00:01On this episode of Counting Cars, we double down on a killer custom hot rod.
00:07How do you keep this twin-engine car on the road?
00:09Carefully.
00:13My detailer, Rolly, lets loosen the shop.
00:15Paulie, what are you doing?
00:17Good thing I cannot bust the window in it.
00:19Go to my office and get ready for a piss test.
00:22Good morning, Mike, and I tear up the streets of Vegas in a vintage dune buggy.
00:28Let's get out of here before the cops come.
00:30Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
00:32Vegas is a gambling town.
00:34Most people bet with chips.
00:36I bet with rides.
00:38Look at this.
00:39And I always go all in.
00:41Wow.
00:41What would you take for this?
00:43I'm Danny, a.k.a. the Count, and this is my all-star team.
00:48We find them, fix them, crew every job's high stakes, and we can't afford to lose.
00:53This is Counting Cars.
01:09How's it going?
01:10Good afternoon.
01:11Nice ride.
01:12Thank you very much, sir.
01:13What year is it?
01:14It's a 31.
01:15Nice.
01:15What's going on?
01:16We need to make this nicer.
01:18Certainly.
01:18We can help with that.
01:20Let me go get Danny.
01:21Perfect.
01:21I'm Rolly.
01:22I'm from Hungary.
01:23I'm the detailer here at Kent Customs.
01:26I just can't stand when a car is dirty.
01:28I just clean everything.
01:31Danny, I got a customer here like to talk to you.
01:34He has a 31 hot rod.
01:36A dirty...
01:37A dirty one.
01:38A dirty one.
01:38A dirty one, yeah.
01:411931 hot rod.
01:43Okay.
01:43It's red with the flames.
01:44It looks cool, but he wanted it to look cooler and nicer and better.
01:48Look at what?
01:49Nice.
01:50Nice.
01:52Roller's got that language barrier, so he comes in, tries to tell you something, and
01:55you're like, I need that two or three times.
01:57It wouldn't be a day without messing with my accent.
02:01I thought I was coming out to look at a dirty one or something.
02:04I didn't know who was dirty and who was the one.
02:06I'm not sure.
02:07Anthony, this is Danny.
02:09Pleasure.
02:09Check you out.
02:10That's sweet.
02:11I love it.
02:13The windshield is, in my opinion, is one of the prettiest things on the car.
02:17It's an old, devolved windshield is what they call it, where it's split like that and
02:21laid back in an angle.
02:22It's a gorgeous windshield.
02:23Thanks.
02:24That's the definition of a hot rod, man.
02:25Hot rods from the early 30s is really where they're at.
02:28And this car falls right in the middle of it, man.
02:30So how rare these cars are?
02:32Well, I tell you, you know, interestingly enough, this was an everyday man's car.
02:37They were extremely inexpensive.
02:39And a ton of them were built.
02:40This many years later, these cars are very expensive and are very sought after.
02:45Ford found a great way to mass produce these cars.
02:49They were the pioneers in the assembly line.
02:51And from 1927 to 1931, they sold about four and a half million of these Model As.
02:58Do you have a vision for it yourself?
03:00I mean, what do you want to see?
03:02The 31 Ford is in dire straits of some TLC and some love.
03:05It's been sitting for a long time, and the flames are getting a little old.
03:08I got you.
03:09There's one little thing that bothers me.
03:11What's that?
03:11I know you love the devolved windshield.
03:13Yes.
03:13But my height, the way I sit here, that's right where my eyes sit.
03:17Right there.
03:18It's so annoying.
03:19It's right in your line.
03:19It's right in my line.
03:20It's nonstop doing this kind of thing.
03:22That's no fun.
03:23No, no.
03:23You should just put the pillow on the seat or something.
03:28We like to joke around.
03:31This devolved windshield has got to be one of my favorite parts of this 31.
03:35I think they're just beautiful.
03:36And we've got to figure out how we're going to make this work, because I don't want to
03:39lose that windshield, but I also agree with Anthony.
