00:01Okay, Bill, there it is.
00:04It's a classic Chevy truck from 1955.
00:07It's 800 horsepower.
00:08It'll make you scream like a little girl.
00:11It needs a few updates.
00:13It needs about 30 years of updates.
00:17What's up?
00:181967 Lincoln Continental.
00:20I love these cars.
00:21The problem is, they ain't looking good.
00:23There's no flooring over here.
00:25Whether we did it or not, we gotta fix it.
00:28And hope he likes it enough and won't put us in jail.
00:31Check it out.
00:37I'm Bill Carlton.
00:38I built my first truck when I was 16.
00:41And ever since, me and my guys have been out here creating with our hands.
00:48Building the biggest, lowest, baddest custom trucks and cars in the game.
00:55People don't come here for what they need.
00:57They come here for what they want.
01:02This is Texas Metal.
01:12I'm on my way to see Earl.
01:14He's a great dude with an awesome collection of custom cars.
01:18Earl has an excellent eye.
01:21I've done suspension work for him before, and now he has another project for me to come
01:25take a look at.
01:26Hey man, how you doing?
01:27Thank you for having me out, man.
01:28You like my place?
01:29You got an awesome place here.
01:31This is really, really cool.
01:34Well, this is my addiction, I guess you could call it.
01:37I see that.
01:39Addiction is right.
01:40Earl only buys stuff that he can't live without.
01:42You want to go look at the project I was talking about?
01:44Yeah, let's check it out.
01:45Okay, it's right behind you.
01:48That?
01:48No, not the Corvette.
01:54Oh, come on, man.
01:55It's a 1923 Model T four-door.
01:58Yeah?
01:58What is it going to take to put that in there?
02:02What?
02:03You ever seen a 1923 Ford?
02:06I've seen a Ford, but not with a blown big block in it.
02:12Just go look at the truck, okay?
02:14Okay, thank you.
02:16You almost got me on that.
02:18Okay, Bill, there it is.
02:19The purple one, huh?
02:22Does this thing run?
02:23Yeah, it runs.
02:25Got a big old 502 big block in it with a 871 blower.
02:29Runs like a top.
02:30It's a dated truck, but it's a beautiful truck.
02:32We just need to update it, bring it back into this century, I guess you could call it.
02:36And how much horsepower is this old motor?
02:38It's 800 horsepower.
02:39That makes a fun little ride, huh?
02:41It'll make you scream like a little girl.
02:43It's a classic Chevy truck from 1955.
02:46It has the first wraparound windshield, and the bed floor was made out of wood back in the day.
02:50One of the bad deals about the truck, this thing doesn't stop.
02:54Maybe upgrade the brakes a little bit.
02:56Just a little bit.
02:57Definitely wants you to be safe.
02:59A lot of horsepower.
03:01It has a good stance, but I think wheels and tires is one of the major things we need to
03:05address.
03:08I don't know about this interior.
03:10When was this thing built?
03:11It was built in 1995.
03:13It's been a while.
03:14It's dated.
03:14Of course, the truck was built in 1955.
03:16We're talking now about when it had all its custom work done.
03:19The hardest part about working on an old custom build is not really knowing what you're getting into until you
03:24crack it open.
03:25What about the bed on the truck?
03:27We definitely need to bring some color in here.
03:29Maybe take out the aluminum.
03:30Put some wood in it.
03:32Give it a classy look.
03:33Relocate the battery.
03:34What do you think about the back end of the truck?
03:36I don't know about the bow ties there, man.
03:37What's wrong?
03:38It's a Chevy, man.
03:39It's a bow tie.
03:40No.
03:41You don't like those?
03:42That's the first thing that's going to go.
03:44You going to let me drive?
03:48You really want to drive this truck?
03:49Come on.
03:50Come on.
03:51What are we going to do if we run off the end down there and that thing doesn't stop?
03:54We'll fix it.
03:57Bill wants to test drive this truck, which is fine with me.
04:00It's his funeral.
04:03But the only thing is that he's wanting me to ride with him, and I don't know if that's too
04:07good of an idea.
04:11Whoa!
04:12Whoa!
04:14Now remember, there's no brakes on this thing.
04:22That whole thing runs pretty good.
04:23Let's go put it on your truck before we tear it up.
04:38You know, I love Houston.
04:40You got everything on wheels here.
04:42And Extensive gets to build them all.
04:51We're on the northeast side of town.
04:53Some people say it's a rough side of town.
04:57But I built my first car here, and we're not going anywhere.
05:11For me, when you first look at a custom car, the customization shouldn't stick out like a sore thumb.
