03:55So grab your journal, open your mind, and prepare to go beyond the surface.
04:01Here, we don't just talk, we transform lives.
04:04And now, here's your guide through it all, entrepreneur, mentor, and financial coach, Laren Gaines.
04:24Welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome to another episode of the 411 Podcast.
05:01We are here.
05:03The 411 Podcast Movement.
05:05And I definitely want to say thank you so much.
05:07I see you.
05:08I see you out there.
05:09Good morning to the people out there on Facebook, Daily Motion, YouTube.
05:17What's up to the people out there on Kik, what's up to the people out there on Kik, I see
05:19y'all growing as well.
05:20So again, I definitely want to thank each and every one of you out there.
05:25I most certainly could have a lot of you out there on Kik, thank you, thank you for giving me
05:33the strength, thank you for giving me the strength, the courage, the wisdom, and the understanding through all of the
05:39ups, downs.
05:43Could not do it without him.
05:44And yeah, so we're here.
05:49Episode 35.
05:50She doesn't know about the storage unit.
05:54So here we go again, you know, with some of this secrecy.
05:59You know, it never really ends well, but we're going to find out tonight.
06:03And we're going to talk about, you know, just, I guess I want to say people who come from a
06:13scarcity mindset, whether it's hoarding, people want to call it cluttering.
06:19You know, I just can't.
06:22Today I can't.
06:23I used to, but I can't.
06:24I don't come from a scarcity mindset.
06:27And you can typically tell when people come from a scarcity mindset because they try to hold on to every
06:34last thing.
06:35They don't really know how to share.
06:38Think about, think back on your life.
06:41Were you a child that was able to easily share with people?
06:47Or were you somebody that I would say was stingy?
06:52You didn't want to share your toys with people.
06:54And that sort of is like an early, what do they say, telltale sign that you might experience some issues
07:05in the future.
07:06So if you see your children playing and they don't like to share, they usually cry and have a fit
07:13when someone, like, touches their belongings.
07:18You might want to dig into that a little bit and try to fix it, correct the situation.
07:26Because you might be raising a little hoarder, somebody who likes to keep a lot of clutter.
07:35And from somebody who used to be that way, I got a lot of experience with this type of situation.
07:42So, nonetheless, today, I'm a minimalist.
07:50Less is more for me.
07:51And there's a great lesson behind less is more.
07:56So, let's get into tonight's episode.
07:59I'm feeling very optimistic.
08:03That's a great song by Sounds of Blackness.
08:06So, we won't get into song of the day.
08:10Let's do it.
08:11Let's do it.
08:22Stressed Out.
08:251996.
08:27A Tribe Called Quest featuring Faith Evans.
08:30Shout out to Faith Evans, who now has her own street in Newark, New Jersey.
08:36Faith Evans Way.
08:40What are you stressed out about?
08:43You know, a lot of times, again, I'm no genius.
08:50I just lived long enough to see this.
08:54Sometimes, the things that we are stressed out, just because we have this mentality of thinking that we need to
09:03do everything, we need to be everything to everybody.
09:07And we take on a lot of extra things.
09:09And we take on a lot of extra things that, in reality, if we just sat back, if we just
09:13put it in God's powerful hands, and if we just moved in a direction that he'd like us to move
09:19in, we wouldn't be so stressed out.
09:22See, the enemy loves to, I guess, paint this picture of, if I have everything, and if I am everything,
09:35and if I jam up my schedule, and if I make it seem like I'm doing a lot, then I'm
09:41doing everything.
09:43And that's when we become stressed out, our schedules, our work that we decided to sign up for.
09:51We needed to have that promotion.
09:53We wanted this.
09:54We wanted that.
09:55These friendships, I want to go ahead and hang out with these people, so I'm going to overextend myself and
10:02therefore become stressed out.
10:05I want what somebody else has.
10:07See, check this out.
10:08You don't need it, but you want what somebody else has.
10:11And because you want what somebody else has, you racked up the extra credit card debt.
10:19You went ahead out there and got that student loan because you wanted to feel special because everybody else was
10:27doing it.
10:29You wanted to pull up in a nice brand new car because your neighbors had one, the people on the
10:39job had one, your friends have one.
10:44So therefore, you took on this extra debt, and now you are stressed out.
10:50See, nobody did it to you, but you did it to yourself.
