A 27-year-old woman employed at the Palghar District Collector's Office was critically injured after being allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon in broad daylight in Maharashtra's Palghar city, police said.

The incident took place near the Gold Cinema area at around 6:30 pm, triggering panic among local residents. According to preliminary information, the attacker repeatedly struck the woman on her neck and waist before fleeing the scene.

The victim, identified as Snehal Sawant, was living in a rented accommodation near the Gold Cinema area. She sustained serious injuries and was initially rushed to Palghar Rural Hospital for emergency treatment before being shifted to a private hospital in Boisar for advanced medical care.

Police suspect the attack may have stemmed from a dispute related to a personal relationship. Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused, identified as Amol Mule, allegedly attacked Sawant following tensions between them. Officials said Mule is believed to be employed at the Bombay High Court.

Palghar Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh confirmed the incident and said the exact motive is still under investigation. He visited the crime scene and also met the injured woman to gather information about the attack.

Soon after the incident, officers from Palghar Police Station, led by Police Inspector Anant Parad, reached the spot and launched an investigation. A forensic team was also deployed to collect evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events.

Police have formed multiple teams to trace the accused, who remains absconding. Authorities said efforts are underway to locate and arrest him at the earliest.

While investigators are examining all possible angles, officials said a dispute arising out of a romantic relationship remains one of the primary lines of inquiry.

The incident has sparked concern among residents over the violent attack in a busy part of the city. Police have assured that a thorough investigation is underway and that strict legal action will be taken once the accused is apprehended.
