Mother, Lover Accused in Death of 5-Year-Old Girl: Bengaluru Case Surfaces Three Months Later

A woman and her alleged lover have been accused of murdering her five-year-old daughter in Bengaluru, with the case coming to light nearly three months after the child's death following a complaint filed by the girl's father.

The victim, Vennila, reportedly died on March 24. Her father, Praveen, later approached the police, alleging that his wife, Priyanka, and her alleged lover, Mohan, were responsible for the child's death.

Praveen, a native of Davanagere, married Bengaluru resident Priyanka in 2007. The couple have two daughters aged 17 and 5.

According to police, Priyanka reconnected with her college friend Mohan a few years ago, and the two allegedly developed a close relationship before eventually living together. Following disputes over the relationship, Priyanka had reportedly been seeking a divorce.

Police said Priyanka was living with Mohan along with her younger daughter at the time of the incident.

Investigators found discrepancies in Priyanka's explanations regarding the child's sudden death. On one occasion, she allegedly told family members that she had fed the girl biryani. At another time, she reportedly claimed that she had given the child ice cream and left her sleeping inside an air-conditioned car.

She later stated that she returned home and found the girl dead the following morning.

Suspicion deepened when Praveen shared the post-mortem report with a relative who is a doctor working abroad. After reviewing the report, the relative reportedly raised concerns about possible foul play.

Based on those observations, Praveen filed a police complaint alleging that his daughter had been assaulted and suffocated to death.

Police have arrested Mohan in connection with the case, while Priyanka is currently absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend her.

Investigators said they are awaiting the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, which is expected to provide further clarity on the cause and circumstances of the child's death.

Further investigation is ongoing.