05:18Earl's truck is the exact opposite, which was all the rage back in the 90s, between the dash, the seats,
05:24rear view mirror, to the scoop.
05:26I mean, we definitely have to change the scoop.
05:30You know, it's going to be a lot of fun bringing this truck up into the 21st century.
05:36What up, Timmy?
05:38You ready to get going on this thing?
05:39I don't know what the worst part is.
05:41It's outdated.
05:43Dang, who brought in the Barney Mobile?
05:45And what is all over it?
05:47Man, it's been sitting for quite a while, as you can tell.
05:49I can tell.
05:50It needs a few updates.
05:51It needs about 30 years of updates.
05:53Yes.
05:53What are we doing?
05:54The overall truck isn't bad.
05:56Earl's truck is already a hot rod, but it races a lot better than it looks.
06:01So I'm getting rid of the 90s and turning this 55 Chevy into a high-class, timeless truck.
06:06He likes the blower look coming through the hood, so what we'll do is take his hood, cut a hole
06:11in it, we'll trim it back out, and we'll get a different scoop for the blower.
06:16That thing is dated.
06:17Definitely wheels and tires.
06:1824-15 back here, 22 in the front with the low-profile tire, and definitely got to put a bigger
06:25brake kit on this thing.
06:27Check this out.
06:30Ah, Fonzie.
06:32What's up with that?
06:33I want to completely modernize and bring this interior up to the next level.
06:38Door panels, seats, headliner, even the speaker box has to be redone in this thing.
06:44The inside of this bed is just ugly.
06:48It's ugly.
06:49We got to get rid of the aluminum, man.
06:52Rip it completely out.
06:54Wood bed floor.
06:55Take this battery out.
06:57Relocate it up underneath the frame, so he's got a totally clean look.
07:00I don't know what we're going to do with the little gas filler yet.
07:03Man, we'll put a nice spinner on it.
07:06Pass that down for us.
07:09Bill has a vision for this truck, and I need to get the parts he needs to make it happen.
07:14A lot of parts.
07:15Look back here.
07:16Oh, yeah.
07:17That really dates it.
07:18That definitely screams 90s.
07:19Maybe that's why this truck didn't want to stop.
07:21They don't want anybody to see these taillights.
07:23Yes.
07:27You know, I'm putting Tim in charge of this building.
07:29I've known Tim a long time.
07:30He's my right-hand man.
07:32Take this out.
07:33This out.
07:34We don't know what's behind it yet.
07:35Could be rough.
07:36Ain't no telling.
07:37It's already purple, so that's one strike.
07:42Watch this side.
07:47And it's not as bad as we thought, but it's not as good as we thought either.
07:51To put a wood bed in this truck, we're going to redo the whole structure.
07:54It's all out of whack and unlevel.
07:56What's in here now is not going to cut it.
08:00How can you recycle that one for bite of beer, man?
08:03Hey, be real careful with these.
08:05I think we're just going to paint them and put them back in.
08:06Don't dent them or throw them around.
08:09Ah!
08:09Hey, hold up.
08:10Problem.
08:12Damn.
08:13When working on somebody else's custom work, nothing is standard,
08:17and it's usually going to take some extra time to figure it out.
08:19The steering column here comes through this panel,
08:23so you have to take it apart to make it work.
08:27Pull that wheel off and pull the other wheel off.
08:34Is there enough slack to pull it?
08:41Take them.
08:43This rod's fixed.
08:45There's only so much play.
08:47We're going to loosen the column, pull it back about a half an inch.
08:50Okay?
08:50Yeah.
08:50I'll pull it.
08:51Okay, go ahead.
08:55All right.
08:55That's good, that's good.
08:59No dents.
09:00We're good.
09:06We're going to make this thing not so ugly.
09:08I love it, man.
09:09Big purple people eater.
09:11Earl was afraid to cut the hole in the hood himself.
09:14We're going to do it for him.
09:15But before we do that, we need to add this spacer underneath the blower.
09:19Oh, yeah.
09:31We're putting this four inch spacer underneath the blower.
09:33That's going to give it the rise that we need.
09:35Then we put the cut hood on.
09:36The blower will stick higher than the hood to give you that bad ass hot rod look.
09:40Hey.
09:42Hand us that, please.
09:43Dang, I was just trying to sneak a peek on the way through.
09:48It almost made it, too.
09:51You good over there?
09:52Yeah.
09:53I'm good.
09:54Damn it.
09:57The belt's not going to fit.
09:59Oh, this sucks.
