00:00So why do you think the Giants still can't hit?
00:03Is this a player thing?
00:04Is it a coaching staff thing?
00:06Is it a front office thing?
00:09And I mentioned earlier, I thought last night was Tony Vitello's worst night as a manager.
00:14I'll explain that more in just a second.
00:16We can get into it.
00:18But I largely don't think this is on Tony Vitello.
00:21I don't really know exactly.
00:23You know, this is one of those situations where I'm like, what do you want him to do?
00:27What exactly, what do you want him to do?
00:30I mean, Bo Rucky, what are we doing?
00:33And sure, I would have pinch hit for Bailey in the ninth.
00:36But we're nitpicking here when you're three and eight and you don't score runs and you don't hit homers
00:41and you don't get outs and you don't catch the ball and you don't throw the ball and you don't,
00:45don't, don't, don't, don't.
00:46I can't get on the manager.
00:48But let's hold that conversation for a second.
00:50Check this out.
00:51From the files of, hey, when are some other people going to play?
00:55We have the answer.
00:56Okay.
00:56In the answers tonight, April 7th, 2026.
01:01Facing a lefty, I believe.
01:02So that probably informed some of the moves.
01:05Not just a lefty.
01:06You're facing a good one.
01:08This is Christopher Sanchez of the Philadelphia Phillies.
01:11He is elite and he will be pitching against the Giants tonight.
01:15That's why I asked you in the crossover.
01:16I wonder what the over-under is just for Giants runs tonight.
01:19Because if it's higher than one and a half, I'd say take the under.
01:23Wow.
01:23But anyway, here's the lineup.
01:25Adamas, Chapman, arise.
01:29Ramos, Devers, Casey Schmidt.
01:33Okay.
01:33Is DH-ing.
01:35In right field and batting seventh, Gerard Encarnacion.
01:41Okay.
01:41Jung-Hoo Lee, take a seat.
01:44Batting eighth and catching, Daniel Susak.
01:49Okay.
01:49Can't get him out.
01:50Patrick Bailey, take a seat.
01:52And batting ninth and playing center field.
01:56And getting ready for his first at-bats.
01:59As a San Francisco Giant, Gerard Oliva.
02:03Harrison Bader, take a seat.
02:06Okay.
02:06So there you go.
02:07I don't hate it when you've got Jung-Hoo Lee with an OPS of .499 and Harrison Bader .408 and
02:16the other one would be Patrick Bailey .335.
02:23Not a batting average.
02:24I didn't even think that was possible.
02:25Not a batting average.
02:26That's his OPS?
02:26Yes.
02:27His batting average and his slugging are 129.
02:33So, yeah, you're four for 31 with no extras, no dubs, no trips, no bomb skis.
02:42So, yeah, you might want to just, I don't know, shake something up.
02:45Yep.
02:46Because, I mean, you keep your mainstays in there and you hope they get out of it.
02:50And just looking at Devers and some of his advanced analytics, the stat cast and all the rest of it.
02:56He did have two last night that were hard hit balls that resulted in outs.
03:01He was the only Giant not to get a hit.
03:03So I do think that some of his things might turn around.
03:06But the biggest issue, these guys swing and miss a lot.
03:09They swing and miss a lot, which is fine if you also hit a lot of dongs.
03:13Right.
03:14But they don't.
03:14They've got four.
03:16Yep.
03:17Four home runs.
03:18I would imagine that's last in baseball.
03:21By a mile.
03:22Okay.
03:23I was looking at their one pinch hit at bat, and that's tied for last with the Angels.
03:29By the way, I'd also argue that at least two of the four home runs were of that variety where
03:34you're like,
03:34oh, great, now you hit one.
03:36Like, you're up 7-1.
03:37You're up 7-1, and now it's 8-1.
03:39Like, good on you.
03:40You know what I mean?
03:41I think Devers took a 6-2 game to 7-2.
03:46Chapman piled on in that first night in San Diego when that game was already well decided.
03:51The only two home runs that have come in a moment where you're like, bleep, yeah, let's go,
03:56was the very first one of the year when Harrison Bader hit one that got them going in San Diego.
04:01And then I think the very next night, if I'm not mistaken,
04:04Willie Adamas led off the game with a homer.
04:07And that counts.
04:08That's like, I know it's early, but like, there you go.
04:11Yeah, if you homer in a tie game, it doesn't matter when it is.
04:13Snap the 0-0 tie.
04:15Right.
04:15Yeah.
04:16So those home runs, you just named them.
04:17Yeah.
04:18You shouldn't be able to like, memory check, you shouldn't be able to do that 11 games in.
