00:00which also includes the opening of Major League Baseball.
00:02To see yesterday, the Dodgers opened up.
00:04Will Ferrell driving the caddy onto the field.
00:06A couple World Series trophies looking to put a third in a row there.
00:10They hammered the Diamondbacks yesterday.
00:12And today, Joe, no surprise, Emmett Sheehan's on the mound.
00:15Look at that price point.
00:16Minus $2.25 money line for the Dodgers and a total of eight and a half.
00:20Those price points, they're going to be here all spring and summer long.
00:24Joe, what's your spread line?
00:26Yeah, that was an over last night, Donnie,
00:29with an A-2 Dodgers win there.
00:31I do think we are likely going to be looking at some more runs in this one.
00:37Obviously, not the same marquee pitching matchup that we had last night.
00:42But if we got 10 runs last night with a couple of aces on the mound,
00:46what are we going to get here tonight?
00:47I think the answer is more runs, Donnie, is what we're going to get.
00:51Major League, who catching?
00:53Because I'm pitching.
00:55Who said that, Joe?
00:55Let me ask you.
00:56Let me open up with that.
00:57Any idea who said that?
00:58Maybe down from your area in Miami, yayo?
01:01Huh?
01:02That's a good – is it Jennifer Lopez?
01:05I have no idea.
01:06Who said that?
01:07Close.
01:07Close.
01:08Rick Ross.
01:08Close.
01:09Rick Ross.
01:09Oh, yeah.
01:10Well, yeah.
01:10Perfect segue.
01:11Different.
01:12Close.
01:14Perfect segue right in here to talk about the New York Mets
01:16and the Pittsburgh Pirates here.
01:1711 – wait, 11 to 7 yesterday.
01:20I thought two aces were on the mound yesterday.
01:22Well, Paul Skeens, he's teed up here from the WBC.
01:25Ain't no way he's not dominating on opening day until you watch that game.
01:29And Paul Skeens went two-thirds of an innings pitch, four hits, five earned runs, one strikeout,
01:33two walks, and pulled out of the game.
01:35No thanks to his center fielder.
01:38This is a man that's got like a one ERA.
01:40Starting the season, Joe, 67.5 is his ERA.
01:45You don't like to see that in the paper the next day.
01:48Right.
01:49Well, I mean, he did last two-thirds of an inning, Donnie.
01:51Let's give him a little credit.
01:53He did.
01:53Yeah.
01:54And should have obviously been out of that inning not once but twice.
01:58If his shortstop wasn't playing center field, it could actually catch a fly ball.
02:03But, you know, listen, it happens.
02:05You know, it's got one thing.
02:06Let's not conflate the fact that he pitched in the world base as some sort of explanation as to what
02:13happened yesterday.
02:1480-degree day, warm day going on, ball traveling off the bat in this.
02:20It is what it is.
02:21He'll be fine.
02:22But the 67 ERA that he has right now, it might take him a little while to get that thing
02:27back under control.
02:29By the way, Philly's also dodged a bullet on Mr. Bo Dante Bichette.
02:34I'd like to call him 0 for 4 yesterday.
02:36Take that, Mets fans.
02:37But here's Paul Skeen.
02:38He should be saying, well, what do you want me to do when my defense thinks this bad?
02:42You got to look at it for what it is.
02:45You know, there wasn't a ton of hard contact.
02:50Lead-off walk is not great.
02:54But, yeah, you know, some balls landed that, or, you know, the Polanco ground ball, you know, stuff like that.
03:05So, it's just, you know, the, it's like the batting average on balls in play thing was super high today.
03:15And that'll go down as the season goes on.
03:17Mets were really grinding at bats.
03:19How frustrating was that being?
03:21Yeah, they did a really good job.
03:25In the moment, I don't know, maybe a little frustrating, but just got to execute, you know, earlier.
03:35Yeah, they did a good job.
03:37It's a good teammate, Joe, when he says, ah, some balls landed.
03:40You know what that meant.
03:43Yeah, well, they landed, all right, over your center fielder's head, in front of your center fielder.
03:48So, yes, they absolutely landed.
03:51But he was very good there in not mentioning any of that or throwing anybody under the bus.
