr. Marcus from Atlantic City, New Jersey.
31:48Marcus says.
31:49I didn't start gambling because I wanted to get rich.
31:52I started because I wanted to feel something different.
31:54Two years ago my marriage ended.
31:56Not dramatically.
31:57No affair.
31:58No huge fight.
31:59We just slowly became strangers living in the same house.
32:03After the divorce.
32:04The silence in my apartment was loud.
32:06I get off of work.
32:07Eat dinner alone.
32:08And stare at the walls.
32:09One night a co-worker invited me to the casino.
32:12I won a few hundred dollars.
32:14For the first time in months I felt excited.
32:17Not happy.
32:18Excited.
32:19There was a difference.
32:21Suddenly I had something to anticipate.
32:23Somewhere to go.
32:24People to be around.
32:25Before long.
32:26I wasn't going for the entertainment anymore.
32:28I was going for escape.
32:30Some nights I'd leave ahead.
32:31Most nights I wouldn't.
32:33The problem wasn't the money at first.
32:35The problem was the story I kept telling myself.
32:38One good night and I'll catch up.
32:40One good hit and I'll pay everything off.
32:42One good weekend and I'll finally get ahead.
32:44Instead I accumulated credit card debt.
32:47Drained my emergency fund.
32:49And spent months chasing losses that never wanted to be found.
32:54Last week I reviewed my finances.
32:57What shocked me wasn't how much money I'd lost.
33:00It was how much time I lost.
33:03Time I could have spent healing.
33:05Time I could have spent rebuilding.
33:06Time I spent looking for relief in places that were never designed to provide it.
33:12I'm finally getting honest with myself.
33:15The money wasn't the real issue.
33:18Loneliness was.
33:19Grief was.
33:21Avoidance was.
33:22How do you rebuild trust in yourself after you spent years running from what actually hurt?
33:29Maurice.
33:31What you got for me?
33:34Man, there's so much contradiction in this.
33:41What you mean?
33:42I'm trying to figure out where I'm going to start at because he said after two years, he didn't have
33:50time to think within that two year period.
33:54That's what lost me right there in some ways.
33:57I'm like, well, within two years.
33:59I mean, I know grief of a marriage can can last long, but it shouldn't stung him.
34:07Well, I shouldn't say that because I don't know how the guy felt, you know, but two years.
34:14He should have.
34:15He should have almost been over it.
34:19And, you know, I it's hard for me to explain that part, you know, to say to him, I'm two
34:27years, man.
34:28You didn't you couldn't you didn't you couldn't get yourself together.
34:32And then he keeps saying it's not the money.
34:36But then again, it is gambling is an addiction that I don't care if you marry, if you happy, if
34:44you single, if you happy.
34:45Gambling is bad for any and everybody that don't know how to control.
34:53Yeah.
34:54You know, the two years difference, I would say, see, this is why it's very important to make sure you
35:00take time to heal.
35:02You can't heal if you're stuck in the past.
35:05And I have dealt with several people where we try to move forward and confidence and we have a good
35:11conversation, but they keep going backwards and they keep going backwards and they keep reminiscing on the past.
35:17So if you stay looking backwards, you can't see where you're going forward.
35:21So that's exactly what I get out of this of why in two years there was no healing, because when
35:28the time I'm spent alone, what is your mind doing?
35:32Is your mind thinking of the future or is it stuck in the past?
35:35And it sounds like he was just rehearsing, replaying those same sad broken records over and over and over again.
35:42Right. And, you know, like I said, you know, gambling, it can be an addiction and also could be fun.
35:49Don't get me wrong, because we we were we haven't been traveling like you because, you know, been taking care
35:55of a lot of things around the house.
35:57But whenever we went, we always took I always took a certain amount.
36:03Diana took a certain amount. You know, I said, hey, this is all I'm going to spend when that runs
36:10out.
36:11I don't care how much time I had left. I'm done.
36:14And that was the discipline that I had for myself.
36:18And, you know, one time I got there and we had I mean, it was like, OK, it was the
36:26last day.
