00:00Welcome to your week ahead video from the Met Office.
00:03Yes, some of us will have some warm sunshine through this week.
00:07As always, there's one or two issues.
00:09It won't be gloriously sunny everywhere and temperatures will actually start to dip away again towards the end of the
00:15week.
00:15Doesn't look that promising to start the week either with low pressure dominating heading up towards Iceland and high pressure
00:21down to the south of the UK.
00:23But the bigger picture tells the story.
00:25And if we put the jet stream on, you can see this dip out in the Atlantic.
00:28That's important because as the jet stream drives southwards, it helps spin up an area of low pressure, which turns
00:34things to be quite stormy for the Azores.
00:37More wet and windy weather to come across Portugal as well from this low.
00:42But as the jet stream breaks away down here and also pushes away to the north of the UK, it
00:47allows high pressure to move in.
00:50A chunky area of high pressure which will dominate for most of this week.
00:53High pressure means sinking air and that will bring largely clear skies.
00:58I say largely because there's always, I say, one or two issues and weather fronts will be draped around the
01:03UK.
01:04And still on Tuesday, these weather fronts and a lot of isobars in the chart suggesting it's going to be
01:08breezy and quite a grey start to Tuesday morning.
01:11There'll be some drizzly rain here and there over the hills and the weather front will make for a pretty
01:15wet and windy day over the Western Isles and parts of Northern Ireland.
01:19Quite blustery and gusty here for St Patrick's Day with some rain coming in too.
01:24Bit of a breeze blowing for England and Wales, but after that grey start, come the afternoon, most of England
01:30and Wales turning much, much brighter.
01:32Lengthy spells of sunshine and the winds wafting up warmer air from the south.
01:37Well, temperatures getting into the mid-teens, maybe even 15, 16, perhaps even 17 in one or two locations.
01:44It may stay a bit cloudy around some western coasts and where it is cloudy and wet.
01:48Obviously, temperatures only 10 or 11 degrees Celsius won't feel all that pleasant.
01:52But elsewhere, some sunshine on the way.
01:55Now, it's really through Tuesday night and Wednesday.
01:57That weather front starts to sink south, but it kind of gets wrung out a little bit as the pressure
02:01builds across it.
02:02So, yes, although it may provide some drizzly rain here and there, especially early on, mostly that's just going to
02:09be a bank of cloud, a line of cloud,
02:11making for some drab conditions across parts of southern Scotland, northern England.
02:16Some uncertainty about where that cloudier zone lies.
02:18To the north of it, a brighter day.
02:20Still the odd shower in the far northwest, but generally much drier here.
02:24And to the south, well, yes, it may start a little misty, but the wind's a lot lighter.
02:28But plenty of sunshine and look at the temperatures, 15, 16, easily 17, 18, 19.
02:34We could even squeak up to 20 Celsius, most likely on the west coast of Wales.
02:39What are those temperatures compared to the average for the middle of March?
02:43Well, above, well above.
02:45I say particularly in these parts of west Wales, north coast of Devon, that's where we could easily see 19
02:50or 20 degrees Celsius,
02:52significantly above the average for the middle of the month.
02:55Not as warm compared to the average across the coast of East Anglia, with a bit of a breeze picking
03:00up here.
03:01And in that cloudier zone, too, for southern Scotland and northern England, temperatures only a couple of degrees above the
03:07average.
03:07Now, that weather front is kind of still around as we go through Wednesday night and Thursday,
03:12still perhaps providing the odd little bit of drizzle where it lies.
03:15As I say, there's still some uncertainty about where it's going to sit in amongst the high,
03:19but it might provide some rain and drizzle for a time over parts of southeast Scotland, perhaps northeast England, too.
03:25But all the while fizzling out, just turning into a cloudier zone again here to the south of it.
03:31Plenty of sunshine, but not quite as warm on Thursday, 15, 16, perhaps 17 or 18, one or two spots.
03:37But with light winds, that's going to feel, you know, pretty mild for the middle to latter part of March.
03:42And even further north, much brighter for western Scotland, some sunshine here.
03:47And again, lighter winds, so 13, 14 degrees is above the average for this time of year.
03:52Through Thursday, that's when the high pressure really kind of sets in as he drifts a little bit,
03:58maybe out into the North Sea on Friday, may introduce a bit more of an easterly flow.
04:04That could bring about a bit more cloud in these eastern areas.
04:07Again, the vast majority of the country will be dry, but with the easterly breeze picking up,
04:12that's going to introduce some slightly cooler conditions, 13, 14 the max.
04:17It might feel a good deal fresher, certainly, than Tuesday or Wednesday on the east coast,
04:21with fairly dull conditions for northeast England up into southeastern parts of Scotland.
04:27This kind of wind direction northwest Scotland does pretty well, so 13, 14 likely here.
04:32And again, parts of west South Wales and southwest England may well see the highest temperatures during Friday.
04:39There's a bit of uncertainty to head into the weekend.
04:41The high pressure is trying to hold on, but some computer models are throwing up low pressure towards the southeast.
04:47That may provide a few showers into Saturday.
04:49But mostly, it looks like the high pressure will hang on, at least into the start of the weekend,
04:54continuing to bring us some dry conditions.