03:58So, you know, it wasn't like he only went two-thirds of an inning, Donnie.
04:02So, it wasn't like he had a lot going on.
04:05And he kind of just left out two pretty important plays there.
04:09But you live.
04:11It's only game one of 162.
04:13He'll be fine.
04:14By the way, you take a look at the Southsiders of Chicago.
04:17Hey, it's a new year.
04:18We stunk last year.
04:19It looks like it's going to stink again this year.
04:21They're 14-2 the final.
04:23The Milwaukee Brewers hammered the Chicago White Sox at this point here.
04:26Mizorowski was on the mound.
04:27Five innings pitched.
04:28Two hits.
04:30One earned run.
04:3111 strikeouts through those five innings here.
04:33He was moving it.
04:34And also, we've got some action from the Miz right here.
04:37Let's get to it.
04:38First opening day is wild.
04:40There's a lot of stuff going on.
04:41You know, giant flag throughout the, you know, outfield.
04:45So, it's cool to see.
04:47But, yeah, it was, there's a lot of emotions going through.
04:51Trying to figure it out.
04:52And then, yeah, giving up the home run sucks.
04:54But, you know, the guy got to it and threw it up and in.
04:57And he got to it and handled it.
04:59So, oh, well, move on.
05:02You almost look like a carving copy of the Comes Game 5 game.
05:07Yeah.
05:08Then came back to Domitown.
05:10Yeah.
05:11What is it that allows you to keep?
05:14You're a tough ring.
05:15Is this maturity coming from Dan Derbeau's Worldwide?
05:18Yeah.
05:19I mean, I mean, like, it also comes from, like, it's my job to get five innings
05:24and work for the team and help them be successful in the game.
05:27And, you know, you also have Bill back there.
05:30That's a huge help as well.
05:33Big Miz, the new ace there in Milwaukee with Peralta moving on to New York, Joe.
05:38Yeah.
05:39I mean, I think the future is bright, Donnie, to say the least,
05:43for the kid there.
05:44And, you know, you think about they didn't start with him in the season last year.
05:48They kind of brought him up.
05:49There was, should he be up?
05:51Should he not?
05:51And he was a, you know, he was a big part of their success last year.
05:55He's going to be an even bigger part of anything that Milwaukee is going to do this year.
05:59Some interesting scores from yesterday, which included, hey, the Cubs are going to walk
06:02away with that Central Division, and it's a home game at Wrigley.
06:05Let's open up the season and have some fun.
06:07You'll have fun.
06:07Yesterday was the Nationals, Joe.
06:0910-4 victory there.
06:10And also, how about those Angels?
06:12A 3-0 victory over the Astros.
06:14Opening day, always a lot of fun, and dogs certainly can climb up.
06:17And some dogs got beat up yesterday.
06:19Some dogs rose to the occasion, huh?
06:22I mean, the Washington one was hilarious, but the wind was crazy in that game, Donnie.
06:28But it only seemed to work for the Nats, as the weather was certainly favoring them,
06:33and so was the style of ball there.
06:36But again, you know, a lot of people had Washington losing the most games this year.
06:40You can't be happy, Donnie, if you're holding that ticket, and you watch them get a blowout
06:44win on the first day.
06:46Not great.
06:47Let me ask you a question, Joe, too.
06:49When you open up the season in Major League Baseball, like opening day, a lot of fun,
06:53day games here.
06:54And maybe you don't want to have too many day games, because if opening day was on a
06:57Monday, why would you do it on a Tuesday and a Wednesday, right?
06:59People have to work.
07:00But on a Friday to open the season, which some teams are opening their season tonight,
07:04Joe, it's a limited card on a Friday, which makes absolutely no sense.
07:08The first game and the only day game is actually played on the West Coast, 435.
07:12The rest are night games here.
07:14And as you look, like, yeah, baseball is just getting started.
07:16One game Wednesday, almost a full slate on Thursday.
07:19And then Friday, you go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 games here, instead of everybody playing
07:25on a Friday.
07:27It's supposed to be your biggest gates on a Friday, Joe.
07:29I'm already getting upset about the Major League Baseball season.
