Shan, RJ and Bobby reacted to the breaking news that Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby has been granted a temporary injunction against the NCAA and will be eligible to play for the Red Raiders in 2026.
Transcript
00:00It's the Red Zone brought to you by Just Love Coffee, the official coffee of the morning show on 105
00:05.3 The Fan
00:06with some humongous breaking news in the world of college football.
00:10My phone blew up from Medford, Kevin Walker, Wolchuk, Josh Clark, Pete Thamel
00:17with the breaking news amongst others and Choppy is floored.
00:21I am just stunned, but a judge in district court in Lubbock County
00:28Jacob Ray has granted the injunction requested by Tech quarterback Brennan Soresby
00:33set to be eligible for the 2026 season.
00:36Jake got the Tech hat on today.
00:38The court finds that the applicant demonstrated he will suffer probable imminent
00:43and irreparable injury.
00:45This court does not issue this temporary injunction because he will be unable
00:50to participate as a member of the football program.
00:53Wow.
00:54So he's playing the whole season, no suspension.
00:56So the part of what he said is he will be he will be able to benefit from the elite
01:02coaching, training and camaraderie of being a member of a D1 team.
01:06He will build the skills necessary to maximize his own success during the college
01:11football season, as well as that as the football program.
01:14And he will be able to make an informed decision whether to enter the 2026 NFL
01:19supplemental draft.
01:20So I guess what they're saying is this gives him a chance to decide whether he wants
01:24to enter the draft or play.
01:27But as of now.
01:28Man, what?
01:29This is a joke.
01:31I'm sorry, Tech fans.
01:32You really can't.
01:33I don't care.
01:34You can't.
01:34You can't be like.
01:35And as Jake just pointed out, not even not even suspension.
01:41Not even.
01:41I thought it was going to be six games.
01:43Not two, three.
01:44Not six.
01:45So that's what this is.
01:46They're like.
01:47So it's a I'm sure Ross Dellinger is saying, oh, man, I don't know how they're
01:51going to handle it.
01:52Soresbury will not participate in Tech's first two games as a condition of the
01:56injunction, which is ACU.
01:58Yeah.
01:58And Oregon State.
01:59Right.
02:01So somebody on the fan text may be able to clarify if they've got a legal
02:05background.
02:05So this is a temporary.
02:07It's what a temporary restraining order, an injunction or whatever.
02:09So like it's a hold basically.
02:11So what he's saying is if we enforce this now, it's going to irreparably ruin his
02:15career before we can litigate it or something.
02:17I think that's basically what they're saying is that they're saying it's not
02:20enough time to be able to like flesh this out and find out whether he has a
02:23case or not.
02:24Like the Zeke stuff.
02:25You remember how Zeke, they kept putting it on hold.
02:26Yeah.
02:27And then ultimately, as soon as it got reversed, then he had to go.
02:29And is this the end of the legal rulings or can someone else weigh in
02:33overrule?
02:34I don't I don't know.
02:35Let me know about that.
02:36I don't know how that works.
02:37I would text Florio, but, you know, we're in the outs.
02:39But like, I mean, he admitted to placing hundreds of bets, thousands of bets,
02:44uh, many on, on his own team.
02:46Like this is, I don't care if you're a tech fan or not.
02:50This is insanity.
02:51It really is.
02:52Because you're opening.
02:54You're opening.
02:55You're, you now have made it so you can bet on your own team in college
02:59football, college basketball, you know, all these, like we have seen point
03:04shaving in college basketball.
03:05No one's really been able to prove it.
03:07We've kind of like been suspecting of it in, in, in several spots, but now all
03:11this goes with it, you can sit there, you're a G5 guy.
03:15You're not getting any NIL money, hardly at all.
03:18But if now you want to point shave and get a little kickback from the fixer, you
03:25know, Greg Anthony in that hot tub with UNLV, that doesn't matter anymore.
03:33Uh, yeah.
03:34I mean, this is dangerous.
03:36It's ridiculous.
03:38And, uh, I don't, yeah, I know you're, this is a lot of excitement to go nine
03:42and three, dude, and lose to Baylor.
03:44Okay.
03:45Okay.
03:46So honestly, you guys are probably in the worst position.
03:48Sourceby sucks, but I would five picks in the spring game.
03:51Yeah.
03:52I would, um, he must've had the over.
03:56I, I have a lot of like assumptions that I don't think I could legally say what
04:02I think they are, but I'll just say like, I, this is ridiculous to me by like, maybe
04:07there's some sort of narrow legal explanation that justifies.
04:10And again, if it's a temporary thing where they're like, we can't litigate it and it's
04:13harmful to his career.
04:14And so we can't harm his career before we know if he's innocent or not.
04:16Is it also, do I expect this judge to understand the ramification, the, the, the, the ramifications
04:26of this?
04:27Do I expect, you expect him to rule simply on this?
04:30You know what I mean?
04:31Yeah.
04:31To opening up.