10:03We're going to have a bit of a problem with our tensioner here, so it looks like we're going
10:06to have to take the whole damn radiator out of here.
10:09Just for one bolt.
10:10Yep.
10:11One bolt.
10:13Oh, let's quit bitching about it and just do it.
10:16Oh.
10:17Hey, lift the lift up.
10:18Why?
10:18So you can get your big ass out of there?
10:20I'm on a diet.
10:27It looks pretty good, too.
10:29I like it.
10:31So much better.
10:32We're going to try and see if we can get lucky and just drop this radiator out of the
10:36way enough to get to this tensioner bolt right here.
10:38That way we don't have to take the entire radiator out just to be able to get this belt on.
10:44There we go.
10:49Watch your fingers.
10:56All right.
10:58Done?
10:59Finally.
11:00Let's go cut a hole in the hood.
11:00Let's do it.
11:01Let's go.
11:04Perfect.
11:08The center here.
11:09Okay.
11:1224.
11:15I always get kind of nervous when I have to do shit like this.
11:18That is the original hood.
11:21All right.
11:22I know no return.
11:27Hold the hood.
11:42Ryan has one shot to make this cut.
11:44If he messes it up, we're going to have to find another hood.
11:52You having fun?
11:54Tons.
12:02Hi, Mom.
12:05Let's see what fits.
12:07Come my way.
12:08Plenty of room.
12:10Now that the hood's on with the new scoop, this truck looks way better, even if it's
12:16still purple.
12:30It's Bird.
12:31I hope so.
12:32Bird's a local cop that I've known for quite some time.
12:35He's always wanted a custom car.
12:37So a few weeks back, he brought in his 1967 Lincoln Continental.
12:41What's up?
12:43Man, don't be scaring us like this, man.
12:46We've done the air suspension on Bird's convertible.
12:49Tim, show him what's up.
12:51Drop it down.
12:56Nice.
12:56I like that.
12:57I like that.
12:57It's nice.
12:58All the way to the ground.
13:00But I hate to let anything go home from the shop looking like that.
13:04Super dependable.
13:05It's going to ride good, handle good.
13:08Only problem is, you ain't looking good.
13:11It ain't looking good, huh?
13:12It looks good when it's on the ground, but it doesn't look good.
13:14So what are you actually thinking about?
13:16I ain't even got to tell you the paint needs to be done.
13:19True.
13:20What color?
13:21I love a lot of colors.
13:23I like the black.
13:24You might have to surprise me.
13:25I'm not really sure, but we have to.
13:27So we do get to surprise you.
13:28Well, as long as it's not pink.
13:31No, you ain't Elvis.
13:33The top, I don't even know what that is.
13:37It's going to be down most of the time, but even when it's up, it still should turn heads.
13:43Everybody and their mom is riding around with a Lincoln with these wheels and tires.
13:46Okay.
13:46I don't want to be like any other Lincoln around.
13:48I want to pull up to another Lincoln.
13:49I want him to be jealous of my Lincoln.
13:51It's here?
13:53Mmm.
13:54It's 50 years old.
13:56There's no reason to keep it.
13:57So redo the whole car.
13:59Well, you already got the suspension done.
14:01True.
14:02If you want to take it to the next level, I'm all for it.
14:04I plan on taking my car home today, but it looks like you have sold me to everything else, so
14:08you better do a good job.
14:09Man, we got you on this one.
14:12And I need you to get me out of some tickets.
14:14Again?
14:23You know, normally I just like to look over everything before we tear cars totally apart.
14:29But, you know, in this case, the cars pretty much already tore itself apart.
14:35There's no floor over here.
14:37The floor mat was covering a huge, huge hole.
14:41I can see the concrete.
14:45It's just typical.
14:47It's one more thing.
14:51Right now, this thing stands out for being outdated and run down.
14:56I'm going to make it stand out as a sleek, modern, one-of-a-kind 67 Lincoln.
15:01We'll finish the air suspension off with black wheels, chrome lip, and 22-inch tires.
15:07We're going to get rid of this powder blue, bring in a metallic color, make this thing way more respectable.
15:13Inside, we're going to modernize the seats, dash, and the door panels.
15:16And we'll top it all off with a brand-new black convertible top.
15:26Man, what the hell is this thing doing here?
15:28Heath and John are two of the best interior guys I know, so I asked them to tear the Lincoln
15:32down
15:33and build it back up smart and sophisticated.
15:36Does the top even work?
15:37Maybe.
15:39Woo, man.
15:40That's a lot of technology for a 67.