10:54And a lot of times, people walk around being mad at the world when in reality, the only person that
11:02you should be mad at is with self because everything starts with self.
11:08So for the people out there who feel like they can't cope, they can't deal with it, they've had enough,
11:14I can't take it.
11:15You know, we put on all of these labels, and we claim to have all of these things such as
11:22anxiety and stress and you know what?
11:28Everything starts with self.
11:32When you start to peel back that onion and you start to get down into the real nitty gritty, you
11:39too will realize, and this is when you know you've made it, you too will realize that, hmm, ain't nobody
11:46do this to me.
11:48I did this to myself.
11:50I didn't have to sign up for this.
11:51I didn't have to try to get in where I could fit in.
11:55I didn't need to go ahead and insert myself into somebody else's nonsense, and now I'm going back and forth
12:02with this person and that person when I should have been basically just minding my own business.
12:07So are you really stressed out?
12:09And if you are stressed out, here's a rhetorical question.
12:14What is the real root cause of it?
12:17See, you might be mad at your spouse because they are not in lines and you're not in line with
12:25them, but in reality, why did you end up getting into that relationship in the first place?
12:32Because people will really show you who they are within the first three to six months, so you didn't see
12:37the red flags?
12:38I forgot.
12:40You thought that you can change somebody and make it better, right?
12:44I don't know who I'm speaking to.
12:46I'm only speaking from real life experiences, but yeah, I don't get stressed out today because, see, God says we
12:54don't need to worry about anything.
12:55Just let him handle it.
12:57So I got out the way a long time ago.
13:00Easier said than done.
13:02I know sometimes I still have to get with myself because it's so convenient to try to do things our
13:10way.
13:12Just like I talk about debt-free living, it's a beautiful thing when you have stress-free living because I
13:21got out the way.
13:23I don't need to fight this battle because I know that there's somebody more powerful, more bolder, and better than
13:30I am, and God can handle all situations far way better than I can.
13:36Song of the day, Stressed Out, A Tribe Called Quest, featuring Faith Evans, released in 1996.
13:46How are y'all feeling out there tonight?
13:58I have a couple real quick announcements.
14:01So you might notice that there's little things different around here on this Good Wisdom Wednesday.
14:09I will be doing a final episode of Reading Between the Wines next month.
14:14It will be live with my special guest, author, poet, Burrman313.
14:21I will be sampling my last bottle of wine as we move and transition into just simply the 4-in
14:29-1 podcast.
14:30It originally started in August 27, 2020, so we're coming up on the six-year anniversary, and it just makes
14:42much more sense for me to move in this direction.
14:48There's a lot of things that are happening behind the scenes that will enhance and move us all to the
14:54next level.
14:55So I want it to be absolutely clear as far as the direction and as far as the information that
15:01I'm putting out there in the atmosphere.
15:04So this is for each and every one of you.
15:07And remember, when I minister to you, I'm ministering to myself.
15:10I have a calling to be—I basically have a calling to elevate to the next level.
15:20And this was a big move that I needed to do in order to get to the next level and
15:24have a clear, precise message across the board, across all social media platforms, across everything, layering gains, Black Diamond Consultation.
15:37So new show coming.
15:41Same conversation, which will obviously lead us down the path of financial wellness.
15:46And I'm super excited, a lot of behind-the-scenes things, and it's amazing.
15:53So I'm here for the mission, and this is my purpose, and we're here.
16:00And I want to say thank you all for sticking with me during the journey.
16:05And on that note, let's go ahead and bring in my special guest, Mr. Birdman313.
16:30What's—what's—
16:30Hey, how's it going?
16:33It's going.
16:34It's going.
16:35It's going.
16:35What's good with you?
16:36You know, it is what it is, man.
16:40You know.
16:43I'm hoping that you're going to bring some of this nice weather, my wife.
16:46Oh, you can have it.
16:47You can definitely have it, man.
16:51It's been—man, it's been brutal here.
16:56It's been a'ight.
16:57It's been a'ight here, 79, 80.
17:00It's a'ight.
17:00We ain't seen 79—we don't even see that at 7 o'clock in the morning, man.
17:05It's—it's—it's starting off at 80 on up.
17:10It was in the 50s this morning.
17:12I put my heat on this morning.
17:13Oh, man.
17:15It's—it's like—with the—with the heat index, man, it's like 100.
17:20Every—it's been like that.
17:22Except for the days it rained.
