00:33baltimore and i'm sitting there going okay they're not going to win 14 to nothing but
00:41scoobal's cruising we're into the seventh inning it's seven nothing you know the score of a game
00:48any individual baseball game doesn't really matter throughout the course of a season
00:52there are going to be games like this but you know it made the comment that they'd have to really
00:57really blow your doors off to change my to change my opinion and then they went out and they they
01:05the one thing that i've been saying for weeks is that the bullpen has undermined any chance this team
01:12had for success they've been awful and it's been guys that they brought in and it's been guys they've
01:19counted on in the past and it's been a collective meltdown and you know it's it it it really there's
01:26a bunch of reasons why we sit where we sit and it's it's really weird to have a team that
01:33it feels
01:33like everybody wants your players because it would make you think you're pretty good but this team
01:40has i think a massive fatal flaw in the bullpen could they have if they had good bullpen arms
01:45they'd be in the thick of this they've been thick of this but they have been absolutely brutal
01:50and so here we sit as the major league baseball trade deadline is rapidly approaching and i think
01:56this the storyline is taking on nfl draft proportions well at least as far as 10 to 2 is covering

02:03you look at this thing and you go all right what's the best you can make out of a bad
02:07situation which
02:08is kind of something that i think is a tenet of life go through it all right bad situation what's

02:14best you can make of this is there an opportunity to capitalize here and there absolutely is an
02:18opportunity to capitalize here right now there are guys in the minor league systems in milwaukee
02:26and la and the cubs and philly and tampa and seattle and whoever else might start bidding on
02:35tarik skuble there are guys in those systems that are going to be really good major league baseball
02:41players and we've got a bit of a guide and that is prospect rankings but that's not a bible it

02:50is it's a guide but it's not a bible it's not written in stone and it's it's scott harris's job
02:58whether he's shopping scuble mines or glaber it's his job to to do the best job and identifying
03:06who those guys are and in some ways you know going against the rankings now i guess organizations
03:14have their own rankings right just because baseball america or mlb pipeline says this is the best
03:20prospect in a team's organization it doesn't mean that team sees it that way but you know you can
03:26you got a mind here be smart and score your next wave of regulars and not everyone you get back

03:35going to hit if you make if you if you unload like if this becomes a full sale fire sale

03:40know the full scale fire sale then you're going to get back four five six prospects they're all not
03:46going to hit but you can set yourself up for the future short term and long term you got to
03:54figure
03:55every rung you go down on the in the minor league level the further a guy away a guy is
04:00away from from
04:01being a detroit tiger for being a major leaguer i should say the more likely it is you have access
04:07to them i mean they could get a whole bunch of single a players like a whole bunch most likely
04:14but those guys are further away with more questions every time you level up in the in major league
04:20baseball and i shouldn't say major league baseball every time you level up in professional baseball
04:24from a to double a double a to triple a it could be your last move you move up to
04:29that next level
04:31and you can't compete at that level and you really don't know until a guy gets here
04:36and so scott harris and the tigers scouting department they've got a a template of what
04:45they're looking for we always heard about strike zone command so you're looking for guys with high ops
04:49guys with good on base percentages guys with low strikeout numbers and there are there are players
04:57that fit that bill in all these organizations and then there are guys that are close guys that you
05:03might if you make a trade for it you might put them at the major league level right away i
05:07don't know i
05:07would that i would given the work stoppage but given the fact that the news broke today that they
05:12call are calling up max clark that tells me they're not going to just park guys in minor league baseball
05:18leave them off the 40 man roster and let them play next year in the minors because minor league baseball
05:25will be played but if you're on the 40 man you're part of a lockout or a strike and you
05:31can't play
05:33and i was i was well we'll get to it coming up i don't want to bury the lead here

05:39scoobal full-fledged sell-off i think you see what you can get for glaber torres
05:43mines is different if i'm running this organization casey mines doesn't have scott boris as an agent
05:50so you know i would i would pull on the full court press and start talking extension if they haven't
05:57already if they have i would crank it up even more right now uh casey mines because he doesn't have
06:04boris as an agent you know agent's job is to maximize profits but in in the case of when you
06:10hire
06:10boris i feel like you're maximizing your income at all costs you'd sign to play on neptune if they
06:19offered the most money if you're a boris client and you know so the coffers of the dodgers the yankees
06:28and some of these other bigger market organizations cubs texas those teams are where boris is going to
06:36try and create a bidding war mys doesn't have boris as an agent and so i would really try to
06:42lock up casey mines i'm a casey mines fan and i don't think they need to launch into a full
06:48-scale
06:48rebuild others disagree um and we got some of that pushback yesterday this feels like a reboot
06:55unplug the tigers bring in some uh bring in some minor leaguers and some prospects
07:02go out and revamp the bullpen in the offseason then plug them back in and at that point life
07:08without scoobal and torres is is feels awfully likely to me i i don't necessarily want to have
07:16to replace two starters and maybe three don't know what's going to happen with flaherty here
07:22but two starters and maybe three off what is one of the best starting rotations in baseball
07:28and you know joe is is on his way reese olsen will be back but bottom line here is i
07:35think if
07:35you start getting to the point we have to replace three starters i don't know if you know what you
07:40can count on i've been in favor of giving mines a framework like contract years maybe not the money
07:45but you know close enough that would get casey mines to bite so and if if you find that you're
07:52far
07:52apart then i'll send out casey mines as well but before the trade deadline i would want to know what
07:59that asking price is that would make him say yeah i'll sign a contract extension and i might meet it
08:03i might meet it so here we sit jeff passan says it might happen in the next couple of days

08:15said it last night that it could happen today or tomorrow there were close enough to the trade
08:20deadline that you could probably walk around and get people's final last final i need your final
08:24offer right now because what you don't want to have happen is the prospects that you are eyeing get
08:31traded for other players and teams start saying i'm not going to wait for scoobal i'm going to go get
08:37another starting pitcher from someone else and then they're off the table and the supply and demand
08:43thing right now the demand for tarik scoobal and the bidders for tarik scoobal seems pretty wide ranging
08:51and so you know i i think it's wise to do it in the next 24 to 48 hours and

09:00say can i interest you in a casey mize if mize has no no interest in in resigning in detroit

09:08numbers ridiculous but that that felt like a significant day yesterday you know there there are
09:15losses and then there are losses and if you were there you watched it you listened to it you were
09:20paying attention to it that felt like it could be an organizational a moment in time that changes the
09:30direction of what they're doing i was already in sell mode but the way this is getting portrayed
09:36and the way people are talking now it sounds like any shred of a chance that the tigers were
09:43going to go for it went out the window yesterday okay so here we go what do you want in

09:54follow minor league baseball or you can just tell us how much you want you're asking for a top 10

10:14straight up for scoobal would you do it