36:27So I said, oh, I don't mind spending what I have.
36:30I mean, but there's been times when I came home with a little change, too.
36:34But I didn't I didn't go crazy over it.
36:38He's. You know, I just went to have a good time.
36:43If I won, cool. If I lost, it was cool.
36:47I went there trying to get rich and what it sounds like really deep down inside.
36:52That's what he's trying to do is get rich.
36:55And you can't. Man, I don't care.
36:58You start gambling. You're not going to get rich.
37:01Not at all.
37:04You know, because you just keep putting you just going to keep putting money in money in.
37:10And guess what? You're going to get to a point where you think you're ahead,
37:16but you get married to lose it all at one time.
37:21I'll tell you that the rich and wealthy people, they don't gamble with their money and they don't go to
37:28casinos.
37:29I know some people think that investing money in the stock market can be a gamble, but that's their own
37:35personal beliefs.
37:36But when it comes to actually putting money in a slot machine or at the tables or anything like that,
37:42this is what I think about it.
37:45And that's a wrap on today's.
37:48It's a wrap. It's over.
37:50Absolutely not. Game over.
37:53Yeah, we don't do that.
37:57Yeah.
37:58I mean, most people know casinos are it's all set up.
38:07You know, and I know when I went, like, like I said, we went to Vegas a few times and
38:13my cousin, because one of my cousin, he worked security there for, oh, man, 25, 30 years.
38:19He was and he was like, hey, cuz, he said, don't get caught up, man.
38:24He said, it's all rigged.
38:26I said, no, no, no.
38:27And I told him how I did it.
38:28He said, OK, long, you're doing it like that, man.
38:31He said, it's cool.
38:33They have some of the best furniture, the best decor.
38:40If you go to Vegas, they got the light shows.
38:43They got all of the replicas of the Eiffel Tower.
38:48They got all kinds.
38:50Yeah.
38:50Who do you think paying for that?
38:54The ones that come there and lose their money.
38:57Exactly.
38:58Exactly.
38:59But see, but see, like I said, we went there for more than just gambling.
39:05That was always our thing.
39:06We took tours, you know, when we went there.
39:11It wasn't just to go there to gamble.
39:13We went to concerts.
39:15We went to comedy shows.
39:17We took tours.
39:19So we had something to do where we weren't just sitting around listening to the slot machine all night long.
39:26Yeah, that's something else.
39:29You know, like, you know, we visited, you know, three of the deserts out there.
39:35We took tours.
39:37That's what we did.
39:37Took the tours to two of them.
39:39And then the other one, a friend of mine that's out there, he took us to this one desert and,
39:45you know, and I got a chance to take some pictures, some videos, and then we came on back.
39:52And then, you know, and that's it.
39:54Or we go to concerts out there.
39:56That's mostly what we was going there for was really the concerts, you know, and then, you know, like I
40:04said, comedy shows.
40:06And now I'm good friends with one of the comedians.
40:09He was out there for 10 years.
40:11He had a residence out there for 10 years.
40:15Now he left and he's gone back to California.
40:19Okay.
40:20And me and him, we stay in touch, you know, actually we was talking the other night, you know, on
40:26Instagram.
40:29So, you know, like I said, if you are going there just to gamble, then yes, you're going to get
40:37in trouble because you're going to lose your money.
40:41I think that a lot of this, the loneliness, the grief, the avoidance, and you say that money wasn't the
40:49real issue.
40:50It probably wasn't.
40:51You had the money, but you didn't do the right thing with it.
40:54So then it did become an issue.
40:57Some counseling, some counseling, some counseling.
41:02Right.
41:03And, you know, the fact, you know, to me, it's like, okay, dude, no one said that, no one or
41:09you haven't spoken to anybody about what you should do with your, with your time.
41:16Like you said, counseling.
41:18Yeah.
41:19Now he's a good candidate for getting to be in council because he need to find something else to do
41:24besides just going to the casino.