17:24But now the Sahara dust is coming through, and that's just going to make it even worse, man.
17:30It started—the Sahara dust, they said it's here, but it's really thin.
17:36And we went—we went out to the park today and, you know, did a little walking.
17:41Took some pictures of some—some baby alligator—a baby alligator that we spotted in a spot that
17:47I have never seen an alligator over—not even a big one over in that area.
17:54And we just was out enjoying.
17:57I had to take my—one of my computers, the one I do my videos.
18:01And we had to take it because I couldn't get on the internet.
18:04And they could—we tried to remote because, you know, if you know how to do—if you do
18:10know how to follow the instructions, you don't have to go in.
18:13You can just do it remote.
18:14And they couldn't get through, so I had to take it in.
18:17And, you know, that's about it, man.
18:20Got her vehicle washed, you know.
18:24And, hey, man, now we're back here, and I'm just chilling, man, sitting behind the air conditioner.
18:31No, that's it.
18:33Yeah.
18:34No, we don't do AAC over here.
18:37Oh.
18:38I'm good.
18:39Ooh.
18:39We—yeah, I can understand that, man, because I talk to my cousins, and they be saying the
18:46same thing, you know, so I'm like, they say, well, you got that heat down there.
18:49I say, yes, I do.
18:50You want some of it?
18:52I'll be glad to send it to you.
18:54That's funny.
18:55You said you saw an alligator in a spot that you normally never seen one.
19:01You know, sometimes God will send you a message to say, you better, you know, back up a little
19:07bit, son.
19:08Oh, trust me.
19:08I was looking around, because, you know, they always said, wherever the baby is, guaranteed
19:15the mom or the dad.
19:16Well, the other alligator, which we figured, now I figured that's the dad alligator, he
19:23sits, he props himself right up on the bridge, and it's a nest right in there as you cross
19:30over the bridge, and this one here is farther down, and like I said, you know, it was surprising
19:38and we was walking back, coming back over the bridge, and I was, you know, taking pictures,
19:44and I looked, I'm like, hey, look at this right here, and Diana kept, she didn't even
19:49see it.
19:50See, see, no, I'm good, I'm good.
19:52You know, and I'm like, I said, right there, right there, and then she looked, and she said,
19:56well, because like I said, normally, you don't see that alligator there.
20:00He's normally down farther, like up under the bridge, or he's way down, the creek is long.
20:06It's one of the longest creeks, you know, here, and he's normally in the very wooded
20:13area.
20:14At this time, like in the, he was different, man, you know, he was kind of like out in
20:20the open, where people could walk over this smaller bridge, and I'm like, well, if he
20:26right there, the mama gotta be somewhere in them bushes that's right here, which is very
20:33close.
20:33I think people need more alligators, they'd be on the menu when you move, you know, towards
20:41south.
20:42It's unbelievable that they're not all over the menu, and up here, I think that deer should
20:52be on the menu, because between up north here, the amount of cars that get into accidents,
20:59and people get killed by deer, I'm not an expert, but I would think that there's a lot
21:06of issues with alligators attacking people and biting people towards your area.
21:12You know, man, alligator, man, the restaurants down here, they do have them, and my, you know,
21:20Michael, my son, he be saying, oh, dad, I gotta, I gotta, he said, I gotta, you know,
21:24in San Antonio, he said, I gotta find me a restaurant, they got me some Gatoran, and I
21:28said, dude, this should be a bunch of them, because, you know, we're here in Houston, because
21:33we're so close to Louisiana, and, you know, that has a lot to do with it, where we, we
21:40find Gator meat, you know, easily, and deer meat, too, don't get me wrong, we got both
21:46of it here.
21:47Oh, okay.
21:48And, hey, man, I love me some Gator, oh, I do, man, I love me some Gator.
21:53I've never had it before, I almost tried it years ago, but now I'm a pescatarian, so that
22:01will not happen, and I just don't like him, even if I did eat meat today, I don't
22:05even think I would mess with him.
22:07My uncle, well, one of my uncles, before he passed away, my mom's brother, he used to,
22:14he used to always throw a barbecue, and he would say, hey, y'all go in there and get,
22:19fix your plate.
22:19We go in there and fix our plate, and I love for guilt, my sons, they was like, they
22:25said, hey, uncle, what type of, what type of meat is that?
22:27And he said, either you get it and you eat it, or don't say nothing at all.