03:41Driving around and not being able to see, that's a bad thing.
03:44Brother, I love it.
03:45Now, the scary thing is the budget.
03:47$15,000.
03:49Okay.
03:49We would love to do this, wouldn't we?
03:53I can't stand dirty.
04:00I think this is Scott's house right here on the left.
04:02It looks like Amityville Horror.
04:05Well, I can imagine living with Scott would be like Amityville Horror.
04:09Spooky.
04:09Uh-huh.
04:10Today, Kevin and I are out cruising one of my favorite neighborhoods.
04:13This place is a gold mine.
04:15Every time I come out here, I always find something cool, and I rarely ever leave empty-handed.
04:20Got some up here on the right.
04:21Yeah.
04:22It's an old Ford in the Galaxy.
04:24Oh.
04:28Holy f***.
04:30Oh, my God.
04:31Dude, I know you're going to taste that.
04:33You've got to be kidding me.
04:35Oh, my God.
04:37I've never seen anything like that.
04:38Dude, not like that.
04:40He's getting two motors on that car.
04:42I'll walk alongside him.
04:43I'll get him over.
04:43I'm going to talk to this guy.
04:45Wow.
04:46Hey, brother.
04:47Beautiful.
04:48I like it.
04:49Hey, we're car guys.
04:51Do you mind if we talk to you about it?
04:52Is that all right?
04:55Okay.
04:56Appreciate it.
04:56Cool.
04:58Danny and I have been doing this for 10 years.
04:59I've never seen anything like this Model T.
05:02I am totally blown away.
05:04Dude, this is insane.
05:07Yeah, you can see that.
05:07Oh, my gosh.
05:08What is this?
05:10About two years ago, I just came up with the idea to put two motors in a hot rod.
05:14It's probably the only one of its kind in the world, as far as I know.
05:17I've yet to see another one like it.
05:19It actually runs on both engines at the same time, and I know a number of other people have
05:24tried it, and it hasn't always exactly been successful.
05:27And I think that, in itself, is somewhat of an engineering feat.
05:31That's unbelievable.
05:32How do you keep this thing on the road?
05:34Well, carefully.
05:36I've seen some twin-engine cars before, and it seems to me the biggest problem that guys
05:42have had trying to make them work is having them work together, connecting them without
05:48the two engines destroying each other.
05:50How do you keep them synced up together and happy?
05:54It's got massive steel cogs and custom-built sprockets and a carbon fiber belt.
06:01It's virtually indestructible.
06:03I kind of engineered it all, put it all together, and bingo, it works.
06:07That's pretty amazing.
06:08That's impressive, man.
06:09You can put this all together like this.
06:11Danny, will you buy this for me?
06:15I cannot believe how much customizing and modifications that Gordon did.
06:20I wouldn't even begin to know what something like this is worth.
06:23If somebody said, I have to have this, what kind of number would you put on this?
06:27You'd have to really, really twist my arm to even get me to think of a good number.
06:32So somebody came with a hundred grand?
06:33I don't think so.
06:34A hundred and a half?
06:35No.
06:36Yeah.
06:37I'm one of these guys that doesn't sell.
06:39He just keeps buying.
06:40Brother, you and I need to talk.
06:42I think this guy Gordon and I have a lot in common.
06:45You know, one car is never enough type of thing.
06:48What else have you got?
06:49What have you got at home?
06:50Well, I got everything from hot rods and muscle cars, all the way up to Lamborghinis.
06:54Were we separated at birth or something?
06:57You got anything for sale?
06:58Well, we might be able to find you something.
07:00Do you mind bringing a couple of lunatics to your house so we can see your stuff?
07:03You guys come over.
07:03Seriously?
07:04Sweet.
07:05Can I ride with you?
07:06Let's do it.
07:06You bet.
07:07Kevin, would you mind grabbing the truck, man?
07:09I will.
07:10Thanks, man.