41:28What is that thing where they say the idle mind is a, is a terrible thing to waste or order
41:35devil's workshop or something like that?
41:37You ever heard that?
41:38Yes.
41:39Yes.
41:39Because this, oh yeah, I heard it all.
41:41This is exactly what it is.
41:42You got all this time on your hands.
41:44You don't know who you are.
41:45And I know that that sounds terrible, but that happens to a lot of people who spend years inside of
41:51a relationship, a marriage, and even some friendships that go by the way.
41:57Side, once they end, you were so wrapped up and trapped up into that other human being that once you
42:03get by yourself, you got all this time and you don't know what to do because you've lost yourself.
42:08So you need to find out who you are.
42:11Yes.
42:13And you know what?
42:14That's why I always say, I'm so glad, thank God, that I always fell back on music and writing.
42:23What got me was, I heard someone say one time, they said, find something that you can do that even
42:33when you get old and retired, that you can still do it without it costing you.
42:40And when they said that, I'm like, okay, then.
42:43And I'm like, let me get back into my writing, you know, and I said, let me get back to
42:49listening to my music.
42:51And then that's what really kept me afloat was, you know, things like that.
42:56And like I said, you know, I've, I've gone to a lot of play, I've gone to plays, you know,
43:03I've gone to a lot of just gone and sit in a club and listen to spoken word or watch
43:13the play or listen to people just sit down and talk.
43:16And I always found that very helpful for me.
43:20Like I said, I found this for me.
43:22Everybody, I know everybody would probably frown up when I say that because they'd be like, oh, that ain't for
43:28me.
43:28You know, that ain't for me.
43:29Yeah, you're right.
43:30It's not.
43:30But that's what kept me afloat.
43:33Exactly.
43:34Yeah.
43:35What works for you works for you.
43:37And what works for somebody else may not work for you.
43:40Yeah, I agree with that.
43:42Exactly.
43:42Exactly.
43:43You know, so that was that.
43:45Like I said, when I when people and I tell that people know that I'm like, hey, this is what
43:50worked for me.
43:51I can't say it's going to work for you, but it worked for me.
43:54And that's why I'm so into my music.
43:58I'm so, you know, a lot of people, hey, man, you know, a lot about music.
44:01How come this, this and that?
44:03And I said, well, there's a lot of reasons, you know, you know, and the number one thing about music
44:11is if you're not marketable, you know, you can forget about trying to make it.
44:17And a lot of people, a lot of people don't realize that you got to be marketable for to really
44:23make it.
44:24You got to come with something that somebody else is not doing.
44:29Yeah, there's a lot of copycats out there.
44:33Right.
44:34And just like that's why I think there's a lot of people that do like my poetry because they they
44:40people expect me being, you know, six, four and a half black man.
44:46They expect me to come up there screaming and holler.
44:49That's not the way it is.
44:51And then when I read the poem, they'd be like, wow, man, he read something that I wouldn't expect.
44:58He said he said, come up there screaming and hollering.
45:02And, you know, that that that reminds me so much of, you know, these pastors when they up there preaching.
45:11See, you just opened up a box and I'm going to shut up after this.
45:15But, uh, yeah, God didn't have to get up there and scream and yell.
45:20Jesus up there and scream and yell.
45:22These pastors, they think that the only way that they can get the message across.
45:28Will you really preach when you're screaming and yelling at somebody?
45:34Anyway, yeah, I'm off it.
45:36Yeah.
45:38So, so, but, you know, I mean, then he said, you know, it ain't about the money.
45:43But then he talked about how his credit cards is all out, you know, out of control.
45:48And, you know, and I'm like, wait a minute, man, you keep saying it's about the money.
45:51It is about the money.
45:53That is, it is, you know, you know, you keep, you know, because you keep, okay, you drain your emergency
46:01fund.
46:02No good.
46:03You know, spent months chasing losses that never wanted to be found.
46:07Credit card debt.
46:09That it is about the money, man.
46:11You know, you can sit there and he needs to really, I shouldn't say, I should say, he need to
46:17quit fooling himself.
