00:00Hey, Dibs, your five-and-a-half thing might be accurate.
00:03It's not going to break my strides.
00:05Too early to worry about that.
00:06I have said for weeks and weeks, get over 500 and we'll talk.
00:11So today, we talk.
00:13Yeah.
00:14I don't think this is going anywhere.
00:16Not yet.
00:17I don't think it would be silly to predict that at this point.
00:19The Giants still need to win almost all of their games.
00:22And they would need help.
00:24That said, on many levels, I think last night was the exact game
00:28that Giants fans needed to see.
00:30They needed to see that.
00:31That was pretty awesome.
00:32I mean, it had characteristics of fire, fight, home runs,
00:39and I think, above all, what fans really respond to, unity.
00:44The Giants, for the first time in a while,
00:47look like some sort of a unified front.
00:50Where it goes, I don't know, but I think they've saved Bob Melvin's job.
00:54They might have gotten back into the playoff race here at the buzzer.
00:57But there's personality suddenly involved in this.
01:02Again, there's some fight.
01:04There's just something to sink your teeth into.
01:06Giants fans have been looking for a game like that for a while.
01:09And it's a game that came at the tail end,
01:11hopefully not the complete tail end,
01:13of what was an unbelievable stretch of wins.
01:16Coming off of a stretch where, oh my God, they couldn't beat anybody,
01:20including getting swept by the Mets,
01:22which is why you don't hold the tiebreaker.
01:24And that's why I was saying you're four and a half back,
01:27but you're really five and a half back,
01:28because the tiebreaker now is head-to-head.
01:32They don't have a game 163 anymore,
01:34because baseball went to this cockamamie wildcard series.
01:39Too bad.
01:39It's not a wildcard game.
01:41And it's now where you play 162,
01:44and then we go to tiebreakers.
01:45And so they don't hold the tiebreaker against the Mets.
01:48I'd have to look if they do against the Reds.
01:50I don't know if the Reds can actually get over the Mets.
01:53Right now it feels like it's the Mets are the team that you would target.
01:57And I know the Mets have a game coming up here in about...
02:02No, the Mets already lost today.
02:03The Mets lost.
02:03The Giants already lost.
02:04The Giants have the chance to game.
02:06Yeah, the Reds are hosting the Blue Jays a little bit later today.
02:09The Reds start the day with the exact same record as the Giants.
02:13So yeah, I'm not going to worry too much about four and a half or five and a half
02:17until suddenly it's a thing with a week to go.
02:20Like if it's a two-game lead or a one-game lead with a week to go,
02:23then we can play with that.
02:25But I would rather, in this moment,
02:27kind of focus on what comes from what has just happened.
02:32And the likelihood is this is not going to lead to the playoffs,
02:36but I still find it to be very important.
02:39There's a bunch of important stuff that has just happened for Giants fans.
02:43They get to see fight.
02:44They get to see unity.
02:46They are getting tremendous production from their two huge acquisitions this year,
02:51which is what everybody needed to see.
02:54And add all that up,
02:56and at a minimum what it is going to lead to I think is A,
03:00Bob Melvin is still the manager of this team.
03:02Some of you think that's a good thing.
03:03Some will think it's a bad thing.
03:05But I think it's going to be Bob Melvin still the manager of this team,
03:08and it probably creates a completely different runway into next season,
03:14both for the players and the fans.
03:16I would think that this can lead to a new level of confidence.
03:19When you wrap up that amount of money into players,
03:22they have to produce.
03:25And don't you feel better today about Devers and Adamas
03:28than you did at any other point?
03:30You've got to feel good about these two guys right now.
03:32I've been feeling good about them for a long time,
03:34especially Adamas.
03:35And if you want to look at Devers and his game log,
03:38he's now comfortable and he's absolutely mashing.
03:41And so if you want to think about next year, yeah,
03:44next year Adamas will have been here for a full year.
03:47Devers will be starting out in camp with his new team.
03:51Chapman, I do still think, is a solid enough player to help you.
03:56And so you start to look at what you have going into next year.
03:59Yeah, it's exciting, especially with your core and your lineup.