22:32So they got it, and they eat it, and he walked over to him and started laughing.
22:37He said, so how you like that Gator?
22:39Yeah, see, see, yeah, uh-huh.
22:41See, that's that old school stuff.
22:43That's that old school stuff.
22:44They didn't tell you what's in it.
22:46And Michael said, well, hey, can I go get me some more?
22:49He said, go here, Birdman.
22:51He said the same thing.
22:53He said, man, this Gator, good.
22:54Look, he said, hey, that's him and his friend.
22:57That's what they used to do when they barbecued.
23:00They had more Gator than they did any other meat that was there.
23:05And, man, I'm letting you know, man, when people left, there was no Gator left.
23:12My sister was telling me that there's some restaurant in some other country that they'll put the whole Gator on
23:18the table just like that, and you just pick from it and eat it like that.
23:22Oh, no, no, no, no.
23:23And you know what I have to say about that?
23:25If I'm going to sit there at a restaurant and they put this whole big old Gator on top of
23:30the table and everybody sit down around it, just imagine that.
23:33And in the middle of the table, taking up the whole table, there's nothing but a big old Gator.
23:38And then people sit there and they take their fork and plates and they eat from it like that.
23:43What I have to say about that is this.
23:47Yeah, I know what you mean.
23:49Absolutely not.
23:51Well, there was a restaurant we used to go to right down the street from us.
23:56They closed up.
23:58Every time we went there, that's what we would order was always Gator.
24:04I'm good.
24:05Yeah.
24:06I don't even like talking about it, but for the people out there who like it, that's fine.
24:11It's good, man.
24:13Like I said, man, I eat me some Gator in a heartbeat.
24:19All right.
24:20So what do we have here tonight?
24:24What number you got for us tonight?
24:26Oh, let me see.
24:2877.
24:3077.
24:36All right.
24:39All right.
24:40Let's go with this here.
24:42Factor in the cost of selling.
24:45The single biggest expense when you sell, we're talking about a home.
24:52It's likely the sales commission you will owe.
24:55Sellers pay 100% of the commission, which is typically 6%.
25:00But there can be many other expenses, such as state and local transfer taxes, staging expenses, sprucing up the home,
25:10which is going to be paint, cleaning up the yard, and hiring the movers.
25:15That can push the total cost of selling to 10% or so to the final sale price.
25:22Factor in your potential net profit or loss before you miss.
25:26So if you can, it can help you decide whether you want to sell right now or how big of
25:35a down payment you might be able to make on your next home.
25:38So for those of you out there getting ready to sell your home, please make sure you do your research
25:44and your own due diligence.
25:46Because it seems like the people who make out the best are the real estate listing agents.
25:54But they do get paid decent.
25:58What do you think about that?
26:01I've never sold a home, so I have no answer for that.
26:05I feel you on that one.
26:07The only thing I have to say is that, listen, if you get put into a home and you get
26:11into a mortgage that you have no business getting into in the first place, you'll be so lucky to sell
26:16that home.
26:17You won't even know what to do.
26:19Yeah.
26:20Just leave it at that.
26:22But there's a right place in time for owning a home.
26:26And a lot of people think that they need to own a home because of the lie that people have
26:33been sold thinking that home ownership is the best thing out there.
26:38When in reality, maybe you probably should have been renting before you decided to go ahead and buy that home
26:44because you weren't clearly out of debt.
26:47And I just want to say that you don't really own the home until you make that last payment.
26:54That's true.
26:55That I say, do you own your home?
26:57And people say, yeah, I own my home.
26:59But in reality, no, you don't.
27:01Because if you still have a mortgage, you don't own that home.
27:05The bank.
27:07Well, you know, everybody has a dream.
27:09So, hey, you know, dreaming about owning.
27:12Hey, that's good.
27:14Good to know.
27:16Yes.
27:17Dream big and dream wisely.
27:20Yeah.
27:21If that's even if that even makes any sense.
27:23I just made that up.
27:26Just make sure you're dreaming about the right thing.
27:29Oh, yeah.
27:31All right.
27:32So we go on to Missouri.
27:34Have you ever been to Missouri?
27:36Yes, I have.
27:37I've been to Branson, Missouri, and I drove through St. Louis.
27:41I've been to St. Louis.
27:43We used to go through St. Louis when we went, you know, back in the old days.