07:11I never get to go for a ride anyway.
07:13That's true, man.
07:14But I always tell you how much fun it is, don't I?
07:17Yep.
07:28But I get the feeling with this guy, I think I've hit the jackpot.
07:351957 Chevy.
07:36Forget about it, guys.
07:37Ain't for sale.
07:38Is this one for sale?
07:39No.
07:39I think you invited us over here to just make me feel bad.
07:42Yeah.
07:53Me and my new buddy Gordon, we're cruising back over to his house to see if he's got
07:57anything over there I might be able to work a deal on.
07:59What else you got hiding back here?
08:01Oh, all kinds of little goodies.
08:03Old Challenger here?
08:04Yep.
08:0573 Dodge Challenger.
08:07As you can see, it's seen better days.
08:09Yep.
08:09Now, there's one you might be able to twist my arm on.
08:11Oh, what you got hiding over here?
08:1456 Bird, right?
08:15Yes, sir.
08:16Man.
08:16It's an original color.
08:18Original color, but the green and the white interior.
08:22Wow.
08:23I don't think I've ever seen one like this.
08:25Yeah, according to the T-Bird registry office, this is possibly the only one ever made.
08:31Unbelievable.
08:33Gordon's got some really cool and some extremely rare cars in his collection.
08:38There's no way I'm leaving this place empty-handed.
08:4179 Z28.
08:43Is this one for sale?
08:44Nope.
08:47Here we go.
08:501957 Chevy.
08:51Forget about it, guys.
08:52For sale.
08:54Oh, dude.
08:5669 Corvette Stingray.
08:58Good Lord.
09:00This is one of my favorite cars in the world.
09:02Tell me about her.
09:03Well, it's factory four-speed.
09:06Love it.
09:06It'll probably just be every option that came out in the time.
09:10Uh, Gordon, how about let me haul this out of here?
09:12I'll give you $15,000 in cash.
09:19Man, you're going to have to dig a little deep on that, you know?
09:22It's going to take triple that.
09:23Really?
09:26I think you invited us over here to just make me feel bad.
09:29Yeah.
09:30Gordon's collection is sweet.
09:33Unfortunately for me, he knows what they're all worth.
09:36If I can't get it cheap, then I'm not going to make any money here.
09:38There is one thing out here that has been catching my eye.
09:41We haven't talked about it yet.
09:42Is that really an old Myers-Manks?
09:44Absolutely.
09:45Yeah, a dune buggy.
09:46Yeah.
09:47I could get seriously interested in talking to you about that one.
09:52The dune buggy craze was huge in the 70s, and Myers, man.
09:55Myers had the corner on the market because they had the cool body.
09:58I mean, this is basically a Volkswagen is what this is.
10:00It's an old Volkswagen pan with the engine and transmission and suspension and everything off a VW Bug.
10:06They would throw away the bodies, and they would refit them with this.
10:10You didn't even see the best part.
10:12Look at this.
10:14The key with a rabbit's foot.
10:17That's 70s.
10:18That's absolutely, man.
10:19Here in Vegas, dune buggies are huge.
10:22They were made to run in the sand, and we got plenty of that here.
10:25So I know if I can score this thing for the right price and bring it back to that proper
10:2970s vibe,
10:30I should be able to make some good money on this buggy.
10:32You've turned me down so many times.
10:34I'm gun-shy right now.
10:35Well, pop a number out.
10:37Would you take $3,000 cash?
10:40Gonna have to double it.
10:42How about meeting me halfway at 45?
10:44You know, I kind of had a funny feeling you had to come back with that number.
10:49I was thinking more like 55.
10:52You know what, man?
10:53Just because I'm scared to talk anymore about this, I will buy this right now, $5,500 cash, if you'll
10:59grab the title.
10:59You gotta do.
11:00I love it.
11:01I love it.
11:02Man, I haven't worked this hard since I don't know when.
11:05You're a tough one.
