00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:56Psalm 73
04:59Certainly God is good to Israel, and to those whose motives are pure.
05:06But as for me, my feet almost slipped, my feet almost slid out from under me.
05:12For I envied those who are proud, as I observe the prosperity of the wicked.
05:18For they suffer no pain.
05:20Their bodies are strong and well fed.
05:23They are immune to the common trouble to men.
05:26They do not suffer as other men do.
05:30Arrogance is their necklace, and violence covers them like clothing.
05:36Their prosperity causes them to do wrong, and their thoughts are sinful.
05:42They mock and say evil things.
05:45They proudly threaten violence.
05:48They speak as if they rule in heaven, and lay claim to the earth.
05:55Therefore, they have more than enough food to eat, and even suck up the water of the sea.
06:00They say, how does God know what we do?
06:04Is the Most High aware of what goes on?
06:09Take a good look.
06:12This is what the wicked are like.
06:14Those who always have it so easy, and get richer and richer.
06:19I concluded, surely in vain, I have kept my motives pure, and maintained a pure lifestyle.
06:28I suffer all day long, and I am punished every morning.
06:34If I had publicized these thoughts, I would have betrayed your people.
06:40And when I tried to make sense of this, it was troubling to me.
06:46Then I entered the precincts of God's temple, and I understood the destiny of the wicked.
06:54Surely you put them in slippery places, and you bring them down to ruin.
07:00How desolate they become in a mere moment.
07:05Terrifying judgments make their demise complete.
07:10They are like a dream after one wakes up.
07:12O Lord, when you awake, you will despise them.
07:18Yes, my spirit was bitter, and my insides felt a sharp pain.
07:23I was ignorant, and lacked insight.
07:27I was as senseless as an animal before you.
07:31But I am continually with you.
07:33You hold my right hand.
07:36You guide me by your wise advice, and then you will lead me to a position of honor.
07:42Whom do I have in heaven but you?
07:45I desire no one but you on earth.
07:50My flesh and my heart may grow weak, but God always protects my heart and gives me stability.
07:57Yes, look, those far from you die.
08:01You destroy everyone who is unfaithful to you.
08:05But as for me, God's presence is all I need.
08:09I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter, as I declare all the things you have done.
08:16Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
08:20as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
08:26Amen.
08:30Psalm 74
08:33Why, O God, have you permanently rejected us?
08:37Why does your anger burn against the sheep of your pasture?
08:45Remember your people, whom you acquired in ancient times,
08:49whom you rescued, so that they could be your very own nation,
08:53as well as Mount Zion, where you dwell.
08:58Hurry to the permanent ruins, and to all the damage the enemy has done to the temple.
09:04Your enemies roar in the middle of your sanctuary.
09:08They set up their battle flags.
09:11They invade like lumberjacks, swinging their axes in a thick forest.
09:17And now they are tearing down all its engravings with axes and crowbars.
09:23They set your sanctuary on fire.
09:26They desecrate your dwelling place by knocking it to the ground.
09:31They say to themselves, we will oppress all of them.
09:36They burn down all the places where people worship God in the land.
09:42We do not see any signs of God's presence.
09:46There are no longer any prophets,
09:47and we have no one to tell us how long this will last.
09:52How long, O God, will the adversary hurl insults?
09:57Will the enemy blaspheme your name forever?
10:01Why do you remain inactive, intervene and destroy him?
10:08But God has been my King from ancient times,
10:12performing acts of deliverance on the earth.
10:16You destroyed the sea by your strength.
10:18You shattered the heads of the sea monster in the water.
10:23You crushed the heads of the Leviathan.
10:26You fed him to the people who live along the coast.
10:30You broke open the spring and the stream.
10:33You dried up perpetually flowing rivers.
10:37You established the cycle of day and night.
10:40You put the moon and the sun in place.
10:44You set up all the boundaries of the earth.
10:47You created the cycle of summer and winter.
10:52Remember how the enemy hurls insults, O Lord,
10:55and how a foolish nation blasphemes your name.
11:00Do not hand the life of your dove over to a wild animal.
11:05Do not continue to disregard the lives of your oppressed people.
11:11Remember your covenant promises,
11:13for the dark regions of the earth are full of places where violence rules.
