01:22You know, it's weird to think back that the house that I grew up in was right here.
01:27There was a little 30 by 40 shop in the back.

02:06He drove all the way down here from his home in Arkansas with a project he said is perfect for

03:41Lowering this dually with giant wheels and tires and still maintaining the towing capacity
03:45is what sets us apart from any other shop around.

04:47You know, I'm a third generation welder.
04:50My grandpa was a welder.
04:51And my dad taught me how to weld right here on this property.
04:56You know, my dad taught me how to get a feel for the way something should look.
05:01You know, I don't use computers.
05:04Instead, I just kind of step back, look at the vehicle and just kind of get a feel for the
05:09way the finished product should look.

05:18This is a guy from Arkansas, and this is his dream to have a truck built by us.
05:25Man, that's really cool.
05:27So what's the plan?
05:28So here's what I'm thinking.
05:30This truck will be the ultimate show and tow to win awards and to get down and do the dirty
05:36work.
05:36Of course I want to drop it to the floor with an extensive made air suspension, 26-inch wheels and
05:42tires, with a custom hitch to pull whatever, whenever.
05:45So he has other show cars that he's going to tow east coast to west coast.
05:50That's extensive style, not losing towing capacity.
05:53We'll get him hooked up.
05:54We're going to throw out the brand new interior and go full custom.
05:58On the outside, we're going to paint copper accents even inside the headlights.
06:03It's going to look awesome.
06:06So can I have those seat covers to put in my Dodge?

06:58You know, we've customized our share of four dualies before, but this Platinum is so new to the market.

07:43The newer trucks, the manufacturers just keep cramming and cramming and cramming all sorts
07:48of new technology in them.
07:49Which makes our job hard because we need extra room for the air suspension and extra large
07:53wheels.
08:01Right now, just trying to make a bunch of clearance.
08:04So when we get in here and get the cutting and welding, take this off.
08:10Worst part about new trucks is all the wiring.
08:14We gotta reroute to do everything.

08:20All this has to be mounted in here, relocated, lengthened, moved to make room for the big

08:35And just when you think you're making some room here, it's the same rat's nest over here

08:41So all this has to be relocated too.

09:11This whole frame configuration now is definitely gonna throw a whole wrench in our program.
09:17The setup we used to use ain't gonna work on this no more.

09:21Because the frame bends in, we need to design a one of a kind four link on the inside of

09:27Man, we're gonna have to come up with every part and piece individual for this truck.
09:44In order for Justin's dually to set low to the ground, we need to make a lot of room for
09:48these huge wheels to go up inside the fender well.
09:51I mean, what we gotta do first, let's go ahead and get the rear end out.

10:05That means a lot of frame modifications and narrowing the axle.

10:14If we didn't make these modifications, this truck would go down, set on the tire, and ruin the fender well.

10:29Let's take some measurements on this thing real quick.
10:31See how much we gotta cut off of it.
10:39Well, we got 101, so we'll take seven inches off of each side.
10:43We're gonna shorten this axle 14 inches total, and even that is gonna leave us very little room for suspension.

11:31First thing I started here was mowing the lawn.
11:34Now I'm taking the bark.
11:36It's differential of a super duty, so it's kind of awesome.

12:34This is a fun little sports car with a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine with 350 horsepower.
12:40So what made you pick a Porsche?
12:42I like them.
12:43They look like little race cars.
12:44Bet you got a couple speeding tickets in this thing.
12:46Yes, I do.
12:47I had my Porsche for about two years now, and rather than go get a whole nother one,
12:52I just thought I would make mine more customized for me.
12:54You know, what about maybe exhaust, something like that?
12:57We could build something in-house that really makes it custom.
13:01But that would be good.
13:02I always thought it was like a little, you know, a little wimpy sounding.
13:06We can fix that.
13:07It seems like Kim has always driven performance cars, but she wishes this one sounded more like they used to.
13:13A hand-built exhaust is gonna look good, sound good, might even add a little horsepower.

14:22This is an expensive car, so it needs to have a sexy, clean, expensive look.
14:28When you're customizing a car like this, you could go too far.
14:31You could put the wrong wheels, wrong tires, the wrong wing.
14:34It's the same as color matching with the wrong color.
14:36Just those little subtleties make a huge, huge improvement or a huge, huge disaster.
14:43That's the fine balancing line right there.

