00:00Hello and welcome. Here with Five Live, I'm Sonal Mehrotra Kapoor.
00:03Three stories in focus today.
00:05We will start with what's happening with the Srinamul Congress.
00:08Is TMC heading for a vertical split?
00:11There are talks happening that they could not just split from within,
00:14they could also be joining the Congress Party.
00:16What exactly is happening?
00:17Is it become a number game, not just a political game?
00:20That's going to be our focus.
00:21Number two story, the water crisis.
00:23We've shown you how posh South Delhi colonies are getting gutter water,
00:29sewage water in their taps.
00:31And now, out of Delhi, we take you to Hyderabad,
00:34where the story doesn't seem to be any different.
00:37Then there is Shigella, the scare that is now spreading in Kerala.
00:43It is not a virus, it is a bacteria.
00:45Yes, there is an antibiotic available for it.
00:49But why is the scare exactly?
00:51A full explainer will come on the program.
00:54First up, as always, let's take you through all the headlines on Top of the Sire.
00:59A day after attending the key India block meet,
01:02TMC Supremo meets with the Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi
01:07at her residence at 10 Janpat in New Delhi.
01:10This while a team of West Bengal CID officials reached her Kolkata residence
01:14to serve a notice to her nephew Abhishek in a signature forgery case.
01:23In the latest sign of widening rift within the TMC, MP June Malia and Dev Adhikari
01:30attended an administrative meeting chaired by West Bengal Chief Minister Svendu Adhikari
01:34in Kolakhat.
01:36Mamta Camp is, on the other hand, lashing out at the rebels,
01:39saying, also daring them to quit and face voter action.
01:45No end to Karnataka Cabinet Nataka.
01:47Now Karnataka Ministers KH Muni Appa and Krishna Gourda
01:51have expressed dissatisfaction with their portfolio.
01:55Sources say several other ministers are also unhappy
01:58and could consider stepping down if their concerns are not addressed.
02:02DK Sivakumar will head to Delhi tomorrow,
02:05where he is likely to discuss the second phase of the Cabinet expansion
02:09with the High Command.
02:11Severe water crisis in Hyderabad.
02:13Demand surges to 20,000 tankers a day amid heat.
02:18Tanker bookings also surge across the city.
02:21People saying we have tanker numbers on speed dial, really.
02:24The crisis has drawn political criticism, resident complaints
02:28and also fresh pressure on the city's water infrastructure.
02:33Government clears the new 13,000 crore.
02:36Our great Nicobar Airport calls the initiative
02:39a strategic investment aimed at strengthening maritime security
02:44and enhancing India's presence in the Indo-Pacific region.
02:48Leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi,
02:51once again called it the biggest scam in history
02:54and the gravest crime against India's nature and tribal heritage.
02:59Centre now cuts the subsidised LPG cylinders
03:02under its flagship Udzwala scheme from 9 to 4.
03:07Rural women beneficiaries do still get 300 subsidy per cylinder.
03:12And the Centre has now said that India's LPG price
03:15is amongst the lowest in the world
03:17still this day after the prices were raised for the regular LPG as well.
03:23Meanwhile, packed rain, overcrowded stations and long overnight waits
03:28marked the aftermath of the US-Beghavaran, the UP police examination.
03:34Amid the rush, candidates have come forward to share stories
03:37of sacrifices made by their families
03:40and also voiced concerns about the possibility of another examination paper leak.
03:46More than 27 people were killed
03:48and around 200 injured in clashes between protesters and security forces
03:53in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir
03:54after authorities banned the Joint Awami Action Committee,
03:58a leading civil society group.
04:00The Minister of External Affairs has reacted to that violence
04:03saying that the international community should hold Pakistan accountable
04:06for human rights violations in the region.
04:10Big relief for Indians, a US judge has struck down
04:14Donald Trump's controversial 1 lakh H-1B visa fee.
04:18The judge, while mixing the fee hike,
04:21said that the administration lacked the legal authority
04:24to impose an unauthorised tax on employees,
04:27in fact on employers as well,
04:29seeking to hire highly skilled foreign workers.
04:34And even before football's biggest spectacle begins,
04:37the FIFA World Cup has been marred by controversies.
04:41Somali referee Omar Tan is turned back at the airport
04:46while Iran, vice-captain, was detained and questioned for seven hours.