07:31We're only two games in.
07:33All right, Donnie.
07:34I mean, you want to talk about some monster matchups here.
07:36I mean, the Rockies are taking on the Marlins tonight.
07:39And I mean, it's got, I mean, I don't think there's going to be an empty seat in the,
07:44no, who are we kidding there?
07:46But also, by the way, I shouldn't go unnoticed, too, how what Tariq Skubal did yesterday,
07:51which was business as usual.
07:54And the Tigers all of a sudden look like, yeah, kind of what I thought we'd get from
07:59the Tigers.
08:00So, and Framber in a, I believe now, you know, there's a couple of guys, Donnie, I saw
08:05in different uniforms yesterday where I'm like, oh, oh yeah, that's right.
08:08He plays with them now.
08:09So, it's going to take a little while here to get used to it this season.
08:13Take a screenshot of the game, as you said, Joe, down on South Beach tonight, 7, 10 p.m.
08:18Freeland's on the mound versus Alcantara.
08:20The Marlins are close to a 2-1 favorite in this game.
08:26Take a screenshot of that and relive it here, as Joe points out.
08:28But also, other matchups a little bit later tonight.
08:31Arizona going to get a second shot there at the Los Angeles Dodgers.
08:33Cleveland, who beat Seattle on opening day.
08:36Williams versus Kirby, and another heavy favorite for Seattle there.
08:39So, we have some good stuff.
08:39And also, understand this.
08:41The ace on the staff in Detroit is not Framber Valdez, who was the ace of the Astros last
08:46year.
08:46He's the number two.
08:47He's on the mound today, looking to go 2-0 in San Diego for Detroit.
08:51And by the way, it's a slight dog price to Michael King in that game.
08:56Yeah, that's an interesting price, to say the least here, Donnie.
09:00But the bats need to do something there, because they were shut down, not just by Scoble, but
09:05by that bullpen of Detroit here, who, listen, I think they're ready to take that next step.
09:12Scoble Valdez is not exactly an easy 1-2 to start a series there.
09:16Yeah, weather shouldn't be too bad today, either.
09:18You take a look at that Giants game.
09:19It is in the afternoon, Joe.
09:20We're in the mid-70s there, so that should help out Toronto.
09:22We know it's a dome.
09:23Miami is a dome on South Beach.
09:25Atlanta should be close to 80 degrees.
09:27Houston's a dome.
09:27San Diego is San Diego.
09:28Seattle there has a dome, and also LALA.
09:31So you're not worried about any of those, hey, Joe, windier conditions, freezing cold
09:36temperatures.
09:36You should get a pretty clean run today, as it turns out, with some more good stuff.
09:40And by the way, put this graphic up here.
09:42Hey, Joe, did you ever sue your parents for stealing your money here?
09:45Three million bucks.
09:46He wants his money back from his parents.
09:48His parents might say, hey, I gave you the allowance all the way long since you were five
09:52years old.
09:52You owe me money, kid.
09:56That's what it is, Donnie Wright.
09:58You can pick your friends.
09:59You can't pick your family.
10:01Sorry about that, Alc.
10:02Lesson learned.
10:04They Ponzi scheme their own son.
10:06Tough scene at this point.
10:07You know what?
10:08Three-run home run yesterday.
10:09My man's okay.
10:10And we'll be right back every week.
10:12Good break.
10:14Prediction Market's Edge on the early line on a Friday.
10:17Fun in Major League Baseball is opening day, opening week, opening month.
10:21What is it, baseball?
10:22New teams hitting the diamond today, and a lot of fun to be had.
10:25It's Donnie Wright's out here, along with Joe Ranieri.
10:27And also, Tom Vecchio.
10:29Tom, welcome into the program on a Friday.
10:30Love to have you.
10:32Yeah, we have opening days, multiple days for the teams to get going.
10:37But, you know, I'm excited for baseball season.
10:40You know, everything's starting fresh.
10:41We are dealing with, you know, an interesting part of the year.
10:44We're trying to get a feel for different players, different pitchers, lineups, etc., etc.
10:47But I'm excited.
10:49By the way, Tom, let's have some fun.