46:19Cause that's all he doing.
46:23You know, that's all he's doing.
46:24I'm not going to say, I was going to say he need to keep lying to himself.
46:28He needs to keep fooling him.
46:30He, you know, he, he fooling himself.
46:31If it's not about the money.
46:35Yeah, there's a lot going on here.
46:36I say you need to understand and know who you are.
46:40Take some time for yourself.
46:43That's the problem.
46:44You haven't take time for yourself.
46:45When you did, you probably were thinking too much of what the past was, what your current situation was.
46:53And again, that's no good.
46:54When you stay looking behind, you can't see where you're going.
46:58And if, if it's tough, again, I'm not here to act like, you know, you know, I'm Superman or anything.
47:04I've been there before, but talk to somebody.
47:08Get some counseling.
47:10Yeah.
47:11Phone a friend that you can trust.
47:14Do something to where you're not staying stuck on what was, because you'll never get to where the heck you
47:22need to go.
47:23So, yeah.
47:24That's true.
47:25You know, I mean, yeah, I've been through it too.
47:27You know, don't get me wrong.
47:28I've been through it.
47:29And, you know, he, he said they grew, they grew away from each other.
47:35So it sounds like it.
47:36I can't understand.
47:38Yeah.
47:38It sounds like, it sounds like that's the easy transition.
47:40At least it wasn't like you saw her cheating or whatever.
47:46Right.
47:46You know, he said they grew, they just grew, you know.
47:50So if you grew away from each other, what is the problem?
47:53Yeah.
47:53And then he, and then he turned around and said, oh, it is him.
47:56Um, so I'll be, like I said, there was a lot of contradiction in this.
48:02And I mean, which I understand because we all do it.
48:06I mean, don't get me wrong.
48:08There was a period of time, but I'm trying to even think, man, I can't remember when, I know when
48:16my divorce came through, man, I went out with some coworkers.
48:19We went to, we went to this club.
48:21We went to this bar, this restaurant, rather.
48:23I sat up there, man, and they was like, you all right?
48:27I said, I'm fine.
48:27I said, I'm a free man.
48:30You know?
48:31And they was like, oh, okay, then we know that.
48:34You know, I'm like, I'm fine, you know?
48:36I didn't, you know, I didn't sit back and dwell.
48:39Listen, I did the same thing.
48:42And that was one of the worst nights ever.
48:44I came back getting sick all over the place.
48:48There was this song back in the day.
48:50I don't know who sung it, but I forgot what he was saying.
48:54It was this Jamaican joint where it was, oh, Red Bull.
48:59I don't know what he was saying.
49:01I'm drinking rum in Red Bull.
49:03Remember that joint?
49:04I don't know.
49:04But anyway, that was hot back in the day.
49:07Man, I kept, that song came on, and I went up to the bar and ordered, I'm drinking rum
49:15in Red Bull.
49:17Yeah, that was no good.
49:20No good.
49:21Yeah.
49:21Well, don't feel bad, because when I went out, I did have me some food, though.
49:26I ordered me some food, you know?
49:28I had brandy.
49:30That's what I was, you know, man, I was hitting that brandy, man.
49:33And then, you know, like I said, I got drunk.
49:38I went home, slept well, got up, went to work the next day.
49:42They looked at me.
49:43They said, you all right?
49:44I said, I'm fine.
49:45They said.
49:46And then the supervisor, she said, yep, he okay.
49:49You know?
49:50You know?
49:51I said, hey, I said, I already knew this was coming, so it didn't, I said, I'm not letting
49:58it bother me.
49:59Yeah.
50:00I'm going to have to look that up.
50:02I've got to look up that song.
50:03So, while I'm looking that up, go ahead and let people know what you got going on this
50:11week.
50:14You know what?
50:15This month, next month, I'm just taking it real light.
50:19I'm taking it real light.
50:23I probably, I'm going to steal right a little bit, you know?
50:26That's something I try not to do.
50:28I try to stay away because I want to get something new going.