04:32Yeah.
04:33That's not, see, given the green light for, for players to gamble the same.
04:37Yeah.
04:37I mean, he, that's not his problem, right?
04:40The judge or her or her, the judge is just supposed to rule on, by the way, it was Peyton's
04:44wedding her.
04:45Yeah.
04:47Yeah.
04:47You know, Bobby, my school remains the only school to lose in court with their own
04:51judge.
04:52Still to this day.
04:53The only one.
04:54This wasn't their own judge.
04:54Remember?
04:55What, Bruce?
04:55No, with Joey Aguilar, our quarterback this year, is supposed to play this year.
04:59We're the only ones to lose.
05:00We're the only ones to lose in court.
05:02This is, no, this is like, this wasn't their judge.
05:05Remember?
05:05The other guy recused himself.
05:07We're going to get an impartial judge in here.
05:09It's still a Lubbock County judge.
05:10Yeah.
05:11You know, it's like.
05:12Cody Campbell's got a big name.
05:13Yeah.
05:14Man.
05:15I am just stunned.
05:16Breaking news.
05:19Soresby gets the green light, missing the first two games eligible for the 2026 season.
05:27877-881-1053.
05:30877-881-1053.
05:31Every single person who is not a tech fan is losing their minds talking about how bad
05:37this is.
05:37I'm calling on your mark.
05:39My guy.
05:40He's going to have to spend them.
05:42Your guy.
05:43My guy, bro.
05:44I love him.
05:44He's the best commissioner, I think.
05:45I love him.
05:46So there's the breaking news.
05:47We'll cross-talk with KNC coming up at 940.
05:50So I just threw this through chat GPT.
05:52I threw the ruling through there just to see clarity on it.
05:54And so this is not the final ruling, according to chat GPT, which could be wrong.
05:58But it says the ruling rests on a narrower point whether the NCAA can enforce permanent
06:02ineligibility for right now.
06:04So it's literally just addressing, we've got to put a hold on it because we've got to
06:07have this answered.
06:08And just to be clear, none of my reaction is towards tech.
06:12I, you know, this whole tech, Texas thing, I'm on the Red Raiders side.
06:17I can't stand the Longhorn fans.
06:19And they're arrogant.
06:20It had everything to do with it.
06:21It had nothing to do with it.
06:22I don't know.
06:23Your Texas, University of Texas wants you to get dirt in your base paths.
06:26Sort of turf all over the place.
06:29So I just said that to let you know, this isn't a team allegiance thing for me.
06:34I just want to continue to know that college football is not compromised.
06:40Now, yes, you can, people already say it already is.
06:43All sports are.
06:43Come on, conspiracy theorists, blah, blah, blah.
06:45I don't want to open up all these possibilities to compromise it.
06:50Right.
06:51That's what I'm afraid of.
06:52Absolutely.
06:52I don't care about tech, tech season.
06:54Have a good season, whatever.
06:55But, like, I don't want the trickle down, man.
06:58That's what I'm worried about.
06:59I totally agree.
07:01This is a really troubling rule.
07:04This is a landmark decision.
07:06Oh, my God.
07:07If this sticks moving forward.
07:08So landmark.
07:09And I don't know, like, what happens now?
07:11Like, does this mean that the door is open for all these kids to gamble?
07:15I mean, it sounds like it is.
07:17Sounds like that's what it is.
07:18Yeah.
07:18It's very troubling.
07:20So it's not, it wouldn't be precedent, it doesn't look like, because it basically doesn't
07:25rule on the question of, like, are you allowed, was he allowed to do this?
07:28It just rules on, like, let's talk about it at a later date.
07:31Like, it's basically just, like, justifying a delay.
07:33And they go, and if we're going to delay it and we can't answer it, we can't punish the
07:37guy because maybe he'll be found innocent.
07:38We don't know if he was right or not.
07:39But it's like, you know what's right or not.
07:41So maybe if they ultimately decide guilt, then the next case, the precedent is actually the
07:48guilt.
07:48Yeah.
07:48Like, in February, this could get litigated out.
07:52And ultimately, he's then found, like, nope, you weren't allowed to do that.
07:54But they're like, well, yeah, okay, he wasn't allowed to do it.
07:55But we couldn't irreparably harm him when he was still innocent until proven guilty.
07:58Like, this is wild.
08:00Like, he made himself the victim here.
08:03How much were you panicking and freaking out when it looked like he was ineligible, Jake?
08:08And who were you guys going to turn to?
08:10So it was going to be Will Hammond, the backup quarterback.
08:12Now, he was the one who came in for Barron Morton last year in the Utah game and balled
08:16out.
08:17But he is coming off a torn ACL.
08:19The reports were he would be good by week two.
08:22Well, he's a really talented player.
08:23But a big part of his game is relying on his legs.
08:26And that's not necessarily what you want, having a guy come off a torn ACL.
08:30But he was going to be a starter before we got Soresby, so.
