00:01Catherine Mayfair was not the kind of woman who liked to relive the past.
00:06But when her husband Adam left her, Catherine's life began to unravel.
00:12And the mistakes of her youth started to flash through her mind.
00:16She thought of Wayne Davis, the first man she married.
00:20And the first time, he had hit her.
00:23She thought of how sincerely he apologized.
00:26And how meaningless his apologies were.
00:30And how she finally decided to hit back.
00:34These were the thoughts going through Catherine's mind.
00:37When her friends and neighbors arrived.
00:41Bearing gifts.
00:44Well, hello there.
00:45What's all this?
00:46We brought you muffins.
00:48And jam.
00:50Okay, what's the occasion?
00:52Well, we heard you were having a rough time.
00:54So we just wanted you to know that we're here for you.
00:57Ah, so word is out that Adam's left me.
00:59And you thought that muffins and jam would help me pick up the pieces.
01:06The jam was Bree's idea.
01:07Susan!
01:08I wanted to bring flowers and I was shot down.
01:09That's all I'm saying.
01:10Catherine, we didn't come here to upset you.
01:12No, we thought that you just might need someone to talk to.
01:15No, you just thought you'd get the juicy details.
01:17No, we came here, we wanted to help you to fix you lunch or clean your house.
01:25Or offer up our own houses for you to clean, if that's your thing.
01:29I'm fine, surely.
01:30And I do appreciate your concern, but, you know.
01:37I told them you weren't into jam.
01:39Susan!
01:42Look, I don't mean to pry, but given what I know about you and Adam, I'm surprised he was the
01:47one to do the leaving.
01:49Well, Bree, the truth is, I really don't want to talk about it.
01:56I understand, but whatever you do, don't keep your feelings bottled up.
02:00You've got to let him out.
02:03I'll do that.
02:06I'll do that.
02:27I'll do that.
02:30I'll do that.
02:30So, I'll leave the past, but lately her life had begun to unravel.
02:35And she couldn't help thinking of all the mistakes she had made.
02:40And especially, the one she had buried.
02:48it happened once a week on Wisteria Lane like clockwork the faithful would emerge
02:54from their homes in their Sunday best with their family Bibles and their rosary beads
03:04and they would head off to their various houses of worship passing by a certain
03:09non-believer who had never taken an interest in their ritual but on this day Lynette Scavo for
03:21the first time in her life was struck by something something she would later think of as divine
03:29inspiration we should go to church what why what did we do that's just
03:40we've been through a lot lately and we have a lot to be thankful for
03:43don't you think we owe the big guy a little face time fine fine we'll go to church next week
03:53I'm serious what's the rush God will still be there next Sunday the Pistons on the other hand
03:58they lose today they're gone for good so I'm clear you can't be bothered with saving your
04:03eternal soul because the Pistons have no defense okay look you didn't grow up going to church
04:09I did my parents dragged me to St. Anthony's every Sunday I've done my time well I haven't
04:16I have some questions I would like answered and I don't know anything about God or Jesus
04:21and our kids don't either well you don't have to go to church to learn that stuff yeah I know
04:26about

04:55about the ladies auxiliary again damn right free please such language on a Sunday I'm sorry but I
04:59have to make sure that he doesn't let her chair that committee well how could he you plan every
05:02pancake breakfast you organize every bake sale you'd be a saint if our church believed in that sort of
05:06hogwash exactly and all the while where was Edna lounging around in Zimbabwe in the peace
05:10court you won't let any of us forget it well I wouldn't worry Edna's curing the village of
05:15dysentery story long since lost his novelty oh Lynette hi you look pretty what are you all dressed up for
05:22well I decided I should go to church today yeah Tom said the same thing anyway since you're the most
05:29religious person I know I was wondering if you would take us to your church I would love that
05:33we're leaving right now you can follow us great just give me a second to sell Tom on the idea
05:38you know he was raised Catholic oh don't go Catholic all that standing and kneeling and
05:43genuflecting I go for worship not a workout not to mention the incense which smells good at first

07:23boy you were just determined to make this awkward aren't you oh Gabrielle okay look in the eyes of the
07:28church Carlos and I were never divorced technically the affair was with Victor and God smoked him so we're

09:15this is the nourishment each soul requires to go from acorn to oak and this is what should bring
09:21us peace in our hearts the blessed knowledge that God's love for us is as sure as the sunlight
09:27and that it is always shining we only need see it amen now if you take out your hymnals and

