00:03Musical chairs with the offensive line again, again.
00:08Sports Radio 610 presents The Drive with Sterner and Kubelay.
00:27All right, day one of mandatory minicamp and our own Clinton Sterner was out there on the field.
00:37And Clint, the offensive line, the offensive line was seemingly the biggest thing that they paid attention to,
00:49that they changed, that they made movement on, bringing in multiple free agents, trades, draft picks.
00:59They've done a lot there.
01:01And today, you saw this and it was reported out there by many others.
01:07Here's the offensive line, Clint.
01:10Left tackle, Ariante Ursary, who for the second time, D'Amico really likes what he's seeing from Ursary.
01:18Said he came in looking good year two.
01:21Wyatt Teller, left guard.
01:24Let's go to the other side.
01:25Right guard, Eddie Ingram.
01:28It's funny to call him that, man.
01:30Oh, Eddie Ingram is the right guard.
01:33Trent Brown was the right tackle, but of course, Braden Smith.
01:37Has an injury.
01:38He was injured and not participating in OTAs and still injured there.
01:43Not participating.
01:44We believe Braden Smith.
01:46They paid him good money.
01:47We believe Braden Smith will be the right tackle once he's healthy.
01:53But then the center, Clint.
01:55Who was the center today with the ones?
01:57Jake Matthews.
01:57Or Andrews.
01:58I mean, Jake Andrews.
01:59I'm sorry.
02:00I heard Sean make that mistake with Jake Matthews this morning.
02:02Damn, Sean.
02:02Shout out to Jake Matthews.
02:03Blame it on you.
02:04Jake Andrews.
02:05By the way, Jake Matthews' nephew is one of Nicholas's really good friends.
02:10Shout out to you.
02:11I see you.
02:11The bloodline.
02:12See you, Truett, out there.
02:15But, yeah, the bloodlines.
02:16Yeah.
02:17Jake Andrews was the center today, and Keelan Rutledge was running a lot of second teams as the center at
02:27that point.
02:27That was what was reported.
02:29And, Clint, how big a deal is it?
02:32Because we've told you, listen, I'm going to try to remain calm, which clearly I am a professional at doing.
02:38I am someone that does not fly off the handle very often.
02:42I'm not perfect.
02:43I'm calm.
02:44But, I'm not Will Anderson at this.
02:47But, I've said it.
02:51We've agreed.
02:53Keelan Rutledge needs to be the starting center when they face the Buffalo Bills in week one.
02:58And, I don't love that he's not just giving immediate reps right away.
03:02But, how concerning for you is it that he is not starting mandatory minicamp with the ones and Jake Andrews
03:12is to the point that he'll be starting against the Buffalo Bills?
03:16How concerned are you that he is not getting those reps right now?
03:19Well, I'll tell you this.
03:20I think the more I think about it, being out there today and watching it, it wasn't first or second.
03:26There was one snap on the ground.
03:27It was Jake Andrews.
03:28I mean, it was Keelan Rutledge that I saw.
03:32So, this isn't just a reaction to today, but it is part of it.
03:36But, I just, I think it's going to be a real long shot if your first round draft pick out
03:41of this year's draft is on the field.
03:43Opening day.
03:44You think, right now, you said June 9th, you think it's going to be a long shot for him to
03:49get on the field?
03:50Yes, I do.
03:51I think it's going to be a long shot if he is your starting center to start the season.
03:55Now, can injuries happen throughout?
03:56Can something happen maybe mid-season?
03:58Sure.
03:58With this group, you never know.
04:00They'll rotate left guards for four months.
04:02Hold on, Clint.
04:03They moved up to go get him.
04:05I'll go one further.
04:07I'll go one further.
04:07I'm not trying to challenge you.
04:08I'll really piss you off.
04:11I'll bet you, I'll bet good money right now that your first round draft pick and your second round draft
04:17pick, not McDonald's.
04:19Your first round draft pick and Klein, one of your second round draft picks, I bet they ain't on the
04:24field opening day.
04:25Two of your top three draft picks, I bet.
04:27And the two that are on the offensive side of the ball, I bet they ain't on the field opening
04:31day.
04:31Listen, we'll see.
04:32Klein, I can take.
04:33What is it about Rutledge?
04:36What is it about the center situation that you're saying long shot, day one, of mandatory?
04:41Well, the hype has worn off, and I'm just back to out there today and listening.
04:48I think the audio, this is all-encompassing.
04:50Practice today and watching.
04:52He's running with the twos.
04:53There's a snap on the ground.
04:55Listening to the offensive coordinator, the general manager, the head coach.
05:00You know, listening to Dalton Schultz and listening to all these guys talk about this offense and how difficult it
05:06is and yada, yada, yada.
05:09I just have gone back to my original thought before the draft, before you ever drafted a rookie center.
05:17Dude.
05:17I just think with this particular set of problems that you have on the offensive side of the football,
05:25I think it would be irresponsible to throw a rookie center who's never played center in this mix given how
05:35difficult this offense is to run.
05:39I think it's extremely difficult for a rookie center to come in and just be that dude and take the
05:49offense.
05:50We're not talking about just play.
05:51Now, we're talking about a guy that's got to be a communicator because we're not sure that the quarterback communicates
05:55as well as you thought he did his rookie year.
05:58You've got a lot riding on the communication piece.
06:01Especially someone who never played the position in his four years in college.
06:05Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:06So, look, I know, and D'Amico's gone on and on about how he's a great communicator, he's loud, he's
06:11this, he's assertive, and I get it.
06:13I get it.
06:14I just can't help but look at this situation as you've got a guy that knows this offense like the
06:21back of his hand.
06:22You've got a guy that you gifted the job last year because he could communicate and because he supposedly knew
06:30the offense.
06:30And then you've got a rookie that's never played the position and this is not – today, I think the
06:38light bulb moment for me today is it's clear, Ron.
06:41This is not a guy that they watch snap the ball in some workouts and at the senior bowl and
06:45we're like, we had no work.