04:51The row now tracks back to 12th March remark by Donald Trump,
04:57who questioned Iran's participation amidst rising US-Iran tensions.
05:11Let's start the programme with straightaway some news just coming in.
05:14This is the CID team that has reached Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat residence.
05:18And this is according to sources that a team of CID has reached
05:22Mamata Banerjee's residence to serve a notice to Abhishek Banerjee
05:25as one of the TMC party office is situated at that address.
05:30We are now told that Mamata Banerjee residence is also the central office of the TMC party,
05:36which is why the CID team has reached there.
05:40CID is probing the fourth signature case, remember,
05:42over his letter and meeting resolution registration that was annexed with it.
05:48Now, this entire scam has been talked about quite a bit,
05:51but the timing of the teams now going back to, you know,
05:56getting more fiercely after the cases that existed or the new ones that are cropping up
06:00is being looped at with a political lens as well.
06:04Let me try and see if we can quickly cut across to my colleague Tapas for bringing us more speed.
06:11Okay, Tapas, take us through what exactly is happening in the Kalighat residence.
06:18Well, in the Kalighat residence, a team of CID officials with huge amount of forces
06:23have been mobilized and they are there.
06:26Primarily, they were not allowed to get inside the residence of Mamata Banerjee,
06:30the 30B Hori Strategy Street.
06:32But after a lot of deliberations, finally,
06:34they have made their way into the premises of 30B Hori Strategy Street.
06:39And now they are trying to figure out the document.
06:42Actually, there are two places where this raid is ongoing.
06:45One is at Obishek Banerjee's residence.
06:48Another is at Mamata Banerjee's residence.
06:51The premise is not residence in particular.
06:54What sources from the CID says that following the investigation of the forgery of signature,
07:00Obishek Banerjee wrote the letter to the speaker of Vidhan Sabha.
07:03And that letter has a copy of resolution signed by the MLAs.
07:10So, following that, the CID has the photocopy of the resolution,
07:16but they are looking for the original copy of the resolution.
07:20For that reason, they had come to two places.
07:23And at both the places, simultaneously, the raids are ongoing at the moment.
07:27They are trying to figure out the copy of the resolution.
07:30And on the other hand, what we learned from the sources within CID,
07:33that it was intimated by Obishek Banerjee that he won't be able to be present today before the CID.
07:40Mind it, today was the third Saman's deadline at 5 p.m.,
07:45following which Obishek Banerjee was supposed to appear before the investigating officers.
07:50But he is in Delhi right now.
07:52So, it was communicated, as sources say, by Obishek Banerjee,
07:56that tomorrow a hearing is supposed to take place following this entire signature forgery
08:01to which the Obishek Banerjee had filed a petition at the Calcutta High Court.
08:05He is expected that it is going to be heard tomorrow.
08:07And he is not in the town at this moment.
08:10Henceforth, he sought time from CID.
08:12But it seems that, as the CID says, that the investigation is in a very, very crucial stage.
08:18And following that, this raid is being carried out at the moment.
08:21Thanks so much for joining us with the very latest.
08:24But let's stay with news from TMC,
08:25because the battle for Bengal has burst out of the state
08:28and into the corridors of parliament, into the corridors of power here in Delhi as well.
08:33What began as murmurs of discontent inside the Trinambool Congress
08:37has now snowballed into an open rebellion,
08:40with rival camps now trading charges of betrayal, conspiracy and political opportunism.
08:45The rebel faction claims that it has the backing of 20 TMC MPs
08:50enough to trigger a formal split and potentially overcome the anti-defection hurdles.
08:56Remember the anti-defection law?
08:58We recently had to brush our memory on it because of Raghav Chadda
09:02and how, you know, majority of the MLA's MPs, in fact, of Ahmadi Party
09:08split open and turned over and joined the BJP.
09:11Now, the same seems to be the script that is being followed
09:15or being attempted to be followed by some in the TMC as well.
09:19Now, the names being cited, remember the rebel camps say they have 20.
09:22That's, you know, pretty much the number that you need
09:25for anti-defection hurdles to be crossed over.
09:28Now, the names being cited include some of the party's most recognisable faces.
09:32It includes people like Kakoli Ghosh,
09:35of late, been a very vocal opponent of Mamata Banerji
09:38and Abhishek Banerji, importantly.