04:22Like, Grandy probably could because his brain works like that,
04:26but you shouldn't be able to name that bomb.
04:29Yeah.
04:3011 games in, you should be like, oh, that's right.
04:32I forgot about the three from Chapman.
04:35Can you name all the people you've kissed?
04:37Uh, no.
04:39No.
04:40No, I'm 57.
04:41Like, you know, it was a loosey-goosey era.
04:44I had five junior years at Cal State Northridge in a fraternity.
04:49Oh, I thought you were going to say you had five girls your junior year.
04:52No.
04:53I was a late bloomer.
04:54Okay.
04:54Late bloomer.
04:55Started to rack up some numbers late, but, I mean, nowhere near where the average 57-year-old would be.
05:02So, no, I can't name them all.
05:04No.
05:05And many of them are now in witness protection.
05:08And you would, like, if you could name them all, you'd have to go, boy, I need to stop and
05:13think about that.
05:14Well.
05:15And what was that one's name?
05:16Yeah.
05:16You're going to get me into storytelling mode again.
05:19That's what I'm trying to do.
05:20There was a gal who was on the swim team.
05:22And she was, man, she could swim the butterfly, the shoulders and the back on this gal.
05:29I thought you were going to say something else.
05:32She was never really my girlfriend, but I would visit her late at night.
05:36And my fraternity brothers nicknamed her the well.
05:40You're going back to the well.
05:43Dibber's going back to the well.
05:45Yeah.
05:46I will leave her a real name out for the sake of the fact that I was not the nicest.
05:52Non-boyfriend.
05:53You?
05:54Yeah.
05:54Not a good guy.
05:57That's shocking.
05:58The well.
05:59Good five weeks.
06:00Okay.
06:01Good run.
06:01Good for you.
06:02I have a shoulders and the back on this girl.
06:04I don't think that.
06:06Strong.
06:07Strong.
06:07But that's not what a lady wants to hear.
06:10The shoulders and the back on this woman.
06:13That's not.
06:14That's not.
06:15What is going on here?
06:17That's not.
06:18Maybe got back?
06:19No.
06:19And I'm talking about her actual back in this case.
06:21Yeah.
06:22No.
06:22Stop.
06:23She was a swimmer.
06:24I'm with Granny.
06:25Oh, God.
06:26She cultivated her physique for efficiency.
06:28I'm sorry.
06:29I asked for story time.
06:31I'm sorry.
06:31Thank you, Bob.
06:33The trapezius.
06:34Stop.
06:35All right.
06:36But you're right.
06:37I should not be able to just at the snap of a finger name all the homers.
06:41No.
06:42It's 11 games in.
06:44So, I will comfortably say that for all of the, hey, like all you weed smokers who are
06:53like, don't panic, bro.
06:56It's 11 games.
06:58What Logan Webb said, there's 152 of these left.
07:02Now there's 151 of these left.
07:04I get it, yeah.
07:05Okay.
07:06Well, tell you what.
07:07I'll be chill.
07:09But I'm going to be over here and be frustrated while I'm chill.
07:13I'm not panicked, but I'm frustrated.
07:16Yeah.
07:16And I'm in the right in being frustrated because you are, A, a very poor watch, and, B, I can
07:25already tell you that you are poorly constructed, at least at this point in the season.
07:31You have the opportunity to change it, but you're poorly constructed right now.
07:36What do I always say?
07:38What do I compare a baseball bullpen to in the world of football?
07:43Let's test dibs to see if he listens to his partner.
07:46It's got to be akin to an offensive line.
07:49That's exactly right.
07:51It is the offensive line of Major League Baseball and vice versa.
07:56And it's not sexy.
07:58It's not what anyone talks about, but you cannot win without it.
08:03Brendel, Burford, Borucky.
08:06Killer Bs.
08:07Ooh.
08:08I'm not hiring anybody.
08:10They got anybody on that draft board whose last name starts with B?
08:13We got a pitcher named Trent.
08:15I'd pass on him.
08:16Yeah.
08:17Let's get a Trent out there.
08:18I'm good with Trent.
08:20I had a buddy named Trent.
08:21Still do.
08:22I don't want to say had, but we were tight in high school.
08:25He's kicking around down in San Jose.
08:26He could hit the golf ball a country mile.
08:28Anyway.
08:29To put this in football terms with the amount of baseball games they've played, it's like
08:34the first NFL game is over, and you're into the second game, and they just return the
08:39opening kick for a touchdown.
08:41Yeah.
08:41You lost in week one, 48 to 10, and, ooh, boy, it didn't look good.
08:46And then you kick off in game two, and they return it for a touchdown.
