00:00All right, check some of these comments, text line.
00:04Look at all you with your phones out there today.
00:08Thank you for listening.
00:09Thank you for being locked in on a Monday.
00:11Thank you for engaging with the show.
00:15925, fans are complicit.
00:17If they are giving the team money, they are giving tacit approval to be mediocre.
00:23It's Pac Bell's fault.
00:25Let's call it Oracle.
00:26The park is damn near perfect.
00:29I mean, there you go.
00:31Except for that triples alley.
00:33That thing's got to be fixed.
00:34Well, you've got to move that sucker in.
00:35Bryce Eldridge is really going to get a migraine.
00:37Yeah, no doubt.
00:39Wait a minute.
00:40Wait a minute.
00:40Can we jump off the ride for a second?
00:42Sure.
00:43Quick aside.
00:44Bryce Eldridge is out of control.
00:47I'm out here getting excited by walks.
00:52Walks.
00:53He's working 0-2 counts into walks.
00:57Do you understand what it means when you're 21, 8 feet tall, unlimited power, and working
01:05walks from 0-2 counts?
01:08Dude.
01:10Dude.
01:11I got him at number three right now in my Bay Area under 23-year-old athlete rankings.
01:19Under 23?
01:20How'd you come up with that number?
01:21I just made it up on the spot.
01:22Anyway, who's number one is Macklin?
01:23Macklin's celebrity number one.
01:24And who's number two?
01:26Ponds.
01:31And there's the punchline.
01:33That's the whole bit.
01:34I think people want to punch you.
01:36That's fine.
01:36It's a Monday.
01:37I mean, it's a nice day, and everyone's in a good mood.
01:39And even though the Giants patently stink, yeah, you still show up because it is the ballpark's fault.
01:46Wow.
01:46It's your fault, ballpark.
01:47Now they've also got a young player we want to watch.
01:50Right.
01:51And by the way, a couple other things, too.
01:53Like, that's the weird thing about this team.
01:56The weird thing about this team, and I think what makes it kind of frustrating, is there's
02:02a lot of dudes on this team I kind of like pulling for.
02:07And I see a future for them.
02:10You know, Jung-Hoo Lee has completely flipped the script here in the last month, month and
02:16a half.
02:16He's having a breakout season.
02:18That's a keeper.
02:20Casey Schmidt, I don't care that he's a little snake bit for a week or whatever.
02:24Like, that's a keeper.
02:27Logan Webb looks like Logan Webb again.
02:32Daniel Susak is an interesting young player.
02:36To me, at this moment, that's a keeper.
02:39I know we keep oscillating back and forth on Matt Chapman, who's now just a god again.
02:44Two weeks ago, people were sending him death threats.
02:47Now you can't get him out.
02:49But, like, go around the diamond, and there's some things about the Giants right now that
02:58it on a person-by-person basis we're kind of into.
03:02And that, I think that helps what we're talking about as well.
03:05It does.
03:06And, yeah.
03:07I mean, Logan Webb, when he pitches, you want to go out there.
03:09And even though the bullpen is kind of a disaster, that doesn't really deter you.
03:13And here we are in the early days of summer, right?
03:17Kids are all out now, even your kids who had to go to school in June.
03:20I don't understand that.
03:21But summer's out, and you're looking for things to do with your kids.
03:25And Oracle Park, Pac Bell, SBC, whatever you want to call it, depending on how far back you go,
03:32it's a great place to go.
03:33And if you want to get your tickets in advance or, you know, you can just wait and see how
03:38that they're not really good, ticket prices have come down quite dramatically.
03:42And so it becomes an affordable thing to do with your kids because, as you know,
03:47and your kids now are old enough to where you only have the one, really, the F to entertain.
03:51Totally.
03:51He's 12.
03:52But still, it's like, what am I going to do with this kid all day?
03:56Oh, Giants.
03:57Right.
03:58Like, I mean, yeah, we're looking ahead at Saturdays throughout the summer.
04:01And it's like, if we're in town and the Giants are in town, that's sort of,
04:04that's kind of one of the first few options you start thinking about.
04:08Right.
04:09No question.
04:10Let's see.
04:12650.
04:13Oh, no.
04:14This is another 925.
04:15It says, this was the Cubs problem decades ago.
04:21Even one of their managers totally called out all of the unemployed losers going to games
04:28to watch a terrible team.