09:40And also, Shidabdi Roy and Yusuf Pathan,
09:43Dev Adhikari and Sugata Roy.
09:46But Team Mamata is hitting back hard.
09:50Senior MP Talyan Banerji has now challenged the rebels
09:53to resign and face the electorate,
09:56accusing them of using the TMC banner
09:58while plotting against the party.
10:01Now, calling them traitors,
10:02he also questioned their silence during the RG car controversy,
10:06claiming that Mamata Banerji stood firm while others looked away.
10:11Now, the rebellion, remember,
10:12is no longer confined to statements, press conferences.
10:15Rebel MPs are now openly attending meetings
10:19shared by BJP-backed Chief Minister,
10:22Suvendu Adhikari,
10:23in other cases,
10:24by India's Environment Minister,
10:29here in the capital as well,
10:31who was in charge of Bengal for the BJP.
10:34Now, what's happening?
10:35There are speculations that are being fuelled
10:38that the political realignment may already be underway,
10:41while TMC Rajasabha MP,
10:44Koyal Malik,
10:45confirms he has not resigned.
10:47She has gone to Delhi,
10:48in Kolkata currently.
10:49Now, let's break it down,
10:51how this crisis inside the Trinamool Congress
10:53actually unfolds,
10:55and what could be a likely outcome for this.
10:57Now, the first signs,
10:59the first signs of trouble,
11:01emerged on the 6th of May,
11:03when nearly 10 MLAs
11:05skipped Mamata Banerji's strategy meeting.
11:08Days later,
11:09party spokesperson,
11:10Riju Datta,
11:11was suspended.
11:12And on the 20th of May,
11:14just 8 days,
11:15of the party's 80 MLA,
11:17you know,
11:17turned up for a key,
11:18a TMC protest,
11:20that was the crucial day, really.
11:24The rebellion gathered pace,
11:25when Kakoli Ghosh,
11:27Tastikaar,
11:28quit her party post,
11:30on the 25th of May.
11:32Followed by rebel MLAs,
11:33attending BJP-led government meetings,
11:35the very next day.
11:36More resignations followed,
11:38senior leaders stepped down,
11:40and the revolt steadily,
11:42moved into the open.
11:43By June,
11:45the battle had escalated dramatically.
11:47Two rebel MLAs were expelled,
11:49others attended,
11:50review meetings,
11:52shared by Chief Minister,
11:53Sumendu Adhikari,
11:54and on the 8th of June,
11:56senior Rajasabha MP,
11:58Sukhendu Sekha Roy,
11:59quit the party,
12:01as rebel MPs,
12:02held crucial,
12:03power meetings in Delhi.
12:05Now,
12:07now comes the biggest claim yet,
12:11that 20 TMC MPs are ready to back the NDA.
12:15If that number holds,
12:17it crosses the magic figure of 19 MPs required to overcome
12:20the anti-defection provision,
12:22and also formalise a split.
12:25The question now is,
12:27whether these are merely claims in the bitter internal battle,
12:30or signs of a political earthquake,
12:32that could reshape Bengal's ruling party.
12:35The war inside the Trinambul Congress,
12:37remember,
12:38is now not hidden anymore.
12:40It is out in the open,
12:41with rival camps,
12:42making explosive,
12:43contradictory claims.
12:45So, let's understand that for a bit as well.
12:49And we've seen that script in the past, right?
12:51We've seen this happen with Shiv Sena.
12:53We've seen this happen with Ahmadi Party.
12:58We've seen this happen with so many others.
13:02So, what exactly is happening?
13:04And is this shifting now to the TMC?
13:06The rebel faction,
13:07led by Karkoli Ghosh,
13:08claimed that it has a support of 20 TMC MPs,
13:11blames the lack of development,
13:13and fallout of the RG Kar controversy for the revolt.
13:16And has openly signalled,
13:19that their group,
13:20their defection faction,
13:22or their rebel faction,
13:23desires to align with the NDA.
13:26But Team Mamta is hitting back hard.
13:28Senior MP Kalyan Banerjee dismissed the numbers,
13:31and saying that they're all fabricated.
13:33In fact, he put out his own list of numbers.
13:35You're seeing that list on your screen right now.
13:37Several MPs have already rejected the rebel camp's claims,
13:41and have also branded the descendants as traitors.
13:45His challenge is clear.
13:46Resign from the party,
13:47or face the people.