27:48And then when I took the bus to Michigan one time, we stopped there for a couple of hours.
27:56And, you know, we hung out there in St. Louis until the next bus came through and was ready to
28:03pull out.
28:04So, all right.
28:07So we helping out Mr. Gregory from Kansas City, Missouri.
28:12And Gregory says,
28:14I'm writing about something I've never told anyone.
28:16Not my wife, not my friends, not even my brother.
28:20Three years ago, I rented a storage unit after we downsized from a larger home.
28:24At first, it was supposed to be temporary.
28:27Just a few months until I figured out what to do with everything.
28:30Three years later, I'm still paying for it.
28:33Every month like clockwork.
28:35The crazy part is I barely remember what's in there anymore.
28:39Boxes, furniture, old electronics, clothes that don't fit, things I convinced myself were too valuable to let go.
28:47Last weekend, my wife asked me a simple question while we were reviewing our budget.
28:53Do we have any expenses we really don't need?
28:56I immediately thought about the storage unit and immediately changed the subject.
29:01Not because of the money, but because of what it represents.
29:05My father passed away five years ago.
29:08A lot of what's inside that unit belongs to him.
29:11His tools, his workbench, old fishing gear, things I haven't touched since the funeral.
29:16I keep telling myself that getting rid of those things would mean letting go of him.
29:21But now I'm paying $265 a month to avoid making a decision.
29:26Over three years, that's nearly $10,000 of grief I never addressed.
29:34$10,000 of memory sitting in boxes.
29:37$10,000 for a conversation I've been avoiding with myself.
29:42I know this isn't really about storage anymore.
29:45It's about loss.
29:46It's about guilt.
29:48It's about knowing how to honor someone.
29:51Excuse me.
29:52It's about not knowing how to honor someone without holding on to everything they left behind.
29:58How do you know when you're preserving a memory and when the memory is preserving a problem?
30:08What you got?
30:09Man, you know, I mean, I know, you know, when it comes to stuff like that, that's kind of sensitive
30:14in a way to talk.
30:16But in a way, you know, it's like, what is he truly afraid of?
30:24Come, he can't just tell his wife this is.
30:26She asked him.
30:27She asked him a question like a grown up.
30:29How come he can't be a grown up and just say we got this storage?
30:34I mean, he say he had brothers and sisters and they don't even know about it.
30:39I mean, come on, man.
30:41And what is you saving this stuff for?
30:43First of all, you said you ain't seen it in, what, three years?
30:47You don't even know what's in there.
30:50Clothes don't fit.
30:51That's crazy.
30:53It is, man.
30:54You know, I mean, like, don't get me wrong.
30:56I still have some things of my parents.
31:02They're not in storage.
31:03They are here at the house.
31:06You know, and if you can't find no use for it, I'm quite sure that fishing gear, the tools,
31:13if he don't use the tools, hey, man, he can sell them to somebody.
31:19And, you know, you know, I have, you know, I have pictures of my parents.
31:26You know, we talk about our parents so that, you know, I don't feel like I lost anything.
31:32I mean, like I said, when my mother, when we did put her over in, now, when she, we had
31:40to put her in a senior living facility and, you know, it was because she, I mean, she could
31:47still take care of herself.
31:49It was one of them type of facility.
31:51And when she moved out, we had to move the furniture.
31:55So I got a storage place for her.
31:58And the whole time she was alive, she always believed she was going to be able to live on
32:03her own, which that was, and the doctor had already said she'll never be able to live
32:08without some type of assistant.
32:12So she come and then next thing you know, she come live with us.
32:16Okay.
32:16We had a storage place.
32:18And then one day my mom said to me, she said, you got my stuff stored, huh?
32:23I'm like, yeah.
32:24She says, so when I pass away, what you going to do with it?
32:29I said, I don't know.
32:31Let that time get here.
32:32She said, I'm going to tell you right now.
32:34She said, just get rid of it.
32:35She said, you got pictures of me.
32:37You remember me.
32:39I live with you.
32:40I gave you plenty of headaches and, you know, butt whoopings and all that.
32:45So I'm like, yeah, okay.
32:46She said, and you can't remember them.
32:48And I thought about that.
32:50So when my mom, when she did pass away, the things I could keep, I actually has, it wasn't
32:57that much stuff, no way.
32:59And I had them in my apartment that I was staying in.
33:02My sister, she got some things.
33:06And then, you know, like it were things that I had, a friend who helped me move.