50:33I always continue to write something somewhere and just be working on some videos.
50:39My books, of course, is at Amazon.com slash authors slash Birdman313.
50:55You can also go to my YouTube channel, which is YouTube.com slash author, poet, Birdman31355.
51:04You can find me on Instagram, where I've been posting pictures.
51:10I'm going to start posting a few videos this week of the trip down there.
51:15But the videos I posted, they're not going to have no poem to that.
51:20It's just a video.
51:21But I am putting something together, you know, because I did write about one area, that one
51:29that was Sunday, but I am going to do that.
51:33So that's about it.
51:35That's what's up.
51:37I appreciate you for joining.
51:39As always, you do a great job adding your insight.
51:45And we're going to have to get out of here.
51:46We got to pay some bills.
51:47I looked up the song.
51:50It was Rum and Red Bull, Beanie Man.
51:53Yeah.
51:55It's in 2006.
51:57I knew about the song, but I celebrated it in 2013.
52:03Good.
52:04Yeah.
52:04Yeah.
52:05Hey, have you ever heard Wayman Tisdale?
52:08No, I haven't.
52:11I'm going to look it up.
52:12Okay.
52:13He played jazz, a little bluesy jazz.
52:17He used to play in the NBA.
52:19I've seen that.
52:20I see that.
52:21Yeah.
52:22Yeah.
52:23He played it.
52:24He was a good player.
52:26He was a good player.
52:27And the whole time he was playing his music while he was playing basketball, on his off days,
52:37he would go to a studio.
52:38He had got him a studio, man.
52:41But he kept it all in the family when he passed away a few years ago.
52:47And, you know, but his brother, it's funny because his older brother was at Oklahoma when
52:54he was, his brother was his agent.
52:58His sister was his accountant.
53:01And I think it was another family member that had something to do with.
53:05He kept it in the family and there never was no discrepancy about his money.
53:10See, see, see, that's how you do it.
53:14You got to make sure you, you know, and he, but, but no, listen, listen to him, man.
53:20He has, he has some good music because, you know, you'll sit back and you'll say, oh, he's
53:25an ex-athlete, you wouldn't think his music is that good, but the brother can play the
53:31bass, man.
53:32He can play, he can play that bass guitar and his music is so smooth.
53:37I'm going to look it up.
53:38I'm going to look it up.
53:40Yeah.
53:40I see it.
53:41He got a good, uh, discography.
53:43He wasn't playing around.
53:44I'll tell you that much.
53:45I see all, see all the albums.
53:48All right.
53:49I'm going to look that up.
53:51Yeah.
53:51All right.
53:52Well, it is a wrap.
53:54I appreciate it.
53:55It's time to get on up out of here.
53:57And, um, listen, I'm going to go have me some rice and beans and, uh, take it on down.
54:07Some Spanish rice and beans.
54:08I appreciate that right about now.
54:11Yeah.
54:12I might get on another, um, podcast later.
54:15I haven't been there in a long time.
54:18It's just there was some things.
54:22And a lot of people just stopped going there because it was some things that was promised
54:26that they just couldn't fulfill.
54:29So, you know, I'm still cool.
54:32You know, man, me and her still cool.
54:34You know, I understand, you know, um, yeah.
54:39She promised to bring some of the people that she knew that, you know, like myself, like
54:43other people that did things, but it's always just the people from Hollywood.
54:48So, a lot of people that used to follow her when they realized they weren't going to get
54:54a shot at being on her podcast as a guest, they just moved on.
54:58You know, you can't compete with Hollywood, but.
55:02Yeah, you are.
55:06Yeah.
55:08I'll, I'll talk to you soon.
55:11Okay.
55:12Take care.
55:12Okay.
55:13Night.
55:13Good night.
55:14Hey, did you get my book?
55:15I haven't checked yet, but I will.
55:18I'll let you, I'll let you know.
55:20Okay.
55:21All right.
55:22Okay.
55:22All right.
55:23Take care now.
55:25Yeah, you too.
55:43Good night, good night, good night, y'all.