13:49So, who really has the numbers,
13:51and is this a rebellion,
13:53or is this the beginning of a formal split?
13:54The political Mahabharat inside the TMC,
13:58is only getting more intense.
14:01These are some of the reactions coming in.
14:05Therefore, those who are making the allegations
14:08against the party,
14:11and want to see differently,
14:14they must follow the pathway of Sukhandu Shikhar Rai.
14:19They must show their political morality
14:21by resigning
14:25as member of parliament.
14:27I do not know
14:29how many persons are there at all.
14:31Sign this.
14:33But,
14:34fact is this,
14:36such an important document
14:38has not come
14:41in public domain.
14:43Creates a suspicion
14:46about the letter,
14:48author,
14:49and the signature of the persons.
14:52If you are so honest,
14:54why did you not publish the document?
14:58Do not do this.
15:00Do not do this.
15:02Do not do it.
15:03Do not resign.
15:04Do not do it.
15:08Let not do it.
15:09That will come to the next step.
15:11It is a debate.
15:13It is a debate.
15:15It is a debate.
15:16It is a debate.
15:18How do you do it?
15:21You have to be a debate.
15:26I have been with Mamata Banerjee for 40 years, she has been my guide, my mentor and my leader
15:32and I have been with her even in the days when she was not in power.
15:36I have contested in five elections and lost before 2009.
15:42So it is useless to say that just because she is not in power in West Bengal, I have
15:48left.
15:48It is not that I was with her when she was not in power.
15:51But at that time there was a policy which was pro-people agenda for poor people of the
15:58state of West Bengal.
15:59She was not even the chief minister, she was working for the people.
16:02But in the last three, four years, the work has been suboptimal, their development has
16:10been suboptimal.
16:11A lot of financial irregularities have cropped in which are being proved today.
16:17All right, Piyush Mishra and Anupam Mishra both joining us for details on the story.
16:23Piyush and Anupam.
16:25Piyush, let me come to you first to understand because the story is not just about TMC anymore.
16:31Just some time back, Mamata Banerjee met with Sonia Gandhi as well.
16:36Right?
16:37And there are murmurs now growing on whether or not TMC, which initially came from the
16:41Congress party, could actually, or Mamata Banerjee's TMC, let's call it that, there could be a
16:46possibility where there's a merger that takes place.
16:50Now, are we to understand that this TMC Congress meeting, this buzz of a merger that's happening
16:56is purely for numbers to defeat the anti-defection law?
17:02Well, it was a very crucial meeting here, Sonal, and the meeting taking place at the time
17:08when Mamata Banerjee is facing the biggest ever revolt in her own party, the party which
17:13she formed.
17:13She, you know, had resigned from the Congress party many years back.
17:17She formed the party in Lutra date and today, after ruling as chief minister in West Bengal
17:24Israel for 15 years, now she's facing the revolt and this meeting was basically to discuss
17:28about what is happening in the state of West Bengal.
17:31As of now, the details are yet to come as to what has been discussed, but there's no doubt
17:35that Mamata Banerjee must have, you know, informed Sonia Gandhi about the rebellion which
17:40she's facing.
17:41During the India blog meeting also, we had seen the kind of equation which both the leaders
17:45have had and similar sort of equation would have been there during the meeting also, which
17:51again happened.
17:52But there's no doubt that Mamata Banerjee is facing the biggest ever political test in
17:57our political career.
17:59In the last two days, we have seen a series of meetings taking place in Delhi, first at
18:03the residence of Bhopayang Radha, where Bipavdev was also present, Shwendu Dikari was also
18:09there.
18:09Then, you know, yesterday in late night, we also saw another meeting happening at the residence
18:14of Stathabjirwai, where around 10 to 12 MPs had turned up.
18:18But what is more important to highlight here is that at one side, Kapuridas is claiming
18:23that around 20 MPs of TMC have signed the letter and they are all together.
18:28But we cannot see this gathering of 20 MPs at one place.
18:32It did not happen at the residence of Bhopayang Radha.
18:35Then at Shwendu Dikari's residence also we saw only…
18:38If they had the numbers, they would have already met the speaker, right?
18:41Like that simple.
18:42That's what they would have done.
18:43They would have already met the speaker by now and said that they want to move in.
18:47Yeah.
18:47They have informed speaker.
18:49They have informed speaker.