15:42This Lincoln is one of the last Lincolns that had the cool little transformer top thingy that went back down
15:47in the back
15:48and the suicide doors.
15:49It made it really cool, man.
15:51It's kind of sad to see they stopped making them.
15:53Now, let's figure out how to get this sucker apart.
15:58It just pulled off.
15:59It just ripped the rubber.
16:00The bracket's still stuck in.
16:02Broke the rubber.
16:03Hope it won't end up pregnant.
16:07Hope I don't look this bad at 50 years old.
16:11Top is off.
16:12We're going to be rebuilding the entire interior of this car.
16:15We're going to fix the dash.
16:16We're going to do door panels.
16:17We're going to be doing carpet.
16:19We're going to be doing fresh seats in it.
16:21Make it all custom.
16:22It's going to be pretty bad .
16:24Set it on this trash can right now.
16:27Where it belongs.
16:31Well.
16:33It's ripping.
16:34Here's the fun part.
16:36There's a lot of rust color under here, man.
16:38Still a little damp.
16:40That is nasty.
16:41Smells like wet dog ass.
16:45That wasn't good.
16:47That's going to be bad.
17:00Heath and John are finished stripping out Bird 67 Lincoln.
17:04It's time to take a look at the damage.
17:06What you guys got going?
17:08It's not looking too good.
17:10We thought you might want to see this, brother.
17:13It's like Swiss cheese down here, man.
17:14I guess it could be worse.
17:16It could be like that side.
17:18Oh.
17:21Oh, .
17:22Watch your legs.
17:23Man, I messed my socks up.
17:25All kidding aside.
17:27You know, it's a common problem with convertibles.
17:29Leaky roof, rusty floor.
17:33At least the rest of it.
17:35There's a little bit of floor left here, right?
17:37Yeah.
17:38Yeah, we're good.
17:38Either way.
17:39Little hole, big hole.
17:40We got to fix it.
17:41We got to fix it.
17:42I'll get the body guys to just make new floor pans
17:44and to save us some time waiting on parts.
17:46Get everything out, man.
17:48We'll get over to the body shop.
17:49We'll get rolling on it.
17:50Yeah.
17:59Oh, this got to come out.
18:00Damn, man.
18:04Now that Harold and Eddie have all the rust out of the way.
18:07Amazing.
18:08They'll cut a piece of sheet metal and weld it to the floor.
18:14It's not a tough job.
18:16It just takes extra time.
18:23Oh, .
18:25Man, I thought the floor boards were bad.
18:2750 years in the Houston weather has done a number on this car.
18:30Inside and out.
18:36The cheese is on the molding.
18:38It's not good.
18:39It's all rusty, man.
18:40The cheese is on the mold.
18:42Look.
18:44Come on, man.
18:45Let's get this stuff cut out, man.
18:47You can fix all that, huh?
18:48I don't do miracles.
18:50You can do miracles.
18:53You know, just like any custom job, it snowballs.
18:56You got problem after problem.
18:58We can do it.
18:58No more cheese.
18:59No more cheese.
19:00I'll do what I can, but this is on Fernando now.
19:24Tim and Ryan made the front of this 55 Chevy timeless, but the bed has got a few issues.
19:31Dude.
19:32What's up, man?
19:33It's hot.
19:33Shit.
19:34It's hot.
19:35What are we doing?
19:36The subframe somebody built in the 90s isn't going to work with the bed wood.
19:41Of course not.
19:42The plan is to put wood in the bed, but once we took the aluminum out, there's no structure there
19:47to support the wood.
19:48We'll just add some flat bar to it.
19:50As far as like the sides and the tailgate, that's a whole nother issue.
19:56So we can just like buy a new bed, be a little easier than working with all this.
20:01Come on, man.
20:03When Tim and Ryan get done with that truck bed, it's going to be a smoother, cleaner look with plenty
20:08of support for the wood.
20:10Now how am I going to say, watch your eyes?
20:12How am I going to watch my eyes?
20:17Now we'll have to measure, cut, and weld sheet metal into all four sides to make it straighter and stronger
20:24than it was before.
20:25Fits like OJ's glove.
20:29There's absolutely nothing better to do in 105 degree weather than welding.
20:34Welcome to Texas.
20:45With Tim and Ryan busy on the truck bed, I asked Heath and John to check out the interior on
20:50the 55 Chevy.
20:53It's hand tight, dude.
20:54Yeah, not in very well.
20:57That's right.
20:58Makes the job a little bit easier.
21:00The plan is to tear it all down and build something fresh and classy.
21:07Wow, look at that.
21:09That looks professional.
