00:00This headline slapped me in the face to the point where I was on a meeting this morning
00:03when the news broke and I thought it was one of the satire accounts. How foolish do you feel
00:09if you're a coach, an athletic director, a university president, a player, what have you,
00:14that ever just voluntarily succumbed to NFL or NCAA sanctions? If you self-reported violations
00:22in recent history, how foolish do you feel? If you cannot govern the matters that are in your lane,
00:28you don't exist. You're just four letters. The NCAA is just kind of four letters now.
00:33That was college football analyst Josh Pates on the Rich Eisen Show. Monday, a judge granted a
00:39preliminary injunction that will allow Brendan Soresby to play this upcoming season for Texas
00:44Tech despite admitting to gambling on sports including bets involving his own team. We're
00:50talking about $90,000 worth of bets. The NCAA has already filed a notice of appeal in the 7th
00:57District of Texas that signals this fight is going to enter round three. Now, the ruling from Judge
01:04Ken Curry sent shockwaves through college athletics. Multiple Big 12 athletic directors expressing
01:12frustration over the decision. In fact, memo to a staff, Georgia forbade its school's teams for
01:19playing Texas Tech. This was according to our friend Pete Thamel over at ESPN. Big 10 officials are
01:25expected to discuss in the upcoming days. League-wide mandate not to schedule Texas Tech in any
01:31sports this season. That's according to ESPN and three Big 10 sources. This came in the wake of
01:38Nebraska AD. Troy Dannen telling ESPN that his schools cannot schedule the Red Raiders. And this is
01:45insane. And in a move surprising no one, the Texas court scheduled Sorby's trial against the NCAA on
01:52February the 27th, February 8th, 2027, two weeks after the college football playoff national
01:59championship. And here's the kicker with regards to the NCAA's appeal. All four judges currently serving
02:06the 7th court of appeals attended. Wait for it. Texas Tech. So there's so much on this. Okay. Number
02:14one, if you read the court's ruling yesterday, the judge's ruling yesterday, he thought that missing
02:19and being banned from college football and not playing this year was going to hurt Sorby beyond
02:27what he did. First of all, that's garbage. You can't bet on anything. It's defined in the bylaws.
02:36I mean, Rick Neweisel got fired from Washington for an NCAA basketball tournament pool. It wasn't even
02:42the same sport. Everyone knows the rules. Okay. Everyone understands it. You bet thousands upon
02:48thousands of dollars on college football on your own team. You're paying for life. You get Pete
02:54Rose. And Pete Rose shouldn't have been Pete Rose. He's been in the Hall of Fame. I mean,
02:59this is the 1919 Black Sox. This is Shoeless Joe Jackson. You can't do this. And the fact that
03:07Sorby is eligible to play, going to be suspended two games, Oregon State and Albaling Christian. I mean,
03:14I could find, you know, 10 friends in the post newsroom and we could beat Albaling Christian. I mean,
03:20what that is despicable, honestly. And here's another thing that not enough people are talking
03:27about. Soresby is not learning anything. He's clearly a gambling addict, clearly has a problem.
03:35This is a first round quarterback talent. And he was more than willing to throw it all away,
03:41piss it all away to wager on his own team and wager on college football. He needed to learn something.
03:48And I don't want to hear, well, it was too stiff of a penalty. He was going to go into
03:52the
03:52supplemental draft. It's been a shine time topic. We talked about whether or not the Jets or other
03:58teams. I listed six teams that you consider Soresby this summer for the NFL. If, remember my words,
04:07he checked out that he knew what was wrong in terms of his gambling habit and addiction. And that's what
04:13this is. So the fact that he can do this and he could play this year, just, it's sick, Nick.
04:21And I'm telling you,
04:22I love what these athletic directors are doing. They're basically telling the school, go to hell. We don't want to
04:28play you. We're not scheduling you. This is an embarrassment, an absolute embarrassment. And, you know,
04:34you almost want to say, rest in peace, college athletics, you know, declare, write the epitaph for
04:41the NCAA. I mean, there's so much garbage and nonsense going on in college sports and college
04:46athletics and college football. I mean, all of it, right? But this takes the cake. This bothered me
04:53like no other. When this broke the ruling yesterday, you could have knocked me over
05:00with a feather. I did not even believe this was real. How could you have the proof, the admission
05:06of betting, the knowledge? It's a do and a don't, and it was don't to the nth degree. I mean,
05:13this is like Pete Rose has a penalty. And Pete Rose should have been banned from baseball,
05:18right? But should be in the Hall of Fame. I'll always argue that. This is like, you know,
05:22Bart Giamatti saying, all right, you're going to miss a West Coast swing to, you know, LA and San
05:29Diego. That's the equivalent here. What a complete and utter pathetic state of affairs. You could
05:36officially call it. The NCAA does not exist anymore. And I'm worried for the kid. He is a gambling
05:44addict. And he was just told, because you're a quarterback and you might go in the first round,
05:50you could do whatever you want. That absolutely made me sick.