11:07Walking out of here today with a dune buggy was the last thing I expected.
11:10But I really think I scored today.
11:12I think with a little bit of TLC, this thing could easily be worth up to $15,000.
11:16And frankly, I can't wait to test it out.
11:26Rollie, give me a favor.
11:27Hop in here for a second.
11:28I'll show you something.
11:29And just sit in it normal.
11:31You see how this is in your way when you're looking down the road?
11:33That's how I live.
11:34Absolutely.
11:35With Anthony Cool's 31 Coupe, we have a little bit of a challenge.
11:38His eyes are hitting the top of the windshield when he's driving.
11:40So within his budget of $15,000, we need to figure out how to make sure he's looking through
11:45the windshield and not over it.
11:47What are you doing?
11:48Rollie, what are you doing?
11:50I imagine cool myself in this car.
11:52How would you sit?
11:54Good thing I cannot bust a window in it.
11:57Go to my office and get ready for a piss test.
12:00Rollie, you gotta settle down a little bit.
12:02But you know what's interesting about him trying to feel cool in this car?
12:05What's he doing?
12:06He's getting down in it.
12:07So if we change this seat and drop it down, that'll fix the windshield situation, the
12:12steering wheel position situation.
12:14The simple thing to do is we gotta lower the seat in this car, you guys.
12:18And plus, we got a couple little issues up front, too, you know, where the fender got
12:22hit.
12:23So we've gotta repair all that.
12:24When this car leaves, it's got our name on it, man.
12:27So it's got to be cool, man.
12:29I'm gonna let you guys wrestle this one out.
12:30Let's go.
12:31It's piss test time.
12:31All right.
12:41This is cool, man.
12:43So earlier, Danny picks up this Myers Doom Buggy.
12:45It's a pretty sweet little ride.
12:47So we decided to take it out on the road for a little test drive.
12:49Getting some dirt in the tires.
12:51I don't see us doing much off-roading.
12:53Well, there's a little we can do.
12:55We should do it, don't we?
13:22Little Doom Buggy's like this, they are a blast to drive.
13:25But it's time to get back to the shop, tear this thing down, and start making it wicked.
13:35Hey, get the hell out of here.
13:37I was wondering what you out here think this is a drive-thru.
13:40I'd jump out to say hi, but I can't get out of here.
13:43Don't get out.
13:44You're taking it back.
13:45No way, man.
13:46We got some money right here, baby.
13:47How much did you pay for this?
13:49Danny's got a beautiful wife at home.
13:51But here at the shop, he has an ugly fat wife.
13:54Her name is Scott.
13:55Why are your glasses dirty?
13:57What the hell are you two been doing?
13:59We had to test it.
14:00Hey, it's got the manta here.
14:02He did it again.
14:04You got it here.
14:05Absolutely.
14:05I love it.
14:06See, he knows about it.
14:07This Doom Buggy is way cool, and the fact that it's street legal, that just makes it twice as much
14:11fun.
14:12I'm going to put a very authentic 70s-style paint job on this car, take it back to that retro
14:17vibe it should be,
14:18and I'm going to turn this $5,500 investment into a $10,000 profit.
14:23This is a moneymaker, Scott.
14:24This is.
14:25What'd you spend?
14:25I think $2,500.
14:27You're both lying.
14:28I'm going to go look at the computer.
14:29I swear, I'm going to whoop all three of your f***.
14:32$2,750.
14:34What'd you do?
14:34I'm going to lock the f***ing door.
14:36How's the computer going, buddy?
14:37I'm going to go in the other way.
14:38I'm going to whoop your ass.
14:39Yeah, but especially you, f***ing, I'm telling you right now.
14:43I think you're going to dig it, man.
14:45Roll it.
14:46Bring this thing out.
14:47Oh, man.
14:48You've done yourself.
14:50You guys are having some fun.
14:51How'd you like it?
14:52Let's talk some numbers.
14:53Let's see how good of a test drive it really was.