11:20Do not let the afflicted be turned back in shame.
11:24Let the oppressed and the poor praise your name.
11:29Rise up, O God.
11:30Defend your honour.
11:32Remember how fools insult you all day long.
11:36Do not disregard what your enemies say
11:39or the unceasing shouts of those who defy you.
11:44Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
11:48as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
11:53world without end.
11:55Amen.
12:03The second book of Chronicles, chapter 33.
12:10Manasseh was 12 years old when he became king,
12:13and he reigned for 55 years in Jerusalem.
12:18He did evil in the sight of the Lord,
12:21and committed the same horrible sins practised by the nations whom the Lord drove out ahead of the Israelites.
12:29He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed.
12:35He set up altars for the Baal and made Asherah poles.
12:39He bowed down to the stars in the sky and worshipped them.
12:44He built altars in the Lord's temple,
12:47about which the Lord had said,
12:49Jerusalem will be my permanent home.
12:54In the two courtyards of the Lord's temple,
12:57he built altars for all the stars in the sky.
13:01He passed his sons through the fire in the valley of Ben-Hinnom
13:05and practised divination, omen reading and sorcery.
13:12He set up a ritual pit to conjure up underworld spirits
13:16and appointed magicians to supervise it.
13:20He did a great deal of evil in the sight of the Lord and angered him.
13:26He put an idolatrous image he had made in God's temple,
13:31about which God had said to David and his son Solomon,
13:35This temple in Jerusalem, which I have chosen
13:37out of all the tribes of Israel,
13:40will be my permanent home.
13:43I will not make Israel again leave the land I gave to their ancestors,
13:49provided that they carefully obey all I have commanded them,
13:53the whole law, the rules and regulations given to Moses.
13:59But Manasseh misled the people of Judah
14:01and the residents of Jerusalem.
14:04So that they sent more than the nations
14:06whom the Lord had destroyed ahead of the Israelites.
14:14The Lord confronted Manasseh and his people,
14:18but they paid no attention.
14:20So the Lord brought against them
14:22the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria.
14:26They seized Manasseh, put hooks in his nose,
14:30bound him in bronze chains
14:31and carried him away to Babylon.
14:36In his pain, Manasseh asked the Lord his God for mercy
14:40and truly humbled himself before the guard of his ancestors.
14:46When he prayed to the Lord,
14:47the Lord responded to him and answered favorably his cry for mercy.
14:55The Lord brought him back to Jerusalem to his kingdom and Manasseh realized that the Lord is the true God.
15:05After this, Manasseh built up the outer wall of the city of David on the west side of Gihon in
15:12the valley to the entrance of the fish gate and all around the terrace.
15:15He made it much higher and placed army officers in all the fortified cities of Judah.
15:24He removed the foreign gods and the images from the Lord's temple and all the altars that he had built
15:30on the hill of the Lord's temple and throughout Jerusalem.
15:34He threw them outside the city.
15:37He erected the altar of the Lord and offered on it peace offerings and thank offerings.
15:46He told the people of Judah to serve the Lord God of Israel.
15:52The people continued to offer sacrifices at the high places, but only to the Lord their God.
16:01The rest of the events of Manasseh's reign, including his prayer to his God,
16:05and the words of the prophets spoken to him in the name of the Lord God of Israel are recorded
16:12in the annals of the kings of Israel.
16:16The annals of the prophets include his prayer, giving an account of how the Lord responded to it
16:22and recording all his sins and faithful acts,
16:25identifying the sites where he built the high praises and erected Asherah poles and idols
16:33before he humbled himself.
16:38Manasseh passed away and was buried in his palace.
16:42His son Ammon replaced him as king.
16:47Ammon was 22 years old when he became king
16:50and he reigned for two years in Jerusalem.
16:55He did evil in the sight of the Lord, just as his father Manasseh had done.
17:02He offered sacrifices to all the idols his father Manasseh had made and worshipped them.
17:09He did not humble himself before the Lord as his father Manasseh had done.
17:16Ammon was guilty of great sin.
17:21His servants conspired against him and killed him in his palace.
17:28The people of the land executed all who had conspired against King Ammon
17:33and they made his son Josiah king in his place.
17:39This is the word of the Lord.
