A stormy weekend is in store for the Northeast and mid-Atlantic as heat and humidity ramp up.
Transcript
00:00So now we're running 5 to 15 degrees above historical averages, and the only thing preventing you from getting to
00:04the beach may be the work schedule right now.
00:07But this weekend, looking a lot more popular at the beaches.
00:11Friday and Saturday, very warm days.
00:13There will eventually be some areas that challenge record highs.
00:17Now, there won't be many tomorrow, but there will be a few.
00:19So the record hottest June 5th in the books in Dulles, Virginia, was 92.
00:24That's low-hanging fruit from just five years ago.
00:27We may break that record.
00:29Another record that will be in jeopardy, it will be close, will be Iceland, New York.
00:34Other areas, pretty shy of records here for Friday.
00:38But it will be very warm, and the heat builds on Saturday as well.
00:42In fact, Saturday may be the hottest day in the Baltimore and D.C. metro, and this is when the
00:46beaches will be very popular places.
00:48So the record hottest June 6th in Washington, D.C., was 101 years ago, June 6th of 1925, 97.
00:54We'll almost make it there in 2026.
00:5796 degrees, our forecast.
00:59We do expect to break our record high in Richmond and in Dulles, Virginia.
01:02So record high is likely for those two areas on Saturday.
01:06And as we move forward here, you're going to be dealing with the gradual return of some thunderstorms.
01:11Showers and thunderstorms roll into the interior northeast first.
01:15Friday is mainly Great Lakes, but Saturday, here come some scattered storms for some.
01:20Uh-oh, didn't mean to do that.
01:21And here we can see these storms become more numerous into Sunday farther south into parts of Virginia, probably mainly
01:27south of D.C.
01:28That's a forecast trend we need to keep a close eye on.
01:31So Saturday, most of the action is going to be near and north of Interstate 80.
01:36Very hot to the south.
01:37Some of these storms will be severe, though.
01:39Northern Ohio, Pennsylvania, upstate New York.
01:41Damaging wind is the main concern.
01:42And then into Sunday, you can see our front drops in.
01:46And as this pushes farther south, it's going to bring some cooling.
01:50And also, it will restrict the severe thunderstorm risk area farther south.
01:55And again, we're a little more confident in areas maybe south of D.C.
01:59for the best shot for severe weather on Sunday.
02:01We've got to keep an eye on the forecast trends and the timing for that Harrisburg, Hagerstown, Philadelphia area.
02:06Some question as to exactly where the storms fire off.
02:09Now,
