00:00Houston taking on the Athletics today.
00:02Frambois Valdez, this guy was once the ace of the staff,
00:05struggling down the stretch, going up against JT Ginn.
00:08Must-win situation for Houston to keep themselves in the playoff picture.
00:11They're not even a favorite today.
00:13It's roughly a pick-em with Frambois Valdez on the mound
00:16and a total of nine and a half.
00:17What happened to the Strohs?
00:19There's a collapse for you.
00:21Well, yeah, and again, they can thank the Detroit Tigers
00:25for playing even worse baseball than they are,
00:28that they're still even in the conversation for the wild card here.
00:33My goodness, five-game losing streak is what they are on right now,
00:38and now they've got to take on the Athletics,
00:40where they just, the bats are not there.
00:42Donnie, they're not there.
00:44They can't be trusted, and Ginn has been pretty good,
00:46and I think the Athletics are having a fun time playing spoiler right now.
00:50By the way, this next game, too, like, again,
00:52the Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks,
00:54the Dodgers can't chase down the Phillies to get that number two seed.
00:57The Dodgers, you know, making it into the playoffs.
00:59Arizona, a lot to play for.
01:00Yamamoto's on the mound.
01:01But also, I was informed of this.
01:03I still see Gallon as the starting pitcher,
01:05but I thought I read last night from Bob Nightingale.
01:07That's not going to be the case,
01:08and they're just going to piecemeal this game together.
01:10They are a heavy favorite for the Dodgers,
01:12and they might be getting a white flag game for Arizona?
01:16Yeah, isn't that kind of crazy here?
01:18I mean, you wouldn't think that that's what they're going to do,
01:20but Beeks is who I see as the opener here for Arizona, the lefty.
01:27But my goodness, I mean, that was a game that was very winnable for Arizona again last night,
01:33and unfortunately, they weren't able to get it done.
01:36This is another desperation back against the wall.
01:40They have got to get it done here tonight against the Dodgers at home.
01:45Hey, it's always interesting to see how these games flow together,
01:47because it feels like, Joe, like, you know, week 16, week 17, week 18 in pro football.
01:53It's like, boy, make sure you're listening to the manager.
01:55Make sure you're listening to who's going to be in that starting lineup
01:57because you could be getting anybody.
01:58Oh, I'm getting plus 125 by game time.
02:00You're getting plus 180 because nobody's playing in that game.
02:04Now, just after the break,
02:05I don't even know if we need handicaps anymore on these situations,
02:08but it's Detroit and it's Cleveland that we're going to talk about.
02:11It's Montero and it's Messick here.
02:12You're going to see a heavy favorite for Cleveland at this point,
02:15and also, is there value on Detroit?
02:18Have we gone so far that Detroit might not win another Major League Baseball
02:22throughout the final four days of the season?
02:25Unbelievable fall.
02:26It's Detroit, it's Cleveland.
02:27It's next on the Early Line.
02:29Do you want the odds perspective on the show?
02:31That's what you get on the Early Line.
02:33That's what your boy DRS does and Joe Ranieri.
02:35We want to put in the big picture into the small picture,
02:38which the small picture today is Detroit's going to take on Cleveland.
02:40The bigger picture was Cleveland over the summer, Joe,
02:43was a 50-1 prize, not to win the World Series, to win their own division.
02:47They're going to win their own division here because Detroit can't stop losing.
02:51And today, Kiter Montero is on the mound for the Detroit Tigers.
02:54Parker Messick, the young lefty for the Guardians on the mound today.
02:57So you say to yourself, oh, it's probably a pick-em game.
03:00No, it's not, Joe.
03:01We're as high as minus 170 at some outlets right now for a favorite
03:04for the Guardians over the Tigers,
03:07and a total between seven and a half and eight runs.
03:10Once again, this is not a handicap.
03:11This is a free fall, and nobody is stopping it.
03:15Price point be damned.
03:16It's got to be the Guardians again for me today, Joe.
03:20Again, Donnie, we started this whole show off by talking about a very valuable
03:26betting lesson of trying not to catch a falling knife.
03:30Well, the falling knife in this spot is the Detroit Tigers,
03:33and it hasn't just been for a couple of games, Donnie.
03:36This has been going on now for the entire month of September,
03:40and the longer or the closer we get to the end of the regular season,
03:44the more tense, the more stress that we're starting to see from this team
03:49and the worse it's getting.
03:50They are not going to snap out of this.
03:53Cleveland is focused.
03:54They've won 17 of their last 19 games, including all five,
03:59against Detroit this month.
04:01I mean, they erased the 15-and-a-half game deficit.
04:04There is nothing redeeming about backing the Tigers in this spot.