14:55What do you think?
15:09Morning Mike and I came up with a great plan for the Manx dune buggy that I picked up.
15:14We've already tweaked the engine, and they're putting the finishing touches on the new paint job right now.
15:20How's it going, Ryan?
15:21I got a surprise for you.
15:22Yeah?
15:23I'm doing some lace.
15:24No.
15:25Lace.
15:26We got a big girl's stockings last night.
15:30I'm Ryan.
15:31I do a lot of custom painting around here.
15:33The other day, Danny came to me with this 70s to 60s era theme that he wanted me to go
15:37with.
15:38Had to be a lace technique.
15:40This is a dying art.
15:42You don't see this very often, man.
15:44In the 60s, if you didn't have lace, you just, you weren't anybody.
15:47Just take that home.
15:49Right.
15:49Dude, look at this.
15:50It's a great pattern, man.
15:52It's beautiful.
15:53It does look cool.
15:54It does look real cool.
15:56Tell me your stuff, Brian.
15:59I think that's good.
16:00I want to see under.
16:03Oh, yeah.
16:04Oh, yeah.
16:05See?
16:05See?
16:06You have to agree that's cool.
16:07No, you just might have got a little cooler in my book.
16:10This is slick.
16:11It's beautiful.
16:12Ryan, nice job on that, man.
16:14You rock.
16:23We've been working on this 1931 Ford hot rod for days.
16:27We've repainted the entire car, got rid of those horrible flames that were on it, fixed all the body damage,
16:33modified the seat, and it's finally finished.
16:35Now, Anthony just got here, and I cannot wait to show him what we've done.
16:40I think you're going to dig it, man.
16:41I can't wait, dude.
16:42Rollie.
16:43Bring this thing out, man.
16:45Ah.
16:46Oh, man.
16:50Look at that.
16:51Damn.
16:53You've about done yourself, man.
16:54Holy crap.
16:56All those flames are gone.
16:58Those cheesy cartoon flames are M.I.A.
17:02When it first came out and that sun hit it, the paint was just glowing off the car.
17:07It was red before, but it just didn't have that appeal before.
17:10Now, it's just sexy.
17:12Love the interior.
17:13Turn a gorgeous.
17:14Glad you dig it.
17:14You know, we added some of the stitching to match with the outside of it, but not overdone, not too
17:18much.
17:19It had that damage on the right front, all of that repaired, cleaned up.
17:24Do you remember what you wanted to your car?
17:26You want it to be nicer.
17:27Absolutely.
17:28So it is nicer, right?
17:29Oh, very much nicer.
17:31You know how you were having the issue of your line of sight?
17:34You were sitting up so high, you didn't like the windshield.
17:37Yeah.
17:37And to me, this Duval windshield, man, it's like jewelry.
17:40It's just beautiful.
17:41We polished it all up.
17:42There's no way in the world I wanted to get rid of the Duval windshield, so I want to get
17:44your butt closer to the ground.
17:46I'm getting my butt closer to the ground.
17:47Flipping there.
17:47I'm going to get my butt closer.
17:48Oh, wow.
17:50You're down in the car now.
17:51Oh, hey, windshield.
17:53See, but that is much better, man, because now when you look at the road, you're looking through the windshield.
17:57What a difference.
17:58Wow.
18:00Now, the scary thing is the budget.
18:01I said, you know, $15,000.
18:03Yep.
18:03How'd we do?
18:04We did right on the money, man.
18:05For you, we take care of business.
18:06Yes.
18:07She stayed right in budget.
18:08Beautiful.
18:09And, you know, there was some other stuff.
18:10It wasn't just cosmetic.
18:11We took care of a lot of wiring issues, the fuel injection issues, some suspension stuff.
18:16All fit in the budget.
18:17The interior.
18:17You're ready to rock, man.
18:18Absolutely.
18:19You should be able to rock and roll on this thing all the time, man.
18:21Just get in it and go.