04:03The other side that I think we have to address,
04:07and we did briefly there on the crossover,
04:09I'd love to know what you think about it.
04:10You and I don't always see eye to eye when it comes to dotting people
04:13and fights and all of this stuff.
04:15No one got dotted yesterday, but instead you had a pitcher chase down
04:20Rafi Devers because he was looking at the ball too long,
04:24whether it was because he was pimping it or because he was body language
04:27trying to get it inside the pole or whatever to me is actually kind of irrelevant.
04:33Kyle went and found him.
04:35That's not okay.
04:37He then took it all the way to after the game.
04:40He had hours to cool down and after the game still stuck to Rafi was disrespecting me.
04:47That was in the first inning.
04:49No reason to do that.
04:50And it's just shocking to me that in 2025 there's still pitchers out there who think this way.
04:57And you don't realize that, like, dude, you've lost the audience.
05:01Nobody thinks this way anymore who watches baseball.
05:04Nobody.
05:04And if you do, you are, you're probably rough and tumble, live in middle America,
05:10and you've had your 75th birthday.
05:12Like, I'm sorry.
05:14Nobody looks at it this way anymore.
05:16You've got to let it go.
05:17You are not in charge of the baseball field like pitchers love to, like Bob Gibson.
05:24My mound, my plate, my this, my that.
05:27Get over there to first.
05:28Run fast, dummy.
05:29And everybody out there who says, boy, you Giants fans supported Madison Bumgarner.
05:33Not this part of him we didn't.
05:36I never did.
05:37You know that.
05:37We've talked about this a bunch.
05:39It's a bunch of crap.
05:41And any pitcher who does stuff like this, you're antiquated, you're expired, and you need to look at you.
05:47This is over.
05:50Let the players do what they do when they succeed on the field the same way all of the other sports do.
05:57All of the other sports have people, if you want to call it that, showing one another up after every play.
06:04Football has it on every play.
06:06Yep.
06:06And nobody feels disrespected.
06:08Go get the next play.
06:09Then you get to celebrate.
06:11I don't understand what's hard to understand here.
06:14Well, it's different in football because if you want to gain eight yards and show me up, well, I have a chance to tackle you and tackle you hard and maybe even 15-yard you and maybe knock you the blank out.
06:27In baseball, you don't really have that in the same way.
06:29And basketball is the interesting one where you might get posterized on a dunk.
06:33And when you get posterized, you don't often see the player jump up and immediately try to fight a guy.
06:40You got caught.
06:41You got caught.
06:42You got dunked on.
06:43That's part of it.
06:45And you're on to Cincinnati.
06:46And in hockey, there is a certain amount of like if you show somebody up, you're going to get the gloves dropped and you're going to actually have to fight.
06:55So it's a little different in baseball because you don't have that same ability to go out there and exact revenge.
07:02If you're a starting pitcher, you get to go face him again.
07:04Maybe.
07:05Face him.
07:05Maybe, yeah.
07:06Or face the next guy.
07:08Right.
07:08And light him up.
07:09No, you don't even need to light him up.
07:11Strike him out.
07:12And if you want to moonwalk back to the dugout, moonwalk back to the dugout.
07:17Like here's the other thing that I bet a lot of fans don't know, and I'll just take all the Giants' word for this.
07:22Dave Fleming spoke on it.
07:24Logan Webb spoke on it.
07:25Turns out Kyle Freeland is a mouth.
07:28Kyle Freeland is a bleep talker.
07:30Kyle Freeland is yelling at people from the dugout constantly when he's not even pitching.
07:36So this is a classic pot calls kettle black.
07:40This is a hypocrite.
07:41This is somebody who just got got the wrong time, wrong place, who knows, whatever.
07:46You know, Shasky this morning was saying maybe he's dealing with something in his life because that classically looked like something that he was mad about that had nothing to do with that.
07:54I have no idea.
07:55But that was very far from the worst pimping of a home run that I've ever seen.
08:00Like not even close.
08:02You went and chased him down.
08:04It's odd that Freeland would be like, oh, it's only the first inning.
08:08I would respond.
08:09Yeah, Kyle, it's only the first inning.
08:11You face two batters.
