A band of heavy rain pushes in this morning and through the day, moving slowly northeastwards and bringing some heavy, possibly thundery, persistent rain to much of England, Wales and Scotland. In the wake of the rain band, it will leave a legacy of showers and some drier spells later in the evening in western areas. Temperatures dropping compared to yesterday. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 27/08/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Alex Burkill.

00:00Hello. Very good morning to you. After a bit of a showery day yesterday, today we have a band of heavy, perhaps even thundery rain that's pushing across many parts.
00:09That's because there's a frontal system currently towards the southwest, but it is going to make its way northeastwards as we go through the day.
00:16Ahead of it, though, actually across large chunks of Scotland and much of England, it's a fine picture this morning.
00:22Some decent sunshine well into the afternoon as well, particularly towards the east.
00:26However, we do have this band of heavy, perhaps even thundery rain making its way across, initially across Northern Ireland, Wales, southwest England, but then feeding across much of England and large chunks of Scotland as well.
00:38Actually towards the northeast of Scotland, clinging on to some bright sunny weather through much of the afternoon, albeit for Shetland, some low cloud taking a little while to clear today.
00:47And also worth highlighting that as this band of rain pushes through, it is going to break up a little bit and actually across parts of the south, southeast by the time it reaches here, it's not going to be so persistent, just some showery bursts to watch out for.
01:00These will be a bit more hit and miss compared to other places.
01:03Nonetheless, worth bearing in mind, the rain could be quite heavy at times and there will be some gusty winds mixed in with it as well.
01:09But then things will be turning drier across western areas later, albeit a scattering of showers pushing in across parts of Northern Ireland.
01:17Now, temperatures generally are going to be a couple of degrees down compared to yesterday, particularly in the east.
01:23We're looking at highs around 23, maybe 24 Celsius across parts of East Anglia, for example, where we cling on to the drier, sunnier weather for that little bit longer.
01:33But most places, high teens, just about low 20s, and always feeling that fair bit fresher when we get that rain pushing through and with those gusty winds.
01:42That band of rain does eventually push and clear away towards the northeast later on tonight.
01:47It'll take a little while to clear the far northeast of Scotland, but it's not looking especially heavy by the time it reaches here.
01:53And then overnight, central and eastern parts turning largely dry, lots of clear skies, but further west, more showers piling their way in and a bit more cloud mixed in.
02:02And because of the cloud in the west, that will keep the temperatures from dropping especially low here.
02:07Further east, however, with the clearest skies a bit fresher, a bit fresher than last night for many places.
02:13Towns and cities, yes, just about holding up in double figures, but some rural spots could get to mid-single figures perhaps.
02:20So a bit of a fresh start to the day for some of us tomorrow.
02:24But a bright one across those eastern parts and clinging on to a decent amount of sunshine through much of the morning.
02:30Further west, lots of cloud, lots of showers.
02:32And these showers are actually going to become more widespread, more frequent as we go through the day, pushing into those eastern parts.
02:39So even here, a scattering of showers are likely to develop.
02:42Some of the showers could be heavy.
02:43There could be some thunder mixed in with them, and they could be a little bit blustery at times.
02:47And worth noting across parts of Northern Ireland, there could be a spell of more persistent rain feeding in.
02:53Now, because there's likely to be a fair bit more cloud than we've seen through recent days, recent weeks, really, temperatures are going to be a little bit lower still tomorrow compared to recent days, just about getting into the low 20s in a few places.
03:06Most areas, though, mid to high teens, obviously in any sunny breaks, feeling pretty warm, but with often cloudy skies and those blustery showers to watch out for, a different feel to what we've become used to through much of summer.
03:20Then as we go towards the end of the week, well, Friday's looking like another showery day, more showery bursts to come as we go through the weekend for many of us.
03:27We do need to watch out, though, across parts of the south-southwest, in particular on Saturday.
03:32There's likely to be a spell of heavier rain pushing through and also some strong winds in association with what could be quite a deep area of low pressure.
03:41I'll have more information about that in our latest 10-day trend, but also worth noting that our temperatures, well, they're around average for the time of year.
03:49But obviously feeling a little bit fresher and the unsettled weather.
03:53Like I said, I'll have more detail about all that in the 10-day trend, which I'll be bringing to you on our YouTube channel later on.
03:59Bye-bye.