18:51They have informed speaker.
18:51They are also seeking time from speaker.
18:53Sources have confirmed to us.
18:54The moment speaker is back in Delhi, this group will go and meet with speaker and they
18:59are going to submit the letter.
19:00As of now, meeting has not happened.
19:02They are still in touch with the speaker's office.
19:04Speaker right now is in Chandigarh for a program.
19:07Most actually by tomorrow morning, you will be back in Delhi.
19:09And then this rebel group will go and meet with Lokas.
19:12So tomorrow will be critical once the speaker is back, once the claims and counterclaims
19:17can settle.
19:17Whoever has the numbers, and in this case if the rebel camp has the numbers and BJP claims
19:23to have roped them in, then they can easily just walk over and say that they are moving
19:27and joining in the BJP.
19:29So let's see what really happens over the next 24 hours, critical 24 hours over there.
19:33But let's cut across to some more news coming in before I go to my colleague there.
19:37Now TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, we are told, lost his temper at the Kolkata airport after
19:44a few people chanted Jai Shri Ram and some claims coming that he was also called a thief.
19:50Now people at the Kolkata airport surrounded MP Kalyan Banerjee and shouted slogans labeling
19:54him a thief.
19:55The MP lost his composter, we are told, and retorted to the crowd declaring that Suvendu
20:00Adhikari is a thief and that Suvendu Adhikari's father is also a thief.
20:04So let's just listen in to what happened and then we'll decode this.
20:13Corpata airport afterwards!
20:16Corpata airport!
20:20Corpata airport!
20:25Corpata부 pertama notified处ducation
20:27Corpata airport!
20:28Corpata airport!
20:31Corpata airport!
20:35All right, Anupam Mishra, my colleague, joins us for the very latest on this.
20:39Anupam, if I'm reading the sequence of events here correctly,
20:44some people started sloganeering, they said Jaya Sriram,
20:48and then perhaps some supporters who called Kalyan Banerjee a thief,
20:52and in response he says, I'm not a thief, so Hindu Adhikari is a thief.
20:56Am I correct to understand the sequence of events here?
21:04Well, you know, Kalyan Banerjee, who held a press conference today at Delhi,
21:08was coming from Delhi, and when he landed at Kolkata Airport,
21:11and he came out from the airport and he started giving the press bite,
21:16and the incident happened at the time.
21:18A few of the passengers who were there listening to the bite of Kalyan Banerjee
21:24have started sloganeering Jaya Sriram,
21:27and then an argument broke between Kalyan Banerjee and the onlookers,
21:32and the passengers out there, and the passengers also told Kalyan Banerjee that
21:38TNC, all of the TNC are thieves.
21:40Then Kalyan Banerjee started shouting, initially he shouted,
21:44Jaya Bangla, then he started shouting, Shubhendu Adhikari is a thief.
21:47So this is the whole incident which happened around an hour back at Calcutta Airport
21:52when he came out, and it's a very active day in Kolkata also.
21:58Let me show you the presence of Central Forces and CID team
22:02outside the residence of Mamata Banerjee.
22:04This is the residence of, official residence of Mamata Banerjee,
22:0730B Hari Strategy Street, where a CID team is probing the case of forced document,
22:13a forced signature on a document, on a letter served to assembly for the purpose of leader
22:19of opposition by TMC, and a team of CID comprising nine members of the CID team
22:24had just entered inside the residence of Mamata Banerjee,
22:28and there is a office, TMC office, inside the premises of Mamata Banerjee,
22:33where a team of CID has just entered.
22:35They wanted to search.
22:36Initially, they have been denied the permission to enter inside the residence.
22:39After a prolonged discussion, the CID team was allowed to enter,
22:43and around nine members entered.
22:45A lot of CID members are outside.
22:49Central Forces are also deployed here.
22:51So it's a very active day in Kolkata today,
22:56where we are witnessing that for the last 15 years,
23:00it's an unprecedented development in Kolkata,
23:03where a team of CID is entering inside the former chief minister of West Bengal.
23:09So right now, they are conducting a raid,
23:12and they are conducting the search operation inside the party office of TMC,
23:17which is situated inside the residence of Mamata Banerjee.
23:21All right, Anubha, may I understand that correctly?
23:23They are not just there to serve a notice.
23:25They are actually inside, and raids are being carried out.