33:11He said, what you going to do with this?
33:12I told him, what you going to do with that?
33:13He said, can I have it?
33:15Yeah, you can have it.
33:17And another friend, and you know, it was two of them, two guys that helped me move.
33:20And they was like, well, hey, dude, can I have it?
33:23Yeah, you can, I said, I'll tell you what, whatever y'all want, you tell me, you keep
33:27it.
33:30Yeah.
33:30See, like I'm looking at his situation.
33:35How does he go to his father?
33:37Doesn't want him to get rid of that stuff anyway.
33:40A lot of times people hold on to stuff.
33:43And if his father was here, he'd probably say, if you don't get rid of that stuff.
33:48Yeah.
33:49I mean, he talking about fishing gears and tools he ain't used since he, you know, he
33:54says his father passed away.
33:56So that's five years.
33:58I think it's therapeutic when you do get rid of stuff.
34:01And it's like that conversation that he said he didn't have with himself.
34:05Like if you purge and get rid of stuff, you're able to breathe in that stuff is off of your
34:11memory bank.
34:12Right.
34:12And like I said, he, in a lot of ways, he's not being fair to his wife.
34:17Well, yeah, that's deception.
34:19You're sitting there lying and not when you, that's a business relationship.
34:23First of all, it's yes, it's a marriage, but that's a business relationship.
34:27And you are not being honest with your business partner.
34:30Right.
34:31And that's where things can go south right there.
34:35Yes, indeed.
34:36You know, I mean, you know, like when I read, I'm like, what is he scared of?
34:42I mean, he married her for good or bad, supposedly, you know.
34:48And so all he'll do is say, look, I got this storage.
34:52And maybe she can say, well, hey, let's have a yard sale.
34:57Let's do this.
34:58And he told me, hold on, hold on to me, hold on for what?
35:03Is it something that he did that that's bothering him?
35:08And he feel like holding on to that stuff is going to make it better because it's not
35:12going to make it better.
35:15Only thing I have to say, is this something else when you live with somebody who has a
35:22scarcity mindset and they don't want to get rid of stuff?
35:26Exactly.
35:29It's a big old problem.
35:31Oh, yeah.
35:32And, you know, like I said, you know, he could like, you know, and then what really gets,
35:37gets, you know, like I said, him.
35:41Not telling his wife when she she and because, you know what, she asked him straight up.
35:45So he should have been honest enough to tell her straight back.
35:49Look here, I got this storage and I'm paying this much a month.
35:53That's a lot of money, man.
35:55You know, well, to me, you know, I don't know how other people feel, but that's a that's
35:59a lot of money per month to pay for it.
36:02Like I said, even my mom, when my situation came up and she said, Victor, that's a lot
36:07of money to be paying, to be paying, I'm not here and you ain't gonna never use the stuff.
36:16$10,000 over three years.
36:20That's enough to wake me up and say, I'm good.
36:23Oh, yeah.
36:25Oh, yeah.
36:26You know, so I don't like I said, unless it's something that he's something that that he's done
36:38and he don't want to tell nobody.
36:40So he figured by keeping the stuff, it's going to it's going to relieve whatever it is he's
36:48worried about.
36:48And I'm going to move off of him for a minute.
36:51This is just one example.
36:52But there are several people who have storage units just because the minute that something
36:57goes south, they, you know, there's an eviction, there's, you know, we got to move, whatever
37:04the case may be.
37:05The first thing that some people do is run and go and get a storage unit.
37:09When in reality, the first thing you need to be doing is purging and getting rid of stuff
37:13because he's paying $265 a month.
37:17Now, can you imagine if that $265 was in your pocket?
37:21Yeah.
37:22And then now that would be $10,000 that you would be able to save over a course of a
37:27few
37:27years.
37:28But a lot of people will be so quick to go run and get a storage unit because of this
37:34and that.
37:35And then I ask people, well, what's in there?
37:38And a lot of times they say, I don't even know a lot of old stuff.
37:41So you're paying for a lot of old stuff that you ain't even using it.
37:44Do you know that if you invest and you own property in these storage units, you can make
37:55a heck of a lot of money because of these same situation right here?
37:58It's just human nature and it's human behavior.
38:02And it's people who have a scarcity mindset.
38:06And this goes back to the mental aspect of it that you can, there's people who are making
38:12a killing off of it.
