A fine afternoon for many in the UK today, with warm sunny spells across much of England and Wales through to this evening. Cloudier in Scotland and Northern Ireland where it will also be a touch cooler. Later tonight a band of rain with gusty winds pushes in from the west to affect Northern Ireland and Scotland, and then Wales and England by the morning. There will be some heavy blustery downpours especially in the northwest. This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 02/06/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Alex Burkill.

00:00Hello. Yes, it's the first week of meteorological summer and there's a summery feel to things for many today, but there is a change on the way.
00:09That's because there's an area of low pressure to the northwest of us and the associated cold front that's going to sweep through as we go through later today and into tomorrow with something fresher and more changeable following in behind.
00:21But back to the rest of Monday. A few showers here and there across parts of Scotland for sure and also eastern England. East Anglia could see some sharp ones elsewhere and relatively cloudy picture across Northern Ireland, but across the rest of England and Wales, a decent amount of fine sunshine on offer.
00:38And in that sunshine, we're not feeling too bad at all. Temperatures getting into the low 20 Celsius for many. Further north and west, a bit fresher than this, mid, possibly high teen Celsius.
00:48And worth bearing in mind, the winds will be starting to pick up from the northwest as we go through the afternoon.
00:54Also worth bearing in mind that while you may be suffering from hay fever at the moment, particularly across parts of central southern England, here we have some high or very high levels and grass pollen causing a problem at the moment.
01:07I know for one that I'm starting to suffer as well. But later on, as we go through this evening, that front I mentioned pushes in across parts of Northern Ireland and across parts of Scotland and continues to make its way east and southeastwards as we go overnight.
01:21In terms of rainfall totals, looking at potentially 20 to 30 millimetres, maybe 35 millimetres in some places towards the northwest and a large chunk of this coming in just six to nine hours.
01:32So as a result, there could be some impacts, particularly across western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:38By the early hours of tomorrow morning, well, that front's going to be lying somewhere across northern England through Wales and towards the southwest.
01:45So turning pretty wet there and then plenty of blustery showers following in behind across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:51It's not just the rain we need to watch out for. There will be some strong gusts of wind as well.
01:56Towards the southeast, staying largely dry, some clear skies, but even still, temperatures not dropping a huge amount for many places, generally staying in double figures.
02:04But we do have some fresher air coming in from the northwest behind this front.
02:08And so then as we go through Tuesday, yes, a bit of a wet start for some across northern parts of England, into the Midlands and across Wales.
02:15But eventually that front does continue to progress southeastwards.
02:19It goes quite slowly, though, and is going to linger for a time across the southeast.
02:23So a bit of a damp afternoon across some parts of the southeast, albeit the rain nowhere near as heavy as it will have been across parts of the northwest.
02:32And then elsewhere, still more showers following in behind.
02:35Showers, by their very nature, are hit and miss, so you're not everywhere will get any.
02:40And there will be some sunny, bright, sunny breaks around.
02:43But worth bearing in mind, these showers could be quite heavy and we will still have some blustery winds.
02:48Low pressure to the north of us, not especially far away, so there could be some relatively strong gusts mixed in.
02:54Like I said, some fresher air coming in behind this front.
02:57And so temperatures for many on Tuesday are going to be a little bit lower than they have been of late.
03:02It's still just about getting to 20 Celsius across particularly the Midlands, where we get some decent sunshine following in behind the front.
03:12But across parts of the southeast, if you're stuck under the cloud and rain in association with that front, temperatures are going to be quite suppressed.
03:19And elsewhere, a markedly fresher feel than of late, especially when you factor in those blustery winds.
03:25Now, as we go through the rest of the week, the cooler, more changeable theme really does continue.
03:31There's going to be a bit more rain at times, starting off mainly focused towards the north.
03:35But I think the focus of the rain will push a bit further southwards as we go through this weekend.
03:39That rain could be quite heavy.
03:40There could be some rumbles of thunder at times.
03:43And like I said, a cooler theme to things.
03:45But worth bearing in mind at this time of year, even a little bit cooler than average, is still pleasantly warm at times.
03:51Some places will be getting into the low 20s if you get any decent sunshine, of which there will be some around.
03:57For a more in-depth look at what we can expect through this week, check out our week ahead forecast, which will be available with honour later on.
04:04I'll see you again soon. Bye bye.