08:49So this is what...
08:51A lot of football left is my point.
08:52But this is what people do, at least in the sport, right?
08:55Everyone runs in there with microphones, and the fans are on Twitter and all this going
08:59crazy, and you go inside the locker room, and everybody's like, relax.
09:03This goes on for a really long time.
09:07Sure, you're right if what you're talking about is the record.
09:12You're all talking about the standings.
09:14Logan Webb's like, I'm sure you could look and see.
09:16We're probably only like two or three games out on the wild card.
09:19In other words, don't worry.
09:20He goes, I don't even look at the standings.
09:21Cool, Logan, neither do we.
09:24This isn't about the standings.
09:26This is about us watching your team, and it's not a good team.
09:30So a football team can be 0-1, but if their defense just got carved up for 400 yards passing,
09:37I'm not wrong in being like, this doesn't look good.
09:40You don't have the right personnel.
09:43And so we questioned it in the offseason, and we were right to do so.
09:49And I do think there are, A, reinforcements on the way, and, B, it is where you can make deals
09:55in life, and that is the bullpen.
09:58You know, they've got that guy Sam Hentges.
09:59He's on the way.
10:02Seguero got hurt.
10:03He's on the way.
10:04And you can make deals in the bullpen.
10:06You can pull guys up from the minors and enter them into the bullpen fray, and so you'll figure this
10:11out.
10:11But you got caught with your pants down, period.
10:17I don't know how on earth you can spend all offseason and then arrive on opening day and be like,
10:24yeah, this is our bullpen.
10:26And if it's not going to work, then we'll figure it out later.
10:30Well, my God, time's a-wasting.
10:32You're 3-8.
10:34So that's the number one thing that Tony Bitello has in his corner right now.
10:40For patience.
10:40Well, he can, he's not going to say this in front of a microphone, but I hope fans understand it.
10:46What would you have him do?
10:48When he's got a lead and it's the seventh inning, what is it you want him to do?
10:54Okay, Tony, what?
10:56Well, you've got no closer, and even if you had a closer, you can't have a lead.
11:01You've won three games, so you don't even get to a spot where you use your closer.
11:04And didn't he say last week that, you know, I'm not afraid to use my closer in the sixth.
11:08And then last night you were in a tight spot, and you didn't throw out your best available pitcher in
11:13that spot.
11:14And it came back to bite you.
11:16And I do think it hurts that you also lost Butoh, somebody who was at least a veteran arm.
11:21And Doval you traded, and then your other closer last year got hurt.
11:24So injuries, accidents, I get it.
11:27But you're right about, you had all offseason.
11:29Yeah, they knew those things.
11:30Look at it and, you know, be able to equip yourselves a little bit better with some arms.
11:35And, you know, your bench, you have no left-hand hitters.
11:38In your pen, you have a ton of left-hand throwers.
11:41And yet, you know, the roster just seems to be a little bit patchwork, you know?
11:45Which it shouldn't look like that in April.
11:47Right.
11:48Like the Doval and Rodriguez thing, that didn't sneak up on you.
11:51You traded Tyler Rogers.
11:52That didn't sneak up on you.
11:55The Butoh thing, I don't know what you were expecting out of him.
11:59He was not pitching well prior to getting hurt.
12:02He was getting torched out there.
12:04So that, to me, if you want to get in the weeds, I know, like, that's not the sexy part
12:11of the team, so it's not what we look at.
12:12We all want the Giants to hit.
12:14We want Devers to hit a ball into the bay.
12:16But if you want to put together a list of where the Giants are failing right now, that is number
12:24one.
12:25You built a shoddy bullpen and started the year with it.
12:30And that is not excusable.
12:33It's not excusable because the Giants, this is what I think is really cool about Buster Posey running this team.
12:39You are, your team is now being run by someone who I know gets it.
12:44I know he knows what wins.
12:46I know it for a fact.
12:48We watched it.
12:50He and Boach had a wonderful philosophy.
12:53Pitching, defense, and offensively, make contact.
12:58Don't strike out too much.
13:00But, like, maybe it's too soon.
13:03You know, I'm not out here trying to, like, talk about Buster Posey's job being on the line.
13:07That's ridiculous at this point.
13:09But I can assess what I see right now.
13:11You put together a bad bullpen.
13:13You're not ready for the season.
13:14And your bench, quite frankly, I don't think is good enough either.
13:17And that is, maybe it's because you have all right-hand hitters.
13:20You don't have a left-hand hitter.
13:22But I'm looking even, you know, back further.
13:24And before Buster took the job, it just doesn't seem like the scouting and the development
13:29have been anywhere near up to par.