38:13Right.
38:16And, you know, I don't know.
38:18Dude got some issues.
38:20He needs to, he just need to grow up.
38:23I shouldn't say it like that, but he needs to grow up or maybe need to get some, I say
38:29some counseling.
38:30Yeah.
38:32Because again, I'm not here to give any advice.
38:35This is just, you know, our opinion, uh, do your own research and your own due diligence.
38:40But this sounds like a combination of spiritual mental and there really needs to be, I think
38:51some counseling, speak to somebody about it to find out exactly what's making you have that,
39:00you know, scarcity mentality.
39:02Where did that come from?
39:04What happened from your childhood?
39:06And then now that your parents aren't here, I'm sure that that's triggering something too.
39:11Yeah.
39:12Hmm.
39:13This is a, uh, a, a sticky top topic.
39:21Yeah.
39:21But, um, but move past his scenario, you can kind of sort of understand where it's coming
39:28from, but what about the people out there who have those storage units?
39:31And this is not even a case.
39:32You're just in right hoarder or afraid to let go of things.
39:38And therefore now you're paying for storage unit when you need to be paying for other things.
39:45Exactly.
39:47Yeah.
39:48Hmm.
39:50All right.
39:51So, um, any last final words that you have for Mr. Gregory here?
39:58Not, none at all.
39:59I'm sorry.
40:01None at all.
40:02I, you know, I just, none at all.
40:06I got it.
40:10Now the burning question that I'm going to have to ask each and every one of you out
40:14there, and I want you to think about this as we wrap this thing up here, what are you
40:21continuing to pay for financially?
40:23Because you're not really ready to address it emotionally.
40:28So there are some things out there that we are paying for.
40:32And again, think about the financial aspect of it.
40:38And what is it that you're paying for?
40:41Because you are unwilling to come to terms with yourself.
40:45You're unwilling to address that and get down to the root cause.
40:49Like I spoke about in the beginning, people are stressed out, but why what's the root cause?
40:55And if you address it, your finances will straighten up a little bit.
41:04Interesting.
41:06What are you continually paying for financially?
41:14Because you're not ready to address it emotionally.
41:21Mr. Birdman, what you got going on this week?
41:25Mr. Birdman, what you got going on this week?
41:26Uh, tomorrow evening is open mic.
41:30It's tied to poetry and music.
41:34Friday, um, nothing.
41:39Saturday, I have um, an open mic.
41:44Poetry and music is coming out of Austin that one tomorrow evening.
41:48One Saturday night is also coming out of Austin.
41:50It's called Saturday Night Live.
41:54and these are monthly readings and in Sunday artful Dodger which is coming
42:01out of Brooklyn New York open mic and basically that's about it and trying to
42:07figure out how I can better market my books I'm really taking it taking kind
42:13of like a backseat on doing a lot of open mics to start figuring out how to
42:20market my books a little bit better so I can start picking up some sales I know
42:26what you mean I know exactly what you mean you know with that being said you
42:34know I made some changes around here one thing that I learned is that sometimes
42:42you got to seek and you got to get around people who have what you want
42:55right and that's the mode that I'm in right now sometimes you got to get into
42:59different rooms and I think that's the season that I'm in right now is to get
43:04into different rooms and learn because when you stay around people who are on
43:11the same level as you not that there's nothing wrong with it but you're not able
43:15to grow so sometimes we got to make ourselves uncomfortable by putting
43:20ourselves into situations that might be intimidating that you might be scared to
43:24go and this is me speaking to myself like you know what Laren just go seek
43:29knock you know try to find a new way and even though these people don't look like
43:37you they that you know what I'm saying like get in front of these people so that
43:43you can you know get to the next level yeah because there's a lot of the right
43:49now a lot of open mics because it's the summertime a lot of them are going on
43:56vacation now so they're shutting down and you know and I'm like okay this is a good
44:02time to really focus on that and you know one thing I did I did I found out and I
44:13been I learned this long time ago is that a lot of people always want something for
44:18nothing I know that's right and you know you know I've had this in the past oh I
44:27remember this guy he said how much is your book and I told him this I said it's
44:32just ten dollars he said well would you take would you just take anything like 50
44:37cent and I looked at him you know and I'm like no dude I said man you know what I
44:42said just because I said look I'm selling my books cheap enough as it is you
44:47you don't realize how much time I put in putting these words in here putting it
44:53together and getting all this stuff printed out I said that's a big cost I
44:58said so you offer me 50 cent I said no dude I said the best I can do is you
45:04can