08:13Why are you already chasing one over to first base and yelling at him, relax, go get an out for once.
08:19You haven't all year.
08:21Like this whole thing just reeks of his own frustration.
08:24Sure.
08:25Boiling over.
08:26Well, they're a hundred lost team.
08:27Yeah.
08:27So, yeah.
08:28So what?
08:29Like, you don't get to take that out on the other team.
08:33Not in that way.
08:34Like, if one person should be suspended from this, it's no doubt Kyle Freeland.
08:40Right.
08:40And that's why the umpires huddled and realized that, you know, Rafi Devers should be allowed
08:46to circle the bases because his route got kind of cut off by the first baseman and then
08:52the first base umpire.
08:53Totally.
08:54You know, he could have just blown through it and rounded the bases, but I don't think
08:58that that would have diffused it.
08:59You know, Freeland clearly wanted a piece of Rafi Devers, and so Devers got to first.
09:04And he's like, what?
09:05Yeah.
09:05Let's dance.
09:06So let's go ahead and do this.
09:08And that was something that I don't think I've ever seen where a guy hits a home run
09:13and he doesn't touch all four bases and he goes out of the baseline and it's like, you
09:18know what?
09:18We're going to put you back in first.
09:20And then now you can jog around 10 minutes later.
09:23That was crazy.
09:24Yeah.
09:24They basically talked for seven minutes and came out and they went, that was not his fault.
09:28I mean, if you really want to slow-mo this, go to Devers' first facial expression.
09:34His first facial expression is, what the hell are you yelling at me for?
09:38Like, what's your problem?
09:40And then it's, you know, it's the whole like, just run, just run, shut up.
09:44I'll get around the damn bases when I, damn well please.
09:49Who the hell, like why?
09:50It's no different.
09:51The conversations you and I have had about umpires.
09:54So in baseball, there's this, umpires have decided that the players are their kids.
09:59They get to send them to their room.
10:01You're not allowed to talk to them.
10:03They can talk to you, but you can't talk to them.
10:05And pitchers have this mini version of this.
10:08For whatever reason, because they're the ones with the ball to start the play, they've decided
10:12this is their field.
10:13It's my plate.
10:14It's my batter's box.
10:16It's my field.
10:17And now I get to tell you what speed you're supposed to, what are you, who died and put
10:22you in charge?
10:23Pitch.
10:24We'll hit.
10:25We'll handle what we do out here on the field.
10:28You don't have anything to say about this.
10:30Well, they have a lot to say, which is, I could throw the ball and oops, that one got
10:34away from me at 97, right in your ribs.
10:36Enjoy the bench then.
10:36Sorry about that.
10:37Yeah, enjoy your shower.
10:38Sure.
10:39I mean, it doesn't automatically mean you get ejected.
10:42And I wonder how Colorado reacts tonight, where, you know, if you're a team that is unified,
10:47like you talked about yesterday, where, you know, Adamas comes out, Chapman comes out, and
10:52they get ejected because they were, you know, pegging up for their guy.
10:55Okay, so if you're Colorado and you're unified, you're starting pitcher, maybe you start an
11:00opener, and you just go ahead and light up Devers right away.
11:03Maybe.
11:03I mean, it is getaway day.
11:05You should.
11:05Keep an eye on it tonight.
11:06It's getaway day.
11:08And the two people who got thrown out are not the people the Rockies were mad at.
11:13So, yeah, if I'm Devers, be on alert.
11:16But guess what?
11:17So will the umpires.
11:19And you damn well better believe if that happens, tons of people are getting thrown out.
11:23But if you're 39 and 100, who cares?
11:25Right.
11:26Exactly.
11:26I don't know.
11:27We'll see.
11:28If I'm on Colorado, I'm thinking, you know what?
11:30Let's start somebody who we don't really need, and let's go ahead and light up Rafi Devers
11:34one time in the ribs.
11:35Who cares if it is the starting pitcher?
11:36What is it that the Rockies need?
11:38Uh, not much.
11:39They're just playing out the schedule.
11:40Yep.
11:41Yep.
11:41Yep.
11:41Yep.
11:41Yep.