04:30I don't think that all the Bay Area folks going to Giants games are unemployed losers.
04:35I think we've arrived at a perfect storm of city and post-COVID and industry where a lot
04:45of people, in fact, who are very employed.
04:48In fact, the more employed you are, the more likely you are to be able to be in the middle
04:53of the city on a sunny Wednesday at 1230, being like, yeah, I walked over there last Wednesday
05:03and, like, I got five friends there.
05:05They're all very employed.
05:07Yep.
05:09Wednesday, they just took the day off, went to the Giants game.
05:13Giants won 11 to 10, as it turned out.
05:1532,000, almost 500.
05:18And over the weekend, they went 38, 35, and 40 on Sunday to watch a team that is sloppy.
05:25They don't do anything well.
05:27They hit occasionally.
05:29Their offense has been good.
05:30Their starting pitching is spotty outside of Logan Webb.
05:33Their bullpen is a joke.
05:36And defensively, they're not crisp and clean.
05:38They don't run.
05:40They don't hit and run.
05:41They don't bunt and run very often.
05:43Yet, it's a team that you can go out there and watch.
05:45And I do think part of it, too, Mark, is baseball over the last, I guess, three or four years
05:50has become, in and of itself, a lot more watchable.
05:53You get a game, like yesterday, two hours and 40.
05:57Friday, two hours and 30.
05:59The game is crisper.
06:01So even if you're a casual and you're not, like, totally locked in on the fact that this
06:05team is not very good, like, let's go to the Giants game.
06:07Yep.
06:08Yep.
06:08It is.
06:08It is.
06:09See, that tone.
06:10You hear that tone in your voice?
06:11Let's go to the Giants game.
06:12It's not like, dude, let's go to the Giants game.
06:14Let's go to the Giants game.
06:16It's like, we've got nothing better to do.
06:18It's going to be a little cloudy at Stinson, and I don't feel like going all the way out
06:21to the zoo, so let's go to the Giants game.
06:23Drake and Roosevelt texted in and said, maybe the fans keep showing up so they can be the
06:28people who say, quote, hey, I was there when we were terrible, so I'm a real fan.
06:33I keep telling people, you can say that no matter if you were there or not.
06:37Right.
06:38It's kind of like that comedy sketch when people say, why are you going to college?
06:42So that I can say that I was a college graduate.
06:46You can just say that now and save yourself $250,000.
06:51just say i was a college graduate that's expensive just use the words you can yes i know you can
06:58do
06:58it for less than a quarter mil but it doesn't really feel like that right now depends on where
07:01you go uh and depends on what your marital status is my divorce was the best thing for my kids
07:07and
07:07their higher education you probably shouldn't be saying this into a microphone but you're right
07:11why like yeah no it's i mean it was all about board completely about i know i know and uh
07:16you
07:16know daddy warbucks moved out and so uh you know she's working she doesn't even know whatever the
07:22kids were able to uh yeah kids were able to uh go to school capitalize yes on that but yes
07:28uh if you
07:29want to send your kid to like i don't know boise state it might be 50 grand a year and
07:34uh you might
07:34be looking at too large for four years a little less but gotta make that wooey you know what the
07:39wooey is uh no yeah the woo the wooey uh is an acronym for and i can't i don't know
07:45western
07:46united states something or other but it's a a network of schools that are not in california
07:52where you don't pay the full out of state rate like there's the out of state rate and then there's
07:58the in-state rate and then there's the wooey which is right in the middle gotcha but you got to
08:02qualify
08:02for the wooey and each of the wooey schools has like a different qualification process qualification
08:08sensation i get that but so sometimes you're accepted to the wooey sometimes you're not
08:13and then once you get the wooey then you gotta uphold the wooey by getting good grades
08:18gotcha right so i've never heard this this is phenomenal yeah look it up wooey well i mean
08:25i'm a good uh 15 years away from the next one going to college and by then look it up
08:30your boy uh
08:31probably won't be worried about the wooey that's a stat i'll be casket shopping look it up
08:37that's a casket well someone would she might be worried about the wooey whether you're here or
08:42not and i like your chances she's gonna be all right i know she's gonna be all right she's gonna
08:46pull through oh i know she's gonna pull through doesn't mean she's gonna be smart with it get the
08:50wooey i'll look into it save yourself some money put some money away don't take a student loan
08:56take a wooey i like it you know what i'm saying i've never heard of the wooey you educated me
09:02today