10:08you have your answer now sit the reason I ask is there are wars all over the world and it
10:14seems
10:14like every month some dumbass walks into a school and starts shooting children so I'm thinking God's
10:20love not so sure she just ain't dumbass ah the eternal question why do bad things happen to good
10:31people what you have to remember is God gave us free will much of the evil in the world is
10:36brought
10:37on by man himself oh lord yes Lynette okay I give you that one but what about the tornado that
10:46just

13:06it's the diamond bracelet you gave me it must be worth thousands of dollars
13:10do you think you still have the receipt for it uh I think I threw it out
13:16oh well you said it was from Cartier right I'm sure they have some sort of record
13:23Carlos actually the box was from Cartier bracelets from a swap meet
13:33are you saying that those diamonds were cubic zirconius if we're lucky
13:41you son of a bitch I gave you my heart and all you could give me was fake jewelry

13:52I just spat on one of your jello cubes happy hunting
14:03hey you do you know how long it's going to be until Carlos gets his sight back
14:07because I have a two-word sentence I'd like to say to him and there's a hand gesture that goes
14:10along with it
14:11I don't know Mr. Solisa's condition is very serious serious what's wrong well you know you should really talk to
14:19the doctor about this I don't even think his girlfriend knows

15:24I just don't get it I mean why would your mom lie about your dad being murdered
15:28are you serious
15:34Julie she's the one who killed him
15:42hi babe I'm about to do something that's going to make you very happy
15:46great but close the curtain first last time the nurse almost walked in when you were about to

16:25so what do you say will you marry me
16:31okay
16:35holy matrimony

16:37Gabby before we get started there's something that I need to tell you
16:41in private
16:49okay he's gone what's up
16:50look I haven't been completely honest with you about the extent of my injury

16:56the doctor says
16:59I might not get my sight back
17:02for three months
17:03four tops
17:05I just want to make sure that you can handle that
17:09wow

17:17but for better or worse right
17:24okay Padre
17:26we're ready
17:28let's take it from the top
17:29dearly beloved
17:30we are gathered here in the sight of God
17:31to join this man and this woman
17:33in the holy sacrament of matrimony
17:40you're out of milk
17:41want me to pick some up
17:43no it's okay I can wait
17:44I don't mind