23:27They are going to come out with paperwork and other evidence?
23:31No, it's not just there to serve a notice.
23:32No, it's not just there to serve a notice.
23:34No, it's not just there to serve a notice.
23:34Yes, yes, yes.
23:35Let me show you.
23:36These are the visuals of the CID team inside the residence of Mamata Banerjee.
23:40This is the official residence of Mamata Banerjee,
23:4230B Harish Chatterjee Street in Kaligat.
23:45And a team of CID,
23:46you can see a team of CID inside the residence of Mamata Banerjee,
23:50because the team of CID wanted to search the party office.
23:54A party office is also situated inside the premises of this residence of Mamata Banerjee.
23:58And a team of CID wanted to enter inside the team,
24:02and then the permission was denied by the TMC leaders out there in Mamata Banerjee residence.
24:09They said that since Mamata Banerjee is not here, Abhishek Banerjee is not here,
24:12you can't enter.
24:13After a prolonged discussion, a team of CID entered after, say, half an hour,
24:18and they are right now trying to search the party office,
24:22which is inside the premises of Mamata Banerjee,
24:24in connection with the case of forced signature on a letter given by TMC,
24:31signed by Abhishek Banerjee on a letter pad of TMC to assembly.
24:38And right now, Kalyan Banerjee is also entering inside the residence of Mamata Banerjee.
24:43You can see Kalyan Banerjee, who has just reached Kolkata a few hours back,
24:49and then right now he is entering Mamata Banerjee residence.
24:53Madan Mitra, you can also see MLA Madan Mitra, MP Kalyan Banerjee,
24:58outside the residence of Mamata Banerjee.
25:00So this is the situation right now, outside the residence of Mamata Banerjee.
25:06All right, dramatic pictures there.
25:09CID inside the residence of Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata.
25:13Mamata Banerjee is not in Kolkata right now.
25:16This is a case that pertains to Abhishek Banerjee.
25:19CID was expected there to serve him a notice,
25:21asking Abhishek Banerjee to join the investigation.
25:25But in a dramatic turn, we are now seeing that the CID officials are inside,
25:30carrying out a raid.
25:31And now it looks like the TMC leaders have also reached there.
25:35The TMC leaders from Mamata's camp have also reached there
25:38and trying to decipher what exactly is happening.
25:41Unprecedented situation completely, and one has to note the timing of it.
25:48The minute TMC is not in power, central agencies,
25:53and not at just the doorstep of Mamata Banerjee, but inside her house.
25:58We are told why the house, because it is also one of the places
26:03where the party office comes from.
26:05There is a small party office there,
26:07and we are told the CID officials are currently inside,
26:12trying, in fact, carrying out a raid.
26:14Both are sitting.
26:15If we go, we may temper something.
26:18We may disturb the investigation.
26:20But Kolkata Banerjee is a lawyer.
26:22He has gone as a lawyer.
26:23But Mamata Banerjee, when he came to the office,
26:30he was the chief minister and the MLAB was the only one.
26:33What is it?
26:36You don't need to go inside?
26:39No, we are talking about the investigation.
26:42We are talking about the police.
26:45We are talking about the police.
26:45The police have requested the police.
26:47Don't go, don't go, don't go.
26:48We are talking about the investigation.
26:49The investigation is running.
26:50All right.
26:51We are talking about the road.
26:52We are looking at the road.
26:52We do not have the road.
26:53No, no.
26:54But there's no name.
26:56They have no name in this case.
26:57There's no name.
26:58Of course?
26:58Not the name of Silent Authority case.
27:00But we don't have the lawyer.
27:03Our lawyer is senior.
27:06Mananda, here's the CID.
27:08She's sitting here with the party office.
27:11Now, do you know what happens?
27:15How do we know about this?
27:26foreign
27:27foreign
27:27foreign
27:27foreign
27:34foreign
27:47seven times mp four times central minister two times central
27:53.
28:23Why did it not happen?
28:25Do you think we are going to disturb ourselves?
28:28The lady chief minister was a national, international.
28:33He has a knowledge of the status of a leader.
28:39When he was in Calcutta, he was not here.
28:41He was here.
28:43He was here.
28:44When he was not here for 2-3 days,
28:48he was not here for the situation.
28:58This is an important moment.
29:01He has a priority in the situation.
29:04He has a priority in the situation.
29:06He's not here for the situation.