21:11Hide it behind the panel, they said.
21:12No one will ever see it.
21:13Now it's on national television.
21:15That's one tangled mess of wires to add to our day.
21:18Like it wasn't enough already.
21:19Exactly.
21:21That's just not acceptable.
21:22We can't turn anything out looking like this.
21:24Whether we did it or not, we got to fix it.
21:28What we're going to do today in the arts and crafts is we're going to make our door handles for
21:32our 1955 Chevy truck.
21:35Made an initial piece that we're going to use to go ahead and get it all lined up.
21:39Make sure our shape's going to be right.
21:41I've got to duplicate it and put a base on it to be able to pull the door closed and
21:46keep a cool line on this armrest slash door pull.
21:50What we're basically trying to do is just give us a shape so we can lay our fiberglass over the
21:54top.
21:57Now, all we've got to do is lay some fiberglass on and body work it out.
22:07The old interior definitely wasn't our style.
22:09The design was all over the place.
22:11It just looked kind of pieced together.
22:12It didn't look like it was a complete thought.
22:14It looked like a bunch of different thoughts.
22:16We need continuity flow in this project so we want to make sure that all of our lines flow together.
22:23We want to make a subwoofer enclosure that hits our design points everywhere we need them.
22:27Nice subwoofer in it.
22:29Great sound.
22:30Good curves.
22:31Brings the design up to our standards.
22:33The box is all fleeced up.
22:35Now all we've got left to do, add a little fiberglass to it, reinforce from the back side, and we'll
22:40be ready to move on to the next step.
22:42All right, now we start glassing this sucker up.
22:47Fiberglass is just going to give us some strength.
22:49Just tighten it up a little bit.
22:50You could use just a chipboard, but over time it'll get a little weak on you.
22:56We don't need many coats.
22:58Two layers ought to be plenty on this.
22:59It's nothing structural, it's just cosmetic.
23:05I've taken some quarter inch chop strand and mixed it up with some fiberglass resin in a can.
23:10This will give us our strength that we need for the enclosure.
23:16This is going to reinforce the box because the fleece by itself and the body work that's on it isn't
23:21strong enough to hold the pressures and the vibrations of the subwoofer.
23:24So this will give us our density and our mass that we need to hold everything together.
23:29It's a nice job.
23:31No.
23:33Take a piece of angle iron right here, aluminum angle, and we mount it to the metal surface of the
23:38door.
23:38That way, whenever we go to close the door, it will actually pull on the metal of the truck instead
23:43of the door panel.
23:44So we've got our box all fiberglassed up and ready to go.
23:47We're going to take our panel board and glue it in and get it to match the truck.
23:51That way we have nice continuity and flow all the way into the door panels.
23:57We're going to go ahead and wrap the base panel.
24:02And then we'll finish sculpting our inserts and wrap those.
24:07We've got a nice panel.
24:08It looks like it could go in like a Bentley, but it's going in a hot rod truck in Texas.
24:16Heath and I work closely together to make sure that our designs work as one.
24:22What you thinking?
24:23I'm thinking we're going to come across the top with the same pleats that you have going on in the
24:28door panel.
24:29Being in sync with each other really makes a difference when it comes to design.
24:32So it doesn't look like one person started and another person tried to finish it like that.
24:36And the same aluminum strip in the middle.
24:39That's the plan.
24:40Just make it cool, man.
24:44Man, those are some nice pressed pleats there, John.
24:47Can you make me some boots like that?
24:49I'll make you some draws.
24:55The speaker box is going to look great.
24:57It's going to give Earl plenty of leg room.
25:00And more importantly, it's going to sound better.
25:02Now all you got to do is get it done.
25:04I'm working on it, man.
25:14The interior shop is grinding to bring a touch of class to this 55 Chevy truck.
25:19Heath is hand making custom door panels.
25:21And John, he's making a new speaker box.
25:24Bottom insert.
25:27My armrest.
25:28Got our piece of aluminum.
25:31And ooh, look at that.
25:33We got a pretty panel.
25:35Not too bad.
25:36It almost looks as good as my box does.
25:38Almost, huh?
25:39Almost.
25:41You keep working at it one day.
25:42One day I'll know what the hell I'm doing.
25:44You'll get there.
25:45Heath has one more door panel to do.
25:46I don't have the heart to tell him that I'm almost done.
25:49That's what it's going to end up looking like.
25:51All we have left to do now is attach our aluminum into our insert,
25:55and then glue the insert in place, and you'll be ready to go in the truck.
26:04Tim and Ryan are bringing Earl's 55 Chevy truck back from that 90s rebuild.
