Hello there.
00:01
You'll hear us talking a lot about sunshine and showers over the next couple of days and
00:05
then on Sunday a slight change where we could potentially see some quite impactful winds.
00:11
Why is this?
00:12
Well, it's all thanks to an area of low pressure on Friday just off the coast of Newfoundland
00:15
and eventually pushing its way eastwards across the Atlantic.
00:18
It will be picked up on the cold side of the jet stream, will undergo some rapid deepening,
00:23
eventually pushing into the far northwest of the country later Sunday and through into
00:27
Monday.
00:29
Winds are tightening on the isobar so it's likely to bring some quite strong winds, particularly
00:33
around western coasts of Wales, south and southwest England, even inland areas are going to see
00:37
some quite strong winds and also some quite heavy outbreaks of rain.
00:41
Before we talk about Sunday though, I do just want to reverse the clock and talk about Saturday
00:46
where we'll be waking up to some dry spells, also a fair few showers, plenty of cloud,
00:51
some quite heavy showers potentially across the far southeast before they'll drift their
00:55
way into the North Sea.
00:57
Through the course of the morning there will be some brighter spells, particularly across
01:00
any eastern areas.
01:01
The main firing line for the showers is going to be across western areas.
01:05
But you can see even by the time we reach the afternoon the showers are going to be very
01:09
well scattered.
01:10
Now some of these could be heavy.
01:12
We could once again see some hail and thunder, similar to what we've seen earlier in the week.
01:16
But in between the showers there will be some bright and sunny spells.
01:20
Temperatures around about average, if not a touch below, widely pushing into the mid to
01:24
high teens.
01:26
Later Saturday we will start to see this area of low pressure that I mentioned earlier build
01:31
into the Atlantic as once again it continues to push its way eastwards.
01:35
Some quite strong winds associated with this already as it pushes its way eastwards.
01:40
Gusts reaching into 50 to 60 miles per hour.
01:43
But it's really later Sunday through into Monday where we could see the most impactful winds.
01:48
So we have issued a yellow wind warning for Sunday 8pm all the way through into Monday
01:53
at 6pm across parts of northwest England, western coast of Wales, parts of southwest and southern
01:59
England as well.
02:00
Now this is where wind speeds could reach between 50 to 60 miles per hour, potentially 70 to 80
02:06
miles per hour along any exposed regions.
02:08
So particularly across hills and any coastal areas.
02:11
So do keep an eye on the warnings across our social media and our website and take my advice
02:16
and definitely tie down any loose items that you might have floating around.
02:20
But during Sunday morning actually there's going to be lots of dry weather, plenty of clear
02:24
skies.
02:25
So it's going to feel quite cool and fresh.
02:27
There will probably be some sunshine for the first part of the day.
02:30
But eventually we'll see these heavy outbreaks of rain at first pushing into parts of the
02:34
southwest drifting their way northeastwards through the course of the morning.
02:37
So some quite heavy downpours associated with this area of rain and also some strong gusty
02:42
winds.
02:43
So even though the weather warning doesn't come into force until later Sunday it is still going
02:46
to be a very windy day.
02:48
Now the main band of rain by the time we reach the afternoon just pushing into western Scotland,
02:53
northern parts of England and parts of the southeast.
02:55
But even behind it there's going to be some very heavy showers.
02:57
Once again we could see some hail and thunder mixed into those and even at times merging
03:01
together to bring some longer spells of rain.
03:04
The driest and brightest of the conditions will remain across the far northeast of Scotland
03:08
even by the afternoon.
03:09
But even here quite windy, a fair amount of cloud and eventually later into the evening
03:13
we'll see these outbreaks of rain move through.
03:15
Now temperatures are actually going to be a degree or two higher particularly across the
03:19
south just pushing into 20 degrees celsius but this obviously being offset by all the wind
03:24
and rain.
03:25
So it's later Sunday where we'll really see those winds pick up particularly across the southwest
03:30
in that warning area and all the way through into Monday we're expecting some gales if not
03:34
severe gales at times.
03:35
We'll eventually say goodbye to this area of low pressure pushing into the North Sea later Monday
03:40
but behind it it's still going to be fairly blustery with a mix of sunshine and showers
03:44
and it looks that way for a lot of the week next week.