17:42Thanks be to God.
18:00Mary said
18:01My soul exalts the Lord
18:04and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour
18:09because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
18:14For from now on all generations will call me blessed
18:18because he who is mighty has done great things for me
18:23and holy is his name.
18:26From generation to generation
18:28he is merciful to those who fear him.
18:32He has demonstrated power with his arm.
18:36He has scattered those whose pride wells up
18:38from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
18:41He has brought down the mighty from their thrones
18:44and has lifted up those of lowly position.
18:48He has filled the hungry with good things
18:51and has sent the rich away empty.
18:54He has helped his servant Israel
18:57remembering his mercy
18:59as he promised to our ancestors
19:02to Abraham and to his descendants forever.
19:07Glory be to the Father
19:09and to the Son
19:10and to the Holy Spirit
19:11as it was in the beginning
19:14is now and ever shall be
19:16world without end.
19:19Amen.
19:29The Epistle of Saint James
19:31Chapter 5
19:33Come now, you rich!
19:36Weep and cry aloud
19:37over the miseries that are coming upon you.
19:40Your riches have rotted
19:42and your clothing has become moth-eaten.
19:46Your gold and silver have rusted
19:48and their rust will be a witness against you.
19:52It will consume your flesh like fire.
19:56It is in the last days
19:58that you have hoarded treasure.
20:01Look, the pay that you have held back
20:04from the workers who mowed your field
20:06cried out against you
20:08and the cries of the reapers
20:10have reached the ears
20:12of the Lord of hosts.
20:14You have lived indulgently
20:16and luxuriously upon the earth.
20:19You have fattened your hearts
20:21in a day of slaughter.
20:23You have condemned
20:24and murdered the righteous person
20:26although he does not resist you.
20:31So be patient, brothers and sisters,
20:34until the Lord's return.
20:36Think of how the farmer waits
20:38for the precious fruit of the bread
20:40and is patient for it
20:42until it receives the early and late rains.
20:46You also be patient
20:49and strengthen your hearts
20:50for the Lord's return is near.
20:53Do not grumble against one another,
20:56brothers and sisters,
20:57so that you may not be judged.
21:00See, the judge stands before the gates.
21:04As an example of suffering and patience,
21:07brothers and sisters,
21:09take the prophets who spoke
21:10in the Lord's name.
21:13Think of how we regard
21:15the blessed who have endured.
21:18You have heard of Job's endurance
21:20and you have seen the Lord's purpose,
21:23that the Lord is full
21:25of compassion and mercy.
21:28Above all, my brothers and sisters,
21:31do not swear either by heaven
21:33or by earth
21:34or by any other oath,
21:36but let your yes be yes
21:38and your no be no,
21:41so that you may not fall
21:42into judgment.
21:45Is anyone amongst you suffering?
21:48He should pray.
21:50Is anyone in good spirits?
21:53He should sing praises.
21:55Is anyone among you ill?
21:58He should summon the elders
21:59of the church
22:00and they should pray for him
22:02and anoint him with oil
22:04in the name of the Lord.
22:06For the prayer of faith
22:08will save the one who is sick
22:09and the Lord will raise him up.
22:12And if he has committed sins,
22:15he will be forgiven.
22:18So confess your sins
22:20to one another
22:20and pray for one another
22:22that you may be healed.
22:25The prayer of the righteous person
22:27has great effectiveness.
22:31Elijah was a human being
22:33just like us
22:34and he prayed earnestly
22:35that it would not rain.
22:38And there was no rain
22:39on the land
22:40for three years
22:41and six months.
22:44Then he prayed again
22:45and the sky gave rain
22:47and the land sprouted
22:48with a harvest.
22:52My brothers and sisters,
22:54if anyone among you
22:55wanders from the truth
22:56and someone turns him back,
22:59he should know
23:00that the one who turns
23:01the sinner back
23:02from his wandering path
23:03will save that person's soul
23:06from death
23:06and will cover
23:08a multitude of sins.
23:12This is the word of the Lord.
23:14Thanks be to God.
23:29Now, according to your word,
23:31Sovereign Lord,
23:32permit your servant
23:34to depart in peace.
23:36For my eyes have seen
23:38your salvation
23:39that you have prepared
23:40in the presence
23:41of all peoples.
