In a major breakthrough in the gruesome Perambur suitcase murder case, Chennai Police have arrested a woman and her friend for allegedly murdering her husband, dismembering his body and disposing of the remains at multiple locations.

The severed head of Ameer Ali, a native of Assam whose torso was found inside an abandoned suitcase at Perambur Railway Station on June 5, was recovered from Kolavai Lake in Chengalpattu on June 8.

The case came to light when Railway Protection Force personnel discovered a suspicious suitcase at Perambur Railway Station. Upon opening it, they found a decomposed headless torso, later identified as Ameer Ali.

Police said the investigation began with a pair of trousers found on the body. Using a barcode on the garment, investigators traced it to a shop in T. Nagar and obtained the mobile number of the purchaser.

Analysis of the phone's location data revealed frequent movement between T. Nagar and Teynampet. Further inquiries showed links to a cancer hospital in Teynampet, where staff identified a woman caregiver who regularly accompanied patients.

Investigators also recovered red and yellow plastic covers from the crime scene, which were identified as biomedical disposal bags used at a hospital in Taramani. This led police to examine records of employees who handled such materials.

Meanwhile, CCTV analysis helped investigators identify a suspicious Rapido auto-rickshaw. By tracking its movements and matching them with booking records, police traced the suspects' residence in Teynampet and arrested them.

According to police, the accused have been identified as Rahima Khatun (30), the victim's wife, and her friend Asraf Ali (36), both natives of Assam.

During interrogation, Rahima allegedly told police that she worked as a broker arranging travel and accommodation for cancer patients from other states. She claimed that her husband was involved with other women and frequently assaulted her, causing severe mental distress. Police said she had shared these allegations with Asraf Ali, after which the duo allegedly conspired to kill Ameer Ali.

Investigators said the accused allegedly mixed sleeping tablets in the victim's milk on June 2. After he lost consciousness, they allegedly slit his throat, killing him.

Police said the accused then dismembered the body, placed the headless torso inside a suitcase and abandoned it at Perambur Railway Station on June 5. During questioning, they allegedly revealed that the severed head had been concealed in the Chengalpattu area, while the arms and legs were thrown into the Buckingham Canal near their residence in Teynampet.

Based on information provided by the accused, police recovered the severed head from Kolavai Lake and later recovered the victim's arms and legs from the Buckingham Canal.

Further investigation is underway.