29:07He has an announcement.
29:08He has a program in Delhi.
29:08He is here for the situation.
29:12This is possible for the situation.
29:13That's right.
29:20Alright, so my colleague
29:22they're taking us through
29:25what exactly is happening outside
29:27the Kalighat residence
29:28of Mamta Banerjee
29:31CID inside carrying out raids
29:33Mamta and Abhishek not in town
29:35in Delhi and
29:37the TMC Mamta
29:39camp leaders now camping
29:41outside, Kalyan Banerjee who's her
29:43lawyer has gone inside to finally find
29:45out what's happening, so clearly
29:47it's an attack on
29:49all fronts on the TMC
29:51MLAs are divided, MPs
29:53are divided and she's not out of
29:55any trouble with the central agencies
29:57as well, tricky times ahead
29:59for TMC
30:06Alright, cutting across
30:07to some health news now coming in
30:09from Kerala, now there is a health scare
30:11playing out in Kerala right now and it is
30:13worth understanding clearly because
30:15the numbers sound frightening but the full picture
30:17is more nuanced than ever
30:19now it started with the death
30:21a four year old girl died
30:24over the weekend at the medical
30:26college in Kodikot, she was
30:28admitted on a Tuesday, by Friday the doctors
30:30had confirmed that she was fighting
30:32a bacteria and the bacterial
30:34infection called Shingella
30:36now the health minister says
30:38that this is Kerala's first death from the
30:40disease in this round
30:42why do I say this round? I'll explain that
30:44but the cluster everyone
30:46is now watching is Bainard
30:48because at one school there
30:50two students have tested positive
30:52a boy of four and a half
30:54and a girl of five
30:55that alone
30:56would not make headlines
30:57but it does
31:00become a number to watch out for
31:02when those numbers increase
31:03because more than 300 children
31:06from that school have now turned up
31:07at the hospital since last week
31:10with symptoms like fever, vomiting
31:12also diarrhea. At one point
31:14over a hundred were still admitted
31:16so what do the numbers
31:18tell you at the moment?
31:20Hold those two figures together
31:21at the moment and two confirmed cases
31:23and several hundred children
31:26showing the symptoms
31:27that gap is exactly why the state
31:30is now on alert
31:31and here is why Shingella actually is
31:34and why it matters
31:35now it is a highly contagious bacteria
31:38that attacks the gut
31:39it spreads the way
31:41like most infections do
31:43which is usually through
31:44contaminated food or water
31:45and through close contact
31:46the main symptoms are
31:48diarrhea and fever
31:49and in most people
31:50it is mild and passes on
31:52on its own
31:53the danger is for
31:54very young people
31:56who or anybody
31:57who's extremely old
31:59or already unwell
32:00but
32:01there is some
32:03reassuring
32:04reassuring news here as well
32:06now the part that officials
32:08are saying is
32:08that the health minister
32:09has pointed out
32:10that the children
32:11currently in hospital
32:12are all above the age of 8
32:14Shingella
32:17generally tends to turn critical
32:19in children under 5
32:20now he's travelling to Vyanar
32:22we are told himself
32:23to review the response
32:24and a meeting of doctors
32:25and local officials
32:26is being held there
32:27to coordinate response as well
32:28and across the state
32:29around 120 cases
32:32have been reported
32:33food safety inspectors
32:35have been told to fan out
32:37every district has been asked
32:38to watch for symptoms
32:39and keep medicines taught
32:41but talking about medicines
32:44this is the part
32:45worth
32:46sort of understanding
32:47and noting
32:48none of this
32:49is new to Kerala
32:50especially
32:51the north
32:52go back to December of 2020
32:54and you will understand
32:55that the same district
32:56of Kodikot
32:57an 11 year old
32:58had died then too
33:00and around 40 cases
33:02had been reported
33:02before it was brought
33:04under control
33:05at the time
33:06the health minister
33:07had said something
33:08telling that Shingella
33:09is now
33:10not new to the state
33:12and that it had been
33:13contained many times before
33:14and that it has turned up
33:16in the neighbouring district
33:17a few years earlier as well
33:18then
33:19look at
33:20this
33:22March
33:23March
33:23of
33:252026
33:26and again in Kodikot
33:27a 3 year old
