00:00all right look in in lieu of having a good baseball team to talk about and until they
00:06start playing better baseball one of the biggest storylines in the summer major league baseball
00:11is going to be school and his availability and you know it's our guy and you're trying to cash
00:17in you hope that the market uh leads to a bidding war and stoney had a theory this morning that
00:23because there might not be baseball this year some owners might be compelled to go all in
00:29and do some desperate things to try and make this run this season last as long as possible and that
00:35the tigers might be an advantageous position with a sell-off because of desperation to win
00:40what might be the last postseason for a couple of years yeah um so we're going to continue to
00:47monitor anything that's being said about it and it feels like on a daily basis we find stuff including
00:51this from mullion huff on 104 uh 104.3 the score in chicago talking about the cubs they had john
01:00hayman on from the new york post mlb insider does a really good job and asked him a bunch of
01:05uh
01:06questions about the cubs and scoobal and it started with how likely is it that scoobal gets moved
01:13uh
02:45Harris spent a bunch of years with the Cubs organization and knows people in the Cubs organization, but there's a
02:51link there and an open line of communications. And he's familiar with a lot of what the Cubs organization has.
02:57This is true. And it could give them a bit of a leg up and he talks in a trade
03:00for Tarek Skubel. And Heyman was asked about that. And here's what he said.
04:05They have according to MLB pipeline. And there's nothing that's that's terribly impressive there.
04:13There's some interesting players there. There's what there was one picture they have. I think it's Jackson Wiggins. I guess
04:20it has like wicked fastball, but he's a little bit all over place.
04:27Triple A. Yeah. And he was I want to make sure I'm getting it right with him that he had.
04:36Yeah, he's got this wicked great fastball over 100 miles an hour. He had been terrible in college. His first
04:44two years had a 6.17 earned run average in his first two college seasons at Arkansas. And then he
04:50missed the third with Tommy John surgery, but still got drafted.
04:53Because teams saw that.
04:56Well, he's got this crazy arm that could throw 100 miles an hour. Let's go for it. They gave him
05:00the chance and I'll get you drafted. Yeah. And he did a really pitched well in the minors last year
05:04in 19 starts or 19 games at a 219 earned run average. Only 44 hits in 78 innings with 97
05:10strikeouts. That's good. This year. He's only pitched eight innings, but that's their top pitching prospect that they have.
05:19But I'm looking for bats, right? And and I don't see many bats there. The best bet they have is
05:24you got to look at the major league roster if you want somebody there and they're not going to give
05:27them up. Michael Bush would be great. Well, they're not going to get Michael Bush.
05:32The names he mentioned were Matt Shaw, Moises Ballesteros and Kevin Alcantara, who are all up and are all playing
05:39for the Cubs, some more than others. And, you know, if you're if a guy is part of their nucleus
05:46and you're trying to win, it's hard to pry away players that they're using right now.
05:52Right. And Bayesteros has played in 47 games and has a 726 OPS. Matt Shaw plays played 42 games in
06:01right field, but he's only got 95 at bat. So it's it's kind of like, yeah, platoon type thing or
06:05late inning, you know, stuff. And he's got a 691 OPS.
06:11Alcantara doesn't play much at all.
06:13No, but Kevin Alcantara has only played in five games and I believe he was he's he's also was listed.
06:21He's their number five overall prospect and in a minors this year, he was hitting 242 before the call up,
06:29but had a 906 OPS before the call.
06:32I mean, that's an interesting player. That's a six foot six inch outfielder, 23 years old.
06:37That's intriguing. He's got that kind of power. And because he's young, he's growing into it a little bit.
06:43But the high strikeout guy throughout his tenure, but there's a lot. There's a lot of potential there. Yeah, but
06:50I don't love what the Cubs have to offer.
06:53I kind of love what the Dodgers would have to offer. But this is where you got to get into
06:57this bidding. Yeah, you got to try and figure it out.
06:59If you want pitching prospects, final thing from John Heyman, 104 three, the score in Chicago.
07:06If you want pitching prospects, the Cubs might not be the team to go to either.
07:24But the other thing with yourself, this is where, if you want pitching classes.
07:25If you want pitching throne, you go...
07:25That's the game that Wいます Maria.
07:25Not to him, I want pitchingbers.
08:19Okay, Hoyer, by the way, that he mentioned is their president of baseball operations there that has the link with
08:27Harris.
08:27All right, so what if, what if, would you take, and I don't even know, like, I almost hate to
08:34talk about this because there might be people in Chicago who say, hell no, we're not going to do that.
08:38But would you take Jackson Wiggins and Kevin Alcantara?
08:41So the pitcher that throws 100 and the 6'6 outfielder that's currently with the Cubs but hasn't played much?
08:47And so he's probably not one of the, like, core guys right here, right now.
08:51Would the Cubs do that?
08:52Would the Tigers do that?
08:53Would Gator do that?
08:55I mean, I'd consider that, yeah, you'd have to consider that.
08:59You're talking about a pitcher that has tremendous upside because of the arm, but he's already gone through an arm
09:04event.
09:06And, you know, position player and outfielder, the sky's the limit, really, you know, and he's just starting to kind
09:14of get into that.
09:15I'd be interested in that, but probably more interested in what the Dodgers have.
09:20And the Dodgers are loaded with outfielders, and that could be something there.
09:26But, you know, what we don't know is how aggressive a posture a team like the Cubs or Dodgers would
09:31take.
09:31And the other thing is I go back to it, the lesson that I'm willing to learn myself is go
09:39back to the Houston Astros trade with the Tigers, the whole Verlander situation.
09:45I'll take quality over quantity.
09:47Give me one stud over three guys with potential.
09:52You know, roll on the dice.
09:53I want the one thing that would be more of a sure thing than anything else.
09:56It's like back in the Houston day, I wanted Kyle Tucker, not necessarily the three-for-one deal that they
10:03got.
10:04And, I mean, look, it's hindsight in some aspects, but we did talk about Kyle Tucker back in the day
10:09on that.
10:10If that comes down to, you know, this with the Tigers, do the Cubs have that one guy?
10:15I don't think they do.
10:17But the Dodgers might.
10:182-4-8-5-3-9-9-9-7-9-7-9-7.
10:21Scoob will talk.
10:22It's what everybody in Major League Baseball, when it comes to the trade deadline, it is the number one thing
10:27that people are talking about.
10:28And the Tigers, they're continuing to position themselves to be sellers at the market.
10:34And unintentionally, but they are positioning themselves to be sellers at the market.
10:38We'll talk to you, get your thoughts, phone calls, feedback, as we continue on Carson Anderson here on 97.1.