10:51Yesterday, the Dodgers opened up their season.
10:53A lot of fanfare.
10:53The stadium looked beautiful out there yesterday.
10:55You know, the gold-tinted uniforms, always a good touch.
10:59They drove around with Will Ferrell.
11:00They had a couple World Series trophies here, looking for their third in a row.
11:03So, let's go to the predictive markets here.
11:05Best pro baseball record.
11:07It's no surprise that it's Dodgers listed at 52%.
11:10But how about this, Tom?
11:12Trading in second place at 22% as a chance.
11:16Woo, them Philadelphia Phillies with an opening day victory over Eovaldi.
11:20E-A-G-L-E-S.
11:22No, it's the fight in Phils, baby.
11:24The team in the town here in Philly.
11:27Certainly an interesting market.
11:29You know, when it comes down to it, I don't like the Dodgers just because I think we're
11:32all in agreement that the Dodgers may take their foot off the gas at a certain point.
11:36You know, the Phillies could certainly challenge them, but the Phillies are in a tough division.
11:38I wouldn't go to the Yankees just because I think the ALEs, everyone's just going to beat
11:42each other up at a certain point, and no one's going to be pulling away.
11:45You know, to me, it's the Mariners.
11:47I really think that the Mariners could end with the best regular season record just because
11:51we're not worried about the Angels.
11:52I think Houston's going to be worse than they were last year.
11:55I'm high on the Rangers, but I don't expect them to be dramatically better, and I think
11:59the Astros are the team that, excuse me, not the Astros, the Mariners are the team going
12:02to pull ahead because we don't have to be worried about the Astros as we're year in
12:06and year out.
12:07I think they're the team to be interested in at this point.
12:09Yeah.
12:11It's the same old, same old time, right?
12:13But hey, Brooke, let's not fix it there.
12:15How about the, might of after yesterday, how about some of the worst baseball that we might
12:21get this year?
12:22Because I think the White Sox are going, hey, hold my beer.
12:26You think that was bad last year?
12:27Wait till you see what we got this year.
12:30Yeah.
12:30I still have a position on Washington to have the worst record, or I should say the fewest
12:35wins is the actual terminology.
12:38You know, the Rockies are coming off an unbelievably terrible season, historically bad.
12:42But really, the differential between the Rockies and the Nationals, the Rockies and the White
12:47Sox, isn't as big as the odds would suggest.
12:49So, I know the Nats came out firing yesterday, put up a ton of hits and a ton of runs.
12:53But frankly, I'd be looking to the Nats or the White Sox still.
12:56I wouldn't be looking to the Rockies.
12:57Like, it's not a foregone conclusion that they're going to blow as many leads as they
13:01did last year.
13:02They're not going to convert as many wins as they had last year.
13:05So, I'd be looking to one of those other teams rather than the Rockies.
13:09And by the way, Tom and I have talked a lot here at Pro Baseball today.
13:12Those Minnesota Twins are very interesting here because they're currently trading, Tom,
13:15in second at a 15% chance to have the worst record.
13:18And as we know, sold off a lot of players last year.
13:21You may sell off even more at the deadline, which means tanking in the second half of the
13:25season, maybe leading up to a lockout here.
13:28Another fun market here, Tom, on the predictive marketplace is the Pro Baseball Championship
13:32Series matchup.
13:33So, who gets to the World Series from the National League and the American League?
13:36And it just feels like now, Tom, it's, okay, just put the Dodgers in the National League
13:40and just try to pick the favorite here who's going to get there from the American League.
13:44And the favorite right now matchup, it's Seattle and it's Los Angeles at a 48% chance.
13:50How about that?
13:51That is just way too rich for my blood.
13:54Like, having a nearly 50% chance one game of the season.
13:58I think if you're looking to have a position and really play a long game on this,
14:03I think Boston and the New York Mets, and, you know, we get a really good equity on that
14:08just because the Mets, that means they're overcoming the Phillies, they're overcoming
14:11the Dodgers, all these sorts of things, and the Cubs.
14:13And then same thing with the Red Sox.
14:15They're overcoming the Mariners who are the favorites, the Yankees, all these things.
