00:00US Open will tee off tomorrow morning. Welcome back to Prediction Markets Edge. I'm Craig
00:04Mish along with Joe Ranieri here on the early line and certainly we'll dive into the live
00:08leaderboard tomorrow. But on yesterday's press media tour, Rory McIlroy gave a lot of comments
00:15regarding a couple of different topics which we want to discuss here. The first is this new idea
00:19of what you would call a minor league PGA Tour. Right now it's called the Corn Ferry Tour that
00:24features golfers that are fighting to earn or retain their playing privileges on the track
00:29one circuit. So apparently they're trying to propose a second circuit here. It's called
00:34track two that has lower tier PGA Tour events that would start in 2028. But Rory is a big
00:40fan of the one that currently exists. It isn't a huge fan of changing it. Here are some of
00:46those comments from Rory yesterday at Shinnecock Hills. Like an event, I guess like just recently
00:54an event like last week, the Canadian Open potentially going to one of these track twos.
01:00And like track two is a glorified corn fairy event. Like that's what track two is going
01:05to be. So I don't think the Canadian Open should be one of those. And yeah, I just think there's
01:13going to be certain events that, you know, might lose their stature if a sponsor doesn't
01:19pony up $30 million. So that's that's the tough thing. But I like I'm not in those rooms. I don't
01:31know. I'm you know, I I play my schedule and I'll continue to play my schedule, which is getting
01:38less and less as years go on. So yeah, I it's a it's funny like I think is as they've
01:48done all this work.
01:51Um, you start to realize that like the way the tour was before Liv came along was actually pretty good.
01:59You know, it was a it was, you know, it was a pretty good structure and everything sort of worked
02:02pretty
02:02well. Liv created this false economy where we had to up prize funds and had to cut fields and try
02:12to
02:12support the top players and all that stuff, which I think needed to happen because that was the only
02:16way to retain talent at the time. But now that Liv looks like it's less of a threat. You know,
02:22I think
02:24that, as I said, that the old ways of the PGA Tour, um, weren't actually that bad.
02:31Joe, real quick, I want to get your comment on that before we move to this week. I think Rory
02:35said
02:35something that was really important, which sort of tells me the whole synopsis behind this is that
02:41Liv Golf was indeed a failure. It is not going to succeed outside of the money that these guys got
02:46paid. Rory seemingly wants to go back to the way that things were traditionally. And it's
02:52not a bad take because certainly what Liv tried didn't work. Why would the PGA Tour deviate from
02:58anything except for just simply getting these guys back from Liv Golf, making them pay their penalty
03:03fees and moving forward? Because the PGA Tour has nobody to blame but themselves. Liv was a creation
03:12out of the ridiculous greed of the PGA Tour who would not up purses, would not give guys an
03:19opportunity to make more money. That is why Liv existed to begin with, is because the PGA
03:25wouldn't change anything. Guys were making the same amount of money. I mean, look at Tiger's
03:31career winnings versus what Scotty Scheffler is now making. I mean, Tiger played arguably the best
03:39golfer in the world, is just about on even footing for career earnings with a guy that is, what, 28
03:46years
03:46old, who's only been winning tournaments number one for the last three years? That's the difference.
03:51Liv was created because the PGA wasn't that great. Interesting that it's coming from Rory,
03:57who's already made $190 million on tour, and now he's worried about some of the classic
04:04tournaments going away because the sponsors might not be able to afford it. And a PGA Tour had an
04:11opportunity to rectify all of this, but they didn't, and that is why Liv came about.
04:16Well said. Now let's get a preview of the upcoming match this week. Masters champ Rory McIlroy
04:22discussing Shinnecock Hills as the premier test on the PGA Tour.
04:27Yeah, it's a great golf course. I think it's, you know, everything going the way everyone wants it in
04:42terms of weather, you know, set up, you know, I probably, I think it's the best championship test
04:52in the country. Uh, I think it, um, it tests all aspects of the game, uh, driving, iron play. Um,
05:04you need to have your wits about you around the greens. Um, it's a lot of strategy, thoughtfulness.
05:10Um, and yeah, look, it's, you know, it's a, it's a golf course where it can turn very quickly. Um,
05:20you know, you get a day like yesterday with a lot of wind and, and dry, clear conditions like this.
05:25And, um, you know, I think that's, you know, we're just going to have to be mindful of that as
05:30the
05:30week goes on. Um, but it's a, it's a wonderful golf course and, um, looking forward to the test that
05:38it's going to provide this week. Meanwhile, it's 100 consecutive major appearances for Adam Scott,
05:45who will participate this week at the U S open. He weighed in on this incredible accomplishment.
05:51Yeah, it's, um, it's an interesting one as I've, uh, thought about it over the last couple of weeks,
05:59obviously this week, getting closer. I've, I found it difficult at first reflecting on, uh,
06:07something while I'm still playing. I think I've never really been one to dwell on milestones. I think
06:15it's something I'd probably do at the end of my career. However, uh, it's resonated a little bit
06:22more with me the last few days. And, uh, from people close to me, uh, to my sponsors and partners,
06:31you know, I'm, I'm so appreciative of everyone recognizing this. It's a strange one because it's
06:36not something you're really set out to do or aim for. But in all honesty, since Pinehurst a couple years
06:43ago, it kind of was on my radar and, uh, earlier this year, as I wasn't automatically qualified for
06:51this event, it, uh, became a bit of a weight on my shoulders, making sure I got here. So
06:58it's been fun. I had a photograph with Jack Nicklaus a couple of weeks ago at his memorial
07:04tournament. And he's the other guy who made it to a hundred in a row. Uh, he in fact made
07:10it way past
07:10that. And I can't even think about playing another 11 or 12 years straight of these,
07:17but, uh, I'm really excited for this week. Let's take a look at the prediction markets
07:23right now where it stands. Scotty Scheffler 14%, Rory 6.7%, John Rama, just a tick over five,
07:31Zander 4.6, Fleetwood four, Fitzpatrick four, and then everyone else. You're taking a long shot on that.
07:39Joe and I will discuss more of the PGA tour and the us open on tomorrow's show.
07:43We'll take a break and come back and wrap things up for this edition of the show.