18:05where's that milk
18:07oh I thought you didn't want any
18:08I'm having a baby
18:10I can't give birth with brittle bones
18:12go
18:15bye
18:21hey church buddy
18:23look what I got
18:24wow you thought of Bible
18:26yeah and I'm breaking her in tonight
18:29nothing like that new Bible smell
18:31oh so you're coming to Bible study
18:34yeah
18:35and I hope the reverend's ready
18:36because I've got about a zillion questions for him
18:40Lynette
18:40I realize you don't have much experience with churches
18:43so this really isn't your fault
18:44what isn't my fault?
18:46well last Sunday
18:47when you kept raising your hand
18:50we don't really do that
18:52the church isn't a place for questions
18:54it's a place for answers
18:56yeah
18:57but how do you get the answers
18:59if you don't ask the questions?
19:00well typically we sit there
19:01and let the preacher preach
19:02and eventually our questions are answered
19:04and no one is humiliated
19:07I'm sorry
19:08did I embarrass you on Sunday?
19:09well it's just that
19:11in our church
19:11people don't talk back to the minister
19:14what if I need to?
19:16what if that's the kind of church I'm looking for?
19:18well then maybe you should explore other options
19:20I mean if you really enjoy talking back to the pulpit
19:24why don't you try that gospel church by the airport?
19:29okay
19:32or off the Unitarians
19:33from what I hear those folks are anything goes
19:49hey Adam it's Dylan
19:50I waited at your hotel all day
19:52but you never came back
19:53you have to call me
19:54I found this note that Aunt Lily wrote
19:56mom threw it in the fireplace
19:57but I fished it out
19:59and I have to talk to you
20:01call me on my cell
20:02not at home
20:02because I
20:05she doesn't know anything
20:06I can hear it in her voice
20:07but she's got the note
20:09maybe a few burnt pieces
20:11trust me
20:12she's got her questions
20:13well I could
20:14refuse to see her
20:17yeah
20:18because that won't arouse her suspicion
20:20no
20:21you are going to ask her to come here
20:24and then you're going to find out exactly what she knows
20:26and what she doesn't
20:28after all these years
20:29maybe it would be easier just to finally tell her the truth
20:32and you would just wave goodbye as they cart me off to jail
20:34she wouldn't call the police
20:37seriously I think you two have a great relationship
20:39then you have not been paying attention
20:44give me a chance to get home
20:45then call her
20:45instead of a time for you two to meet
20:47okay
20:51you know
20:54when you called me tonight
20:57I was half hoping you missed me
21:01really
21:04I miss you
21:08I'm so terribly lonely
21:12you know I don't do well on my own
21:17there any chance we could
21:20get past this
21:21and you could come back home
21:26I will talk to Dylan
21:28I will provide you
21:29one last alibi
21:32after that I'm done
21:49you guys out of here?
21:50yes I'm going to run some errands
21:51and Orson's going to take Benjamin to the park
21:53actually I thought I might take him to the museum
21:55you know how much Benjamin loves Matisse
21:57Benjamin doesn't love Matisse
21:59he loves purple
22:00please stop trying to turn her son
22:01into an intellectual
22:02if you saw how her first two turned out
22:09you'd understand how important it is
22:11for me to fight the vandecamp DNA
22:29hey it's Tim it was great seeing you the other day
22:33yeah I can't stop thinking about you either
22:36so listen um
22:38I've got the whole place to myself
22:40you want to come over
22:44hey Gabby
22:45I heard you and Carlos got married yesterday
22:48I guess this means you win
22:50oh Edie
22:51it wasn't a competition
22:53but yeah
22:53I guess I did
22:54yeah
22:56but I think it's all for the best
22:57I mean after all
22:58I could have never been the hero
22:59that you're about to be
23:02hero?
23:02why am I a hero?
23:04committing your life to a man who's blind?
23:07oh my god
23:08you're going to have to do everything for him
23:09dress him
23:09shave him
23:10lead him to the bathroom
23:11pray that his aim is halfway decent
23:12it's not a big deal
23:14Carlos is going to get his sight back in three months
23:16four tops
23:17is that what he told you?
23:19you poor gullible fool
23:23what are you talking about?
23:25I hate to be the one to tell you this
23:27but I talked to the nurse
23:29and she said that his condition is
23:30oh what's the word
23:32um
23:32oh yeah
23:34permanent
23:36I don't believe you
23:37call the doctor if you'd like
23:38and apparently he was begging Carlos to tell you
23:43no
23:43no no no
23:44this can't be true
23:45look on the bright side
23:46women who are married to blind guys
23:48don't have to worry about makeup
23:49or getting fat
23:53are you sure you didn't already know about this?
23:56okay I'm calling Dr. Dunlap
23:59you do that
24:00oh and by the way
24:03congrats on your big win
24:10so how's your occupational therapy going?
24:12do they still have you scrubbing pots in the kitchen?
24:14oh no
24:15once they found out I'm a professional plumber
24:16I got promoted to scrubbing toilets
24:18hmm
24:18well maybe you won't mind doing a little scrubbing
24:20when you come home next week
24:21actually the doctors kind of frown on that
24:23they encourage us to leave that sort of stuff behind
24:25well it doesn't have to be toilets
24:26I mean it could be sinks, bathtubs
24:28you're making me want to use, Susan
24:30this junkie thing's awesome
24:32oh I forgot
24:33Tim has some questions about the taxes
24:35do you mind talking to him?
24:36I don't mind
24:38though I can't believe you'd have any trouble
24:39with your cookie tin filing system
24:45hello?
24:46hey

24:48do you want to talk to him?

25:46during my nap I had the filthiest little dream
25:48I was kind of hoping maybe we could
25:51skip straight to dessert?
25:53yeah
25:54what do you say?

31:35I meant sample
31:36like a buffet
31:37you take a little bite of everything
31:39and then you sit down for the main course

32:25and Reverend Sykes was so impressed
32:27that I brought a new family into church
32:29so
32:30if you don't come back
32:31then
32:32oh
32:32then you won't get what you want?