18:22That's why I bring it to you.
18:22Thank you, bro.
18:23I appreciate that.
18:24Let's go take care of a little business with Scott.
18:26All right.
18:26Works for me.
18:26Well, when I brought the car in, it needed some TLC.
18:29We went from TLC to, you know, showroom quality.
18:31I'm going to go for a cruise down the Strip and enjoy that thing.
18:42So, you know, a couple days ago, Danny bought a Myers-Minks from Extreme Car Collector.
18:46It's a cool little thing, but I think he overspent.
18:48We're $5,500 in the purchase, $2,500 in upholstery.
18:51I really think this one's going to take a bath on once again.
18:54Hey, Danny, this is Shannon.
18:56She's coming to look at the Doom Buggy, brother.
18:57So you're in the mood for a little open-air Doom Buggy vibe.
19:00I love anything to do with off-roads, so I want to check it out.
19:02Why don't we go out front?
19:03Bring it right out.
19:06Rolling, brother.
19:07Bring that baby out here, man.
19:11Awesome.
19:13Awesome.
19:13My God.
19:15Now I know why I drive a van.
19:17Check it out.
19:18Everything we did with this was 100% authentic 70s.
19:22I just wanted to keep it true to its era.
19:24This paint is all like you've seen in the 70s, man.
19:27We even did some old lace.
19:29Beautiful.
19:29You know, paint in it.
19:30It's all old school.
19:31Totally justice.
19:32That's awesome.
19:33It's all really a unique car.
19:35That motor looks great.
19:36She runs great.
19:37She drives great.
19:38It's just simple and clean and correct.
19:41If it runs as good as it looks, man, it's going to be pretty nice.
19:44Well, let's take it for a drive.
19:45All right.
19:46Sounds good to me.
19:46Scott, we'll be back.
19:47Good luck.
19:48Be safe.
19:49When I first saw the Minx, obviously, the way it looked, the color green, and then the sparkles
19:53was just amazing.
19:54You don't see them very often, especially in that kind of condition, so it's just awesome
19:58to see it.
19:59It feels comfy in here, too, man.
20:00It feels really good.
20:01Let's go check this out.
20:02I love it.
20:08Yeah, it's just great.
20:09Pretty tight, man.
20:10Everything works really good on her.
20:13Stiff as can be, man.
20:15It's part of it.
20:15You feel everything about it, you know?
20:18So you're an off-road guy.
20:19Oh, off-road, totally.
20:20I've raced off-road for a lot of years, and my off-road car is strictly desert, so to have
20:25something that's off-road that I can drive on the street, it's going to be a lot of fun.
20:29Oh, yeah.
20:31Yeah, it's great.
20:32I'm glad you like it.
20:33Really nice.
20:33I love this little car.
20:34Yeah, it's really cool.
20:35You don't see a lot of them.
20:39How was that?
20:39It was great.
20:40It was great.
20:41Thank you, man.
20:41It's fun, isn't it?
20:42Hey, how'd you like it?
20:43I love it.
20:44Let's talk some numbers, and let's get this done.
20:46Well, before you say a number, let's see how good of a test drive it really was.
20:50What are you thinking, Shannon?
20:51I would like to stick around 18.
20:57I was soft.
20:58Let's go 20.
20:59Let's go 20.
21:00We got a clean title, the whole thing.
21:01She's ready to go.
21:02Well, 18 is one is one to spend, but as nice as it is, 20's a deal.
21:10Shannon, you rock, brother.
21:11Thank you for having me.
21:13I'm happy.
21:13I really am.
21:14We just sold the Doom Buggy and made 12 Gs.
21:17Nice profit.
21:17It really was.
21:18Let's go do some paperwork.
21:19No, it's a great day for us.
21:21I thought it was just a toy.
21:22Danny knew it was something special.
21:24Nine times out of ten, I'm 100% right.
21:26But he'll use this one to stick me every time he does something to say,
21:30look, I was right on this one.
