00:05after his mother repeatedly rejected a man's marriage proposals
00:08in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad.
00:10According to police, the accused, Jitendra Patak,
00:13had been pressuring the child's mother, Rati,
00:16to marry him despite knowing she was already married and had a son.
00:20Family members said Jitendra had gained the trust of the toddler, Arav,
00:25by regularly taking him for walks and buying him chocolates.
00:29On Saturday, 30th May, he allegedly took the child out
00:33on the pretext of buying candy.
00:35Investigators claimed the accused then took the boy to a deserted area
00:38and fatally assaulted him before abandoning the body outside the family's house.
00:43The child was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
00:46CCTV footage reportedly captured the accused carrying the child before the incident.
00:51Police believe the accused targeted the toddler
00:53because he viewed him as an obstacle to his desire to marry the child's mother.
00:57Later the same day, police tracked down the accused.
01:01Officials said he allegedly opened fire while attempting to flee,