13:32And, you know, Patrick Bailey is a good defensive catcher.
13:34But this switch-hitting thing, I think, needs to get abandoned because he can't hit on either side.
13:40And so, when you're trying to maintain two swings, a lefty and a righty,
13:45handle all the pitchers and all the rest of the job that he has to do,
13:49I think it's too much.
13:51I tell you what, my bigger concern with Patrick Bailey right now, look,
13:55if Susack goes out there and starts hitting the ball all over the yard again tonight,
13:59I want to see him again tomorrow.
14:00And I want to see him the day after that.
14:02Yeah.
14:03Like, jobs should be available.
14:08Like, sure, Devers, your job is safe.
14:11Adamus, your job is safe.
14:13Chapman, your job is safe.
14:15I get it.
14:16You guys are all making huge, huge, humongous nine-figure deals.
14:21Patrick Bailey's job should not be that safe.
14:25I'm not talking about yanking him out of the lineup for good at this point.
14:30But, my God, what you lose defensively from Bailey to Susack is not enough to justify
14:38what's happening on offense should Susack continue to hit.
14:42Right.
14:42Like, we've seen one game.
14:43So, I'm not getting that excited.
14:45But, if you've got another catcher who can come in and hit north of 250 and put some
14:50charge into the ball and into the stadium the way he and his family did a few nights
14:54ago, be open to it.
14:56That's all.
14:57That's all I'm saying.
14:58Be open to it.
14:59Yeah.
14:59And if a guy goes three for three, here's an idea.
15:02Let him play the next game because he's three for three.
15:05Bailey is four for 31.
15:07Susack is three for three.
15:10Extremely small sample on Susack, but in one game, he has one fewer hit than Patrick
15:15Bailey, who's played in 10 of them.
15:18Sort of like the Giants' home runs.
15:19I think I can remember all of Bailey's hits, too.
15:22Oh, boy.
15:22Here we go.
15:23Well, they're pop flies that happen to fall in front of the outfielder.
15:26Has he hit a ball hard this year?
15:28I'd have to stat cast it, but I don't remember.
15:31I don't remember one.
15:33Like, you know, here or there, sure.
15:34Oh, okay.
15:36Looping line or whatever.
15:37But, yeah, no doubt.
15:41Like, if you added up all of the exit velocities of all of the at-bats, I bet you Susack,
15:49in
15:49three swings of the bat, probably has more than Bailey has in 30-some-hour at-bats.
15:54More total velocity?
15:55Totally.
15:56I mean...
15:57Those were 100-mile-an-hour line shots that Susack was throwing around the yard.
16:03I was...
16:04Easter Bailey, I think, got...
16:06He got at least one hit.
16:09He scored in that two-run rally on Easter.
16:13Dying quail off the end of the bat out to left field.
16:15That's sad.
16:16Yeah.
16:17Sad that a quail would go out like that.
16:19Yeah, sorry, quail.
16:20Tough.
16:22Casey Schmidt goes three for three.
16:25And...
16:25Have a seat.
16:27And that was on April 2nd, which is last time he was out there.
16:31Yeah.
16:31So, he gets three hits, and then he doesn't get to play either.
16:34So, I'm not sure about, like, one game you ride the hot hand, or, you know, a guy gets
16:41three hits, and then now he sits for three or four days?
16:43I'm torn on that.
16:45Like, I don't think it's necessarily, if you have a good day, you automatically get to
16:49play again the next day, especially at the catcher position.
16:51I just would love to see some more openness.
16:54I'd love to see some more openness.
16:57It's felt a little rigid.
16:59And I get it.
16:59Tony doesn't want to push the wrong button.
17:01It's early.
17:02It just feels a little rigid if we're just going to be like, here's my lineup, and they're
17:07going to hit all the time.
17:09Again, I'll bring it up.
17:10I did in the crossover.
17:11I'll bring it up again.
17:12I don't know why Jared Oliva is on the roster if he's not going to pinch hit for Bailey in
17:18the ninth inning last night.
17:19I don't know why he's there.
17:20And I know some of you are probably, in fact, a lot of you are like, who the...
17:23Who the hell is Jared Oliva?
17:25Well, you'll see him tonight.
17:27He's a very, very fast outfielder, led the Cactus League in stolen bases.
17:32He gets on base.
17:34And that's what you need when you're down two in the ninth inning.
17:36But instead, they let Patrick Bailey, like one of the worst hitters in the bigs, go up
17:40to the plate last night so that he could pop out to right field.
17:43Yeah, it's frustrating.
17:44I don't get it.
17:44Bailey's one of four regulars hitting below the Mendoza line, which is 200.
