Beating Bangladesh 3-0 in the ODI series in the Caribbean last year is a thing of the past.

So says West Indies captain Shai Hope as the men in maroon are certainly not taking the hosts for granted in this month's 50-over contest, which bowls off on Saturday 18th October, in Mirpur.

Hope has utmost respect for the Tigers, saying they play hard cricket in their own backyard.

00:00Valuable points are at stake as the West Indies aim to qualify for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.
00:07They face Bangladesh in a three-match ODI series in Mirpur, with game number one starting on Saturday.
00:14Despite sweeping Bangladesh 3-0 in last year's ODI series in the Caribbean,
00:19West Indies coach Darren Sami knows his players cannot underestimate the opposition going into this one.
00:23The last ODI series we played against Bangladesh at home was a successful one.
00:30We know they're a team that always brings that challenge to you at home.
00:36So my guys, and I'm pretty sure the captain would agree, we have to come here and play some good cricket in order to win.
00:42The answer is yes, as windy skipper Shehob does agree with coach Sami that it's a new ball game with both teams starting at nil-nil.
00:50He knows the Tigers at home are a different side.
00:53When we speak about cricket, it's always a better team on the day wins.
00:57So regardless of previous results, whether it's a long, long, long time ago or just in the recent past,
01:05it's still important to play cricket on the day.
01:07We understand that Bangladesh is a very, very powerful team, especially in their own conditions.
01:11They'll be familiar with what they have up there.
01:13So West Indies coming here in these foreign conditions, we understand the challenge won,
01:18and then we see what they've done in the recent past.
01:22So that could also be a motivation for the Bangladesh team.
01:24So we're definitely not going to be taking that lightly.
01:26Hope is an experienced player with 142 ODIs to his name.
01:31For those who have not played in Bangladesh, he has been educating them about the conditions.
01:35When you play in foreign conditions, it's very important as an experienced player or as a senior player in the team
01:41to share all the knowledge that you possibly can.
01:44And in this situation, we all have a desire to do well for West Indies,
01:49and it's very important as a cricketer, especially as a batter, to come into these conditions and perform well.
01:55So all the little learnings that I would have gained from my previous trip,
01:59it's about having those conversations with the remaining batters
02:01and trying to get the best out of each and every one of us.
02:03Samy is satisfied with the way his team has prepared for the series against Bangladesh.
02:09Those who did not participate in the recent test series against hosts India
02:13found other ways to prepare for the upcoming white ball matches.
02:17Keseikati, Akeem, Ogees, Shofen Rutherford, Gudikesh Moti, Amir Jangu,
02:26all of them were in Chennai in the academy.
02:31They're getting ready and preparing themselves.
02:33So I'm quite happy with the preparation that we've been able to make available.
02:39Will the pitch in Mirpur favour spin?
02:41Will it favour the home team?
02:43These are some of the questions that often go through the minds of many.
02:47However, Sammy does not want such things to affect his team.
02:51We will not let the pitch play on our minds.
02:58Wherever we go, the mantra remains the same.
03:01You've still got to assess the conditions that you are faced with.
03:05And then once you've assessed it, you've got to decide what skill set is required to be successful
03:11and then you back yourself in the delivery.
03:14And that's where you add something to your game, ADD.
03:17Following the ODI series, the teams then head to Chattogram
03:21to participate in M3 T20 Internationals.
03:24We know now on YouTube Sports.