32:39Lynette
32:40you were the one who came to me
32:42you sought me out
32:43yes
32:43and do you know why?
32:45because out of all my friends
32:46you're the one who had real faith
32:48you had an actual relationship with God
32:51at least that's what I thought
32:53Lynette
32:54because I have had a rough few months
32:57okay?
32:58but I know you've had rough times too
32:59and I always assumed that your faith
33:01had helped you get through them
33:03I envied you that
33:05to be honest
33:06it did
33:07it did help me
33:11really?
33:13okay
33:14now
33:17it just did
33:18well that's not a good answer
33:20I have been through cancer
33:21and a tornado
33:22and I don't know why I survived
33:23and so many other people didn't
33:26I don't
33:27understand
33:29and I need to
33:30Lynette
33:31why didn't you tell me?
33:32why didn't you ask?
33:37well that's right
33:38you don't like asking questions
33:51hey Lynette
33:52hey there
33:55just
33:57wanted to tell you
33:57that I'm out of the running
33:58for the ladies
33:59auxiliary
34:00I told Reverend Sykes
34:01to give it to Edna Fletcher
34:04she was in the Peace Corps
34:05you know
34:06huh
34:06that's nice of you
34:08I suppose
34:09just wanted to let you know that
34:12and also to
34:14apologize
34:15you don't have to do that
34:17yes I do
34:18you were right
34:19faith shouldn't be blind
34:20you don't threaten it
34:21by asking questions
34:22you make it stronger
34:23and I lost sight of that
34:26well maybe a little
34:27and it meant a lot
34:28that you came to me
34:29for guidance
34:30and
34:31I'm sorry
34:32that I wasn't there for you
34:35I want you to have faith
34:36in me
34:37and our friendship
34:41wow
34:43there's some things
34:43that are easy to believe in
34:50how's Catholicism going
34:51by the way
34:54well if you ever want to
34:55try us again
34:56oh well
34:57we're pretty comfortable
34:58with the Catholics
34:59they're the only ones
35:00who don't judge me
35:00for having so many kids
35:06hey
35:07hey
35:11okay so I have to ask
35:13this thing that happened
35:13with you and Catherine
35:14twelve years ago
35:16was it an ongoing affair
35:18no
35:19no it was just the one time
35:21and I think she felt
35:22pretty guilty about it
35:23afterwards
35:23she told me not to come
35:24around anymore
35:26so you didn't go back
35:30it's weird
35:30I tried to
35:33it was the last night
35:33of my visit
35:35I thought if I brought
35:35her some flowers
35:36maybe I could get
35:37something going
35:38you know
35:39but when I got up
35:40to the front door
35:40I heard all this yelling
35:44I went around to the window
35:45just to get a look
35:46at what was going on
35:48and I could see
35:49she was having a fight
35:49with someone
35:51I was about to rush in
35:52and help her
35:52when I saw Catherine
35:53pick up this candlestick
35:55and just wail on him
35:58he went down pretty hard
36:00Catherine was just
36:01standing over him
36:02with this look
36:03in her eye
36:04it scared the hell
36:05out of me
36:07so I got out of there
36:10I left the next morning
36:11and never talked
36:12to Catherine again
36:15so
36:17this man
36:17who do you think it was
36:19don't know
36:20I sort of got the impression
36:21he was her ex-husband
36:23did she ever talk about him
36:24not really
36:27have you seen him lately
36:30no
36:37ever since I can remember
36:38I've had this feeling
36:40that something's not right
36:43weird dreams
36:44that don't seem
36:45like dreams at all
36:47people telling me
36:48I forgot things
36:49that I know
36:50I would have remembered
36:56and now finally
36:57I find a sentence
36:59on a piece of paper
37:00that could explain
37:02all of it
37:03and prove
37:04that I am not crazy
37:08and the best
37:08that you can come up with
37:11is that Aunt Lily
37:12was losing it
37:13and she didn't know
37:13what she was writing
37:19I need the truth
37:20Adam
37:22please
37:24please
37:28the truth
37:28Dylan
37:31is that
37:34your mother
37:35didn't kill your father
37:39and she loves you
37:40more than you will ever know
37:51faith is a belief
37:52in something
37:53that cannot be proven
37:57so we trust in the words
37:59of the only father
38:00we've ever known
38:04we believe the promises
38:06of the woman
38:06who shares our bed
38:11we rely on the example
38:13of dear friends
38:14who help us
38:15to be better people
38:20yes
38:20we all want to believe
38:22in those
38:23we are closest to
38:25but where there is doubt
38:26our faith begins to vanish
38:31and fear rushes in
38:33to take its place