26:08Do you remember your 90s?
26:11No.
26:11I was a baby in the 90s, man.
26:13With this big block in it, one of the most important things is an upgrade for the brakes.
26:20These will probably be in a vintage resale shop real soon for $25.
26:25Earl's truck has a big block V8 in it.
26:26With everything Earl's done to it, it's got over 800 horsepower.
26:32Plus, back in the 50s, these trucks were made out of real steel, which makes these things super heavy.
26:37We're going to have to make sure this truck has some real stopping power.
26:39It's a cat bed.
26:41Here.
26:43Don't drop that thing, dude.
26:46That costs more than your whole week's worth of work.
26:48We'll wear it again?
26:54I feel like I'm going to pull the whole truck off the lift.
26:56Yeah.
27:01There it is.
27:03What do you think? Looks a lot better?
27:04Look at this and that.
27:06Definitely.
27:07It's going to stop way better, too.
27:08Yeah, I'm sure it will.
27:10All right.
27:10Three more to go.
27:21San Fernando is performing miracles back there on the body of the 67 Lincoln.
27:27Next up is Prime and Paint.
27:39I asked Bird to trust me to choose a color that would really stand out, so I chose a really
27:44nice metallic gray.
27:47It's dark.
27:48It's almost black, but it'll really take this Lincoln to the next level.
28:04A few more final touches.
28:06We're ready to give Bird this bad card.
28:09I'm sure this thing is going to stand out from all the other Lincolns.
28:13Let's get these door panels put on.
28:16All right, so we've got all the doors wrapped up on Bird's 67 Lincoln.
28:20And all we've got to do is give it to him and hope that he likes it enough he won't
28:24put us in jail.
28:46We're up here at the police department today.
28:48We have an awesome surprise for Bird.
28:50I gathered everybody up, Bird's colleagues and friends.
28:53He has no idea, so it's really going to be a true surprise.
28:57He should be at work any time, right?
28:59Yeah.
29:09Ew.
29:10What's up, man?
29:10What are you doing here?
29:11He's wondering if you're going to get here.
29:12Man, what's going on?
29:13We've got a little surprise for you today.
29:14A little surprise for me today, huh?
29:15You ready?
29:16Come on.
29:17Is it here?
29:18I think it's here.
29:19Maybe.
29:20What you got?
29:21What's that?
29:21What's that?
29:22I've been waiting a while to see this thing, and I can't wait to see it.
29:24I'm very excited.
29:25You ready to check it out?
29:26Yes, sir.
29:27Yes, sir.
29:28I'm ready.
29:30Come on, Eddie.
29:31Bring it in.
29:37That's nice, man.
29:39There you go, Eddie.
29:40Drop it down.
29:44Nice.
29:45Really nice.
29:46Oh, I love it.
29:47Love it.
29:47Love it.
29:48Love it.
29:48Man, this is nice.
29:50Woo!
29:51Y'all done yourself, man.
29:52Y'all done yourself.
29:54From the color to the wheels, he's just looking mackling.
29:58I'm shocked and surprised that said in my car that he's driving up.
30:01It's mine, huh?
30:02Same one.
30:03Same one.
30:03All right.
30:10Come on, I want you to meet the guy.
30:13Eddie.
30:14Eddie.
30:14What's up, man?
30:15Appreciate it, man.
30:16Fernando.
30:17San Fernando.
30:18San Fernando?
30:19One of the miracles on this body on this car right here.
30:21He went in hand-shaped new metal, welded it in.
30:25Front to back.
30:26I mean, every bit of the chrome has been redone.
30:29All the stainless has been polished.
30:31No more rust.
30:32I think about this much.
30:34Not a cheese.
30:35We didn't have to cut out.
30:36Everywhere, it was cheese.
30:38Cheese.
30:38We call it cheese.
30:39Appreciate it, man.
30:40I thank you a lot.
30:41Love it, huh?
30:41I love it.
30:42You did a great job.
30:43When I first gave the car to Bill, I trust him anyway.
30:45I loved every car Bill actually done in the shop.
30:48So, I mean, he really outdone himself.
30:49It's a beautiful car.
30:50Man, check out the inside of this thing.
30:52You can leave the top down now and not be embarrassed about it.
30:55It's nice, man.
30:56It is nice.
30:57John and Heath really showed their skills.
31:00I mean, look, the door panels light up around the bottom.
31:03All four doors are like that.
31:05The interior is immaculate also.
31:07I love how the suede and a little leather in there,
31:09how they did a clean job all the way around.