15:58Justin's my go-to performance guy.
16:02He's going to pull the old exhaust out and make something special.
16:07These things sound pretty weak from the factory, so we're going to go ahead and liven it up a little
16:11bit.
16:13So these things right here, they actually have three mufflers.
16:16They have this primary and then from here it comes around to our secondary and off the bottom and noise
16:22comes out the back.
16:23So what we're going to do is we're going to go ahead and remove this and make it sound like
16:28a real car.
16:32Once we get the tips removed, we're going to go ahead and pull the rear bumper so we can get
16:35a little more clearance around the factory system.
16:37Kind of see what kind of room we have to work with and come up with something crazy.
16:42So the factory muffler, the way they're designed, they have a packing on the inside.
16:46That packing absorbs a lot of the sound.
16:49You can see right here in the center the discoloration.
16:52That's from restriction and flow.
16:54So what we're going to do is we're going to take these two pieces of tubing and we're going to
16:58cut the centers out.
17:00And we're going to create our own X-pipe for this exhaust system and we'll have a nice clean path
17:05for the exhaust gases to flow.
17:09I know this is going to give a better sound.
17:24Justin's making a custom exhaust for Kim's 2014 Porsche 911.
17:28It's starting to take shape. I can't wait to hear it.
17:33We're blocking off all the ends and we're going to run argon gas through the inside of the tubing as
17:37a back purge to keep it from sugaring up so that we get a better quality weld.
17:44One of the reasons we chose this design right here with the X-pipe is because the factory bumper is
17:48going to stop right here.
17:49So from the rear of the car, you should be able to get a nice view of the custom exhaust
17:53system.
17:55So when it's going down the road and it sounded so good, you'll be able to see why.

20:09So all this has to get completely cut.
20:13Even the firewall, the wiring harness, all the hoses, everything is in the way.

20:21It's not every day you get to cut into the fender structure of a brand new truck.
20:25But you know, it's one of the things I love about this job.
20:28Get that all chopped out, just bottom it out and make sure it's the right height.

20:35I know this looks crazy, taking this brand new truck and cutting out all the inner fender structure.

20:45It's all good because John's going to weld a new inner fender well, which will make it just as strong
20:51as it was before.

21:06We'll make the cut on the other side and then we'll build out the air suspension.

21:12Man, people are going to freak out once they see this big old wheel tucking under this $80,000 truck,

21:34In air suspension, the back has to go just as low as the front.
21:38So Ryan's creating a step notch so the axle can go all the way up into it and the truck
21:43is set flat on the ground.
21:46Now that I got my notch plates up here, I'm going to go ahead and get the filler plates in
21:49there.
21:51That way we can knock out the center section.
21:58You know, a lot of people just cut a notch in the frame, call it good.
22:01Super unsafe.
22:03We're going to build a step notch from scratch, make this frame stronger than it ever was from the factory.
22:09Now all that's welded.
22:11About to void all warranties.

22:35Now comes the fun part, get to reinvent the wheel.
22:38Got to make four links, probably some cross members, get the rear end in here, see what we're working with.
22:44With the notch plates welded, the guys are going to start making the custom air suspension.
22:47Watch your eyes.
22:58At this point, the air is deflated out of the bag, which will have the truck laid out on the
23:02frame at its lowest point.
23:06Whenever we inflate the bag with air, the suspension is going to drop, which will raise the truck off the
23:11ground to its right height where you have a comfortable riding position.

23:27Wouldn't you know, just when we're getting a little momentum on the dually, the client Justin calls, switches things up
23:33on us.
23:34Man, I've been buying a little extra few projects, and I've got three cars to haul now, and I was
23:40wondering what y'all's suggestions would be to haul behind that F-350.
23:44So let me get this right. So you want to step it up a little bit and haul three to
23:47the shows.

23:49He's got the automotive addiction.

23:51We can build you a gooseneck hitch into the framework.
23:54You know, roll the tubing and everything.

23:56Man, make you really some, like a piece of art in the back of the truck.

24:12You know, it's a bigger job, more work, way more time, but it's definitely going to take this truck to
24:17the next level and set it totally apart.

24:40The two work we're already put in, we got to cut that off.
24:43On a huge job like this 2017 platinum truck, it's never easy to get a last minute change up from
24:49the client unless it makes the build even better.
24:52So he's going to get a three car hauler and haul three custom cars now.
24:57So we're going to have to build a gooseneck hitch in the back.
24:59A gooseneck hitch is welded inside the bed directly to the frame.
25:03It makes it so you can hook up a gooseneck trailer to haul some really large loads.
25:07You know, let's start out with the bag mounts, get the bag mounts in, then we'll come up with some
25:10crazy tube work.
25:11So people just see the truck and just go, wow, man, I can't believe you still pull a trainer with
25:17this low truck.
25:19You're damn right. Yeah.
25:21It's going to be a work truck just as much as it is a show truck.
25:24Let's do it, man. Holler if y'all need something.

25:37That way we could work around where this gooseneck ball needs to go.

36:12After removing the chrome pieces from the lights, they de-chromed them with a special

36:27They color matched some of the pieces to match the white on the truck.

41:41A lot of engineering went into that to get that big.