33:28had died
33:28and more than 60
33:29people
33:30kids there
33:31had fallen ill
33:31most of them
33:33in that age group
33:35of kids
33:36who are going to school
33:37an Anganbadi worker
33:40was shut
33:42health teams
33:43went door to door
33:45water sources
33:46were chlorinized
33:47and that is how
33:48they managed to
33:49contain the situation
33:50so a pattern
33:51starts to show
33:52and it tends to
33:53flare in the same pockets
33:55it tends to hit
33:56children hardest
33:56it tends to
33:58flow
33:58in water
33:59often around
34:01the same schools
34:02as they reopen
34:03large groups
34:04start sort of
34:05sharing the same supply
34:06but here is what
34:08you need to know
34:09about Shingela
34:09there is no vaccine
34:11for it
34:12that is available
34:13in India at least
34:14but the treatment
34:14is through
34:15antibiotics
34:16remember I said
34:17it is not a virus
34:18it is a bacteria
34:19which means
34:20that prevention
34:21is not
34:22just one tool
34:24it is
34:24there is
34:25a medication
34:27that is actually
34:28available
34:28but why
34:29people are
34:30falling status
34:31because remember
34:32Indians
34:32we abuse
34:33antibiotics
34:34and that means
34:35a lot of us
34:36tend to be
34:36antibiotic resistance
34:38which is what
34:38the fear seems
34:39to be there
34:40that is why
34:40kids are getting
34:41serious
34:41and they are
34:42not being able
34:43to control it
34:44so where does
34:46that leave us
34:46the government's
34:47message at the
34:48moment is
34:49to be serious
34:50but steady
34:51no patient is
34:52critical till now
34:53according to them
34:54the worry is not
34:55of the two
34:56confirmed cases
34:56it is the speed
34:58at which something
34:58waterborne can move
35:00through a school
35:00remember a neighbourhood
35:01even a town
35:02the same advice
35:03comes after every
35:05outbreak because
35:05the outbreaks keep
35:06coming back
35:07to the same
35:08gaps in the same
35:09places in the same
35:10state as well
35:11which is why it is
35:12worth saying plainly
35:13one more time
35:14that clean water
35:16clean hands
35:17safe food
35:18that is what
35:19decides whether
35:20a scare like this
35:21is small
35:22or it blows up
35:31let's cut across
35:32to some news
35:33updates coming in
35:34this is health
35:34minister jp
35:35nadda and
35:36education minister
35:36dharmenet pradhan
35:37who are holding
35:38a meeting with
35:39officials from the
35:40ministry of health
35:41and ministry of
35:42education regarding
35:42the neat paper
35:44leak case
35:45even as
35:46lacks of students
35:47prepare for the
35:48re-examination on
35:49the 21st of june
35:51the pressure is on
35:51the government and
35:53the national testing
35:53agency and the
35:55pressure that
35:56continues to mount
35:56remember union
35:58minister dharmenet
35:59pradhan today
35:59reviewed the
36:00preparation of the
36:01nta headquarters
36:02admitting that the
36:03agencies remain on
36:04high alert over
36:05possible cyber
36:06threats and that
36:07you know states
36:08who are considered
36:10vulnerable are being
36:11closely monitored as
36:12well but the
36:13question surrounding
36:14need refused to
36:15die down in a
36:16significant development
36:17top officials from
36:19the education and
36:20health ministries the
36:21nta and the
36:21national medical
36:22commission have
36:23now been summoned
36:24by yet another
36:25parliamentary panel to
36:27explain the conduct
36:28of the re-examination
36:29this remember after
36:31the indian air force
36:33has been deployed to
36:34ensure the papers are
36:35delivered without a
36:37leak this after prime
36:38minister we are told
36:39himself is looking
36:40into the matter
36:41will all these
36:43preparations really
36:44hold will 21st of
36:46june ensure that the
36:48paper is conducted
36:49without glitches
36:50without a leak
36:52that's something we'll
36:53keep a very close eye
36:55on for the moment
36:56we're going to slip
36:57into a break stay
36:58tuned to india today
37:01all right we're told
37:01dharmeen pradhan's soundbite
37:04is also coming in let's
37:04just listen into that
37:07it's a great question
37:08it's a great deal that
37:09it's a great deal that
37:11we've got to
37:11tell you
37:12the
37:12the
37:12national
37:12national
37:13Our House Secretaries are over with the Crooming Committee and Home Secretaries of the former