45:04hear me read I I know that that's a good response I listened to somebody that says
45:13that listen I am not in the business of trying to force or to sell anything to
45:20you like if I have to force something or force myself on you you are not the
45:26right customer for me and this is you know some things that I had to deal with
45:32and come to grips you're not gonna be for everybody right the people don't have the
45:38means or don't have X Y & Z to pay for your book your services your your clothes
45:45that you're selling the jewelry that you make nothing and life is free those may
45:51just not be the customer for you but I had somebody coach me and say hey listen
45:57it's all on a conversation even though that you know that this specific
46:01individual may not be for you it's how you deliver that message to them that may be
46:07they might know somebody that might want to buy your book right but don't get me
46:12wrong I it's and I and I tell people I said hey man I said sometime I just walk
46:18up you know I'll be somewhere somebody say something hey man you you want a copy
46:22you know and I'll give him a copy but I felt like he tried to be funny in front of
46:29all
46:29you know the crowd that was there with me when others had said they had books and he
46:35never said anything like that to them so I felt like he was trying to down me oh
46:41okay okay I mean that that's the way I felt because the fact is others got up
46:47there and they said they had books and they see how much they were selling them
46:51for and when I said it you know and he said it like that or would you take you
46:56know would you just take a donation and all this you know and oh I got but you
47:00didn't you know and then also I watching him as he was going to buy something to
47:05drink and all that okay and I said you know then I just sent him I said um this
47:10guy here was trying to be funny and he was trying to get see if I was just
47:15desperate anybody I'm not desperate to sell no books at all cuz I'll give I'll give a
47:21book away you know and I I've given many of I get man I give him so many books
47:27away what I was told you know I was in this game a little bit and I gracefully
47:38backed out until the right time she's not the right not the right time but you have
47:43to give away a certain amount before before it starts to come back and do the
47:49boomerang effect oh yeah and I mean I you know I do I get I give it you know I
47:54give book like I said I'll go to a reading and somebody's oh I really like
47:58your poetry blah blah blah and I'm like yeah okay thank you yeah man here's a
48:02copy and I'll just give them up you know like I said I I've given away more books
48:09than I sold yeah they said it that's part of the game yeah and then it will
48:15eventually come back but it's just part of the game in the beginning of the
48:19process yeah and Diana had to be the one that kind of like I mean I was doing that
48:25anyway but she kind of you know kind of like enlightened me on that one one day we
48:31was talking and somebody asked me for a book or something and I don't know man I
48:38was in a bad mood I kind of gave her a real foul answer and then she told me she
48:44said your blessings will come you got to be patient and she said sometimes you
48:50got to give give a book away or two maybe I know you don't want to but and I
48:56thought about it I'm like okay I understand what she's saying
49:01comment for eight years I was going to a festival and I was hosting the poetry slam
49:10but then I seen other people there other poets they couldn't sell their books and
49:15then some people that came and most of time what I seen was if you know if some
49:22of the guys there they could sell you know they were selling their books but they
49:27they were selling the books because it was females that was buying their books
49:30because they wanted to get with them you know and it was a lot of us there that you
49:43know if we had a partner there whatever she was he couldn't he couldn't sell a book
49:47man oh I gotcha I gotcha mm-hmm interesting yeah yeah it is oh man if you if like I
49:58said
49:58I've been to so many book festivals and I think the only time I so really sold
50:05books is when I had a friend we had when he was making candles and it had the whole
50:11area said he said oh man that's where this sin is coming from I was able to sell
50:16books then interesting yeah hmm and him and I was supposed to we were supposed to go in
50:28business and he kind of screwed over not only me but somebody else because somebody else had
50:34had a building and they were selling lingerie and we was putting my books in there his candles in the
50:41lingerie and it was it was going pretty well and he I guess he want and well somebody told me
50:48when his friends close friends said he wanted fast money yeah you know and they said that's that's the
50:56thing he had he had to actually leave town so I'm like I'm glad you did you did do that
51:02you know oh
51:02yeah I remember you telling me that's yeah yeah I'm like okay if you had to leave town that mean
51:07you
51:07know messed over somebody right and you know they they come to get whoever knows them okay
51:16well you you should have known you know if you didn't know you know so right yeah