31:11With the little Lincoln extensions in the doors.
31:14I love it.
31:15It's beautiful.
31:16What's up with these wheels, man?
31:18Man, 22-inch Forgiados.
31:20And they just set this thing totally apart from every other Lincoln.
31:23It does.
31:23It does.
31:24It does.
31:25Love the color.
31:25I hope it's a good surprise for you.
31:27It is.
31:27It was a great surprise.
31:28Bill really knows what he's doing.
31:29He did the color of the car.
31:30I trust him a lot to pick out the color.
31:32And I'm really excited and happy.
31:34And y'all done yourself, man.
31:36Man, I didn't think you were going to be speechless.
31:38I'm damn near speechless.
31:39I'm shocked.
31:39I'm damn near speechless.
31:40I am.
31:41I'm impressed.
31:42I really am.
31:43I'm still shocked that it's my car.
31:45I get to drive it on a daily basis if I really want to.
31:58Killer job.
31:59Killer is nice.
32:00Dry is nice.
32:01Dry is good.
32:02Eye catcher.
32:03I know you wanted to stand out, Bird.
32:06Yeah, sir.
32:06Needed to stand out.
32:07Make it look good, man.
32:08Make it look good.
32:09Everybody is looking at this thing.
32:11Yes, sir.
32:12Like on top of the world.
32:13Yeah.
32:15The car drives great.
32:17Feels good.
32:18It's everything I wanted in this car.
32:19I just love driving it.
32:31The hood, the scoop, the bed are done on the 55 Chevy.
32:35Now Tim and Ryan can get rid of their worst feature on the truck.
32:39Say bye-bye bow ties.
32:43Done yet?
32:44Almost.
32:45That's fancy.
32:46It is pretty fancy, huh?
32:49Man, this thing is taking a lot longer than it should have.
32:52Yep.
32:53Now we can move forward to the toelights.
32:55Finally, right?
32:56Right.
32:58Oh.
32:59Oh, got a problem.
33:02Dude, that is a lot of Bondo.
33:03Holy crap.
33:04There's going to be a huge dent in this corner.
33:07I already know it.
33:07Once again, working on somebody else's custom install brings up another surprise.
33:15Probably why this bed is so damn heavy.
33:17Mm-hmm.
33:18I should have just went with my idea.
33:19Bought a bed and started from scratch.
33:30About a half-inch of Bondo here.
33:33Either this roll pan was just really crap from the start,
33:38or that somebody just was trying to hide a whole bunch of imperfections.
33:43I mean, they did a good job.
33:44It fooled me.
33:44But that's not the right way of doing stuff.
33:46Nothing leaves this shop looking like this.
33:49God!
33:49Ow!
33:52I think we've got a solution, though.
33:54Kind of made a template.
33:56We'll cut the metal to this where the light will stick through, be flush.
34:00Mm-hmm.
34:01We'll center here to here.
34:03Let you judge kind of how high you think it ought to be
34:06and lay it out like you normally do.
34:08I'm gonna attempt to fix that big ol' dent that they got right there.
34:12I think once you put some heat on it, it'll pull it out, too.
34:14I hope.
34:15Yeah.
34:16We'll see.
34:23Now that I got these cut out, this is one addition real bad on the bottom,
34:27and it's staying kind of straight, kind of flat on the top.
34:30What I'm gonna do now is rip this out on the corner
34:32and see if I can get this bow out of here.
34:34And that's pretty good.
34:41Let's fit this bad boy in here and see if it works.
34:47I got these fit in here.
34:48Everything looks real nice.
34:49A lot better than them in bow ties.
34:51Now it's off the body.
35:00Cool.
35:00Now all the metal work's done on the bed, it's off to the body shop to get all smoothed out.
35:04We're not gonna do stuff halfway around here.
35:07Obviously, the bed needs paint.
35:08I called Earl, told him he needed to change the color of this truck.
35:12He said, cool.
35:13I guess he trusts me.
35:23You should put look on the purple truck.
35:25I thought it should.
35:26You should tell America.
35:27Uh-oh.
35:29I was about to start hoping, I promise.
35:33What's up?
