01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble

07:10near the evergreens in which the herons live.
07:13The wild goats live in the high mountains.
07:16The rock badgers find safety in the cliffs.
07:21He made the moon to mark the months,
07:23and the sun sets according to a regular schedule.
07:27He make it dark, and night comes,
07:30during which all the beasts of the forest prowl around.
07:34The lions roar for prey, seeking their food from God.
07:40When the sun rises, they withdraw and sleep in their dens.
07:45Men then go out to do their work,
07:48and labour away until evening.
07:51How many living things have you made, O Lord?
07:55You have exhibited great skill in making all of them.
07:58The earth is full of living things you have made.
08:03Over here is the deep wide sea,
08:06which teems with innumerable swimming creatures,
08:09living things, both small and large.
08:13The ships travel there,
08:15and over here swims the whale you made to play in it.
08:20All of your creatures wait for you to provide them with food,
08:23on a regular basis.
08:25You give food to them, and they receive it.
08:28You open your hand, and they are filled with food.
08:32When you ignore them, they panic.
08:34When you take away their life's breath,
08:36they die and return to dust.
08:39When you send your life-giving breath,
08:42they are created,
08:43and you replenish the surface of the ground.
08:47May the splendour of the Lord endure.
08:50May the Lord find pleasure in the living things He has made.

09:51While Ezra was praying and confessing,
09:54weeping and throwing himself to the ground before the temple of God,
10:00a very large crowd of Israelites,
10:02men, women, and children alike,
10:05gathered around him.
10:08The people wept lowly.
10:12Then Shekeniah, son of Jehiel,
10:15from the descendants of Elam,
10:17addressed Ezra.
10:20We have been unfaithful to our God
10:22by marrying foreign women from local people.
10:27Nonetheless, there is still hope for Israel in this regard.
10:32Let us therefore enact a covenant with our God
10:35to send away all these people and their offspring,
10:39in keeping with your counsel, my Lord,
10:42and that of those who respect the commandments of our God.
10:47Let it be done according to the law.
10:50Get up, for this matter concerns you.
10:54We are with you, so be strong and act decisively.
10:59So Ezra got up
11:01and made the leading priests and the Levites and all Israel.
11:05take an oath to carry out the plan.
11:08They all took a solemn oath.

11:23he did not eat food or drink water,

11:31A proclamation was distributed throughout Judah and Jerusalem
11:36that all the exiles would be assembled in Jerusalem.
11:42Anyone who did not come within three days
11:45would immediately forfeit all his property,
11:48in keeping with the counsel of the officials and the elders.

11:55he himself would be excluded
11:56from the assembly of the exiles.
