00:00Short segment here to talk some Major League Baseball, so we want to get to some of these games that really matter at this point and have some angles on the postseason.
00:06We're going to start at 6.40 p.m. Eastern, 9.01, 9.02.
00:10That's the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds.
00:13You saw yesterday the Reds at home, a great pitching performance by Hunter Green.
00:17Imanaga will be on the mound for the Chicago Cubs today going up against Nick Lodolo, a slight favorite towards the Cubs in a total that's listed at 8.5 across the board.
00:25The Reds desperate for every single victory that they can get to try to make a wildcard playoff spot when the Cubs look like they're already locked in, won't be able to win that division.
00:35What happens today for the Cubs and the Reds, in your opinion?
00:38Well, they're going to have to get some, they're going to have to give Lodolo here an opportunity to play from in front.
00:46And they are in a battle here with the Mets for that final wildcard spot.
00:50So they are, they're going to need to bring some offense, the Reds.
00:54They scored, you know, again, one run there, which was hysterical, Donnie, just one run.
01:00But that usually means they've got a 9, 10 or 11 run game somewhere coming up.
01:05But I don't quite trust either offense here.
01:10I think the total under eight and a half here, I think the public's going to want to push it up and over at the great American small park.
01:17I think under might be the better way to go.
01:20The Cubs, not a lot to play for.
01:22The Reds, they could be, they could get a little tense here tonight and maybe not score as many as they should.
01:30And by the way, over the summer, you might have been paying attention to the Detroit Tigers.
01:33Like, yeah, of course they're going to win the division.
01:35They'll be in the playoffs, maybe even the favorites to win the World Series or at least the American League.
01:38If you haven't been paying attention, man, there is a free fall going on in Detroit where that lead is down to three and a half games.
01:44Because one, Cleveland won't lose, and two, Cleveland kept on beating the Detroit Tigers.
01:49Well, today, Atlanta's going to take the field.
01:51They're just playing spoiler right now.
01:52And Elder's really a bad pitcher, but not lately at this point.
01:55He's actually been on his P's and Q's.
01:57Charlie Morton gets the start for the Tigers.
01:59They're only, and this goes to show you, Morton is at home with the Tigers in first place at a minus 120 price.
02:05The pressure is starting to build for the Tigers.
02:07They need to bounce back in the biggest way.
02:09But I don't have a lot of confidence in them right now, Joe.
02:13Well, you can't.
02:14They can't hit.
02:15They're back to that.
02:16The starting pitching.
02:17I mean, if you can't win school ball starts or Flaherty starts or my starts, which you didn't, you get swept by the Guardians.
02:26Oh, yeah.
02:26By the way, you've got the Braves who would love to play spoiler the rest of the way.
02:32This is their last homestand, Donnie.
02:33You know who they have after this?
02:35It's the Cleveland Guardians for three games in Cleveland.
02:40So you think maybe they're tightening up a little bit?
02:43I mean, Charlie Morton hasn't gone more than four innings in any of his last three starts.
02:48He's walking, guys.
02:50He's 100 years old.
02:51And you mentioned it, though.
02:53You got to love Bryce Elder.
02:56He had four quality starts in a row, and then he got shellacked against Houston last time out.
03:02So which version do we get here tonight for Atlanta?
03:06Can't trust Detroit.
03:08Can't trust them here.
03:09Also, Arizona on their last legs and leg support here to try to make an NOL wildcard spot.
03:15The Phillies, as we know, have clinched the playoffs, have clinched their division, but still trying to track down the Brewers.
03:20I don't know if that's going to be the case.
03:21Tywin Walker's on the mound.
03:22Sometimes he is hit or miss.
03:24But Ryan Nelson, interesting choice here for the Diamondbacks.
03:27He's been very good at home this season.
03:29And you look at them as a slight favorite over the Philadelphia Phillies at a minus 120 price and a number listed between nine and nine and a half.
03:35I do think that's the right side and the right team that's favored here with Arizona.
03:40And I'm a big-time Phillies fan.
03:41I'll root for the Phillies.
03:42Hope they win.
03:43I just think the Diamondbacks might be the better play tonight out there in the desert, Joe.
03:46Yeah, and we could see, you know, a Walker-Buehler piggyback start here with Walker.
03:54It sounds like the Phillies might be mixing and matching their way through the end of the regular season.
04:00You know, Arizona's using a four-man rotation right now.
04:03They have been for the last couple of weeks just trying to—they're using their four best guys in order to be able to try to win as many games as possible.
04:11I do give the edge to Arizona at home with a whole lot more to play for.
04:16And they certainly have an advantage on the Hill here between Walker and Buehler, who is what may very well be a combination that not a lot of Philly fans are going to love here.
04:28Yeah, let's see if the Bats come to play tonight for the Snakes and see if they can win and try to hang around that playoff race for at least another day.
04:35Another team looking to hang around the playoff race is the Giants.
04:37They lost last night to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
04:39We thought that game would stay under, and it stayed way under.
04:42But tonight, maybe some history.
04:44Clayton Kershaw's last start for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
04:47They are a favorite at close to a minus 162 here to minus 168 to minus 175, depending where you're shopping.
04:53And by the way, that number jumped from a minus 136.
04:56Is this nostalgic betting that we're getting going against Robbie Ray, where Robbie Ray just stinks?
05:01And everyone's like, yeah, he stinks.
05:02I'm betting on the Dodgers tonight.
05:04Yeah, it's kind of crazy.