35:33so you think you're done huh this is never a good look never and I've been
35:39thinking and thinking and thinking and thinking we got to change the color we
35:43have to I can't be having no Barney truck I know he wants it back at all but
35:51it's purple
35:56I think the curves the stance the whole look at this truck it needs a classy
36:01color we'll call it cafe con leche
36:14paints dry a million times better after weeks of work it's finally time to wrap
36:21this thing up now we can put the wheels and tires on and get that wood in the
36:30bed this perfect example of custom trucks the custom world all the sub racing of
36:34the floor goes up down up down way to make it all smooth the bed will fit now two
36:39and a half weeks later I'm getting to do something that should have taken me maybe
36:42two hours now we're ready to install this custom interior and this trucks ready to
36:52go back to girl taco time taco time flavor we got I don't know taco flavor tacos I've never
36:59found a bad taco stand around here mmm that's I keep my girlish figure I got into
37:05interior design with cars when I first started out as a car audio guy and you
37:09see a lot of big big systems and stuff that started dying out in the late 90s not as
37:14many people wanted big stereos so it just kind of naturally progressed into me
37:17doing interiors and bringing that some of that design concept into the interiors
37:23you're dropping stuff mm-hmm messy tacos are good tacos if it's not in your lap
37:27being a good taco mm-hmm it all started for me wanting something that I couldn't
37:32afford someone else to build for me so you got to make it myself so that's the
37:36best way to learn hands-on screw some things up break some stuff put it back
37:40together still do a lot of that I don't want to be a doctor I don't want to be
37:45a lawyer I want to play with cars I like getting up in the morning and playing
37:48with hot rods all day long it's like Tonka toys exactly my family for the
37:53longest time thought I was crazy it's not gonna go anywhere you know they're like
37:57it's a useless job nobody's gonna pay any money for that stuff look at me now
38:01we're on TV hi mom now the 55 Chevy is back from paint Earl's truck is looking
38:20good and timeless Heath and John are installing their handmade headliner door
38:26panels console and sub box starting to look like a custom truck man one of the
38:33last things we had to do is get rid of the old steering wheel and put something
38:37classy in its place the last time anyone ran flames on anything was back in the 90s
38:42so I got a little fire extinguisher here
39:05finally today's the big day Bill's gonna bring me the truck that he hadn't let me see for two months
39:12he's banned me from his shop this is a big day for me
39:21occasionally we've been known for going over the top so today we got a special
39:26surprise for Earl Earl owns one of the biggest tugboat operations in the city I
39:30asked his wife Cheryl if we could use one of his tugs to add to the surprise he's
39:36been looking forward to this so much he's just driving me crazy thank you
39:42for coming out to be with Earl today you know he's a huge car enthusiast man I
39:47can't wait for you to check this out the thing is now if I don't like the truck you and

40:26what do you think that is awesome that really is awesome Bill wow oh my goodness look at those
40:33wheels look at that paint job it's a beautiful color Bill nailed it well tell me about what you
40:42did first we had to raise the blower up for you I know you wanted the scoop going all the
40:47way through
40:47the hood it was a solid hood remember we cut it put the hole in it did the blower I
40:52like the hood the
40:53hood on the truck finishes the truck out the truck went so long without the hood because the blower and
40:58the hood wouldn't work together and Bill made that work lowered it a little bit of course the
41:03new wheels tires big brakes to stop this big old thing four of them tires are killer I'm almost
41:10speechless really this is pretty awesome what's it look like on the inside check it out whoa look at
41:17those door panels are really like those armrests y'all did in there man every bit of that's all
41:21handmade that interior is just beautiful and it really goes with the truck took out the old
41:27lazy boy seats you know made it classy I think the this truck is classy now it goes fast it's
41:33a race
41:34truck but it still has class to it no one's gonna be complaining about this truck in 10 years I
41:40mean
41:40this thing is cool and timeless when you open the hood up all that dull aluminum is gone and it
41:55shows
41:55that jewel of that big 502 big block Chevy motor in there with that 871 blower hey Bill where are
42:02the taillights is that them right there yeah cool yeah no more bow ties no more bow ties I think
42:10you
42:10might wear that at Halloween this year bow tie bow tie yeah it's got a real thin coat of color
42:17over
42:17it but they do shine through the paint so I'm not gonna have the popo stop on me am I
42:22maybe for
42:22speeding maybe for speeding wow that blonde wood is killer in there we pulled up the old diamond plate
42:30bed floor right and the soap frame of it was kind of so we couldn't label it on top of
42:35it we had to
42:35reinforce all that and make it all straight we were gonna try to use the old panels and Bill wasn't
42:40gonna
42:40let us do that there wasn't nothing done halfway no every car every project that goes out of the
42:45shop I mean that reflects me you and every guy working on it so it has to be right I
42:52mean this
42:52is over the top Bill y'all really like y'all really did a good job man there's only one
42:57issue I've got
42:58on this bill when you took me for a ride in the purple truck you scared the crapola out of