04:08By the way, can we get Class A back now?
04:09Can we just reinstate those guys for gambling charges and wipe the slate clean?
04:13Because it looked like that was like, ah, it's not going to worry the rest of the season.
04:16Just get them away from the team.
04:17Now you need these guys.
04:19Bring them back on board.
04:20But today, we'll see if the Guardians can again deliver another gut punch there
04:24to the Detroit Tigers.
04:25We'll see if that happens.
04:26I'll tell you right now, the Toronto Blue Jays not making it easy on themselves,
04:29and neither are the Yankees chasing them down when the bats are coming alive.
04:32The Yankees today, a minus 300 favorite over the Chicago White Sox.
04:38At home in the Bronx with a total of eight-and-a-half.
04:40The Yankees, full gas, trying to win that AL East,
04:43and they are a monster favorite to win their baseball game today.
04:47Listen, as well they should be.
04:49I mean, you know, Judge gets it done last night.
04:53They had Freed on the mound.
04:54Now they got their other ace there in Rodon,
04:57who has been absolutely their go-to guy this season.
05:01So, yeah, they are a $3 favorite, and a $3 favorite for a reason.
05:07I would probably look team total over as well,
05:10because I think the runs keep coming for the Yankees.
05:13How about this one here?
05:14Boston versus Toronto.
05:16Yesterday on Bye Bye Bye, me and Joe were loading up
05:18on the Boston Red Sox, and they did not disappoint.
05:21Max Scherz is on the mound.
05:22You can't fade him.
05:23Oh, yes, you can, and do with ease.
05:25And hammered yesterday were the Toronto Blue Jays.
05:28They're looking to bounce back today.
05:29It's Bale on the mound here, the right-handed pitcher,
05:32for the Red Sox going up against Shane Bieber.
05:33The trade line acquisition for Toronto.
05:36How about the overnight line, Joe?
05:38Minus 155 for Toronto.
05:40Collapsing as we speak.
05:42Minus 132, and a total listed of eight here.
05:45Boston trying to do even more damage to Toronto.
05:48Boston trying to fight over the final four games here,
05:51in desperate need of a win of the Blue Jays.
05:54I don't know if they get it here.
05:55Do they?
05:56Well, they were in a position to clinch a postseason berth
06:00with a win here in this game.
06:04And then, of course, if the Blue Jays lose and the Yankees win,
06:07well, guess what, Blue Jays?
06:08You're not first anymore in the American League East.
06:11So this is a big game.
06:13And right now, in current form, the Blue Jays have lost six of seven
06:17and a five-game lead back from, what, September 16th.
06:21That's been erased here.
06:23And call me crazy here, Donnie.
06:25You keep only scoring one run.
06:28You're not going to beat a lot of teams.
06:30The bats have gone MIA for Toronto,
06:33and it's been like that now for a little while.
06:35And by the way, talking about going MIA,
06:37the Mets have been MIA, it feels like, since the All-Star break,
06:40but still clinging to a playoff position in the wild card.
06:43They're going to take on Chicago again.
06:45And Imanaga's going to be on the mound of lefty going up against McLean.
06:47It's almost like it was like, hey, kids, win some baseball games for us
06:50on the New York Mets as starting pitching
06:51because our veterans can't do anything here.
06:54A total listed at seven and a half, and they pick them here.
06:57The Mets absolutely need this.
06:59The Chicago Cubs, just looking to set the rotation up here
07:02for September slash October playoff baseball.
07:05How are we feeling about the Mets in complete free-fall mode?
07:08But it seems like nobody can steal that race from them.
07:09Yeah, Wally, I mean, the good thing is, and I can't believe I'm saying this,
07:14but they got to deal with a rookie to end up helping them clinch a playoff
07:19for the Mets do, and they got a pretty good one in McLean.
07:22The kid is absolutely lights out.
07:25Imanaga's no joke either, but he hasn't been as dominant
07:29as he has been last season here.
07:32I give the edge to the Mets early,
07:34but they have to play from in front in this game.
07:37So I would look at them in the first five, Donnie.
07:40How about a tough handicap coming up in this next game?
07:42It's Colorado and Seattle.
07:43Yesterday, I loved the team total for the Seattle Mariners.
07:45They easily got that.
07:46They were pounding away early in that game, which you love to see.
07:49Now, you have the clinching of the division for the Mariners.
07:52You have the Mariners in the playoffs,
07:53and they're celebrating on back-to-back nights.
07:56So you might say to yourself,
07:57oh, they'll probably take it easy on Colorado.
07:59You can probably have your double-A ball club knock off Colorado,
08:02but understand this too.