05:05I mean, Kershaw has played 18 Major League Baseball season, 60 starts, I believe, alone against the Giants.
05:14So 27 and 16, I believe, is his record.
05:18He has dominated them in his career.
05:22And boy, oh boy, is it going to be electric there with this announcement coming out yesterday.
05:27So, hey, I got no problem.
05:29If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
05:30He's owned him his career.
05:32He's probably going to own him one more time before it's all said and done.
05:36And you know what?
05:37I love this.
05:37I love this for one reason here, where the player himself is like, well, I could just retire like when it's all said and done.
05:43I had enough.
05:44No, the fans want to see you there.
05:46Get the emotion out there.
05:47It's not a game where it's like, oh, if we lose, you know, I can't believe we just started Clayton Kershaw because he wanted his moment.
05:52It's the perfect night to do that against your hated division rival.
05:56The people will show up, whether he goes five innings, two innings, six innings, bad performance or great performance.
06:02I love the fact that it's like, you know what?
06:04Clayton's hanging him up at the end of the season.
06:05I got to get out there and see him pitch tonight.
06:07You're going to get big time ratings out there for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
06:11Minnesota and Cleveland.
06:12Now, we just talked about Detroit collapsing.
06:14The team helping them collapse is Cleveland.
06:16Now, what you can't do, Joe, is handle your business against the Tigers, then go lose to a Minnesota team that's dead in the water and Pablo Lopez on the mound.
06:23But, however, Messick's on the mound for Cleveland.
06:26It's a pick-em game.
06:27Come on, Cleveland.
06:28We need to see some action in the final week of the season with a possible massive collapse for the Tigers.
06:34Can they do it tonight?
06:36Well, the only team worse than the Tigers down the stretch has been the Twins.
06:40I mean, they've lost 12 of their last 16 games this month here, Donnie.
06:44It is not good.
06:46But, you know, nothing to lose.
06:48Young guys playing.
06:49The Guardians, though, red hot here.
06:52It's kind of hard to go against them.
06:54Even with Lopez on the mound, still give the Guardians the leg up here against that bullpen of Minnesota in this game as well.
07:02Wouldn't that be something?
07:03By the way, we just saw one of those type of series.
07:05Like, hey, look at the upstart Rangers.
07:06They can take down the Astros.
07:08They got swept.
07:08Like, yeah, it was a fun season.
07:09Have a good time.
07:10I need to see Cleveland play well this weekend.
07:13Detroit slip up and be like, you know what?
07:14If Cleveland takes two out of three from Detroit next week, they're actually going to win the division.
07:19Unbelievable.
07:19Unbelievable.
07:20But as they say, that's baseball.
07:22One more segment to go next.
07:24That's better on the way.
07:30Sling it, Joe.
07:31Sling it, Joe.
07:32What do we got tonight?
07:34Where are we looking to go?
07:36Well, Donnie, listen, if it ain't broke, we're not going to fix it here.
07:41I think you got a couple of things going on.
07:43One, I love this pitching matchup between Boston and Tampa here today.
07:48Boston offensively a little bit challenged lately here, Donnie.
07:52Once they lost Roman Anthony, it's kind of fallen to pieces.
07:56Runs are hard to come by.
07:58They got to go to Tampa now and take on Rasmussen.
08:01They're in a battle here with the Yankees to try and at least maintain that third wildcard spot here or even catch them.
08:10Feels like this is going to be a tough one.
08:13When you got Crochet on the mound, I'm not trusting Tampa to get a ton of runs.
08:17And with Rasmussen on the mound, I'm not trusting the Red Sox to get a ton of runs.
08:21So to me, Donnie, this is all about an under.
08:2470 and a half.
08:25Both these teams could be pressing a little here with both of their number one guys on the mound tonight.
08:31I'm looking at the under here.
08:33Under seven and a half for Joe.
08:35For me, I'm going to go out to the deserts and I'm taking the snakes.
08:37Wait a second, Donnie.
08:39You love the Phillies.
08:40You can't come on now.
08:41When money is more important than fandom.
08:43I can root on my Philadelphia Phillies, but you can still have the correct side.
08:46I'm taking the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight on the money line as a slight favorite at minus 120.
08:51You take a look at Ryan Nelson on the season at home.
08:5475 and a third innings pitch, Joe.
08:56How about his ERA to 2.51?
08:58Now, I don't love ERA, but most people look at that as a baseline metric.
09:01How about his XFIP number?
09:02Very manageable, 3.63.
09:04What we typically get out of a performance of the Tyron Walker is your best guess.
09:09I know I'm going to probably get a solid performance out of Ryan Nelson.
09:12I'm going to ride the Diamondbacks who are fighting everything they can to make it into a wild card,
09:17which I probably don't think they're going to get.
09:18But the Phillies have clinched.
09:20They're probably settling into their number two seed in the NL.
09:22I'm going to take the snakes over my beloved Philadelphia Phillies on the money line tonight.
09:26Look at that, Joe.
09:27No bias.
09:28Sometimes you got to bet against your favorite team.
09:30It's the way it is.
09:30Yeah, I mean, you're going to have – it's so funny, right?
09:34You got Tawon Walker going there.
09:36You got Walker Bueller probably coming in right after that.
09:41So, right now, the Phillies are just trying to eat up as many innings as possible, Donnie,
09:45and get to the postseason.
09:47So, Arizona at home with Nelson on the mound, I think that's a great bet at that price.
09:53So, I think that's a great bet.
10:11Yeah.