23:43A light for revelation
23:45to the Gentiles
23:46and for glory
23:48to your people Israel.
23:51Glory be to the Father
23:53and to the Son
23:54and to the Holy Spirit,
23:56as it was in the beginning,
23:58is now and ever shall be,
24:00world without end.
24:02Amen.
24:07I believe in God
24:09the Father Almighty,
24:11maker of heaven and earth,
24:12and in Jesus Christ,
24:14his only Son,
24:15our Lord,
24:16who was conceived
24:18by the Holy Spirit,
24:19born of the Virgin Mary,
24:22suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
24:25was crucified,
24:27dead,
24:27and buried.
24:28He descended into hell.
24:31On the third day
24:32he rose again
24:33from the dead.
24:34He ascended into heaven
24:36and is sitting
24:37at the right hand
24:38of God the Father Almighty.
24:41from there
24:42he shall come
24:43to judge
24:43the living
24:44and the dead.
24:46I believe
24:47in the Holy Spirit,
24:48the Holy Catholic Church,
24:50the communion
24:51of saints,
24:52the forgiveness
24:53of sins,
24:54the resurrection
24:55of the body,
24:56and the life
24:57everlasting.
24:59Amen.
25:04The Lord be with you
25:07and with your spirit.
25:11Let us pray.
25:15Lord, have mercy upon us.
25:18Christ, have mercy upon us.
25:23Lord, have mercy upon us.
25:29Our Father,
25:31who is in heaven,
25:33holy is your name.
25:35May your kingdom come.
25:37May your will be done
25:39on earth as it is in heaven.
25:42Give us this day
25:44our daily bread.
25:45Forgive us our trespasses
25:47as we forgive those
25:49who trespass against us.
25:51Lead us not into temptation,
25:54but deliver us from evil.
25:57For yours is the kingdom,
26:00the power and the glory,
26:02for ever and ever.
26:04Amen.
26:09O Lord, show your mercy upon us
26:12and grant us your salvation.
26:18Protect and guide those
26:20in authority over us
26:23and mercifully hear us
26:25when we call upon you.
26:28Endue your ministers
26:30with righteousness
26:32and make your chosen people
26:34joyful.
26:37O Lord, save your people
26:41and bless your inheritance.
26:45Give peace in our time,
26:47O Lord,
26:49because there is none other
26:51who fights for us
26:52but only you, O God.
26:56O God, make clean
26:57our hearts within us
27:00and take not
27:02your Holy Spirit
27:03from us.
27:12Let us pray.
27:14O Lord,
27:16who never fails to help
27:17and govern
27:18those
27:19who you bring up
27:20in your steadfast fear
27:21and love.
27:23Keep us,
27:24we beseech you,
27:25under the protection
27:26of your good providence
27:27and make us have
27:29a perpetual fear
27:30and love
27:31of your Holy Name.
27:33Through Jesus Christ,
27:35our Lord.
27:36Amen.
27:38Amen.
27:45O God,
27:47from whom all holy desires,
27:50all good counsels
27:51and all just works
27:52proceed,
27:54give to your servants
27:55that peace
27:56which the world cannot give,
27:59that our hearts
28:00may be set to obey
28:01your commandments,
28:03and also that,
28:04which, by you,
28:06we, being defended
28:07from the fear
28:08of our enemies,
28:09may pass our time
28:11in rest and quietness.
28:13Through the merits
28:14of Jesus Christ,
28:16our Saviour.
28:17Amen.
28:22Lighten our darkness,
28:24we beseech you,
28:25O Lord,
28:26and by your great mercy
28:27defend us all
28:29from perils
28:30and dangers
28:31of this night.
28:32for the love
28:33of your only Son,
28:35our Saviour,
28:36Jesus Christ.
28:37Amen.
28:41Almighty God,
28:43who has given us grace
28:44at this time
28:45with one accord
28:46to make our common
28:47supplications
28:48to you
28:49and promises
28:51that when two or three
28:52are gathered together
28:53in your name,
28:54you will grant
28:55their requests.
28:58Fulfill now,
28:59O Lord,
29:00the desires
29:01and petitions
29:02of your servants
29:03as may be