14:17So, we're getting a nice position on two teams that realistically should be in the hunt
14:21when it's all said and done.
14:22And they're nowhere near the favorite.
14:24So, I like that position on them.
14:27Yeah.
14:28Well, if you like them, who wins it, Tom?
14:30Who do you think, where's the value right now for that?
14:33You know, for me, it would come down to right now the Mets just based on how much further
14:37down they are in the marketplace.
14:40But I also trust their pitching staff.
14:42It's not saying I don't trust the Red Sox.
14:43They have some young pitchers that could be calling up, you know, some young pitchers from
14:47the minors.
14:48But the Mets just have a good depth when it comes to pitching.
14:51You know, Sean Minaya is starting in the bullpen for the Mets overall.
14:53And, you know, if someone were to get hurt, and I'm not saying he's the best starter,
14:56but if you can have him as a sixth guy to come out of the bullpen and be a spot
15:00starter
15:00just to eat up innings, that's not too bad.
15:03For me, the Red Sox, they still need to get one more pitcher because their lineup, I think,
15:07is going to score a ton of runs this year.
15:08But they need one more pitcher after Garrett Crochet that we saw after some of the additions
15:13in the offseason.
15:13But I really do like them both this year.
15:16Yeah, I do.
15:17I think Boston's going to be a fun team to watch, certainly here.
15:19But Seattle's going to get a lot of hype.
15:20Even though they lost opening day, and I know you can't overreact on that, but understand
15:24this, too.
15:24On the Cowshoe Marketplace to win the World Series, Los Angeles hammered the Diamondbacks
15:29yesterday.
15:30They actually went down, Tom, one-tenth of a percent in their market cap here at this
15:35point.
15:35So everybody looking towards the Dodgers, and rightfully so.
15:38There's no question about it.
15:39Seattle, New York, both New York teams, I should say, the Yankees and the Mets in there,
15:42along with Boston and Philadelphia.
15:44But how about some of the market movers over the past 30 days?
15:47And even with SportsGrid tracking it, did you know, SportsGrid here, who will win the
15:512026 World Series?
15:53Prediction.
15:54It's the Blue Jays here this year.
15:56But you look at those biggest market movers.
15:57The Red Sox, I like them.
15:58The Brewers, big day yesterday.
16:00And how about the Astros, Tom?
16:02Are you buying the Astros, Tom?
16:04Come on now.
16:04We're not buying them, are we?
16:05No.
16:06Can't be buying the Brewers or the Astros.
16:08Just the Brewers did nothing in the offseason.
16:10They lost talent when it was all said and done.
16:13On the Astros, you know, I just can't get past, like, the lineup.
16:17It's just really not that good.
16:18The back end of the rotation is just not that good.
16:21Josh Hader starting the year on IL is not a comforting thing.
16:24Frankly, I think there are far more interesting teams in both, obviously, outside of the Dodgers
16:30in the NL.
16:31But neither of those teams, Brewers, Astros, out on them.
16:36Looking so forward.
16:37I mean, you've got to love it here, Tom, right?
16:39Because we've got so many teams that the public, you can tell right off the bat, loved on opening
16:45day.
16:46Now we're, there are some, I mean, there is some kryptonite out there.
16:50There are some teams, I think, that are still a little bit overvalued.
16:54Who would you point to?
16:55I mean, great job, Milwaukee.
16:56But I still think they're going to be terrible this year.
16:59Who are some of those teams that you'd look to avoid?
17:02It would be the Padres, first and foremost.
17:04And I don't want to look at yesterday as like, oh, you know, they lost big, they put up,
17:09you know, gave up a ton of runs, all these sorts of things.
17:11But with Nick Pavetta, Michael King, Randy Vasquez, like, that's just not a really good
17:17top end of a rotation.
17:18I know Joe Musgrove's on his way back.
17:20Herman Marquez is there, Walker Buehler.
17:22I think the lineup is great and the bullpen is fantastic.
17:25There's no doubt about it.
17:26But the pitching staff, the starting pitching staff isn't good enough for them to consistently
17:30get to the bullpen for Mason Miller to shine.
17:32So I think the name brand value that the hitters have is overvaluing them in the marketplace.