08:03Joe, they're basically a game back of being the number one overall seed
08:07in the American League.
08:08So it's not as if you clinch a playoff spot,
08:11win your division, take a couple days off.
08:13There is a lot to play off for Seattle.
08:15Hancock's going up against Blaylock tonight.
08:16Still a minus, 220 favorite for Seattle.
08:19How do you play this?
08:20Because for me, Joe, I still really like Seattle,
08:23and I don't think a lot of guys are going to get the day off,
08:25but you have to watch the late-night game
08:27where those starting lineups are.
08:29If they're a full go tonight, they should smash Colorado,
08:32but if they have a mixed-match lineup,
08:34that underdog price might be looking decent for Colorado,
08:37but again, who the heck wants to bet Colorado
08:39any way, shape, or form?
08:41No, well, you can't, and the Mariners, like you said,
08:43they're still in play for a wild-card series buy
08:46thanks to the Detroit Tigers, again, falling apart.
08:51So there is a lot that these teams,
08:53no matter what happens with Detroit,
08:55all of these teams should absolutely keep them
08:57on the Christmas list here
08:58because they've been great to teams like Houston and Seattle
09:01and the Red Sox and others here.
09:04So I'm with you.
09:05I don't think Seattle takes their foot off the gas.
09:08It's been a 23-year division title drought.
09:12That was the fourth longest active in baseball.
09:15They got it done, and I don't see them stopping here.
09:19They got other things they want to do,
09:21including getting that time off in the bye
09:23would be huge for Seattle.
09:25And also understand this, too.
09:27Like, you owe it to your players sometimes,
09:28and you don't want to be,
09:29hey, you know what?
09:30I'm going to chase individual accolades, Joe,
09:32over the team achievements.
09:33We understand that.
09:34But this isn't a time like,
09:35hey, Cal, sit out like two out of the final four games
09:37or whatever.
09:38We don't need you because we already clinched.
09:40We want to rest you up,
09:40and maybe you don't win the MVP.
09:42That's a big deal, man.
09:43Like, you want to ride for Cal Raleigh,
09:45which means you want to put the best lineup out there
09:47to protect Cal Raleigh.
09:48It's like, hey, you know what?
09:49If we don't have Julio Rodriguez in the game
09:51or, you know, any one of our Randy Rosarana,
09:53let's just pitch around Cal Raleigh.
09:54He's going to play the final few games here
09:56to see how many home runs he can hit
09:58in this historic season
09:59and also try to win an MVP
10:01along with those accolades for the team
10:03and how good they've been.
10:04But let me ask you this question too, Joe.
10:06You take a look at teams like
10:07Tampa Bay, Baltimore playing today,
10:08Minnesota and Texas,
10:09Kansas City and L.A.
10:10How do you handle those situations
10:12where both teams are out of it?
10:14I generally just lean towards the over,
10:16which means low leverage situations,
10:19trying new pitchers out
10:20and sort of a almost pickup game type atmosphere for me.
10:23Yeah, well, a lot of these teams
10:26are playing towards the future, right?
10:28So a lot of guys playing for contracts,
10:31playing to make the,
10:32all the young guys that have called up
10:33with the expanded rosters,
10:35you know, all of these guys,
10:36you got to take all of that into consideration.
10:38I mean, the best thing is, Donnie,
10:39you don't have to bet every game here.
10:42And a lot of these teams
10:44are just playing out the string here,
10:46trying to get the season over with
10:48so they can move on and try again next season.
10:50So tread carefully here in those games.
10:52Now I'm going to ask you this question right now.
10:55If we do take a look at that odds board,
10:56Cal Raleigh is a minus 210 right now to win the MVP.
10:59Aaron Judge is a plus 170,
11:01only a few days left in the Major League Baseball season.
11:04If we took the odds out of it, Joe,
11:06minus 210 and plus 170,
11:08put these guys at both plus 100,
11:11who are you taking for AL MVP today to do it?
11:14Raleigh or Judge?
11:17Well, it's funny.
11:18I mean, Raleigh gets the 59th and 60 as home run.
11:21But again, Judge just did something
11:23that only three other players
11:24in Major League Baseball history have done.
11:27And that's it for 50 or more home runs
11:30in a fourth season here.
11:32That's, I mean, that's rare air
11:34we're talking about here, Donnie.
11:35It does not happen.
11:37And Judge did it again.
11:38And also, yeah, Judge could lead
11:41American League in hitting as well.
11:43So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:45So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:46So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:47So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:48So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:49So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:50So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:51So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:52So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:53So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:54So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:55So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:56So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:57So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:58So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
11:59So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
12:00So, yeah, Judge could lead to it now.
